It's difficult to draw a line in the sand. I'd say the larger EV vehicles, which won't fully charge overnight on a standard Level 2 charger, such as the Silverado, Lightning, CyberTruck, etc., would qualify.
    ————————————————
I’m surprised a Level 2 charger can’t recharge a Silverado etc. over night. How many Level 2 charging hours does it take to get it to 100%? Or should I say 80%.

Regardless of how cold it’s ever been, I could fill my gas tank from near empty to full in less than 4 minutes. That sounds like one more nail in the coffin against EV’s as far as @driver100 is concerned.

    jmonroe
Yeah....but I don't have to drive to a gas station, stand at a gas pump in -2º temps with my Ice cold hand gripping a metal frozen nozzle to fill up. I pull into my garage, plug in, and it gets a "fill up" while I'm in my warm house having hot cocoa in front of my fireplace, or taking a nap.

People ask me how long it takes me to charge my EV6 at home. I really don't know. It charges when I'm asleep. Only used a fast charger 2X, for no other reason than I wanted to see how long it took. Supposed to take 18 minutes from 20%-80%. But, I had a little more change than 20% and it only took 15 minutes.

As quick as an ICE vehicle fillup? No. But, 15 minutes charge won't bother me on a road trip. I can plug in, get a coffee, use the facilities and be ready to rock pretty quickly.
There was a time when the 4.5 hour drive to Cincinnati took closer to 6 hours because we had to stop to feed one of the boys, change diapers, etc. Those days are long gone and we can now go door-to-door if we wanted but we still usually stop somewhere on the west side of Columbus to grab something to drink or stretch out and we're there a minimum of 20 minutes usually. It's certainly not as intrusive or inconvenient as some folks make it out to be IMO.

FWIW, I wasn’t questioning the convenience of having a home charger. If I had an EV there is no way I wouldn’t have one, and it would be the most powerful one out there. I was merely surprised that a Level 2 charger couldn’t fully change a Silverado over night.

My longest was 20 hrs to Orlando, stopping only for gas. But my toughest was Spain. I can’t sleep on a plane, so up all day, driving an hour to the airport, 2 hrs in the airport, 8 hr overnight flight, 1 hr to rental car, then driving 5 hrs to our destination was brutal. IIRC, I was up for about 30 hrs before arriving at the villa.

I am that way some times when I fly out to drive a car home. I remember the trip to get the Passat was like that: Normal work day on Friday, so up at 0630, work until 1800, my wife dropped me at the airport at about 2300 hours, then I flew through the night to Chicago followed by a second flight right away (thankfully) to Fort Wayne. A representative from the dealer picked me up at the airport (about 1000 hours on Saturday morning), drove me an hour(ish) to Fort Loramie (OH), and then I spent close to an hour at the dealer getting the car squared away and chatting/doing the celebrity thing with the dealer owners and staff.

Finally getting under way, I drove down the road another hour (ish) to meet up with @kyfdx for lunch and to check out his TDI Audi, then on the road again. I drove a couple more hours to Indianapolis, stopped at Costco there to grab my drinks, bread, and P/J for the trip home, then made it about another thirty minutes down the road before it was flat time for a nap! I don't recall just what time that was now, but thirty hours awake sounds about right! I ended up napping for nearly two hours before continuing on my way. I think I stopped for the night somewhere in central Illinois, at a highway rest area, at about 2330 hours that Saturday.

    Agreed. Brutal!

Been a while (when my daughter was looking at, then attending college) since I did more than about 5 hours at one time (with a quick stop for gas food or bathroom only). Don't really have much desire to now. Not as easy as it used to be! Runs to NC from philly we’re about 7:30 hauling straight through with one out stop only. Hopefully, sometimes a 2nd quick bio only at a rest area!

Not long before moving to CA, I helped my cousin acquire some furniture from his wife's grandmothers house in Sun City, AZ.

    80's Chevy 1500 pulling a 15' flat bed trailer.

Left my hometown (northwest of LA) around dinner time on Friday night - roughly 8 hours to Phoenix, slept for a couple of hours, woke up and played 18 holes of golf, spent the rest of the day loading furniture onto the truck and trailer, then back on the road to CA around midnight-ish Saturday night. Drove all night and arrived home mid-morning on Sunday.

My cousin did most of the driving, as he had experience pulling a trailer. I did a few short stints to allow him time to rest, both there and back.

We were both beat at the end of that trip.

Longest road trip day was in 1985 - a buddy of mine and I had driven from CA to MI. On the way back, we did one stint from Childress, TX (SE of Amarillo) to Phoenix. Almost 900 miles, with the dreadful 55 MPH speed limit in effect. I think it took us 15 hours to complete the trip.

Wow. That was a serious weekend! Ah, to be young again. :D

12-15 hours is about all I want to push in a day. I've done a couple 20-hour runs, and it just isn't a safe option. It's next to impossible to remain truly alert after that many hours behind the wheel.

I think my longest single drive day was a little east of Oglala, NE, to Pendleton, OR. Twenty hours and nearly 1,200 miles. We've had a lot longer runs switching drivers (such as our last 36 hours essentially non-stop to get home just this past October), but it's a whole different game being the only driver for a long run like that.

I think the longest I’ve done in one day is South Jersey to Savannah GA. I felt like I could have gone another 2 hours easily but the family was done.

The worst was South Jersey to Boston and back in a box truck governed at 65 with a broken hand.

The farthest I ever did in one shot was from Saskatoon to North Vancouver, just a hair under 1000 miles, in about 15 hours, through the Canadian Rockies in the middle of the night -- two gas stops. I used to run Edmonton/Phoenix fairly regularly, as well as Vancouver/Phoenix in around 30 hours, but there was usually a nap (hour or so) stop along the way. I usually timed the trips to do as much driving overnight as possible, to limit the traffic.

For those who don't know, the time you're most likely to go to sleep at the wheel is just after sunrise, if you've been driving all night.

Agree. I think the Ultimate architecture (what GM and Honda use) doesn't charge as quickly as the Tesla, Kia, Hyundai counterparts do.

That said, I too, am kind of surprised the Silverado EV doesn't charge fully over night.

I got an unexpected laugh watching one of the Palisades fire aftermath videos yesterday. There aren't many light moments in those.

Authorities decided to let residents of some of the areas where the devastation was not total go back to see how their homes had survived. The video showed the process of residents queuing up at a Malibu beach parking area along the PCH and being met by an army of police officers and other staffers who verified their identity and addresses. It was a long line of Lexuses, Teslas, and various other not-cheap cars. Once they were verified as being legit and entitled to visit, the staff had bundles of yellow plastic caution tape in their hands cut to about 18" lengths, which they would tie around outside mirror posts or wiper arms to let those doing traffic control up in the areas know they could enter.

One fellow in a newish-looking white Range Rover was in line and went through the ID process successfully. The officer went to tie the yellow flag around the drivers side wiper arm and it came loose. The driver wasn't sure what was going on so he turned on the wipers. The passenger side one went back and forth normally while the drivers side just sat still halfway up the windshield. RR reliability! :)

I had searched on reliability before posting it. Not much out there on first glance that I found imposing. I mean you EXPECT suspension and electrical issues on those, so I was more interested in major issues or engine-out kind of faults. Why do I like the vehicles that are headaches for most? I’m like a woman who likes bad boys. “I can change it! You’ll see!”

I usually skip right over the AI summary. I’ve had enough experience with AI at this point (for work) to simply not trust it.

Want to hear something interesting? Both KBB and Cars, com show 4.5 out of 5 stars with nearly 90% of owners recommending the vehicle. I would never have expected that.

    @qbrozen,
With that fleet, I assume you have a fleet policy, how much is the insurance on all those vehicles?

    I got what now? Lol.

    Uhhh… haven’t done the math in a while. Let’s see…

The Volvo and Sprinter are the priciest by far at $1600 and $1450, respectively. And the Fiat is about $725. I keep comp/collision on those 3 because … wife.

    Those without comp/collision:
    Son’s Opel: $400, Suzuki: $365, Truck: $610, QP: $445.

Alfa and Coronet are on collectors insurance and are about $550 for the pair.

I have said I’ll never own another luxury German car, though. They always seem to screw me.

I'm to the point where I don't want to drive/own any SUVs except the Wrangler (although the 2018 X5M press loaner was a good bit of fun). Looking forward I still keep thinking about an E12 M535i. As far as newer cars go there are no BMWs I like save the M2 CS. I'd also take an I6 AMG. That's about it.

Wheels look small for something with the upgraded engine, even for 2013... Salvage due to theft might be okay, but it would be nice to know more about what needed to be repaired. The fact that it's at a BHPH dealer is sus.

Salvage? You mean the theft? Welll… yeah. Not like it was wrecked and rebuilt. It is branded, though.
