We looked at a Panamera years ago, it was Gee’s dream car. Unfortunately, he couldn’t even sit in it, much less drive it. Beautiful cars though.

Why couldn’t he sit in it? Not dressed well enough? Ha.

Talked to … honestly no idea. I guess an internet person. We chatted for a while. He said he’d have the SM assign a salesperson who would call me and do a video walk around. Of course, being Friday afternoon, he wasn’t sure WHEN. So we’ll see. Honestly I am pretty anxious for this one since a Panamera has been a dream of mine since they first came out. It is tough to find a 4S with low enough miles in my price range.

My poor 2024 HR-V is taking a beating here. In everyday life, it’s performance is more than adequate in highway and city usage, with mid 30’s city only mpg. It is tight and seems well built, not pretending to be anything it’s not.

    I'd take a new HR-V over the hooptie 2007 Prius I had.

SC tag renewal isn't too costly. However, the annual vehicle property tax can be an eye opener. I transferred the tag from the 06 TL to the 21 Arteon. Last year's registration/tax on the TL was $57. March this year the tag renewal was $530.00 for the Arteon. I was expecting around $350.00. It's a 4-year-old car and not worth that much. Sheesh. It is about $250 each for the 16 Q5 and 18 Passat. I don't know if there is a tax cap. It doesn't pay to have something nice.

One of the few good things about NY is that they have a flat registration fee based on weight. Maybe $75 a year average.
That is a benefit but offset by the $20-$30K annual combined property and state income taxes for the privilege of living in NY.

I happen to like them. If we had not gone the hand me down route for Jr, the HR-V was at the top of the list for him.

I also forgot to mention this when I was telling my story about the Jeep dealer. I mentioned I drive approximately 20K miles per year and usually burn through factory warranties in less than 2 years. I also mentioned that I don't want another high MSRP, low payment vehicle because of how much I've had to shell out in the past few years in personal property taxes. His response: "Your business is in New York, right? why don't you just register it there?" I told him "besides the fact that it would be illegal to do so, insurance rates in NYC are sky high and most likely much more than what I'm paying to insure them in CT."

Yeah, like I said, NY has ONE good thing.😂

I do wish I was rich enough to have to pay $30k in taxes. My property taxes were under $6k and I got a $300 state refund.

    Gen 1 or 2?

    Details...

    1. I’m not familiar with gens
Gen 1 is original Panamera, the hunchback. Gen 2 rounded things out a bit. Current Panamera is third gen.

If I was to replace the A7, gen 2 is where I'd be looking. And Macan. But I fear neither of those will be Goldilocks, Panamera too big, Macan too tall.

My tax refund will be just shy of that, about 6 figures too short! Actually, looks like I'm going to be writing a record setting (for me) check to the last 19 IRS employees, post-DOGE.

But if I am serious about an EV, perhaps I'd look at Taycan, Audi GT, Macan EV and Lucid. I was thinking of Caddy Lyriq, but, well GM... Lucid Air just intrigues me.

Wiki tells me gen 1 was up through 2015. This one threw me for a min because it appears to have a body kit on it. It looks pretty good. But, alas, no callback yet.

I like this one, but they’ll need to come down at least 2500 off their “no haggle” price to be a consideration.

Here on Long Island I pay double that in property taxes and I get a senior and veterans discount. Most people I know pay more. State income tax is around 6% but goes up to 10%. Even people with incomes as little as $20K per year pay 5%. My income is modest but most mid to high income earners pay close to or around half of their income in taxes when including Federal, Sales, etc. and of course they always need more.

I tried to jump my Prelude to is afternoon after work and it was dead. I called AAA and the guy hooked up his battery pack to it and it fired right up. Took it for a spin around the block for about 20 minutes. Drives ok. No dash lights on like when I drove it the last time. It’s due for emissions inspection. I’m not sure what to do. Should I take it somewhere to diagnose and fix the oil leak 1st or get the emissions test done and then go get it fixed?

seems like you stopped using it entirely. Or will it get any road time in the summer? At some point it is just going to be decaying and might want to consider moving it along.

I’d get the oil leak fixed and then without any lights on it should get thru inspection pretty easily.

I reserved a place in line for a Scout Traveler. Feels weird considering it's not supposed to enter production until 2027 (so will probably be a 2028 model), and I'll probably have at least a couple of other cars between now and then. I also suspect a well equipped model will be well north of the $60k (without incentives) base price, which will probably cause me to lose interest and ask for a refund of my deposit.

Ha… he rarely deviates form his uniform of seasonally appropriate athletic gear. However, in this case, he is 6’6 and most of that height is in his legs. His knees were uncomfortably high and I believe the drivers door crushed them against the steering wheel.

In a Panamera? Sounds like the seat was broken. I’m convinced a 7-footer could fit fine in one.

Wait, let me see if I got this right. You’re going to make some high fidelity noise but you don’t want to hear it? :o

Got it, thanks. I would say that makes sense but…to me Turbo = ICE but what to I know.

To make things even more confusing, I am pretty sure that all ICE Porsches are turbocharged, but not all ICE Porsches are TURBOs.

I think there are still some non-turbocharged 6-cylinder Porsches

Acura is going to have the ADX, which is an HR-V with a turbo and 190 hp. But, with a big bump in price, I'd expect

Looking at reviews and specs for the ADX I'm not impressed. The starting price with AWD and destination for the ADX is $38,350. Having lived with the ADX powertrain of Honda's 1.5 turbo/cvt with our CR-V, I can say that it's noisy and unrefined, which is what some reviewers are saying about the ADX. The rear doors in the ADX have hard plastics and no pocket behind the driver's seat. With the rear seats down cargo room in the ADX is only 55 cubic feet. The Subaru Outback premium with option package 15 lists for about $36k, and it has 75 feet of cargo room, power tailgate, fog lights, puddle lights for the front doors, padded rear doors rather than hard plastic, a better AWD system, etc. The Outback seems like a better vehicle for less money.

And I'm disappointed that starting with the ADX Acura is now phasing out Sirius/XM on all of its vehicles.
