At least no one's hurt. Something like that may have broken a windshield or punctured a tire, causing loss of control. Your wife must've stayed pretty calm, though, to get the plates. Kudos to her.
  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
Glad nobody was hurt, when something like that happens out of blue it gives you quite a shock. The last thing you think of at the time was getting the plate number. Hope you get compensated for the damage, (and frayed nerves.)

    Cheers Pat.

I never look down at the birthdays on nasioc anymore because there are over 100k members and I know so few of them.

I happened to glance down there and saw "subefriek" so I am pretty sure it is Pat's birthday. congrats!

Hope you have some nice spring weather to enjoy it and good times with your family.

Sorry to hear that juice. Glad she's okay, though.

Does it look like paintless dent removal could take care of it?

juice, that sucks bigtime...sorry to hear it, but at least, no one was hurt...just metal got damaged.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Don't think so, Ken. It got pushed in pretty good, and there seems to be a crease, though not obvious. I think a repair shop would replace the whole door skin, put it that way.

Insurance is trying to find the owner of the truck, I guess. They said it would take about 5 days to get back to us.

If you're like me then you've watched Motorweek on PBS for a while, well I've been sending e-mails back and forth with Henry Kopacz, who does special segments for the show.

He and his wife just got a new Outback SE. She gets to test everything in their fleet, Bimmers, Saabs, Audis, but what stood out was an Outback she drove five years ago. Her mind was made up.

He seems really cool so I'll see if he'll be in NY on 4/17 so he can perhaps meet up with us at the Auto Show, if not that then maybe at another event later.

Neato! Speaking of New York... any Subaru announcements planned? Do you know what they're displaying?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Purely educated guesses here:

    * 07 Tribeca
    * R2 for US plans announced?

    Maybe, maybe, the 07 spec.B.

    Anyone else heard anything?

    -juice
  • jeffmcjeffmc Member Posts: 1,742
    07 Tribeca makes perfect sense.

    "* R2 for US plans announced? "
Oh, please, please, pretty please with AWD on top? *sigh*
  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
How cool! I wonder what specifically she liked about the OB.

Hey, you should volunteer to be one of the test drivers -- or at least the person that sits in the car and plays with all the controls when they're reviewing the features.

Bummer Juice, but at least it didn't crash through your window! Hope you get it fixed without having to pay.

    Happy (now belated) birthday, Pat!

I hope they're still happy for you- I try not to count my birthdays anymore- they seem to be coming faster and faster each year!

and I will be 49 for the first time. Wait a minute... that is by Sunnyvale, CA time. If I were home in NY tonight, I would already be 49!

I am figuring on having 35 to 40 more "49th" birthday celebrations... Never turning 50.

Looks like no chat tonight, wish Edmunds would stop tinkering cause everytime they do, it just leads to more screwups.

    G'day

And there I was wondering what had gone wrong. I thought I had screwed the time up again. It's hard to get it right when we mover from Daylight Saving which was delayed this year as the Commonwealth Games were held here in Melbourne just when the change over should have occurred

    Oh, well. another week!

    Cheers

Happy birthday Steve! Sorry I didn't get the chance to celebrate with you here on the left coast.

  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
I'm sorry too, Jim, but glad to hear that you got to spend time with your daughter. Kate, Ken & I went to Chelokababi for Persian. My first time (a Persian virgin ??), and enjoyed it very much.

Due to some problems with the acceptance tests, I'll probably be back mid Summer, so maybe we can do it again.

Other than getting roasted in my hotel room last night, it was an uneventful BD. Just imagine waking up at 3am soaked in sweat, and assuming that you are running a high fever. Turned out that the newly installed digital thermostats were flawed, and had sent the temp in the room to over 90'F!!!

Bummer about the chat, oh well, next week!

NY Times sent a photographer to my house this morning. Took pics of me loading the kids into the Forester. I took them both to school.

The article will be about (what else?) gas prices and the things we do to try to conserve. Should be in Saturday's NY Times, so look for it. :shades:

  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
Talking about gas prices, it went to over a dollar a litre here, 4.50 bucks a gallon. This is downright gouging, at least Dick Turpin had the good grace to wear a mask.

    Cheers Pat.
  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
    Steve,

It was great seeing you out here again. I'm glad you enjoyed the Persian food -- I kind of felt guilty being treated to dinner by the birthday person! Next time, dinner's on me.

Hope you had a good flight back home. You just missed more of the lousy weather again. It started to rain this afternoon.

Oh well, so much for my freshly washed car!

I don't know if the link requires registration or not but here's Juice up in lights (again).

Now in the Rearview Mirror: Low Gasoline Prices (New York Times)

    Eminently quotable, as always! :shades:

Nice! juice is becoming somewhat of a favorite with the NYT!

I didn't see any picture of him there, though. Did I miss something?

    Ken
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    Maybe in the print edition?

    Steve, Host
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yes, print edition has a photo, page 7 of the Business section. I'm actually quoted in the front page of that section. :)

The picture didn't come out so good, it's an interior shot of my driving Sandy, with my son in the background. They didn't get my daughter in the pic, either. Only a pro can tell what vehicle I'm driving, and while I'm wearing my Subaru LL Bean jacket, you can't see the Subaru logo.

Juice, how in the heck did they take that photo while you were driving? The angle makes it look like the camera was right about where the stereo is.

Anyway, you gave an excellent soundbite -- certainly better than anything else quoted out of Washington in today's Times!
  • jeffmcjeffmc Member Posts: 1,742
As others said... good quote, juice! We certainly are an automobile-dependent society.
  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
It was my pleasure, Ken. Like I said, a lot of prayers from last year have been answered, so I have a lot to celebrate.

We got out of San Jose late, so we missed our connection in Chicago. Chicago was still a mess from weather problems the day before, and made worse by the band of bad weather in the South that afternoon. Fortunately, we were able to get rebooked on a later flight, but didn't reach home until the early hours of the morning.

Took a nice ride out to western Maryland yesterday, past Cumberland, Frostburg, Accident, McHenry and out to Deep Creek Lake. It started out very rainy, but cleared up to become a beautiful but cold (35 degrees) day. I hadn't been out that far in over 20 years or so, and was amazed as to how much it has developed—and what property is now selling for.

For those not familiar with western Maryland, it is a gorgeous area, and very mountainous. Unlike the rest of Maryland, the western part of the state has some pretty severe winters—meaning cold with a lot of snow!

On the way out I stopped in Cumberland, and visited the local Subie dealer there (it's the only Subie dealer in western Maryland). Now I can say that I've visited every Subie dealer in the state of Maryland! That should be worth some sort of award, I would think. ;)

It was interesting talking to the salesman there, as they sell to a somewhat different audience than found near Baltimore and Washington. Cumberland, and a good deal of western Maryland, is a rather depressed area, so I was curious as to how Subaru—going premium—was going over in that neck of the woods. The salesman said they sell a lot of Foresters. That's their big seller, and it was clear talking to him that most of their customers are "practical" with their car purchases. They sell few WRXs, and very few STIs. They didn't even get any spec.Bs to sell! Tribecas are also slow sellers. I think he said they only sold 1 Outback VDC last year! The good thing is because it's so mountainous, and the winters are so rough, Subies "do" sell out there, at least the cheaper and more practical ones.

Deep Creek Lake is a good hour further west past Cumberland, and while out there I saw at least 4 or 5 Bajas, as well as a bunch of other Subies (mainly Foresters, as per the salesman).

Interestingly, while traveling scenic I-68 (well north of the posted speed limit) I got passed by a new Toyota FJ Cruiser!

If you ever get a chance to visit western Maryland—do it! It's a real outdoors wonderland, and very rugged. Besides Deep Creek Lake, there is the Savage River, which is famous for white water rafting, and as the name indicates, not for the faint of heart. My WRX was made for the roads out there. :)

Very nicely done, Mr. Juice! The article is very important considering the way gas prices are going now. I know I had to shop around, and still paid $3.05 for premium last night.

Great area, we've gone skiing at WISP, which is adjacent to the lake, and stayed at a B&B on the lake.

We took our own road trip - first to Leesburg, then over to Point of Rocks, MD, and then down along the Potomac River back home. Very scenic.

We went on Saturday, though, when we had rain all day long.

    G'day

Well if you want to promote tyres, the first thing you are going to think of is a film with Naomi Campbell and John Malkovich, a TVR and waht I think is a Maybach, isn't it? The latest in viral marketing and pretty good.

    Really strange...

Not sure what the coupe is, but the sedan is not a Maybach. Perhaps a Lancia, since this was shot in Italy?

    Bob
  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
Interesting Graham. Looks like an expensive commercial, but a little corny at the end. :D

The sedan is a Lancia Thesis. If interested:

    G'day

The coupe is definitely a TVR, but not sure what model. I think it might be a Sagaris. 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds.

The sedan being a Lancia Thesis is more likely. We don't see Lancia's down under these days. Fairly fragile under Australian conditions. Beautiful to look at but not too practical in a toughish environment.

I am never sure whther these sort of advertisements do anything except build the brand image. Photography is fabulous though.

    cheers

Well, finally returned Bob's trailer, but got a *lot* of stuff done with it:

    * Queen bed to Ocean City (150 miles)
    * 2 twin beds back home
    * load with 1 yard of pea gravel
    * 2 loads with 2 yards of wood chips in each

Boy, the pea gravel was HEEEEAVY! Easily heavier than even the 3 yards of wet wood chips that I hauled last time.

I'm not sure I'd haul rocks again, I think I'd have those delivered. Must've been right up near my towing limits, but I had to slip the clutch a bit.

Got better than 20 mpg doing all that, too!

Due to a tech issue with the chat room, we may not be able to chat this evening. It's possible that the problem will be resolved in time for our weekly chat, but I just wanted to let you know in case the chat room won't open for you this evening.

Must be the full moon! :P
