Thanks for your reply. I will include the Sarasota dealer when it comes time to call. Did you ever remember the salesperson's name you talked to in Sarasota? Any other dealers you talked to on the West coast of Florida? Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

Cliff and Diane, what is your take on this Toyoguard package. I've been told by almost everyone that these "protectant" packages are worthless and pure profit for the dealer. I have seen it on the stickers of Sequoia's. I wouldn't be willing to pay more than $100 for this option, but do you think they would be willing to budge on it? What do you think of 38,500 on a 2 wd limited with side air bags, moon roof, carpets, and cd changer?

    Thanks in advance.

"It states clearly in the Toyota owners manual to NOT MESS WITH THE SEATS"

So you're telling me that when somebody with a LTD with side airbag comes into your servive shop with a broken heater pad (Toyota cost approx $15) that they are going to remove the entire seat and give them a new seat (cost approx 2-3K$)?

    Color me skeptical.

"I wouldn't be willing to pay more than $100 for this option"

Thats about $100 too much. Everything I've read says that after-market sealers are worse then worthless since they tend to seal designed-in
drainage ports which leads to trapped moisture.
Don't know if Toyoguard is that bad.

I think I saw some "build your own site" from a dealer that only added $135 for the $600 MSRP. That dealer apparently had a sense of shame to not go along with the gouging. I'd imagine that $135 might be close to what the dealer pays the port.

I recently purchase a SR5 and am extremely satisfied except for one item. There is not a remote keyless entry. My mistake for not noticing this when I pruchased the vehicle. Does anyone know if I can add this and whether it will be compatible with the glass breakage sensor.
  • dforrdforr Member Posts: 55
Remote keyless entry comes bundled with CQ, Convenience Package option. See link below for options and packages.

You can count on someone else here to answer your question of adding it after the fact.

We just got our first blue marlin last week (with side air bags by the way). Nice color. I've seen the brown and don't like it. I don't want to offend those who have or like this, but one salesman here calls it do-do brown. A local dealership had one a few weeks back. It sat for 8 weeks while everything else around it moved in days.
  • cliffy1cliffy1 Member Posts: 3,581
At $135, this stuff probably isn't bad. I don't think they actually rustproof them any more so sealing the drain holes is not an issue. I think it is just undercoating, paint sealant and interior treatment. I'm not opposed to this stuff, but am opposed to being forced to take it.

I've found some Toyota Dealer sites that offer any model or options you want for at least $3k under MSRP, but non in Texas or specifically in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Down here, MSRP "Rules", and there seems to be no end in sight! Does anyone know of any dealers close to me who would come off MSRP on Seq. LTD's?

Hi I'm new to this board and would love some information. I currently own a new Honda Odyssey and trying to sell it to purchase a new Sequoia. I live in the orange county area of Calif. Any suggestions of what people are paying for these Suv's? We are thinking of buying the 2wd Sr5 with some extra options sticker is 36,765. What can I expect to pay and should I go to my local dealers or shop the web? Thanks for anyone's help...
  • raybearraybear Member Posts: 1,795
But make sure you know what the dealers have available before you're disappointed. Toyota likes to ship cars equipped the same way but there are tons of options listed on Toyota's website. The problem is you often can't get what you want.

The Odyssey should have a good resale value for you, so don't be too shy in your asking price. Dealers are getting sticker+ in most of your area for new vans.
  • nighter50nighter50 Member Posts: 127
you may want to read the previous messages on this board and check out www.tundrasolutions.com for views and pricing. I would also email Dianne at Carson Toyota...she seems to make people very happy. I think many on this board would consider you lucky to live close to her. I will probably being emailing her myself in a month or two. Good luck!

Try carsontoyota.com to get a look at how the Sequoia is configured in your area, they have the inventory on the website.

Am I missing a link that enables me to scour this
Sequoia board for a particular word or phrase.
The idea of wading through 1800 posts is obviously unappealing.

Maybe you should look somewhere else in Texas. I got $2,000 off MSRP from Russel Wells at Tejas Toyota in Humble. You could order a SEQ from him and fly down and drive it back when it comes in. I would drive 2 1/2 hours for $2,000. Most dealerships in Houston GET THE MSRP. But Russell Wells on www.tejastoyota.com came off MSRP. He was really nice to deal with.

In looking for a new vehicle we test drove SUV's,
Minivans etc. I wanted the extra seating for
toting the kids, my children wanted reclining seats for comfort on trips and my husband "DID NOT
WANT A MINIVAN." Well, the Sequoia has it all. I
think the best feature is that the 2nd row seats recline and so do the extra seats in the back. It
is spacious, drives wonderfully and is a vehicle
we hope to keep for a very long time.

Anyone deal with Fowler Toyota in Dallas? Good/bad?
  • jeahsjjeahsj Member Posts: 9
I too sold my 1999 Odyssey LX for a Sequoia. However, I didn't sell it to the Toyota dealer, I sold it to the Honda dealer I purchased it from. I have a 4WD SR5 which MSRP'd at $40,384, but the purchase price was $36,350. See my previous posts for details and dealer info. By the way, be skeptical of people on this board who say they got a great deal, but won't post the dealer info on this forum.

I saw this vehicle on a lot with a scratch down to the paint and a running board missing. I told them I would take the vehicle with the scratch, but they would need to replace the missing running board. We could not agree on a price, so I left. Two weeks later I return and they offer me the vehicle at $500.00 over invoice, so I decide to take it. The problem is that they re-painted the entire door. Will this door age and discolor at a different rate than the rest of the car? The dealer assures me the paint is first class and they will guarantee it for as long as I own the car. They do have a large body shop that services their Toyota, Lexus and Mercedes dealerships, if this makes any difference(They made a big deal of this point). I am feeling like I should pass on this vehicle. Thanks for any input.

For searching specific words or phrases within a topic, I use the "find in page" command in the "edit" drop down menu in Netscape. Sure MSIE has the same function somewhere. Of course you are limited to 1 page at a time. Hope this helps.
Also- Agree with your comments earlier about "Toyoguard" . I could think of another name for it. Frankly these useless dealer add ons may push me towards the Z71 Suburban.
  • drew_drew_ Member Posts: 3,382
You can do what vasyl suggested above, or you can use the Board search on the left hand column. We have been working on a new board search for the past few months and hope to have it out soon. Contrary to what you might have seen others say, your posts do not vanish into oblivion :-)

In the meantime, if there is a message that you think you could refer to in the future, simply hit the "mark" button and a link to it will be created in your message centre. You can then add a comment next to the link to remind you what you marked the message for in the first place.

    Hope this helps!

I would take a pass on that car. $500 over invoice for car with non-original factory condition isn't that good of a deal.

I got my Silver SEQ for $550 over invoice with no warts from Craig Fuhs at Watkins Toyota in Minneapolis. The MSRP was $39,610 and invoice was $34,904 for an SR5 4WD AC, AH, CC, CQ, DR, GY, RL, SR.

jeahsj, people do use email to exchange the detail of deals & dealers.

Vasyl, I know of find in browser, but that still
means loading 100+ pages. Still mighty painful, but thanks anyway since other people might not have knew about the find.

Drew, yeah I know the Edmunds search, but I already know that the words "wood dash" are in this forum. I need to know WHERE in the forum.
I hope the new search will do the VERY obvious and list me all the posts with "wood dash" in it for this forum. Of course I'd want the search to have a scope of a PARTICULAR forum or a defined wider SET of forums. If your new search doesn't have that basic feature I'd hope someone from your side gets on the phone with Google and make a partnership that allows them to sniff your forums.

Following up on Vasyl browser find suggestion...

Is there a way to configure my forum so that Edmunds
will send me all 1800+ posts at once?
  • minhskiminhski Member Posts: 36
This question may have popped up in the past, but like thirdsuv, there's not an easy way to do string search on this board.

After 1600 miles in over a week owning a new SEQ, I took the car to Jiffy Lupe for it's first oil change.

They'd never seen the Sequoia before this one. The tech suggested using Synthetic oil, to give the engine a longer life. Costs 8$ more per oil change. Once started on Synthetic oil, can't stop and switch back.

Questions: is it really as good as they make it sound to be, worth it?

Once started on synthetic, you can't go back without damaging the engine?

are hard to shut. You'd have to slam it, or give it a good push in order for the doors to shut completely.

This is noticable on mine (SR5 4WD), as well as the one I tested driven 2 weeks ago. Is everyone experiencing the same thing?
  • minhskiminhski Member Posts: 36
I didn't get the factory stereo upgrade option when I bought the SEQ. And the stereo sounds kinda muffled.

Any recommendations for an after market upgrade, what can be done to get more decent sound? A power booster, better speakers, another radio unit? All of the above? And brands, models?
  • cliffy1cliffy1 Member Posts: 3,581
Your dealer should be able to answer all of these. Have you brought it in to them to have them check out the door?
  • doctorelydoctorely Member Posts: 10
My very first car was a Porsche and I picked it up at the dealer and noticed a dime sized chip on
the front hood. I should have walked away. The hood was repainted and the price dropped. After a month it was a slight orange, on a fire engine red porsche. It haunted me for years.
WALK AWAY. You can get a made to order Seq for almost the same money. Don't let impatience allow you to settle for damaged goods.
Just my 2 cents. Actually, if someone wants a penny for my thoughts, why do I always give them 2 cents?

Jimj139-I was wondering about the sales tax issue on your Odyssey? Did you have Leather? Did you get a good deal on your Sequoia? I e-mail Dianne yesterday so I'm waiting a reply. Did you try to advertise your Odyssey?

Jeahsj-Did you advertise your Odyssey? What did you get for it? Did you get alot of option on your Sequoia? Do you like the 4x4?

For everyone- My husband wants the 4x4 but we live in So. Cal. and I just don't think we will ever use it. Do you think it's worth the extra money? What kind of gas mileage is everyone getting? I drove a 2wheel drive this weekend and I thought it was a much more softer ride than the 4x4 what do you think?

    Thanks for your input...
  • jeahsjjeahsj Member Posts: 9
Hey, nothing personal. Just a rule I live by. BTW, did your Sequoia come with leather? Just curious. The dealer I dealt with had a Desert Sand SR5 4x4 with no leather and a few less options than you for $32,999. However, I wanted leather!
  • jeahsjjeahsj Member Posts: 9
No, I didn't bother advertising the Odyssey. I didn't want to deal with the hassle. Since it was a base LX with no leather and no CD, I sold it to a Honda dealer for $19,000. I think someone on this forum sold their 1999 EX for $19,500 so I guess I didn't do too bad from a dealer standpoint.

Besides, I don't worry if I purchased a car for a few dollars more or sold a car for a few dollars less than the next guy. However, there are people on this forum who like to boost their ego by bragging about the wonderful deal they got. I'd pat them on the back to make them feel better, but their hand is in the way!!

However, if you have the patience, try selling the Odyssey yourself. You will definitely get more. Take a look at eBay Motors.

As far as the 4x4, save your money and get the 2x4. I think the difference is $4,000. I was actually going to get a 2x4 from the south, but found a 4x4 in New Hampshire for $300 less. The reason is the dealer in the south would not discount much below MSRP.

I like the 4x4, but would have been fine with a 2x4.

The options I got on my SR5 were leather, alloy wheels, running boards, roof rack, keyless entry, privacy glass, tow hitch, mats, etc. Leather, for me, is the most important.

I have been researching the Sequoia SR5 4WD with options: AH, CF, PM, RL, CQ with an MSRP of $39870. Via the internet, the best I've seen is 6% over invoice, which amounts to $ 37116 (a quote in my local area.)

I live in the San Jose, CA area. Can anyone recommend a dealer that can beat this? I'm thinking about flying to the dealer and pick-up if the price is right (within reasonable distance.)

    Thanks, D.W.

In this area of the US, SEQ's are going above or at MSRP. It took some time just to find one to test drive. One NJ dealer offered $1,500 above invoice if we came that day! And, it turns out that the options they had were not the ones we wanted. Any luck with a dealer who will deal in the NY Metro area? We are looking for an SR5 4x4 with a few options such as side/curtain air bags (no leather). Otherwise, we'll order one (7 week lead) for $500 below MSRP since it was a carpoint.com contact. THANKS!

I live in so. calif. and the best price I have found is 1,500 off Msrp. for a sr5 2 wheel drive do you think that's a good deal or is there better deals on the net Appreciate the feedback...

What is the gas mileage you have been averaging?

I read that you emailed Dianne at Carson Toyota - was she the one that would only give you $1,500 off MSRP? Doesn't sound too good.
  • rruck1rruck1 Member Posts: 91
For the first time I have seen the Sequoia advertised at a discount on the Sunday auto section of the local paper (Boston Globe). I don't recall the prices, but there were at least 3, maybe 4 dealers advertising deals on Sequoias. Couple this with the fact that the local dealers seem to have more Sequoias on the lot than normal and I would expect to see some price breaks soon.
If dealers in your area are looking for MSRP - shop around, the deals are out there.
Davenancie: It's a few hours drive, but I think dealers in this area are willing to go at least a few thousand off MSRP.
  • minhskiminhski Member Posts: 36
Sounds like you've got a great deal there, with leather package, for that SR5 4WD.

I didn't get leather, my main criteria was GY, the side air bag. Now, that I've had the SR4 WD for 10 days, I would get leather if I have to do it again. Nothing wrong with the cloth of course, but with leather that's a nice touch of luxury to the truck.

waltrop: I'm averaging about 17.5 mpg with the truck always in 4WD. Still have that new car smell. Love it.

My desert sand SR5 arrived today after 5 weeks of waiting. I had chosen that color because of the close match between the body flares and the paint color. When they pulled the car up for pickup, however, the flare color was silver and not the gray that was on the demo I looked at. I refused acceptance and even the dealer was perplexed over this color combination. They looked at the spews and said it appeared the silver body flares were correct. They pulled the demo I based my order on next to the new vehicle and the color difference was obvious. The color body flares I wanted come equipped on the Thunder Gray version. Now I'm totally bummed out after waiting so long. The deal is off the dealer I was using offered me a black Limited at $1,300 over MSRP as a way of making it up to me. Is this a good price? I'd rather have the desert sand with the near matching (Thunder Gray) flares.

Do any of the dealers on the site know anything about how to get thunder gray flares and bumpers on a desert sand vehicle. I was told Toyota will not entertain requests for body flare changes, but some obviously come that way. The question is how can you be sure it will arrive that way.

Summer's coming and I want a Sequioa. Dianne or Cliff, any thoughts?
  • dforrdforr Member Posts: 55
Double check the details, maybe you already have. SR5 brochure reads as follows:

    1. Desert Sand Mica comes with Warm Silver trim
    2. Thunder Gray Metallic comes with Warm Silver trim (therefore should be the same!)
    3. Silver Sky metallic comes with Silver Sky trim
    4. Black comes with Thunder Gray trim.
    5. Green comes with Thunder Gray trim.

Ltd. models don't come with contrasting trim.

I'd get a Toyota regional rep out to look and confirm the situation. If they screwed up the demo build, maybe they can screw up another one just for you too!

Good luck getting what you want!

Thanks, rruck1. It would be worth the 3 hours to Boston to save a few $K but also to get a SEQ sooner than later. Our '95 Windstar is our miracle vehicle - a miracle if it gets us where we wish to go. Any specific dealer(s) you know?

Picked up my Marlin Blue SR5 4WD Monday and proceeded to review the owners documents. I found it curious in the Maintenance Schedule that the Sequoia is the only vehicle in the entire Toyota fleet that requires the rear differential lube to be changed essentially every time you change oil (every 5,000 miles). Can anyone tell me the reason for this?

    hello. great forum.'

i got a price for a limited black at $1,500 off list. i do not no if that is fair or not. i live in rural iowa and there is only one dealer close to me so i think compitition is low.

    thanks.

I've placed an order for an SR5 4x4 and I am still bothered by the astronomical TDA fee that the dealer is passing on to me. Could anyone tell me their experience in dealing with this TDA in the Washington DC metro area? I've been told by dealers that that TDA drastically varies from one area of the country to another.

This topic may have been exhaustively discussed in this forum already. But considering that there is no searching capability that I know of in this forum, I have to ask this question again. Thanks.

I worked with a guy named Bob Van Wert at Herb Chambers Toyota of Boston. He gave ma firm uote over the phone ($2000 off MSRP, this was in December). I also worked with a guy named John White at Attleboro Toyota (southern part of the state), I didn't buy from John, but he was very cooperative over the phone. Although I am sure that both dealers have more than one good salesman, I would only work with these guys as they are the internet sales managers.

    BEST OF LUCK!

P.S. Feel free to Email me if you would like some dealers to avoid.
  • jbarmjbarm Member Posts: 17
Some folks will probably flame you because you asked about this, but I wont because I asked as well. TDA fees apparently vary all over the country, usually a percentage of base invoice sometimes with a cap of a max amount.

Where I live the fee is 2.5% of invoice *with no cap*, so you are going to pay at least $700 for the TDA fee. Apparently the fee is a mandatory item and the dealers consider it to be part of the invoice price.

Post 1887 asked about the rear passenger doors being hard to shut. On mine, the driver's side rear passenger door shuts like the front door, but the passenger's side rear passenger door (there must be an easier way to say that) shuts a little hard. I asked the dealer to adjust the door, but nothing really changed, the explanation being that the harder closing was caused by a minor variation in the factory installation of the gaskets (tight gaskets being the price for a quiet ride).

It was worse when it was new (and very cold outside), but it's improved a lot with time (the gaskets are being compressed) and it's finally getting warmer. All in all, no longer an issue.

Post 1888 mentioned the muffled sound of the stock stereo. My question is playing what source? I have the stock radio and have found that the FM sound sounds a bit muffled and a little boomy, but CD sound is bright and balanced. I wonder if anyone else noticed that?

If it's muffled, you probably need to turn up the treble (or add tweeters in the door like the 10 speaker system. I run mine at +3 for the treble and -1 for CD's or -2 or -3 for the bass.

Mine has developed a slight interior squeek and/ bor click that sounds like vinyl rubbing and moving slightly against glass or metal. It seems to be coming from multiple points where the dash joins the windshield, or below, but you can't reproduce (or stop) the sound by manipulating any dash components that I can reach.

It only occurs on bumpy roads that flex the body, but being pothole city up here, they're easy to find this time of year.

My question is has any other Sequoia or Tundra owner or dealer experienced something similar, and if so, what's the fix? Before I take it in, I would like to have any other experience on the subject that I can share with the dealer.

Other than that, it's a pleasure to drive.

I live in the Twin Cities area and I have found prices are pretty competitive up here. Most will sell for about $500 above invoice if pushed. There are three dealers in the Twin Cities and the all have the "won't be undersold" mantra. I have shopped around and I have on order a SR5 4X4 with AC AH CC CQ DR FE GY RL G4 GN for $33,900. I went with this guy cause he was the lowest of the area and seemed to be able to order the car to my spec. If you want to email me @ wstill1071@aol.com I can give you his phone number and contact info.

    Good luck

Thanks, Jbarm. I think it is a dirty tactic by Toyota to use the astronomically high TDA fee as a means to increase the price of a vehicle. I would not complain so loudly if the advertising fee were evenly spreaded to all buyers. I haven't been in the market for a car for a long while and this has been a learning experience.
