unfortunately, 95+% of my driving is not highway cruising!
Maybe this used to be a bigger deal, but now, almost every car is a great highway cruiser. My Maverick will happily cruise along creeping up over 80, with next to no wind , road or engine noise. Comfy seats, cushy ride. And that is a "baby" truck. I assume a big mastodon like TJC's Ram is even more of a limo than the Lincoln!
can't wait for the middle of the week. current forecast of lows of -2 all the way up to one degree, and highs lucky to crack double digits. At least should only be late Monday through early Thursday!

Finally switched out the cars (to the Ariya) and ran some errands this morning. The Ariya showed an outside temp of 8 degrees, 80% charge, and 95 miles of range vs. an official EPA range of 205 miles in more ideal conditions. I finished the day around 60% and put it on the charger for the night.

It was 0º when I took the pup out to do his business this a.m. (6:45-ish). It's 9º now.
Had 77% charge on the EV6, which translates to about 230 miles of range. But, in this weather, the KIA app allows me to have the heater, seat warmer, steering wheel warmer start with the app on my phone. So, I'm burning 4-5 minutes of juice whenever I need to drive somewhere. Like MPG on an ICE vehicle, warming up the car affects range on an EV.
I’m actually on the plane on my way to Seattle this morning. Have a quick meeting there and then actually flying back this afternoon or evening (depending on when the meetings end).
Perhaps I should have come out a day earlier to attend the cars and coffee! Maybe next time.
I took my son to a Caffeine & Octane car show a couple of weeks ago. It was 40 degrees but it was packed like Disney. It seems most of the cars now are just spectators who pay the up charge to be able to park in the show lot at the mall. Saw a couple of nice cars, but it’s getting watered down.

This past Summer, range was about 8% higher.
———————————————— Just curious but when an ICE car consumes a lot of gas it’s called a gas hog. Has a term been created yet for EV’s that consume a goodly amount of electricity for whatever reason. If not, allow me to offer up…”Battery Killer” or “Battery Sucker”.

Not for sure, but there was a LOT of pre-heating the cabin. Also, I'm pretty sure the preheat bypasses the heat pump and uses resistance heating, because it only needs to run for a minute or two before it's warm. My trip back home from my local pub this evening was something like 1.4 miles per kWh.
This morning (about 10 degrees Fahrenheit), the app kept telling me it was unable to start the preheater. Hard pass. I stayed in my kitchen and restarted the app until it finally worked. The battery was at 94% this morning and is now at 79%, after maybe ten miles of driving, but again, a lot of preheating.

It's difficult to draw a line in the sand. I'd say the larger EV vehicles, which won't fully charge overnight on a standard Level 2 charger, such as the Silverado, Lightning, CyberTruck, etc., would qualify.

———————————————— I’m surprised a Level 2 charger can’t recharge a Silverado etc. over night. How many Level 2 charging hours does it take to get it to 100%? Or should I say 80%.
Regardless of how cold it’s ever been, I could fill my gas tank from near empty to full in less than 4 minutes. That sounds like one more nail in the coffin against EV’s as far as @driver100 is concerned.

Actually the comparison on time to refill the tank would be from 10% to 80% full. I'd guess that at about 2 minutes for either of my economical, efficient, low polluting, low demand on earth's natural resources Chevies. As i understand, the EV's shouldn't be run lower than a marginal value, is it 20% or 10% left and should not be recharged above 80% for optimum cell life.
That’s on a Level 2 charger. DC Fast chargers are a whole ‘nother thing. And even on the Level 2, you charge overnight while sleeping. No work involved! Charging and charge times are just not a reason not to own or lease EVs. Charging infrastructure still is, BUT improving every year. That’s why we have one EV and one PHEV.

————————————————- I will disagree with you on this 100%. Charging, charge times and let me add one more, availability of chargers that would take me even 1 mile out of my intended route, are the No.1 reasons why I don’t want any part of any EV vehicles.

@suydam - most EVs fully charge overnight on Level 2. The ones with 200 kWh battery packs do not, if you're starting from (roughly) a half charge or below.

Yeah....but I don't have to drive to a gas station, stand at a gas pump in -2º temps with my Ice cold hand gripping a metal frozen nozzle to fill up. I pull into my garage, plug in, and it gets a "fill up" while I'm in my warm house having hot cocoa in front of my fireplace, or taking a nap.
People ask me how long it takes me to charge my EV6 at home. I really don't know. It charges when I'm asleep. Only used a fast charger 2X, for no other reason than I wanted to see how long it took. Supposed to take 18 minutes from 20%-80%. But, I had a little more change than 20% and it only took 15 minutes.
As quick as an ICE vehicle fillup? No. But, 15 minutes charge won't bother me on a road trip. I can plug in, get a coffee, use the facilities and be ready to rock pretty quickly.

I’m not the biggest EV advocate but at least the EV owner can fill his “tank” while sipping coffee in his warm living room while we dino fillers have to freeze our butts off.😂
