I also drove a brand new rented 2017 Sonata, SE for 1000 miles. Nice vehicle with plenty of room. I would probably get the upgraded motor if I bought one.

Big question with deciding between a 17 or 18 ? How much of a difference is the 2018 upgraded Steering / Suspension . Might be worth paying a few more dollars for a 2018. I thought I read all 2018 Sonata models come standard with Bliss, Cross traffic , and 7 ' back up screen.

I looked at a 2018 (and have a 2015). The interior was a little different, but really familiar. Same with the front and rear end styling. Based on that, I would not spend extra for the new model (well, not too much extra). But I did not drive yet, so can't say if the dynamic changes are worth it.

the 2.4l. Mileage is OK. Low to mid 20s normally, but that is really short hop around town. On the highway, I have gotten 34-35 pretty often.

I got a low mileage Sonata a few months back as a rental. Surprisingly decent rental and it got high 30's or better on the Interstates. Big change from the last Hyundai I rented maybe 5 or 6 years ago.

Anyone know if Hyundai looks at Kia's the same as their own, and vice versa. Asking if the disposition extortion fee at the end of the lease is flexible for a move like that.

Actually, my monthly checks for the Kia Optima to go to "Hyundai" finance. Thinking that goes a long way towards answering the question then.

HMF - Hyundai Motor Finance? Guess the documents I have are for branding purposes only, then, and not separate corporate entities.

I think so Michael. Pretty sure Honda is the same. My RDX payments are branded Acura, but I'm almost positive it is really HMF.

I remember seeing something similar to this on my lease purchase contract:

ACH Transaction - HYUNDAI LEASE ONLINE PMT

My credit union auto bill pay (copied above) is another clue that it is the same entity whether they label it Hyundai Financial or Kia Financial.

Same with the daughter's MINI - it's MINI finance, but likely an offshoot of BMWFS.

somewhat skimpy. And I noticed a few errors. But, at least it is a decent list of the options, though missed the Mazda 6 in the writeup.

Although Honda made some questionable styling choices for the 2017 Civic Si, in terms of the upgrade you get over the Civic EX-T, it seems like it's a good deal. The EX-T manual lists for $21,500, which in itself is a nice deal for almost a discount Si, but for 23,900, just 2400 more, here's what you get with the Si: upgraded engine (205 hp compared to 174), upgraded suspension with adaptive dampers, upgraded tires, bigger brakes, limited slip differential, 450-watt 10 speaker sound system from the Touring, sport seats, etc. If you priced all of those things out individually, I think it probably comes to more than they are charging.

    http://hondanews.com/honda-automobiles/channels/civic-si/releases/honda-civic-si-overview

Edmonds has a mostly positive video review of the Civic Si:

But the 2018 Accord is also getting a version of the Civic Si engine. And it won't have that annoying styling. Plus lower insurance rates. Plus a volume knob.

The Truth About Cars on the 2018 Camry. The reviewer does not seem to like the car very much....

    http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2017/09/rental-review-2018-toyota-camry-se/#more-1590302

"Unfortunately, if you’re not pressing the pedal into the carpet the transmission’s eagerness to grab the highest possible gear robs the engine of any possible urgency. Adding throttle short of the kickdown gets you absolutely nothing. Engaging the kickdown results in a cacophonous dropping of gears followed by a thrash forward but little actual acceleration unless you are 100 percent flat on it....The sense of tossable fun that characterized the 2013 Camry is long gone, drowned to death by the heavy-handed application of local Lidocaine to the steering....Driving this Camry always feels like work. You argue with the powertrain, you crank the steering to no avail. The radar cruise control is absurdly conservative and in actual use will cause you to be the subject of constant dive-bombing out of the right lane....The Camry’s lack of Android Auto or Apple Car Play has been discussed recently in these pages, but it also has to be said that the design of the center stack borders on the unforgivable....What’s going to happen when the Accord debuts with a far more stylish interior, a sleek, fastback-like body style, and a manual transmission to go with an urgent turbo engine and a hundred-plus pounds in weight savings? At that point, Toyota will be back to courting the fleets. Don’t get me wrong. This is far from the worst choice you could make in the segment. I’d say it’s a third-place car, behind the Accord and the Mazda6."

Accord is still the best all around midsize vehicle . The new Camry/ suspension would drive me crazy on the bad NYC roads.
The 2018 Chevrolet Malibu Premier w / 9 speed trans would be my 2nd choice before the loud / noisy, cramped front cockpit of the mazda6

I don't give much credence to anything TTAC says although I'm sure some of those complaints are valid.

On the radar cruise control is the following distance adjustable? On my Fusion there are 3 settings and the closest one is a normal following distance.

They remind me of teenagers who either say things just for shock/pr value or get offended and rant, pout and whine like children.

Wouldn't surprise me if Toyota did something to piss them off. At one time I think Ford stopped sending them vehicles to test.

I wish the accord was out already. Timing on that not great for me. If I fall in love, will gave to either live with 1 car in the family for a while, or extend my sonata lease, until supply/demand/pricing stabilizes. Maybe around Presidents' Day!

Took the Fusion in for service today, just passed 5K after almost 11 months.
Oil change, tire rotation and inspections was estimated to be $45.
For some reason they comp'ed it and I walked out not paying anything.
When I got home, I did check the oil and it is new.
On the fuel mileage front, I'm over 450 miles on this tank, which I think is a new record for me.
One trip to the airport, 35 miles one way, but just the regular stuff other than that.

Review of 2017 Civic Si, which apparently has a top speed of 137 mph. I never go more than about 85, and then only for a few seconds when I start to pass a truck and then find a Corvette or something is coming up behind me at 90. But anyway, the Si, which is the size of an Accord from 1997, is a good value in a sporty car. The reviewer also likes the Golf and Mazda 3.

Some negatives on the Si: strange styling touches, plus it requires premium gas.

Hey Marcothecarguy: Do you own that early 1960s Thunderbird? If so, I think that's one of the most beautiful American cars ever made. Do you have more pix of it somewhere? I like the dashboards of the T-birds from the 1960s. The controls, dials, levers, and gauges are neat looking imho.
