Yes, that's how I like 'em. I've been known to nuke bagels rather than toasting them to get them nice and chewy.

I agree that most bakeries make "rolls with a hole" as you called 'em.

    Nicholas,

That was a great story. Congratulations to you, your wife, and all 4 kids. As hard as I work, and as tired and frustrated with life as I sometimes get, I just cannot imagine doing what you and your peers do on a regular basis. We are all grateful!

    Dave,

That section of the Taconic Parkway is quite beautiful, and an enjoyable drive. It has very few of the narrow, guardrail hugging sections like the lower stretch. Instead, you get to enjoy wide sweeping curves thru dense forest, and high vista views in which you can see out over 20+ miles of sparsely populated valleys. I have lived along it for nearly 25 years, and still like to drive it. Business takes me to the Albany Nanotec Center occasionally. Waive 'hi' as you pass Beekman Rd (just north of I-84).

You might make a little better time on the Thruway as the speed limit is higher, but it is booooring. But stay alert for deer and State Troopers. I suspect that some small towns around Claverack help to balance their budget from traffic court fees.

If I am going up to Burlington, VT, I will take the Taconic up to I-90, and switch over to Rt 22 to continue North. Again, very scenic, but sometimes a little slow thru some of the towns.

Thanks Steve. :) Great info as usual.

I'll be doing mucho back road / scenic traveling on the trip.

Route 209 thru Delaware Wap Gap, Taconic Parkway, Rte 22 / 43 to Hancock, MA
    Rte 7 / 4 to Woodstock, VT
Rte 2 across MA to drop my daughter off at camp in ME (not looking forward to the drive on 495 / 95 though)

(not looking forward to the drive on 495 / 95 though)

I jump on 495 outside of Lawrence, and off 95 at the Hampton Tolls. If you are passed by a silver GT in excess of 80mph, that would be me. I will beep at all out-of-state Outbacks. LOL!

On another note, I just got back from 5 days in Springfield, MO. I rented a Pacifica, and ended up with a Dodge Magnum station wagon. Was a total hoot to drive, but I won't be trading the dw's Outback for one in the near future. Rob M.

Well folks, I traded in the SVX today on the 04 Nissan Armada LE. So far so good. :)

Well, some lucky person will be finding a gem of a SVX on the used lot in NY, that's for sure.

I guess you'll have to write up how the 4x4 system works on the Nissan. :D

    Mike,

I'll miss seeing the SVX around. When you traded it in, I hope you forgot to mention some of the drving "demonstrations" performed in it ;) .

So what will lead the 48hrs run now?

    Congrats on the Armada.

There's a '92 SVX in my local dealers lot. It looks like a really well kept car and the styling still stands the test of time. Maroon with only 77,000 miles on the odo.

    Tempting .....

I didn't know you were gonna trade in the SVX, you probably mentioned it before but for some reason that didn't register.

Oh well, I hope she finds a nice new home.

    Sniff.

    ;)

Whenever I drive up north I'll be on the lookout for an Armada pulling a trailer with Franken L on it.

    ... she'll be missed :sniff:

Hey Alan, where is this dealer?
  • amsbearamsbear Member Posts: 147
I saw at Somerset Subaru in NJ. I think the real color name is Burgundy. The asking price is a bit high I think ($7,800), but I'm really not "in the know" on the resale values for these. Maybe Paisan can chime in on this one.

I traded in the SVX today

I thought Patti had her eyes on it?

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
    Well lets see.

I think the trans was begining to go on the SVX, so rather than sell it I felt better trading it in. They are going to wholesale it anyway, so keep your eyes out on Ebay for it.

The Armada is a new 04 LE leftover. Got it with 100 miles on it. I decided to forgo the DVD and Navigation to bring down the payments and fnanced it at 1% for 60 months. I'll probably add in an aftermarket DVD/Navi at some point.

$7800 is a bit high for an SVX these days. If I were in the market for one, I'd look to pay no more than $4-5K even for a relatively newer one.

Bat: I will have the Legacy turbo for the 48hrs :) That is going to be my daily driver and the L will be the racecar.

Didn't make the chat this week, reason I was and still am beat out of my mind tired,I started Monday building a carport, Had 3 holes to dig 6 feet deep for concrete piers, By tonight it is finished except for a few little details.

It is 20ft. by ten ft. 8ft. high at the front 12 ft. high at the back. will post pics when I get some down time. It has a back wall with door and window.

    Cheers Pat.

That was it, Rob. Good memory.

Pat - car ports are great. Yours is about the size of ours, minus the back wall. We have a fence there instead.

    OK, cheer me up, please.

Some vandals threw a rock right through the back windows of the Miata (and the top is new). The glass shattered so badly there were shards on the top of the dash. The rock was thrown so hard that it proceeded inside and smashed the cup holder on the center console into 7 peices.

Fortunately, only the window was damaged, not the top itself. I can replace just the window portion for about $150 plus labor.

Also, the cup holder gave its life to protect the dash and center console, which were unharmed. The console looks OK even without the cup holder so that's no big deal.

Took about 2 hours of sweeping and vacuuming to get all the glass out.

I filed a police report but with no leads they only took information over the phone.

Called insurance but I have a $250 comprehensive deductible, so I doubt it would even kick in to help much if at all, plus would a claim like that put the dreaded "C" on my insurance record?

No idea who did it, probably teenage vandals with nothing better to do. Kinda happened out of the blue. :(

and how do you know that it was not the anti-subaru terrorists trying to send a message?

maybe it was someone in a STi doing a 5k dump clutch that threw the rock?

maybe it was a rock coming off of Bobs vehicle after a tree dump run?
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
at least they didn't knife the top since it sounds like the glass won't be too much trouble to replace.

speaking of 5k clutch drops, I can honestly say that I did my first high RPM launch in the Evo this weekend. I was working 1 day in Dallas and then visiting friends the rest of the time, and with 2 friends in the car I thought it was a good idea to just rev it up and dump the clutch... somewhere around 5500-6000 rpm LOL.

I kind of thought the clutch force limiter would intervene and nothing much would happen as it slipped a bit and we went on our way. but the result was somewhat surprising as it grabbed hard and we did a wicked 4 wheel burnout for about 5-8 feet.

friends were suitably impressed and a few hours later, I returned to being 29 from my temporary age of 17. :D
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
    Haaaaa

I can't wait to actually do a burnout for the first time in years with the armada! I'll then return to my 31 year old age as well!

It was parked in front of my house. We have 3 cars but only 2 fit in the car port. The Subies get priority because they carry the kids and if it's raining the car port gives us shelter.

Swampy - maybe I grunted so loudly that it shook the earth? It's possible.

Colin: my new window will cost less than your new clutch. :P

Calling Performance Buyers Club right now for an estimate on the new window...

It's too bad some people are like that. At least it wasn't worse!

    tom
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Looks worse than I thought, a whole new top is just $90 more than a new window by itself because they have to remove the entire thing, so you pay for all the labor either way.

Looks like I'll have to make an insurance claim after all. :(

    Juice -

Putting it politely, that stinks! I guess you should be grateful they threw it while the car was parked, rather than when you were driving down the block.

I'm going to behave from now on, an Evo clutch bills out at 10.5 hours of labor. Suffice to say it's not nearly as easy as a Subaru clutch. :(

How many hours for a Subie clutch?
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
I can do it in about 8 hours with a friend and a cherry picker. if you have a lift or pit, you can drop the tranny instead but it's easier to get the engine out otherwise. even then, dropping the transmission isn't THAT much easier because you have to pull the axle stubs which isn't too fun.

    ~Colin
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Trans can be done w/o a lift or anything.

We've done em in about 5 hrs on our backs. Just a trans lift is needed.

They did mine in the legacy on a lift in about 3.5-4

Bummer indeed juice I can relate as rita's little car got the key job a few weeks ago. Cost us $300 deductible.

    Cheers Pat.

Not that this will make you feel better juice but one of my old neighbors had a car battery thrown from a moving vehicle through the rear window of their aging VW wagon. The battery broke into pieces inside the car. It was a total loss.

So, yeah, it could be worse.

    Sorry,

    G'day

It could be worse: A driver in in South Woodham Ferrers, Essex in south-east England, was driving his car when a frozen sausage came through his open window and hit him on the nose, He managed to stop his car without hitting anyone else at which point passers-by came to his aid. The driver lost a lot of blood from his broken nose but opted against going to hospital, the spokesman said. "I feel very sorry for him - it must have been an incredibly lucky or unlucky shot to get the sausage through a moving car window - I have never seen or heard of anything like this before," the ambulance spokesman said. "

Are you sure it was a rock, Juice

    Cheers

Pat - I am sure that a car port will make winter up by you a little easier to bear.

Juice - sorry to hear about the car. Maybe a strike by one of those "income tax" terrorist groups? j/k

    Steve
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Oh yeah, I found the rock and kept it as a souvenir.

Noone wants to do just the window, so it looks like a new top, $900-1000. Plus the broken cup holder, maybe $40, and a tear in the shift boot, maybe another $30 or so. Call it a grand. $250 deductible if I make a claim.

Here's the question - will I get the dreaded "C" on my insurance record? I ask because last time we made a claim, our rates went up by $300 for the next 3 years, so it "cost" us $900. It would not be worth making a small claim if that's the case.

I'm not sure because there was no driver error, but does this affect your rates?

    -juice
  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
    Juice,

In NY, this would be a claim under the 'comprehensive' category (fire/theft/vandalism), which normally does not merit a rate increase, but your State and policy clauses (along with your gas mileage) may vary...
