Welcome back, Patti. Hope the shore wasn't too much of a zoo. :-)

I also signed the petition. I didn't have Speedvision for the longest time (Comcast). My friend that lived 10 min. from me had it but his Comcast was a different area. I hounded them with phone calls, e-mails and comments through Speedvision's web page. Don't know if it was a coincedence, but they finally added it.

    Welcome back!

I'm on Comcast too, so still no Speedvision. Though I couldn't bare the thought of more slow moving, rolling billboards (Nascar) on any TV, so I signed.

When are consumers going to wisen up? The Fords and Chevys running around those tracks are RWD V8 tube-frames, pretty much the exact opposite of the road going cars they share a name with.

At least the Subarus on the WRC resemble the ones we can buy. Closely for those with a healthy mod budget.

Mike: you'd be proud of me - we snuck onto the Kracken coaster at Sea World while the kiddies napped. It's pretty fun - the floor drops out so your feet are left dangling.

juice: Way to go riding Kracken, you're one up on me. Aren't Scooby wives the most understanding?

    Absolutely.

I didn't know you hadn't done it. Kracken is neat in that is goes under ground about 4 times, and each time you feel you are going to wipe out. Turns out they dug out portions of the ground so you don't. That last one takes you into a serpent's mouth. Good use of optical illusions.

How is this Subaru related? Umm, I get the same feeling when Sandy wags her tail in the snow. :-)

I just signed the petition. I don't get Speedvision, but I was at a friend's who has it over the weekend and watched an unbelievable superbike road race followed by an early 70's movie biography on Evel Kneivel starring George Hamilton.
It was extreme excitement followed by serious comedy (albeit unintentional). TV programming doesn't get much better than that!

The motorcycle road racing coverage is absolutely superb. I haven't seen anything anywhere that even comes close. My favorite was the Isle of Man coverage. It was unbelievable. They had cameras mounted on the bikes, and to see (feel!) these racers tear through the town streets on the Island at well over 100 mph, and down the narrow back country roads at speeds approaching 180 mph is indescribable.

I finally got a photos of all 3 of the Subies in our family. It's posted on the Photo Album.

I should've taken a photo up at Bryce in the mountains, but I didn't have my camera.

Thanks to all of you who signed the petition, even those who don't get speedvision...it is a wonderful station for all kinds of motorsports, Sat. nights showing those quirky movies (plus "Le Mans" and "Grand Prix"), great commentators..Susan is always complaining that we watch too much Speedvision, but we all know there is no such thing as too much when it comes to cars. When I first signed it last week, there were a little over 34,000 signatures; there are almost 40,000 now, so word is spreading.
  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
So how many signatures do you need to make a difference?

    Ken
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
I signed, and I'm gonna keep signing (since I have unlimited e-mails on my domain) as much as possible, cause I love Speedvision!

PS: I'm back from vacation :)

Okay - save me a bit of hunting please? What's up with the petition? I have Comcast and I get Speedvision but I'd like to help. Where can I find the petition and I'll ask around at work and get signatures?

    Patti

PS - Vacation was great. I got to do a lot of "Mom" things and kept busy - but it's what I like to do best.
  • miksmimiksmi Member Posts: 1,246
Patti, Serge posted the SpeedVision petition. "Send Petition to a Friend" is at the bottom.

Some boors employed vulgarities to convey their opinion. This dilutes everyone's message. If only they'd known about this online thesaurus.

BTW Serge I signed it a few day ago after I read your post. Thanks from a fellow SpeedVision-free Comcast "customer".

Anyone else get the SCOA newsletter yet?

Lucien's RallyCross article is in there, front page, and my article about the Covered Bridge Tour is 2nd. Check it out if you're an SCOA member (or visit www.subaruclub.com to join).

paisan has had more than his 15 minutes of fame. Once again he's pictured inside. I think either he or his cars have been pictured in every major Subaru mag.

A few of us are also pictured, so check it out folks. I'm in the photo next to Punxy Phil's memorial.

The new Drive has an article on RallyCross and shows Subie Gal in her old 99 GT. There's also a story on the US Rally Team.
In the Letters section there is a picture of an Outback used as a police vehicle in Burlington, NJ.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yeah, but it's funny that they don't mention her wreck and the fact that it was totalled. :-(

The articles are great, though. Isn't one of the drivers the guy from the VW Beetle ads (Karl S.)?

    -juice
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
Yep, that's Scheible from the VW ads.
    Dennis
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Thought so. His face even looks familiar.

I'm surprised Subaru didn't poke fun at VW in that issue of Drive. I guess only a few of us will figure that one out.

Burns hasn't won even once with the new Impreza platform, so that may not be such a loss.

I wonder if they'll promote Karl from the US series, since he's been kicking butt steaks.

  • drew_drew_ Member Posts: 3,382
How can you say that juice! ;-) To be fair though, the car is brand new and still needs a lot of development work. I just watched the Acropolis rally yesterday. Was great as usual. I think that Subaru will be at a big loss if Burns goes. He has had mechanical problems which have contributed to the problems. He (and Petter Solberg) are my favourite WRC drivers right now. Poor Carlos Sainz had his engine lose oil pressure and cook itself 23 kms from the end of the last stage, and with that went his chance of winning that rally. The guy was almost in tears...

IMHO, Karl is nowhere in the same league as Burns is. Not from what I've seen of both drivers.

    Juice,
That was me with Mike And Bob; and the blue OB is mine as well. As for the photo of you and Gary between the Saab and my OB, no he did not use it.

Yep, watched it last night on SpeedVision. It was wild and woolly!

Drew: PR spin. It's my wife's influence on me. ;-)

Actually, I don't have Speedvision, so my rally viewing has been limited to a couple of taped events. Drive listed the US events, but none are even remotely close to me, so no luck catching one in person either.

Mark: I may have posted it in the Photo album, if not they are here:

I have only been following WRC for about a year longer than I've owned a Subaru so I can't comment with any authority. I don't remember a SWRT with Colin McRae and Sainz, just Burns, Kankkunen, Solberg, Martin, Arai and, occasionally, Thiry and Jean-Joseph. Burns is a big complainer but he's the only current SWRT driver who is a consistent threat to win rallies. I'd like to think otherwise but I can't see them moving up in the standings running Solberg, Martin and Arai. Maybe I will be proven wrong; again I'm no WRC expert.

Bring back McRae and the glory days. They boast about winning the WRC 3 years in a row, but it's been a while now.

Auto-x from last weekend. XT6 finished 5th out of 9 which isn't too shabby for an old girl!

It is fun. I actually had almost as much fun getting there since it was a 65 mile trip through the twistie roads of the adirondacks to get there and back! I was pushing the XT6 through those turns like a madman! Averaged about 65mph which included some small towns where the speed dropped to like 40 or 30. I'm convinced if subaru had dropped the air-suspension on the XT6 and cut costs just a bit, it would have been a far better seller. The RS struts up front are good and the rear gas shocks on there now work wonders!

It was a concept car of the mid-'90s. Basically it was an SVX with a wagon-type back to it. Sort of like the offspring of an SVX and an old Volvo P1800 coupe. It was really a neat looking car, and was wondering what ever became of it. I believe it was shown at the Tokyo Auto Show, and then disappeared.

It was named after Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

I've looked all over the internet and can't find anything on it.

Sat in my aunts for the first time in years. She keeps it nice and covered up, only driven about 1x a week. Can't wait to get it from her :) Found a turbo unit that gives about 4-6psi boost, and doesn't need a fuel controler or intercooler, boosts it up 80-100hp which will make it quite the speedy car :)

Obviously you know how to search the web better than I do.

What do you think of the Amadeus? I always like the concept of a wagon/hatch sports car. Apparently so does BMW, with their new Z3 coupe. It certainly fits with Subaru's "sports/utility" theme.

    Bob
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
A lot of the nice luxury items you always are asking for bob, are actually included in the SVX. Over the weekend found out they have variable speed wipers based on the speed of the car, auto-off headlights, lighted ignition key-hole, etc. etc. I guess subaru just was way too far ahead of it's time with the XT6 and SVX and now they are afraid to offer those items again. Variable valving shocks were also included.

I love sport wagons. It's great to have the extra room and easily be able to throw things up on the roof racks.

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
I also wish the SVX had a hatch. It does however have a rear wiper and nice hydrolic hinges on the hood and trunk, and a rear folding seat :)

what was the SOA marketing slogan before they adopted "The beauty of all-wheel drive"?
I bet this one will be easy for the Crew here...

And did you know a guy named Dennis Mc-something worked on the whole "Beauty.. and Dundee campaigns that saved Subaru from the verge of extinction?

I think one of the earlier ad slogans was "What to Drive." A friend of mine clipped out a Popular Mechanics Subaru 1100 road test article from 1969 for me. The slogan at that time was "The what?...The Subaru." Clever.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Wagons should have 4 doors. A 2 door wagon is almost an oxymoron. The Z3 coupe is the UGLIEST car on the road today. It looks like a Nike high top sneaker. It scares little children and should be outlawed, and the designers should be put in jail for offending mother nature by putting those beasts on the road. Yuck!

Shoud I tell you how I really feel? ;-)

Those SVX wipers that varied with vehicle speed were brilliant. I remember going "wow" when I read about them at the time.

Hydraulic hinges are a nice feature, too. In fact, I've considered making a custom one for my Forester. They sell aftermarket ones for Miatas.

    So, juice—uglier than the Aztek?

I like the idea of sports car wagons. I liked the old Volvo P1800 hatchback and the MGB coupe (sometimes referred to as "shooting brakes" by folks in the UK), all of which follow that format.

BTW, I do agree, the BMW coupe—while certainly distinctive—also assaults my sense of design sensibilities. :)

Now if we could only agree on the RSX...

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
That other hideous menace does not qualify as a "car".

I drive by an MGB coupe every day to work, and every day I say to myself, "that thing would look great as a roadster".

The RSX looks like someone got a Civic Coupe and overinflated it a bit too much. But Steve's description in Future Models is better than mine.

  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
Sports Car International recently (last month?) had an article on 3 car companies that were saved by their advertising. Subaru, Audi and I forget the other.

I agree, the BMW coupe is ugly.
