Have a great trip and it's nice to have you join us!
Patti
My sympathies!

I'd try to get the oil changed before you get back. Try to do it some time between 1k and 3k miles or so.
It's OK to take the trip before you're broken in, just be sure to vary your speeds a bit.

I quickly returned to the dealer, and they said get a new one, show us the receipt, and we'll reimburse you. No questions asked.

...at 6-7pm Pacific/9-10 pm Eastern. Hope to see you there!

They've been saying that since there's been a language with which to say it.
Well I've got about a week to go before I get my wagon back from the body shop. Four weeks has turned into six weeks; this is as bad as waiting for them to build it in the first place. Worse, because now I know just how much I like to drive it. I had hoped to get more pictures of the work in progress, but decided I didn't want to see it again until its done. If I don't see it I won't think about it as much. Yeah, right. One more week, one more week...

not exactly a morale booster
Dave-
guess you'll have to look at the bright side.
"You're half way there." Hang in there!
Bob: my dad once bought his own muffler and took it to a shop to install it, and they had the gall to charge him for the muffler! We had to crawl under there to prove it was ours!
-juice
The only time I bring my own parts is if I know that it's a specialty part that the installer can't get ahold of or asked me to get for them. My uncle screwed my dad at a few shops cause he did stuff like that.
-mike
Though I've bought parts from Darlene and had a shop install them. They'd otherwise be paying retail for some dealer to order it for them - and take longer doing it.

I'm bummed I missed a good one. Last week was very quiet, but some folks were there. I was able to navigate through Edmunds with no problem, so I don't think it was my computer.
What do you think happened?
Patti
What browser/connection did you have? Same as usual?

Just joining in on this group. We own a 97 Outback Sport and an 01 Forester S (blue!), tickled with both, although the 97 is starting to develop maintenance "personality." I'm real pleased with the Forester, however, and it never ceases to amaze me in daily traffic and off-road here in Central Florida.
Look forward to interacting with everyone. - perrito
Maybe next week....

Where would i change my profile, in AOL??
Thanks,
Ron
look at the link at this page that says Preferences. Go there and change your preferences to HTML for Chat settings.
Ron and Patti, I see that you're both using AOL and that is probably why you had problems entering the chat. We've had problems with the AOL browser and our chats, and the best way for you to get around it is to use a non-AOL browser, as Bob mentioned above. Internet Explorer usually works the best from my experience, but others have had success with Netscape too. The last resort if you can't get in, is for you try switching the chat preferences from "Java chat applet" to "HTML/Javascript chat". You can access your preferences by scrolling to the top of the page of any discussion topic, and the link will be next to the "Welcome " text, just above the discussion topic title. The drawback to using the HTML chat is that you have to refresh the page in order to see the new text that others have typed into the chat window.
Of course, the best way (but not the most convenient) is to just drop AOL and use another ISP ;-). A good excuse to get ADSL or cable modem access! ;-)
I hope this helps!

perrito: 2 more Subies in Florida? Wow, that almost doubles our sunshine state contingent! Welcome!
Off topic - just saw "The Fast and the Furious" (uh, long lunch), and as long as you're not expecting much dialogue, gear heads will like it.
I think the harpoon scenes were a bit over the top, and the flames from the exhaust were comical, but the cars are certainly interesting. Center stage is given to a Mitsu Eclipse, an RX7, and a Supra. Other prominent cars included a Jetta, Integra, and 3 Civics, plus a Charger (IIRC).
Bummer - I looked and saw not a single Subaru, though it may have been filmed before the Rex was out.
Ignore the dialogue (why would you need to double-clutch in a drag race?), just sit back and enjoy the action, and it's worth it. Just opened nation-wide today.

PS They kept referring to nitrous as "NoS", pronouned "noss". I'd never heard is said like that, even though it's written that way.
Please note, I forgot about Thursday's chat, but as I've stated before, I've had problems in the past using AOL. One more thing, before I can log on to either Explorer or Netscape, for me, I have to have AOL going also.
Bob
keep AOL on (I think you'll be disconnected if you close AOL window), just minimize it then open Explorer as a separate window.
I suspect the AOL point may be a red herring. I was accessing through Internet Explorer 5.50 and had the "Empty Room" effect. For me, because of the time differences, I thought maybe I was an hour early and therefore tried refreshing repeatedly across the hour and immediately afterwards.
I had just decided that no-one was home!
Not sure what was wrong
Cheers

In reading through posts on these boards, I saw mention of a "Big Horn". What is it?
Here in Australia, the phrase implies (actually implies is a bit mild, perhaps I mean reinforces or something) extreme male sexual excitement.
Probably won't see anybody selling one here.
Cheers

Sorry,

Any questions?

paisan - I'll have to pass on the NC trip. I wish it was closer because I won't be able to take any time off. Heading to SC in August.

I ended up getting to leave work a little early, dropped off the rental, got a ride over the shop arriving about 4 pm. Walked in the door, told them I was here for the Subaru, and the woman says, "Oh, that's not going to be ready until five thirty."
I swear the guy who called me said it was ready. Anyway, rather than sit around for an hour and a half, I called my wife to see if she'd pick me up and maybe we could do something in the meantime. Big mistake. She freaks out, having had to deal with some other issues we'd had with these people.
She drives over and storms into the shop calling everyone and their brother a bunch of liars etc.
Finally someone tells me its going to be ready in a few minutes, so my wife (who's PO'd at me for NOT getting nail spitting angry along with her) leaves and I end up sitting there another twenty minutes until they drive it up to the front door.
So I check it out, and in doing so, discover that they never cleaned out all the dust and residue that got into the engine compartment. So... back it goes to get cleaned off some more.
Finally, I drive off, and on the way home I notice that all the stickers that were on my windshield when I dropped the car off are gone.
Sure enough, on further inspection I can tell its been replaced, something that wasn't in the original plan, and something I was never told about.
And of course, after I got home, I started to notice a few OCD things. The finish looks good, but the gap for the roof gutter is a bit too wide on the right side, and some of the window seal on the back is not secured on the leading edge. Sigh. At least it still drives as good as ever, and it does look good unless you look really close. As long as it doesn't leak, I'll problably just glue down the rubber, get new stickers, and tell everyone I know to steer clear of the place.

• First I saw an infomercial called "Road to a Rally," which was a 1/2 hour hour about Subaru's SCCA Rally Team here in the USA. It was quite interesting in that it went into quite a bit of detail on the USA Subaru rally effort, and their first win here.
Question: What's the difference between the Group "N" and "Open" rally classes? BTW, Subaru won both classes in their first race. The "Open" class Subie racer had bug-eye headlights that would make the original Austin Healy Sprite look utterly tame by comparison.
• They also showed the Cyprus Rally, in which Subaru came in second. One of the three Subie racers caught fire and was destroyed.

Anyway this is a bit past the use by date but here it is anyway, the 86 to 93 Accord was a very easy car to get into, a screwdriver in the side of either front door handle then lever up on the lock and you were in.
But do not get too complacent, because of the frameless windows the Subaru is even easier to get into, just a pry bar of any kind to lever the glass away from the rubber and then a long rod rod to flip the power door switch and you are in takes all of about ten seconds.
BTW. Honda have made it more difficult to get into their cars since 94, but a determined thief will get into any car, and no before you ask I do not moonlight as a car thief, Ha!Ha!
Cheers Pat.
Although the DOHC engine produces slightly less torque, the 97-99 OB had lighter weight going for them. I read somewhere in i-club that a 97-99 Legacy GT has fairly close performance figures to the 2.5RS.
