Actually, I saw it up too when working in a lab at school. Sort of needed to finish a presentation with my lab partner so couldn't really chat at the time. Now if it was an off hour.

I don't know why it was open this morn. It's only suppose to be available for Thurs. Subaru Crew chat.

Who knows, just open it back up after my last class is done at 4:30 though. LOL

good for him!! Now maybe he'll get up the courage to do the air filter?
  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
13 years on the OE battery? Wow, I guess they don't make them the way they used to.

dusting off the hands and complaining that we don't have "Lava" hand soap to take care of those manly messes. I explained that Dove works fine for me when I'm tinkering - then I felt bad and dug out an old bar of Lava.

    spoiling him Patti. ;)

Give him a pat on the back for a job well done!

deal about his doing this without my help or input. I can tell he was very proud of himself. It's pretty funny around here though - he makes no bones about telling people to ask me about car problems with our friends and family. He once told me that it is a point of pride for him. He's a great guy. I got very lucky when I married him almost 20 years ago.

13 years? That's great. Had he been adding distilled water?

I got about 4 years out of mine after total neglect. The fluid levels were way low and it was too late to save it. :-(

Reminder to everyone to check the distilled water level. "Maintenance-free" just ain't.

the vehicle, (other than regular maintenance which I neglected to add distilled water). I guess we just got a good one.

What was up with Edmunds server tonight? I tried for 30 minutes trying to get into the chat and everytime, I'd get timed out.

Did it work for everyone else?

    Ken
  • subaru_teamsubaru_team Member Posts: 1,676
and I kept trying. Twice I got beyond the "timed out" only to get the message that the "chat room is now closed" (even though it was within the normal times). Our poor hosts were probably struggling away trying to fix it. Oh well, I hope everyone has a wonderful safe weekend. There's always next week!

Figures that on one of the few nights I can make the chat, I couldn't get into the chat. Couldn't even get past Town Hall homepage. Having a few strange problems this morning too, like having to sign in on each page, and my posts mysteriously dissapearing....

although it was closed last night, and i kept seeing the message on the boards that the server was updating and posts weren't accepted ... NOW .. at 6:48 CT the chat room IS open .. i was just in there!
  • dcm61dcm61 Member Posts: 1,567
I tried for the entire hour to get in the chat. No luck. Apparently the whole edmunds site was ill. Did the hamsters have a hangover or were they just exhausted?

Please load the hamsters up with carbs on chat night. I think they passed out from exhaustion.

P.S. Looks like the hamsters have been fed and are eager to start the day.

I'll chat with you, Dave! :o)

My cable was out, completely. No TV, no broadband.

    I guess I didn't miss anything, though!

PS Dave - it's closed now, sorry!

I'm sure our hosts will figure it out.

I'm a bit bummed because I can't make it next week, either. My Best Man is coming up from Florida for a day and it's that Thursday.

Hey paisan: you'll like this little tidbit. The new Prius articles talk about how much focus went into aerodynamics, the cg is .26, the Subaru XT managed .27 how long ago? LOL

Couldn't get there from here, either. Got various alternatives, such as 'chat room closed', 'error 403' message, then I couldn't get into Edmunds at all. Sigh. Sorry we all missed each other!

Happy, safe Labor Day weekend to all!
    Cheers!

Bum news, my sister's brand new Forester was hit just after that thunderstorm on Wednesday night. The jerk proceeded to drive off. The got a description of the car but no plates.

She's only had her license for a year so she was a bit freaked out. Good thing her boyfriend was with her, he's also older than her and I'm sure that helped.

She said the damage was minor, and noone was hurt. Looks like they hit the lower portion of the driver's door, so the cladding took the brunt of it. The impact was not strong enough to set off the side air bags, I guess the other car was coming at her and hit her at an angle.

I bet she'll need at least a new door skin, but I have not seen it yet.

It's only had the oil changed once! That's how new it is. :-(

Wow that's a bummer, Juice. At least no one was hurt, though. My cladding has a bunch of scrapes and scuffs on one side -- I think my car likes it that way, urban warfare medals!

If your sister had beater, would she have gotten hit? No way.

New car = magnet for mishaps.

Tell her we feel her pain.

    DaveM
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I'm just bummed for her because it's her first new car.

They do have a beater, but my little brother drives it. It has some damage already and it's more than a decade old, so that wouldn't have been a big deal. She might not have bothered to stop, LOL.

I ought to get a chance to inspect the damage this weekend. I'll also make sure she uses OE parts, even if it means ordering through a wholesaler and having them deliver parts to a body shop, which is what I did.

Glad your sister is OK Juice, and hopefully the damage is not too bad. That really sucks on a new car!

My wife got rear ended about a year ago (before we bought the Forester!) and the other driver sped off. About two miles down the road, the guy managed to wrap his car around a tree and spent 7 weeks inthe hospital with his jaw wired shut. We didn't feel too sorry for the poor jerk!

    juice,

I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your sister. I'm sure bad karma will get that hit-and-runner!

Hey, just have your best man join in on the chat too. It's okay to share your recent hobbies with good friends!

I'm glad to know that I wasn't the only one who couldn't get into chat last night.

Sounds about fair to me. ;-)

We thought about it - he probably didn't have insurance. If he did, he was REALLY dumb, because how can he make a claim now? He could have just let his insurance pay for both his damage and my sister's Forester.

So he's stuck with damage he'll have to pay for once way or another. My sister will have to make a claim, though, and get that dreaded "C" on her record. Hopefully the police report helps.

Anyone know more about auto insurance? Would they put this claim under uninsured motorist, or what?

about your sister... I hate those jerks on the road. At least nobody was hurt, and damage is not severe. Tell her about my Forester 3 years ago, also very new (< 6K mi), suffering $7K worth of damage and spending > 3 mo in the shop.

I don't know how insurance works with hit and run. I hope they won't increase her premium for that mishap.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I remember Kate, that was much worse.

I'm sure she'll be fine, it's just she's still sort of a NewB driver.

It would be really unfair if they raised her premium, but a claim is a claim. Once I see the damage and get an estimate, I may advise my dad to pay cash instead, if it's not more than $1000 damage. We'll see.

    Thanks for the moral support.

I just spoke to her again. We're taking it in for an estimate early next week, I'll share the info when we get it.

Kind of getting back after being on vacation. Did about 1300 miles around New England last week. We spent 4 days at a great camp in Maine for families of adopted Chinese kids, but then went to Burlington, VT to comfort an old friend who just lost his job in a cutback.

Speaking of Burlington, it is truly a Subaru town. I cannot believe that we don't have representation from there on this board.

Oh well, on to a few hundred posts on the other threads....

Ok, I found those pics I promised a while back. The show was in late 1980, I had just turned 8.

fib: no ISP host in Burlington? You gotta recruit new members! :-)

Looks like a scene from That 70s Show, Papa Bear, is that brown polyester?

  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
Well, it was 1980, so polyester pants was likely 'in' still. I thought the clothing looked like an episode of 'The Match Game'.

I didn't know Bozo the clown had Superheros pictures on his set!

    Great photos.

Back from a week's vacation on one of the Calendar Islands in Maine's Casco Bay. Very relaxing and laid-back, just what we needed. A couple of day trips on the ferry over to Portland and one extended day trip up to Freeport and Augusta, otherwise entirely on the island.

Portland must be on par with Burlington, VT as a Subaru town as I saw examples of pretty much every model in the full model range from 1980 to present. For example, on the 3-mile shuttle ride from the ferry terminal to the airport I counted 42 Subies on the road.

I'm still catching up on the posts in the forums to see what the hot topics have been of late.

Polyester made a come back - the local dept. stores were stocked full last year.

I read that many auto fabrics are polyester now because it doesn't fade and it doesn't absorb stains. Pretty funny.

We were right "around the corner" from you - Freedom, MA - about 30 miles northwest of Augusta, at Hidden Valley Camp. We then headed due west, thru New Hampshire, and across to Burlington, VT. Yep, an old Subi in every yard, and a new one in every driveway.
