Dan, I looked at Legacy GT's, 2.5i's and OB LL Beans, although I was looking under the driver's seat, only. The models with power driver seat all have a flate, carpeted panel that comes down to within 1.5 inches of the floor, and that panel is fixed, i.e. doesnt move up or down with the seat bottom, but does move forward and rearward with the seat. Directly in front of that flat panel is a horizontal round metal rod that is part of the seat base. No subwoofers on the cars I looked into.
Serge - some budget priced places I tend to like include:
* Lebanese Taverna Express (Rockville) * Ledo's Pizza (Rockville or College Park) * Los Chorros (Wheaton)
Those are Middle Eastern, Italian, and Tex-Mex, respectively.
Seems like everyone has a turbo now! The Fence is getting lonely. Loosh, Brian, Mark, pretty soon Ken, who greased The Fence so that people keep slipping off? Patti? ;-)
Well, I'm posting from Ocean City, MD, from our new condo! Got broadband hoooked up on the 3rd day so I don't miss any more chats! My wife can also work from here now. Life is good.
Next time I'll hook up wi-fi so I can surf the web from the balcony. :-)
Well, it's about time; we are now ready for November 2004...the powers that be in the FLorida Election Commission have finally settled on the latest and greatest voting machine...up to date and NO HANGING CHADS!!! Here is the official photo released by the Governor's office
Any of you guys near there? I'm delivering a subie down there tomorrow night late, curious the best way to there from up here in NY/NJ and if anyone is around for a midnight meet up at a quickie mart or something
Take I-95 south to Balt Beltway (I-695) to I-70 west (just as you would as if you're going to Summit Point). Take I-70 to Mt. Airy and get off on Rt.27 south heading towards Damascus. When you get in to Damascus, 27 turns so be careful to stay on 27. Follow towards Germantown. Within a few miles you will come to Rt 355. Make a left on 355 and that will take you to Gaithersburg. It's the next town down from Germantown.
Stop by FitzMall (Fitzgerald's) while you're there. They have several car outlets there, including a Subaru dealer.
Well, we closed last week without a hitch. Spent the weekend moving some things in, got a new grill, fired it up yesterday and christened the new house with a nice Memorial Day meal. All is good.
Enjoy the condo, Juice. I'm assuming your closing was nice and simple, yes?
And congrads to Mark on the new Forester. Have fun!
I'm beat, never cleaned so much in my life. Glad to be back home - I needed the break!
We can host a Crew beach party but it'll have to be 2 guests at a time. The place is pretty small, it'll be an adjustment for us since the house we are accustomed to has 4.3 times the square footage.
Dan: yes, thanks, all went well and no surprises. Well, the A/C is dead but we new that coming in and got a partial credit for it at settlement.
No pics until I paint and re-carpet. :-)
Serge: still requires too much thought!
mike: yes, I am very close to there, call me on my cell and I'll meet you. In fact, bring the skid plate if you can (if not no prob).
My hitch and rear diff. cover finally arrived and goes on Thursday. It's only been a month since I ordered it!! SOC ships from back East, and in good Canadian fashion I think it was sent by dog-sled. They run much slower now the snow has melted.
Question: Does anyone know at what point an insurance company decides to total a car? My niece was in an accident last night. The repair shop quoted her $3500 for the work. Kelly Blue Book gives the trade in value as $6500. Because it was the front end that was messed up, she is hoping for it to be totalled. The good thing is both her and her fiancee were not hurt.
When mine was wrecked last December, they would have totalled it at 80% of current retail value. Original estimate was slightly below that mark, so they repaired it. Halfway through the work, the estimate was revised to over 80%, but they continued the work since they'd spent so much to that point anyway.
From what I understand, it was an insurance company decision. The 80% mark was not set in stone, and can vary from company to company.
While I'm not off it yet and I'm not an "official" member of the crew I have made my decision.
Spent most of this past weekend car shopping. Drove the OBXT Ltd. w/auto, GT Ltd. Sedan w/auto, GT Ltd. Wagon w/manual and a Volvo V70R w/auto. Needless to say the wife and I are very impressed with the new offerings from Subaru. We both much preferred the ride and feel of the new Subaru's to the Volvo.
I've decided to get the GT Ltd. Wagon with manual tranny (in Platinum Silver). While I really liked the way the auto drove and all the cool ways to shift it, I guess I'm just not ready to retire my left leg. ;-)
Mark - Glad to hear no one was injured.
Juice - Congrats on the new condo!
Swampy - Way to be consistent! ;-) You'll get 'em next time. Maybe not all of them but hopefully at least one or two!
Hi everyone. It's been quite a while since I last posted, but work and family commitments have kept me real busy the last few months. Anyway, I just ticked 50k miles on my 02 OBW purchased 9/3/02! So far so good. I still have original rotors, pads and tires -- thanks to a religious schedule of rotating tires and torquing lugs myself. No real problems except and oil pump seal and O-ring replaced under warranty at 19k miles and a squeaky timing belt tensioner replaced under warranty at 30k miles. Otherwise she's given a steady diet of Mobil1 10w30 with an OEM filter every 5k miles, a batch of fresh ATF every 15k miles and the other recommended maintenance items. I couldn't be happier with this car.
Congrats to Juice and Dan on the new houses, and everyone else on their new Subaru purchases. Hopefully I'll be adding another Subie to the family when my wife's car's lease is up in November.
Ian: you can come visit the beach condo any time, but I get to drive the GT while you're there! ;-)
OK, I have to make a plea to Save The Fence! People are dropping off like flies, I mean, who is left on there?
Lark6? The other day he hinted at a Forester XT, so who will be keeping me company? Ken is hanging by a thread, Ian has crouched and is ready to jump off head first into a GT.
We kind of brush past this one without much fanfare. Our little village has a great parade down Main St. (two stores, a dozen 200 year old homes, and the town hall), followed by presentations and speeches. My daughter and I marched with our Soccer Club. The keynote speaker, a young vet just home from Iraq left me deeply moved.
It is a good time to remember those that gave everything so that we can have so much. I don't often agree with our present administration, but that day is a time to put differences aside and thank all those that serve.
Re:fence - It is going to be a while before I can do any "leaping" towards a new Subaru, at which time I'll have to choose between the OB & Legacy turbo's. Plenty of time to do some test drives. Maybe we can do some at the SIA tour?
Today we replaced our daughter's aging white Prelude with a new black CRV EX. We wanted the EX because it comes with ABS and side airbags.
She's on cloud nine now, and I guess that's what's important. She liked the Forester, but her heart was set on the CRV. I'm sure it will be a good car for her.
an adventuresome few days! Our weekend was a bit nuts - Juice be ready - - -shore place thing I think. Our small dinner gathering scheduled for 6 of us turned into rousing time with 14 folks for dinner. It went off without a problem and we had fun. The evening was wrapped up with a campfire and toasted marshmallows and S'mores. The kids got sleepy while we all told stories about the "Jersey Devil" - I guess we're not that good at the scary stuff - but it was a great time.
We also spent a moment of silence for our troops and the Vets. A salute to all who have served or are serving!
But seriously, they are nice cars, and I could certainly see the Honda being more attractive to young women. I don't have any science of theory behind it, but I'm certain the stats back it up. Subie needs to make the next redesign sexier/trendier in appearance to win the young demographic.
I hate to admit it, but it is a very nice car, and she's thrilled with it. She especially likes the flexibility and all the room of the interior. She just couldn't generate a whole lot enthusiasm over having another Subaru in the family, and it being her daily driver; and yes, styling was an issue, but not an overriding issue. She's got to live with this car for many years, so she had better be happy with it.
Yours truly will also be happy when she starts taking over the car payments in about a year or so, once she's out of nursing school.
juice if you look WAY over here, i'm making my way very slowly to the fence (think snail's pace) .... but i'm far from being on the 'jumping off' side .. lol
My daughter called me tonight with the news that her husband will be shipped to a field hospital in Baghdad on July 15, the day after his 26th birthday. She is in Louisiana with 2 boys (8 and 4 1/2). We knew this was a possibility as we had wanted them to come visit this summer and he'd already been told that there were no leaves as they 'might' be shipped out. She said the "good news" is that she and the boys will come for an extended visit before the older one has to be back for school. Keep her family in your thoughts and prayers for the next year. Brenda
Thank him for me personally Brenda! All our military fighting the War on Terror have a special place in my heart as I was 3 blocks from ground zero on 9/11!
I'm still there, juice. I'm so firmly planted that I can't even see over the sides. Base GT wagon & WRX wagon lead the race, but I really haven't been able to rule anything out conclusively - FXT, OBXT, Legacy 2.5i, OB 2.5i..... Well, except sedans, I have ruled out any possibility of a sedan. So does that put me anywhere near the edge of the fence? I guess I have about a year to get it figured out, so I just plan on having fun atop the fence until then.
Ian: Seattle? It'll be about $3.2 billion in gas costs. ;-)
Boy, $2.27 today, most I've ever paid. Premium was $2.43, and there was a person in Full Service paying $2.93 for premium! Yikes!
Good, I have Mark, Randy, and Brenda keeping me company on The Fence.
Bob: tell her congrats from me. I can understand that she didn't want to drive the same car her mom does - I felt the same way at her age.
Have the oil changed at a reputable shop. There have been a few issues with double gaskets and pinched gaskets on oil filters, NHTSA has been investigating and found 22 cases of engine fires on the CR-V.
The tech should wipe the area after the old filter is removed, that'll prevent a double gasket. The new filter gasket should be oiled so it glides on nicely and does not pinch. That plus use a quality oil filter.
Brenda- Please let your son-in-law know we support him. It is my sincere hope that this action we have undertaken in Iraq can be brought to a timely resolution that brings him and his comrades home safely.
Ditto Lucien's comments. I hope that your son-in-law finishes his duty without incident and that the action we've undertaken in Iraq comes to a speedy close.

I had an Escort that had $2200 of damage and they totalled it out and paid me $3000. So it does not have to exceed the value of the car, FWIW.

if the condition looks anywhere close to how Al'Gator looked like, it probably would be totalled.
Glad the everyone came out of it OK.
Oh, apary from value, I think they take the integrity of the vehicle's structure into consideration too.
