yes, like you I was sitting outside the chat room and couldn't get it ... yeah .. that's the ticket ... (if the room wasn't open you guys don't know I forgot again anyway ... right?)

I do miss our Thursday night car and food fests ....

Nice try, Brenda, but we're on to you. You didn't sign the log book by the door, so we have proof that you weren't there!

Welcome to the Subaru Crew. I will officially roll out the recycled red carpet made from plant products in a sustainable manner that didn't harm any animals in production. ;)

We have an 09 Forester PZEV Limited currently, and previously owned a 98 Forester and an 02 Legacy.

This "club" has been around for a decade and still going strong. :shades:

Welcome! Glad you're in like with your Baja!

Still love my '08 STi. Still miss my '05 LGT and even my '98 Legacy wagon! (I guess I'm sentimental about my Subies)

I'm in a dilemma 'cause I don't know what to buy next- Subaru doesn't really have anything for me to move up to. :(

I missed chat as well (sounds like it was good timing!) partially because a good friend of mine called at about ten minutes to 5 (chat starts at 5pm here)to tell me that he had just been hit at a nearby intersection. I went to pick him up right away and his poor car ('08 Impreza 5-speed) had taken a solid thrashing.

Apparently a fella driving a late '90s Nissan pickup spazzed on the ice (it was "warm" here yesterday, about 15 degrees, so the roads were slicker than usual) when the light was changing - he locked up his brakes, put his truck into a slide, and veered off onto the intersecting road where my friend's car was sitting. The Impreza's airbags were not deployed, but the front driver side suspension was torn up (I suspect primarily tie rod, but difficult to tell in the dark), the quarter panel was crumpled like tin foil, the headlight on that corner (as well as bumper shell, etc) was destroyed, blah blah. I could not tell if there was frame damage, but that will be the deciding factor on whether or not the car is a total loss. All the doors, glass, etc., still worked perfectly.

Anyway, I spent the majority of my evening with him and left his family with my Escort (the Impreza was their only car) until they can make alternate arrangements. I told my wife we should let them use the Forester since we are used to driving the Escort in the winter, but she was quick to remind me that only I am used to driving it in the winter.

You are a good man, Wes, and quite obviously, a good friend. Want to come down here and live near me? ;)

Seriously, glad to hear it was just crushed sheet metal and not bones.
  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 17,728
Yeah, I was glad for that, too! It could have been much worse had he not been able to get a few feet back (when he saw the truck coming, he threw it in reverse and was able to pull a little back before impact, but the other driver was probably coming at 40 mph). As it was, the truck impacted the car right at the front driver-side tire of both vehicles. The car was spun/thrown about 30' to the side, while the truck spun around the front of the car and continued into the ditch (beyond where the car stopped). Had it hit on the B-pillar, which was the original trajectory, it likely would have transferred much more force to the car and in a less desirable spot. It was good thinking on his part, just not quite fast enough.

I dunno, Steve. I wouldn't mind living near you, but there are just so many people that far east. ;)

You have an STi, and are therefore not allowed to complain. ;)
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yep, just sheetmetal, they can fix it.
  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
Well, at least they'll be able to salvage a lot of parts from the car, although it may not be totalled?

Glad it's so warm up there! It's cold here, (low 50s). It's funny, here in Seattle you'd think people would get used to driving in the rain, but it's amazing how many accidents there are when it rains! Must be similar to people driving in the snow there. ;)

Good move, keeping the wife happy!

  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
Nah, not a complaint. Love the car. Just an observation.

I'd like an upscale Subaru, but there's not anything AWD I'd really want to buy. Sure, BMW, MB, and AUDI have some nice cars, but not very reliable expecially in AWD form. I think the RL is the closest to a nice car that's reliable, but it's gotta be one of the ugliest cars on the road!

Hey enlightened Mac users, I'm still having problems signing in with my Mac. I've scanned everything, maybe I just have a setting wrong on Firefox? Is there a problem with Firefox and the forums?

    So true....

I went out for a haircut at lunch, and the lady who was trying her best to make me look handsome again (forget it, that ship sailed years ago....) and I were talking about the continued development of the remaining forest in the area. She knows my road and the biking and hiking options around it. Well, Toll Brothers just bought up a whole side of 'my' hill for $1M homes. So instead of looking out on woods and pastures next year, I'll get to see how the rich people live!
  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
I'm using Firefox with WinXP, Tom, and it's fine.
  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
Thanks Steve. Guess it's not Firefox.

    Must be my Mac.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Even after posting the reminder, I forgot.
  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 17,728
Cold! Hahah; how is that for perspective?! People usually do fairly well as far as snow/ice driving, but things do get tricky when we get winter warm spells. As long as the temps remain consistent, there are usually very few problems.

I strongly suspect the car is not totaled, unless the subframe is damaged. I could not tell if that was the case or not, though the car did take quite an impact (as evidenced by it's being tossed 30' to the side) and the only thing to really absorb the impact there is the subframe.

It is funny, Tom, that you should mention "keeping the wife happy," because that is exactly what I am trying to do lately (in general - not specifically related to this).

If you don't like the Leg GT Ltd, then maybe a G37xs?

I'd say TL Type-S but the grille is awful. I have seen at least 2 aftermarket grilles that tame the front end and make it tolerable.

I was thinking a little bigger than the G. Maybe the new M? I peaked at the Lexus GS350 AWD but it's the only unreliable Lexus. Also, I'd like to choose when my car accelerates. ;)

I wish the new Leggies were nicer inside- Subaru interiors leave something to be desired. If Hyundai can make a nice interior, why can't Subaru?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I'd like to choose when my car accelerates

    Zzzzzz-ING!

The interior of the Genesis sedan ought to be benchmarked by everyone in the $30k price class.

No problem here Tom. I usually use Safari, but Firefox works. Maybe it's time for some Disk First Aid (repair permissions)?

Any chance that you'd consider adopting me? I need more wealthy parents than I have now! ;)

    duh! :)

So it was you who forgot to unlock the door?

So it was you who forgot to unlock the door?

It's supposed to just open. ModBob never gave the keys back afaik. :)
  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
    Hey Bob

Yup, ran it- no problems. Well, I was going to upgrade to Snow Leopard anyway.

  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
No prob Steve. Just send me an application. :D
  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
OK, so I guess we need to change the locks, and distribute new keys to the keepers of the flame?
  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
If the application requires the inclusion of a 5 page personal essay, I respectfully withdraw. But thanks for considering me Tom.

I kid my parents (who are doing the snow-bird thing down in Scottsdale, AZ for the winter) that they are spending my inheritance! And at an alarming rate! What ever happened to putting your kids first???

Its good to see them enjoying life. They struggled way to hard for too many years.
  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
No Prob Steve. Tell me if you change your mind, and I'll send you an app! :)

I know what you mean about parents- I've been telling them to spend my inheritance!!!! :)
  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
Well, got home and I can sign in fine with Safari- so must be something with Firefox.

At least I don't have to use a PC!!! :P

Good night to forget, since nobody could get in anyway!
    How's the skiing?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Yesterday Thursday was sunny and nice, and lots of new snow. Only been boarding 5 times this season though.

Saw an air boarding vid from Schweitzer today and thought of you. :)
  • hammerheadhammerhead Member Posts: 907
Snow's been good, if not particularly plentiful. No big pow days like last year :(
I've snuck up for a couple extra days, only because I'm afraid it's going to be a shorter season this year as well.

If you've ever seen the old (skiing left to right) Cascade Toboggan poster of the patroller pulling a sled over a cliff - that's a Schweitzer guy @ Schweitzer. As relatively close as it is to the hammerhead abode, and for as long as I've been skiing, I've never been there. Last time I was at SIlver, it was still Jackass Ski Bowl.

Here's a link to the newer poster, same idea:

Boy, they were forecasting a dusting of snow, maybe 2".

We're getting pounded. About 6" outside already, and it's not letting up.

The Forester is getting around just fine, but only 8 of our 12 b-ball players showed up for the game.

    We still won, 10-8. :shades:

    Ah Subie weather!

180+ miles in the snow today! Had to drive over to The Oaks (and back), which is near St. Michaels on Maryland's Eastern Shore in a raging snow storm. Next November, that's where my daughter is getting married. Today we had a food tasting event. It was fun—and the food was great! :)

    http://www.the-oaks.com/

To make matters worse, they were having the annual Polar Bear Plunge at Sandy Point Park, which is on the way. So add a whole bunch of traffic (like 4th of July beach traffic) to this snow storm...

    http://www.plungemd.com/

Oh, and the "Toaster" did just fine, as it breased through the snow. The only problem was the Toaster's front wipers were in shreads, which made driving, ah... interesting. So Monday, new wiper blades are on the schedule.

A few years back our Odyssey was in the shop for a week, and the dealer gave us an Element as a loaner. My youngest looked at it, cocked her head, and declared that this car looks like a toaster. The name stuck, and that's all I think of when I see an Element.

I haven't been able to get into the chat in over 2 years despite many attempts by mob Bob to fix.
    Cheers Pat.

By the way guys The Titan is now officially for sale.

I am asking $8000CDN. this is a great price for an awesome car. Still like new with zero rust, no dents dings or scratches, Interior as new, carpets have never had feet on them. Only has 55000 Kilometres or 34K miles on the odometer,95% highway miles. Had it appraised at an Import car specialist this week due to miles and condition was appraised at minimum $10000CDN

Very reluctant sale, but we are going to one car and Rita is not comfortable with the size of the Titan. If she is not happy driving the car that is a sure recipe for an accident.

    Cheers Pat.
  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
    Hi Pat. Been a while!

Someone is going to get one heck of a nice car for the price. IIRC, you did brake mods and other upgrades, plus the low miles and your annual hermetically sealed plastic bagging & rustproofing! You had a Mazda 3 as Rita's car. Will you fit?
  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
    Hey Paul

Do you go to Mission Ridge? Or Stevens Pass? How's the skiing there? I've never been to either but am thinking about taking the kids for a few days. The snow here has been crud- it's been so warm! (I heard this is the warmest January in Seattle ever!)

    tom
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Whoever buys it is lucky. That's a bargain.
  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
That is a really nice car for the Price! It's probably better now than when it came from the factory! :D

Is the Titan really much bigger than the- is it a Protege or Mazda 3? The new Mazda 3 is about the same size as the last gen Legacy.

Met Bob and Frank. When it snows and there is a Subaru Crew gathering - everyone shows up.

    I was actually early. :D

Frank and I were there while the place was still empty. Bob showed up a bit later.

Too bad Subaru didn't bring their gullwing concept.

See the Subaru Crew Cafe for more impressions.
  • hammerheadhammerhead Member Posts: 907
Have not been to either place. I understand the snow often resembles 'Cascade Concrete'. :)
I'm spoiled - 75 minute, all-freeway drive to our favorite hill.

Take a peek at Red Mountain - on-hill accomodations, nice terrain (I like the Paradise side). Spent a couple wonderful President's Day weekends with the whole family there. Hot tub, Kokanee, and Ibuprofen apres-ski. Definitely will go again.

    Cheers!
    Paul
  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
Ahh, but you ski so much faster on ice!!! ;)

thanks Paul- where is Red Mountain? Sounds like a nice place!

Even Whistler is not doing well this year- I hear they're trucking in snow for the Olympics!

    tom
  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
Hi Steve, long time indeed how are you and of Course Beth? Actually Rita's car is a Protege5 the wagon style. We intend to buy a Mazda 3 at year end. Yes whoever buys the Titan will get a practically new car, it is unmarked out and in. No rust no dents or dings.Extremely low milage. We will see, I am not in a rush to sell so hope to get my asking price.

    Cheers Pat.
