    Dianne,

To confirm our emails for the populace, you state that it is not possible to dealer add or port add the Homelink/Trip computer part of the CQ pkg. How about just Homelink? I have heard of other dealers (Cadillac) who have done this.

Nighter50- Yes it was Dianne at Carson Toyota. I didn't think that was very good either. My husband and I wanted to pay no more than 1,000 over invoice. Do you think it's possible I don't know what to do but we paid sticker for my Honda Odyseey and my husband refuses to do that again so now he wants to forget buying the Sequoia and look for other cars that will deal. I'm not giving up I only like the Sequoia. Help!!!!

Minhski- Check out aftermarket leather. There is a place in Orange County Ca. that is insured and trained to put in the leather on the sr5's with air bags. They do it all the time and there is a special way the leather has to be put on the seats with air bags. Good Luck
  • jimj139jimj139 Member Posts: 6
Yes, my Odys. had aftermarket leather. The state of NY charges sales tax on cars, 8% in my county.
You only pay the tax on the difference from the trade in and new car. That is why I had the Honda dealer buy the car from the Toyota dealer and not me personally. I saved 8% x 19500 or $1560 in tax.
As far as 4wd is concerned, why pay thousands for it if you don't need it? In upstate NY it does come in handy, plus it makes it worth a lot more at trade in time.

    thank you for info.
  • raybearraybear Member Posts: 1,795
Hang in there! The price is bound to come down a bit more. I've only seen two offers for less than $1000 over invoice and that dealer hasn't repeated the feat since then.

Read a few of the posts to see how the rest of the country is doing. That Carson is giving a discount at all indicates you're in a good area to buy a truck, you just may have to wait it out. Remember that, like the Odyssey, you're competing with customers who are willing to pay more than you.

You may have to wait until the early birds have been wormed.
  • nighter50nighter50 Member Posts: 127
I am sorry I am not much help - I was hoping Dianne could get you a better deal. I think $1000 over invoice could be tough but others appear to have done it. I guess it depends on where you live, how soon you need the truck, and how much shopping you are willing to do. With great deals on other SUVs right now I understand your husband's thoughts of going with another car. I certainly would not want to pay MSRP for a car but if you really like the Seq it might be worth going over the $1000 over price. Comes down to what you want and can afford (but should be what you need). If this is your car (the one you will be driving), just make sure it is one you really, really like -it sucks to be in a car that you do not want!

PS - I am not a car salesman (although I might sound like one!) - I think I am just a realist.

I didn't pay TDA or any processing fees when I bought my SR5 4WD on 3/24.

Yes, I bought from the same dealer zinny referred me to. $550 over invoice price of $34,904. Absolutely nothing other than goverment imposed fees: VA taxes & tags (3%), MN $25 processing fees.

So what ever else fees they add on is just another gimmick to rip their customers who are willing to pay.

Zinny didn't mention the name of the dealer in his previous post. It's Wilkins Toyota in Minneapolis, ask for Craig Fuhs, and you can look up their phone number on Yahoo yellow pages.
  • dforrdforr Member Posts: 55
Was just offered an instock on the lot SR5 for $900 over invoice, but didn't like the options - pretty stripped down model for x 4x4wd. Will probably wind up paying $1200 over invoice on Saturday, as that's the best offer for now within 50 miles. Planning to order it and wait for the options and color I want.
  • thirdsuvthirdsuv Member Posts: 209
As I read the Edmunds pricing they are NOT
including the TDA, is that correct?
  • minhskiminhski Member Posts: 36
I used cars.com for the pricing, and there, they include the $480 Destination Charge and no other fees.

Besides the TDA, the local dealer also added $220 for processing fees. So that's almost another $1K to whatever price they quote.

I bought mine from another dealer without paying either fees. So, see if you can find one that's similar in your area.
  • minhskiminhski Member Posts: 36
Thanks for the info about aftermarket leather. But regardless of what they say, I would never take mine in to be messed with if it's involve the side air bag etc on the SEQ.

Will just live with it till next time I supposed.
  • dforrdforr Member Posts: 55
The TDA prices are not in Edmunds invoice prices since they vary by region. What I'm finding is if you want a price discounted from MSRP or quoted as Invoice +, you need to check where the TDA costs are covered. Different dealers put it different places. Up here a quote of Invoice + $1000 did not include TDA (about $500), but the dealer next door quoting Invoice + $1300 did include the TDA and has the better $ price on the bottom line.

    Be careful out there!

Anyone know if you can get tires other thn the bridgestones on the Sequoia from the dealer? Or will I have to get them afterwards? Any thoughts on the Bridgestones? I've heard that the Michelin All Terrain is a smoother ride. I don't plan on going into the back woods but I will be hitting some pretty chewed up road. Also... I asked earlier about getting accurate option codes, a couple of dealers have told me that the edmunds codes don't match their books. Thanks

66 Pricing requests just for Sequoia alone in my email in less than 2 days told me something was up here.
  • dforrdforr Member Posts: 55
that's up. or maybe spring has sprung. Very few dealers back east want to do special order - laaaazy or just toyota mushrooms!!
  • dianne4toyotadianne4toyota Member Posts: 343
You are being a real dork! I copied the text in the owner's manual and simply sent it thru here for all to see and realize that it voids the warranty when you do what Toyota recommends you NOT do. I dunno what happens when they have a problem with anything, but I can assure you, no leather-shop adding orangutan will have a crack at a car to repair it -- a master service tech will. Thus continually protecting the customer's safety and best interests.

just curious - where do you live?
  • waltropwaltrop Member Posts: 9
Jimj139- Okay I really feel stupid I don't quite understand what was done about sales tax. Did you actually save money on the sales tax? Tell me what you did I may have to sell my Odyssey to a dealer the best price so far is 22,500 and I did find a dealer a little bit of a drive but they were definitely in my price range around 1,400 over invoice plus destination, sales tax and license the car will be here in 10 days I might jump on it and if I can't sell my van I may have to sell it to a dealer tell my if I can save sales tax... Thanks

Thanks to everyone else for you advise and reply's this board is great.
  • nighter50nighter50 Member Posts: 127
can you give us some details of your deal and where you got it?

    Thanks in advance
  • dianne4toyotadianne4toyota Member Posts: 343
In the state of CA, you can't save the sales tax portion of the trade. That's something that is sometimes done in other states, but in CA, you pay sales tax on the sale price of the car... regardless of the trade value.

States that do that also tax you annually (lux tax, whatever, property tax) on the car's value, so all states get you coming or going!
    Dianne
  • sbell4sbell4 Member Posts: 446
You only pay sales tax on the difference between the new car and your present car in Alabama it may be different in other states). example:
    Sequoia sale price 30000
    Your trade's value 22500
    difference 7500 (taxable)

22500 x 3.25%(or whatever your tax rate is)= 731.25 in sales tax savings.

Simply, you need to be able to sell you car for at least $23231.25 to an individual just to break even(using 3.25% as sales tax rate)
  • zman3zman3 Member Posts: 857
3.25% sales tax in Alabama. Is that for real? I knew MN wasn't great at 6.5%, but now I feel like it is highway robbery.
  • sbell4sbell4 Member Posts: 446
yep, 3.25% sales tax on vehicles. The vehicles I sell out of state I do not collect any sales tax or title fee and you have to pay it when you tag your car.
  • dianne4toyotadianne4toyota Member Posts: 343
I sell plenty out of state, as many board members know.
There's no charge for sales tax or license for Ca when the car's arrived to you if you are buying here in CA and you reside in another state, but if you reside in *CA* and buy a car out of state, the CA department of motor vehicles will make you pay sales tax and license for CA when you register your car, and it's based on the selling price of the new car. No consideration is made for a "difference" figure. Other states might be different. And, if you buy in CA and I ship, you will have to settle up the local sales tax and license for your own state when you register the car there.

Woe be it the dealership who plays with their selling price numbers drastically... they are open to audit and major tax law cites if they do that.

  • dianne4toyotadianne4toyota Member Posts: 343
What does your state tax you guys annually for your car's values? Property taxed for the cars out there? I know they are in SC, VA and DC areas... little license fees but the annual taxes choke a horse.
  • zinny2zinny2 Member Posts: 46
6.5% sales tax and 8% state income tax.
  • zman3zman3 Member Posts: 857
Yeah, but at least we get people moving here for the welfare. We are called "Money-sota" after all. :) Wouldn't want to turn away an open hand.

Edmunds.com has made a lot of changes today. Be sure to check out the color chart on the Sequoia Options page and the Photo Gallery (look for the tabs).

I do not know what the annual state tax rate is, I know it is different from City to city and each county but it isn't bad. I own an Avalon and every year when I renew my tag it is about $80.00(I think). I have never said WOW, that is too much.

The new format really looks good. Any chance of sizing the gallery photos so they could be used as full screen wallpaper? You can use the strech feature to do this but it's distorted.

Steve: Any chance of subdividing the Sequoia forum into a BUYERS forum and an OWNERS forum? This price comparison stuff is getting BOOORRRING. (yup I paid MSRP)

I have also noticed an intermittent squeak or rubbing sound that seems to be coming from a particular area just in front of the driver console. I wonder if it is the windshield mount or the dash. It is very intermittent and also only occurs over very bumpy roads. It doesn't bother me enough to take it to the dealer yet but I would be interested to find out if your dealer finds a specific problem. I have noticed that if you don't clip down the passenger seat belts they tend to cause quite a bit of noise. Otherwise no sqeaks or rattles. I had a "ticker" and got this fixed but the rubbing noise from the dash was there before the dealership did the fuel injector fix.

What is the latest news about the booming bass in the Sequoia? I haven't seen anything for a while with all the price discussions.

Is there a solution, or am I going to just get told that noone else has complained??

    Thanks for any word.

Slickrock suggested turning up the trebble post# 1910.

I too think the sound system could use some improvement considering the price range these vehicles are selling at.

Like Mercedes-Benz C series, they offer Bose speakers as an option on those cars.
  • minhskiminhski Member Posts: 36
Just curious, what do you think of Toyota's 6 YRs/100K miles extended warrantee offered on the SEQs?

To dealers, What's the percentage of SEQ buyers take these offers Diane/Steve?

I paid an extra $1K for the warrantee, for someone who's not mechanically-inclined. Just a peace of mind I supposed.

The radio can be tuned to an acceptable level by lowering bass, increasing treble and fading a bit to the rear speakers. It appears that most of the bass is coming from the front speakers. I usually zero out the fade and increase the bass slightly (to -2) when listening to CDs. This is unacceptable and a pain in the [non-permissible content removed], it would be nice if Toyota would just fix the problem. I sent a couple of messages to JBL asking if they had an amplifier option to fix this, but got no response. Does anyone know if a TSB was issued for this problem on the Land Cruiser?

I struggled for a bit over the extended warranty. I think they are a bad idea most of the time, but this being a first year vehicle I was tempted to go for it. I eventually declined on the extended warranty and put my trust in Toyota quality. The cost was over $1000 and I just didn't think it was worth it.

I live near Albany NY. I purchased Silver Sky SR5 w/ AH,AC,CC,CF,CQ,SR,DR,RL for about 3% over dealer cost (my numbers, which is a tad over $1k). I emailed many local and non local dealers. I also worked with Cliffy on pricing to buy from him. Gotta say Cliffy is really good if you are near him. I was even willing to drive the 6 hours to get to him. He was just slightly higher than the dealer I purchased the Seq. from. I purchased from Prestige Toyota (Kingston NY) Paul Shevlin was the sales guy. I presented my numbers via fax and came to a good deal. Paid slightly more than expected over dealer cost, but I feel it's a good deal on a good truck. Considering coming from GM (a blazer), I expect good things with this truck. In retrospect I may have been able to deal a bit better, but I'm satisfied. Pick up the truck on Monday.

In post 1944, ybever suggested a separate forum for shoppers and owners. I would certainly appreciate that. It's one thing for potential shoppers to ask owners about features and experiences, but the constant drone of pricing banter gets pretty tedious and repetitive.

In 1945, tbever also reflected on the intermittent dash squeek problem. Thinking that the Tundra and Sequoia may share dash components, I checked the TundraSolutions.com Tundra forum, searching on "dash rattle", and shazam! got 28 hits (28 forums, not just 28 posts)!

Among the best are "Tickity, tick, tick, tickity goes the dash" and "Dash Rattle? Fix?", among others. The problem they describe sounds real familiar, ticking or squeeking where the dask meets the windshiels when going over bumps, especially when it's cold.

They proposed several fixes, the best of which costs $3 and takes 45 min. for you to put in (you don't have to taks anything apare for this one). Others have taken the radio out or the dash apart. Nobody seems to have goten a solution from the dealer.

Good stuff on those forums (Shoppers have their oun forums on Tundra.Solutions.com).

The following analysis of the Yukon XL by Edmunds provides a reasonably balanced review of the Yukon XL with several comparisons to the Sequoia http://newsletter.edmunds.com/cgi-bin10/flo?y=eHbM0BjU5h0EFU0CLH0Al. Interesting reading in an effort to be better informed.

Alabama sounds great as far as taxes go, but then you have to live there. I suppose I could smash out a few teeth, date my sister, and move. It's just too much trouble to save a few bucks on taxes. I live in FL and it's not too bad here. No income tax and sales tax is only 6%. Thank god for tourists. The best place I've seen is New Hampshire. No income tax and no sales tax. Imagine buying a $30,000 car and paying $30,000. Of course you have to pay the value added registration fees every year. I didn't mean to offend AL residents.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Alaska's got NH beat; no taxes and a thing called the Permanent Fund Dividend (i.e., they pay you to live there...~$1900 per person last year iirc). .

If you aren't just tugging Alabamians' chain with your tongue in cheek comment, you really need to check out Gulf Shores near Mobile, not to mention Huntsville, or the [non-permissible content removed] Dog Cemetery up in the northwestern hills. And there's always the MB factory in Tuscaloosa (close to that famous rib & white bread place). They don't make Sequoias there, but....

Here's my 2 cents. This is a public forum. Not everyone can monitor this forum religiously as some of us do. Therefore, it is only fair that any questions related to the Sequoia can be asked, even if it is repetive. With regard to prices, which change with time and from one area of the country to another, this is the best place to discuss with others who wish to share their experience.
  • rruck1rruck1 Member Posts: 91
I don't think the intent is to eliminate price droning from the forum, but rather to establish a separate thread for it or for owners wanting to share ownership experiences. I would be in favor of that. Perhaps a Sequoia owners thread or a space on the owners forum? It's pretty disappointing when I seen 20 or 30 unread messages in the forum, only to have 90% of them be people asking if they are getting a good deal.

    our White Limited yesterday.

We drove 31/2 hours away from Indianapolis to Jasper, IN to pay 41-n-change for a vehicle with 43-n-change on the sticker.

As long as I THINK I got a good deal, then it's a good deal.

The car ('cause it rides like a car) was wonderful on the trip home.

It had 11 miles on it. It's the first car my wife has ever had that had a sticker on it...actually, the sticker was never even put on!

I'm deciding between the seat colors on the limited. Is the grey darker or lighter than the brown?
  • lcd1lcd1 Member Posts: 147
It sounds like a good idea. However, I would think the buyers will inevitably seek advice from the the people who have made the purchase, i.e. the owners, by posting their pricing questions in the owner's forum. I also would think that owners wouldn't waste much time monitoring the buyer's forum and providing helpful suggestions and advices. Thus, the buyer's forum could be left to be more easily influenced/manipulated by certain types of people.
