Of course, the most-used shade of orange was found on utility trucks, known in the biz as Omaha Orange, since that is where it originated. Of course, I think a lot of them now are just painted white as specific colors seem to have fallen out of favor. Though our water utility still has a fleet of blue trucks, and our garbage trucks are mostly dark green.
If you have an orange vehicle, does it need an appropriate amount of orange peel in the application?

I’m returning home from Atlanta today and had decided to rent a vehicle for getting around this time (we often end up using Uber). Hertz had a pretty cheap rental for “Manager’s EV Special.” I figured, “what could be the worst EV available as a rental?”
I forgot about the Kia Niro EV.
Now, to be fair, it was actually a very pleasant car to drive and had the typical nice suite of safety features from Hyundai/Kia.
Offered about 210 miles of range, which was more than enough to get me around for my time in Atlanta. I asked at what level it had to be returned at, and I was surprised at the answer…95%.
I mean, how do you reasonably get it charged to that level and return it to the airport?
Easy answer was to pre-pay the full charge at $26.

Careful, if you rent an EV from Hertz you might get charged extra for not filling it up with gasoline.😂
My beloved '73 240-Z (wish it was a '72, with real carburetors) was orange when I backed it out of the Edmonton dealer's showroom in the spring of '73. I burned through the warranty by July (12 months/12K miles), since I needed to drive back and forth from Edmonton to Vancouver, Calgary and Saskatoon on a regular basis. The colo(u)r was great, and I learned to appreciate the shape of it the first time I was in Vancouver on the second floor of a place I was visiting and could see down into the parking lot. I had no idea how pretty it was from above.
Either way, I needed to have it cleaned up in '81 or so and had it repainted. Orange again, but this time I was able to choose the shade, and it was a VW orange which was much more nearly red. Just excellent, besides which it was Ditzler enamel.
Those were the days, as in "die boomer" that I recall with pleasure.

A good friend of mine has a Niro. I’m surprised it’s comfortable for him because he is over 6 ft tall. He drives it all over the state and is very happy with it. He doesn’t ask much of cars though, mainly reliable transportation.
@nyccarguy Have you considered a Jetta? I don’t know how they lease and understand they discount. I have driven two in the past few months. I had a 25 SE to drive yesterday as a loaner as the Arteon was being serviced. The Jetta is roomy, has all the safety nannies, drives great, comfortable, quick, 8 speed aisin (Toyota based) automatic. I wasn’t even trying and got 44 mpg on both legs of my 40 mile commute. I would post pics, but cannot sign in from my phone. sigh

That would be more than a no brainer, especially in this market. I’m sure back then the money factor was close to zero. Right now, so many leases on ICE vehicles have 6%ish money factors. Even with an extremely healthy discount, I don’t know how plausible a cheap Jetta lease would be.

Yep - on my '16 Jetta SE lease, I paid a total of $50 in interest for 3 years (.00005 MF, IIRC).

It’s a great idea. Is it the 1.4 L Turbo 4 cylinder that still powers the Jetta? It packs a lot of size, tech, & safety features into a very competitive sticker price. I’m afraid to go on the Jetta leasing questions and ask @Michaell or @kyfdx as I think I’ve asked enough of them in the past couple of days. At this point I might as well wait until the March programs come out.

I know that engine makes almost 180 HP in the Taos; I think less in the Jetta. But, I never felt my 1.4L was slow, especially here at altitude.
Stick, 176" is just too big for the space. The Corolla Cross is 175" and I did put the rental I had on my side and it just fit...not enough room up front for mr get carefully around to get to the side door to take the garbage out. Prefer to go a bit smaller in length if I can. Have driven a few Taos's at work & was just not blown away actually...just not something I'd want for the next ten or so years. So, as of now, just keeping what I've got, will hit 79K in a few days. Might even get it detailed this weekend, the gas station across the street has a company that washes & waxes vehicles and from the long lines, suspecting they do a decent job. A co-worker took his there and was satisfied. Been awhile so Sunday might be the day I drop it off.

Since you’re talking about wrapping (not that kind but I think we all know what kind you mean), I take it that you’re comfortable doing that and that wrapping an older car probably doesn’t kill it’s resale value very much if at all compared to a faded/scratched paint job.
I’ve never heard anyone ask this so I will. How do you maintain the appearance of a wrapped car? Just wash or wash and use a potion of some kind? And one more question, if properly maintained how long does a wrap job last?
jmonroe
I’ve done it on 3 different vehicles now. It definitely isn’t easy, BUT, I was using very heavy wrap. I have watched several “pro” videos and it appears thin wraps are far easier. I may try that next time.
As for upkeep, I haven’t had any of them very long so I don’t know how they hold up. My experience thus far with cleaning has been just wiping it off. It is vinyl, so nothing seems to stick to it. Again, my experience is very limited.

I haven’t been documenting it because, frankly, it hasn’t been as smooth as I hoped. But the harder parts are done. I’ve completed the welding and am in paint mode now.

It sounds like you’re torturing yourself going with the heavy stuff. I’ve also watched a couple videos about doing a wrap job. Since they’re pros it doesn’t look hard but I’m sure it is.

The SE has lower money factors. Even if it's not actually cheaper, it should be very close, and worth upgrading.

The Jetta has always had a strange appeal for me, despite the stories you sometimes see about VWs being troublesome. The GLI would likely be a fun ride. But the SE is decently equipped and seems like a good deal. If only they came with something other than a black interior...
Between the 2 of them my kids had 3 jettas. Never really had any problems. Nice to drive and great MPG, especially the refreshed (2019?) 1.5 my daughter had. And she put about 40k on that in 2 years. Very cheap to own.
I really like the GLI. could probably convince the wife to have that as the 2nd car if it had the DSG. Just way more fun with a stick.
I want a stick while I still can (as I rapidly fall apart in old age). Just not ready to park something outside or give up the truck usefulness.
Parking one of my babies outside hurts my soul. She's selfish, insisting that her car be garaged. It's like she thinks she owns half the house! Oh, yeah. Darn.

My wife is dealing with arthritis in both knees. At this point a low slung sports car would pretty much just be for me. She will not be happy getting in and out. A sedan though like a WRX or GLI should be manageable though!
I need to check again, but the local GMC dealer had a couple of single cab longbeds in their new car lot.
We get them for work but they are XL trim, typically vinyl seats and plain white. Usually smallest V6 but we do get a few V8’s on occasions.

I wonder how many miles of that stuff you have to apply to become good at it. I know one thing, I don’t wanna find out.

That's probably true
The SE has lower money factors. Even if it's not actually cheaper, it should be very close, and worth upgrading.

They put a lot more equipment in the SE.

That rare mythical beast. A single cab ling bed. Even RWD. Price seems high though for a strippo truck already 3 years old. Should not cost much more to get it brand new. https://www.carvana.com/vehicle/lt/3444196?utm_content=hero_cta&utm_medium=nurture&utm_source=email&utm_campaign=price_drop_xshop&utm_corr=e318eb1b-ab18-4f6b-8e07-abda316c7132

I also would rather have the 2.7 or 5.0 motor.

We get them for work but they are XL trim, typically vinyl seats and plain white. Usually smallest V6 but we do get a few V8’s on occasions. For ‘25 Ford made PW and PDL std but prior to that we were getting crank windows. We order them as nobody stocks that spec. If you find one, it’s probably because a fleet customer cancelled.

Shockingly, with those miles, MMR is damned near $34k.

Pics of the 25 Jetta SE loaner. I like the blue two tone interior. A nice change. Note the 46 mpg.
