Welcome to Edmunds. I moved from Rogers Park almost six years ago and, while I have some mounted studs sitting on my back porch, I don't miss them on my Subaru down here in Boise.

That IS interesting! I've never heard about 'deer leases', of course, I've never shot and killed anything in my life (nor do I ever want to!) :D So, did you do some hunting too? And this is normal to do on a honeymoon if you're a hunter? ;)

Wow, you learn something new everyday! And we learn more about each other too!

    Thanks Bren!

Wellll, I'm not much of a hunter. I've done some target shooting, but I'm just not really into the whole 'gun' thing. Don't tell anyone... they'll question my Texas heritage ..lol

As for it being "normal" .. well I've decided there was very little that was "normal" about that relationship/marriage ...

Ha ha, that was me. Noobie mistake. For some reason, once I registered, it started showing me page 1 of every discussion as a default instead of the most recent page. So I thought I was replying to a fresh query. Hope you can still use the info, 5 years later!

My wife and I did the Disney World/Big Red Boat cruise thing for our honeymoon in 1988. It was the first time either of were ever there. It was definitely memorable. And there were people on the cruise portion for their honeymoon as well!

    No problem, Will... welcome!
I haven't used studs on my OB since I got it - 6 years ago last month. We used them on my wife's FWD minivan, but it went away 2 winters ago, and we're doing fine with heavily-siped Toyo Open Countrys on her Suburban. Both get along just fine without.

    Cheers!

Oh yeah, well my Disney is bigger than your Disney. :P

They actually have 4 parks in Orlando, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM Studios, and Animal Kingdom. Universal Studios also has multiple parks, and there's a Sea World too. Wet N' Wild, Busch Gardens (on the Tampa side), Cypress Gardens, etc.

Florida is loaded with parks, you could spend the rest of your life in la-la-land. I feel nauseated after 3 days there, to be honest.

Oh, and Disneyland (CA) covers 140 acres. Disney World (FL) covers 30,000 acres.

    But that's OK, size doesn't matter. :P

Don't worry Bren, your secret is safe with us. ;) We won't report you to the NRA! :D

Well, our Disney was first. :P

And while Florida is nice, the weather year round in So Cal is still nicer! (Been lots a places- no where has weather quite like San Diego!) :P

Besides, we know how to count votes on the West Coast! :surprise:

My wife's durn relatives all left San Diego and some wound up in Lakeland Florida for part of the year, which is why I wound up at Epcot last year. I would have had more fun at the theme park I think. :P

Well, that explains the antennae and green skin. :)
  • jeffmcjeffmc Member Posts: 1,742
The way I see it, it's a tie - they both have Jim Henson's Muppet Vision 3D. What else matters?! Wikipedia says there was to be an entire Muppet-themed area in FL, but it was axed due to budget cuts. Bummer. That would've given the decisive advantage to Disneyworld.

    G'day

Now what a shocking waste. If they'd included a full Muppets park, I'd be there in a flash. One of the all time great TV shows with a lovely blend of US and British humour.

One of my all time favourites is Scooter singing "Simon Smith and his Amazing Dancing Bear" with Fossie choking on a chain around his neck. Fossie is probably my favourite Muppet, although there is competition.

I went to Uni. with a lovely short, cute, very self centred girl with generous curves who was rather proud of being known as Miss Piggy (She even had a very short nose). The likeness was uncanny and she played up to it.

    Cheers

    G'day

Thought you would be interetsed in the local Australian take on the GT. STi are the Subaru of Australia tuning house and have a long track record of working over WRXs. Their staff tend to have the serious shirt and tie look of mechanical and electronic engineers wringing the last gram of weight off each item and extracting the last fraction of a kilowatt from the machinery. Watching them tune a WRX is fascinating. Place vehicle on dyno. Run to peak power, fiddle with computer, run to peak power, fiddle with computer.

    The GT should be interesting

My wife & I are big Jim Henson fans, so we would've loved a Muppet-themed park also. We tease each other a bit about having a Kermit/Piggy relationship. I was always fond of the sketches Pigs in Space and Veterinary Hospital. :)

    <-- huge muppet fan ...

recently we had an entertainer at our school as a good-behavior award for most of the student population ...

he sang "rainbow connection" as kermit .. and actually brought tears to my eyes ...

that was the song i used to sing to my oldest daughter at bedtime when she was 2 ... (she's now 28 and sings it to HER children)

one of my favorite all time songs ... for the message ..

I have here a sneaker that's tattered and worn.
It's all full of holes and the laces are torn...
A gift from my mother the day I was born.
I love it because it's trash.

Yes, I feel a distinct connection to Oscar some days. I Love Trash is one of my favorite songs ever.

But our (Beth & I) favorite Jim Henson creation was the series "Dinosaurs", with probably the very best episode being "Hurling Day". Earl's dreams of heaving his mother-in-law into the tar pits (an old age tradition) is dashed by his son. We loved that one so much, we bought the video and gave it to my MIL on her 75th BD.

Graham, it seems you Aussies get some better tuned cars than we do here in the US. It seems much more expensive though. Is $60K Australian a lot? What does your average Camry sell for down there?

    Thanks for the post!

Jeff - you like them that much, eh? We saw that show, it was pretty good, but not one of the highlights of our stay. I think the adults liked the Muppets, the kids are more into the newer shows/characters.

Steve - best childrens song EVAAAR, I Love Trash, that is.

My son takes after his dad - his favorite ride by far was Test Track. He laughed the whole way! It was like me riding with paisan, except I'd have been screaming. :)

The Rock N' Roll Roller Coaster at MGM was also quite good. I love how it starts out fast.

juice - something about their cheesy humor, combined with the underlying message of harmony, strikes us just right. We own as many Henson DVDs as possible, excluding Fraggles & Bear in the Big Blue House. If it's Muppets or a Henson movie, we're all over it, though. :) Speaking of which, there's a sequel to The Dark Crystal (anyone remember that one?) under production, nearly 25 years after the original.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Now that's something my kids loved...that live show is at MGM and we had to go again.

Last time my daughter made us go twice. This time my son cried when we left - because he wanted to go again!

    Henson is a genius.

I dislike browser password caching in general, but for this one problem it's been handy. Not as handy as them fixing the issue, but it's better than typing email address and password every time.

I only have to type the 'f', and it completes the addr & pw, so it is not really that bad. We just like to complain!

The fix is suppose to be implemented today, although, I don't know exactly the time it will take place.

Keeping my fingers crossed that it goes through without a hitch.

I'll second that Tom! That wagon is just drop dead gorgeous! I guess it wouldn't take a whole lot to get mine there. A Cobb AP, and a few g's in suspension bits. D'oh!

Oh well, still loving the GT as is.

    Cheers!

    Thanks Jeff!

I loved the Dark Crystal. The Muppet Show too. Though I was at the age that I had to pretend not to like it so much otherwise I wouldn't be so cool! ;) :shades:

Rainbow Connection is a fantastic song. Still brings tears to my eyes as well.

Maybe that's why Ford has brought Kermit out for their hybrid Escape commercial. It Ain't Easy Being Green! Great commercial just because it's Kermit!

Thanks for calling up some fantastic childhood memories!

    Cheers!

You betcha. Incidentally, it sounds like early results from the Kermit commercials may be helping Ford's slumping Escape hybrid sales. The purchase waiting lists have vanished and Ford now offers $1000 incentive.

"Ford recently launched a marketing campaign featuring the company's chief executive, Bill Ford Jr., and Muppets character Kermit the Frog to promote its ` green' image and remind consumers that Ford offers hybrids. The strategy appeared to pay off in February, as Ford sold about 1,200 Escape hybrids during the month, up 13% from a year earlier and 50% from January."

I know this is brought up every few years, so I figure it is time once again. Is anyone intersted in trying to put together a tour of SIA? They even have a website talking about tours of the plant now:
    http://www.subaru-sia.com/community/tour_inter.htm

Might be a good thought for the warmer months ahead. Also, this year we won't be running into the problem of Subaru bringing a new platform to the factory.
So long as it's not end of July / beginning of August, I'm in.

    Jim,

Are you talking about our ability to get a group tour, or your ability to break free and attend? My offer still stands - we meet at O'Hare, and drive down.

Just burned my vacation in O-town. Go, though, it would be fun.

Maybe if enough people go I'll fly to Chicago and hitch a ride with someone. I haven't been able to talk the wife into taking a road trip that long with the kids.
