I can tell you five ways that doing Roth conversions in the gap time between retirement and RMDs would save you a ton of money. You might even be able to avoid IRMAA increases for a couple of years, extra. You think rich people got that way by not worrying about taxes? Why do you think they donate to politicians?

Why go to Costco, when you have the money to buy groceries at Whole Foods? :o
Or buy purchasing multiple Porsches? LOL!

Get to deal with RMD's in about three years which should be interesting. I hear there's a formula that is used so one takes out the proper amount each year going forward. Then, one needs to figure out the taxes owed on these payouts as they've never been paid yet. Hope by then we'll be in a lower tax bracket to minimize the amount owed. Hoping to be not working anymore by then!

Fidelity, which manages the plan for Enterprise will contact you and tell you what you need to withdraw each year. You can also find RMD calculators on line. It’s not that much, a few hundred for every $10k you have in the account. I’ve started taking a few thousand out each year and at the rate the company hands us money I’ll never take it all.

Boy, I am all over the place. Cayenne, Edge/MKX, F-pace, Levante, Charger … I’m probably forgetting some. Basically just looking at anything quick, can tow, and can be had for somewhere in the teens with under 80k miles (preferably less).

One thing I keep checking myself with is “have I owned the brand before?” Although I know I really shouldn’t let that drive me, it kind of does. I mean, the opportunity to add to the list can’t be ignored. So that leaves just Porsche or Jag.

BTW, a seeming bargain that keeps popping up is a late-model Cayenne S Hybrid. But of course the popular opinion is “stay away due to battery replacement.”

You could get started by selling the Silverado to stickguy. It should have plenty of life left and after all your repairs he can stop worrying about buying a rust bucket.

Yes, I know about the carfax dings. Most likely has had the front bumper painted. It is priced aggressively, though. Should be a $20k car. Although they may be one of those dealers who piles on fees. ANYWAY, I like the car.

@qbrozen - It's pretty. I'd take a look in person and go from there. It's a bit odd that the Ford dealer where it was traded didn't want to frontline it, but that might not be because of the damage/accident history. Goodyear Eagle tires - yuck! :(

I think my wife might be buying into the new car idea. Probably because we are both feeling old these days. We had Wheel of fortune on (as I said, we are old...) and the contestant won a mini cooper. Turned out to be a bright yellow convertible. I pointed it out and she said that looked cute. Just wondered if it was too low. Minis at least are not usually too bad like that.

RMDs: fidelity will calculate amt and let you make withdrawals applying toward the required amount. They'll remind you with a letter at beginning of year. All of them will tell you that you can put off taking first rmd withdrawal till April 15 of next year, but note that means you have to take two withdrawals that delay year. Both taxable.
    Watch out for IRMAA.

Also any Ira can be used for withdrawals for total required of your several Ira accts. But you can't mix withdrawals from ira's and 401k accts.

Do you need it for snow, too? At least with FWD, you can get away with all-seasons. RWD would be tougher without dedicated winter tires. Obviously you CAN do it. Just something to consider.

Wow. That Lucerne was posted 41 weeks ago... *probably* not still available. However, I see that it has temp tags on it in the photos, which makes me wonder if the person just bought it (42 weeks ago?) and found some sort of major issue that they're trying to pawn off on someone else. All told, the car looks really good as far as beaters or teen cars go.

I think the TLC is the better option of the two, but I've never been too concerned with miles - it is the history that matters.

Are you sure it’s a Northstar? The ad says it’s the CX trim level. That came with the 3800 V6 The Northstar was standard only on the CXL trim level. Something’s off. Maybe that’s why it’s been listed for 41 weeks. Wouldn’t be the first time some old guy forgot or got snowed into believing he had a V8.

Okay, you made me do some digging. Found a brochure. The car that was posted says "CX" on the ad and on the decklid, but it has leather (looks like factory, but not factory available on the CX), and a touch screen (available but would have been rare on a base trim). I can't place the wheels. The parking sensors were also optional. Given the four portals, I think it is likely to be a higher trim Northstar, but can't explain the badge, unless it was hit and repaired.

I do love a dark red Buick sedan, though, several members of my family had various Park Avenues in that color.
