They took her off the ventilator yesterday so I guess that the sedation that they had her on during that period has worn off enough to allow her to "wake up" ...

And speaking of progress... how's your wife been doing, Bob? She handling the hair loss/queasiness/tiredness okay? How much treatment does she have left? Please let her know folks here are still thinking positive thoughts for her (and for you, as well).
I told husband she was just waiting for her "favorite child" to get here to start responding to everyone/everything ....

I'm at home today, we got a bomb threat. Yikes.

Well, I received some bitter news yesterday. I went in to see the Dr. for the MRI follow up and I have a Lambur tear in my shoulder. Lambur is what holds the shoulder bone socket in place. My shoulder tends to 'pop' on occasion and hurts like a motha'. Anyway, I'll need Arthroscopic surgery which according to the Dr. it won't be as bad as cutting me up, but there will still be recovery time and more therapy
I have torn meniscus in both my knees for about the past three years. The doctors said surgery right after the tears happened, but I have instead been taking glucosamine sulfate tablets (1 daily) and, after about the first two weeks of taking them, the joint pain in my knees is nearly gone. Only after very strenuous activities, like running, biking, or team sports, do they hurt badly. I figure that if they bother me bad enough to interfere with my willingness to engage in activities I enjoy, I will do something about it.
I can feel your pain, brother! First off, I see you were in a car accident, resulting in back injury. Me too. I was rear-ended a few years ago, and suffered 7 herniated discs (three in my back and four in my neck). I underwent numerous procedures to get some pain relief, but nothing lasted longer than a few weeks. Because of the amount of discs injured, I'm not a candidate for surgery. However, I have had a total of FIVE surgeries on both shoulders. I never tore my labrum, but I did tear both rotator cuffs a few times. The surgeries definitely helped me. You should heal pretty quickly from arthroscopic surgery, and the scars are minimal, but physical therapy takes a while.
Check out a website called shoulder1.com. They have a lot of good info and patient forums. Good luck with your surgery.

If it can work on trucks like that, surely they can develop IRS for pickups, even HD versions.
The problem has always been trying to "sell" the idea to a traditionally very conservative customer (pickup truck buyers).

When we got to see her, she was wearing a neck collar and we were waiting for the results. She was a bit "out of it" during that visiting time. While in the room, they will allow her hands to be free of the "loose" restraints that they have had on her from pulling out tubes, etc. She kept trying to take the monitor off her index finger - and telling us she couldn't dial the cell phone with it on there! She also kept pulling at her sheet on one side. She finally told us she was trying to find her checkbook in her purse. It was "in and out" a bit during that visit.
Dad and sister went back home early afternoon and we stayed to see her again later. When we went back in about 4 hours later, she was "better". Seemed to know us, and was more coherent, although she kept worrying about the W-2's being done. (They do have employees.) We kept telling her that Dad and sister were taking care of it! She also wants pajama BOTTOMS on!
Physically things seem to continue to improve slowly. She's frustrated that she can't move more and has no strength. Last night she was trying to stretch her arms and she was stretching far enough to raise her shoulder off the bed. I think one time she stretched far enough it hurt and she said, "SH*T!" Actually that's pretty normal for her!

husband said she seemed more tired today, but we suspect they are having her move more and with less medications ... so I would think that would be expected ...
i knew it would happen that it would be difficult for all of us to be together at some point, but didn't know it would happen so soon! my girls are 25, 27, and 30 ... so 7 years ago they were still pretty young ....(well they still are, but you know what i mean!)

I'm not sure how to say this, but when I went in today there was a crabby, nasty old women who told a doctor, and I quote "I'd be better if my smart [non-permissible content removed] kids would stop telling me I can't go home" Yay, my mom's back! She was more alert and sharper than she has been in two weeks, She kept telling us to get her bed lower "somewhere closer to the equator" then help her up 'cause she was going home! Her nero...her nuro...umm..her brain doctor came in and said she was doing great still keeping her on the anti-seizure drugs but no sign of any seizures other than the 2 she had right after surgery. She swallowed a couple pills and had a few sips of water so the nurse was going to talk to the Doctor about maybe slowly adding real food. So all in all it seemed to be a good day, I went back to see her at the later visiting hour....stayed for about 20 minutes but she was sound asleep so I just let her rest. Oh yeah, I knew she was better when she asked where her teeth were! She can't put them in yet, but she wanted to know where the hell they were so when they said she could... Hopefully she will get to be transferred out of the ICU soon
Take care of yourself, too!
You may have noticed that John Ritter's family has filed a suit against the hospital and doctors who tried to 'help him' when he had the aortic dissection .. this is the same thing that husband's mother had ... we are fortunate it was not misdiagnosed!
Bob
wedding went off great ... we have a bit of time between wedding and reception at 5 this evening ... I'm ready for the party !!!
Bob
daughter is here from Texas .. picked her up last Monday, and will take her back to Indy for plane tomorrow (about 3 hour drive) .. have an aunt who arrived from Texas on Wed, and will return on Wed this week ...
the reception was a fun party ... they had a great DJ and you'd be hard pressed to find a bride who looked like she had more fun at her party ... the DJ is supposed to post his pictures today, and if they are flattering to me, I may share the URL (lol) ...
add all this to everything with the mother-in-law (who is doing so well at this point - although much rehabilitation still in the future - and I'm so glad she's doing well because she's been wonderful to me and my children) ...
and the job is absolute hell right now... between the difficulties with the students and the paperwork nightmare ... it's been a real MONTH !!!
see you guys on down the road...

The bride is my daughter, the maid of honor with blonde hair and the black dress with the grey accents on the top is her sister, and the one with the really dark hair in the black dress is her oldest sister ... somewhere in there you will spot a really good-looking older woman with blonde hair and glasses in a black dress with a shiny jacket over it ... of course that's me ...
if you're interested ...

It was funny, too, because it was my daugther that asked if Bob was coming. Not once but twice. She has a great memory, and since Bob was there last year she just assumed he would want to go.
Sure enough, we called, and he decided to meet us there! The kids were thrilled to see him.
We crawled in and around lots of compact SUVs, and compared them to the 09 Forester. We thought Subaru did a great update, and may have one in the fleet fairly soon.

Certainly looks like a good time was had by all. Hopefully you'll get some time now to catch a breather after all the excitement and company!
-Frank
so she spent 16 days in ICU, and then 3 more days in a regular hospital room before being moved yesterday ... tomorrow will be 3 weeks since the aortic dissection occurred ... seems to me that's pretty fast - especially since she spent a full week lying there not really responding to us!!!
Bob
Looks like a wonderful wedding as well- it's good to see so many happy people! (yourself included!)

husband took my Outback to work this morning because his car was all frozen shut ... lol
I felt better about him driving it in!
We are geting slammed with one snow event right after another, with the next system due tonight - up to 7 inches of fresh! Ski report says 'bring your snorkel!'
The '99 goes good - although I notice the ground clearance difference around town - navigating the berms etc. the newer, 55-series studless tires mean less power-sliding fun!
Cheers!
Paul
Us too, and I have novices in town to learn boarding. Sure wish we'd get some bluebird days but there's snow in the forecast every day for the next week. Never seen snow last so long in town either. Plenty of sliding opportunities! :shades:
she said it took her about an hour to go the first 30 miles, but once she got south of town a bit, the road was better - and this is a US highway ... she did make her flight and got back to Houston .. . it was minus one degree with wind chills hovering in the minus 20 to minus 25 degree range, and it was close to 60 when she got home ... quite a range of temps for her yesterday !!
We've only had one light dusting and one other couple of inches with freezing rain, but nothing that would help boost Subaru sales.
I remember in winter 2002-2003, when we bought the Legacy, it snowed 6 times!
Hahahha, canceled. The only time I have ever seen school canceled around here was one day in February, about 5 years ago, when the temperature was too warm. 35-degree temps combined with rain on top of our icy roads meant havoc for the school buses and those with marginal tires.
Just got another $100 Subaru Bucks. We will probably hit the $500 annual limit next month, right around the time the Forester is in dealers. :shades:
I have $1600, so that's a pretty sweet discount. If they had deals like they did for the Tribeca intro ($500 LL Bean certificate or Sat. Radio) I may get one very early on. Else we may wait a little, but not long.
I'm hoping prices stay flat, so even if the $1500 rebate goes away we'll still pay about what they cost now. We're looking for an LL Bean or an X Premium.
Pretty exciting. :shades:
My good news is that I have a person genuinely interested in buying the car. Hopefully it will come back from the shop today so I can get it spotless and she can take a look at it. I dropped the car off Monday morning for the dealer to address the obnoxious interior rattles again. Today marks day 4 of it being there, so they sure better get it sorted out this time (the 4th attempt!).
