Blame it all on wal mart. Tons of companies shipped entire factories overseaes. Or made the parts, sent the parts overseas, had it assembled overseas and the finished product shipped back.

I didn't realize a new host had been added to this discussion. LOL.
Actually, Walmart mandated to a lot of suppliers based in and producing in the US that they had to lower the prices to Walmart. And Walmart conveniently could use their office in China to set up a turnkey operation for them to produce the product there. Nevermind that cost the jobs in the US. Walmart was only interested in forcing suppliers to lower their price to Walmart which probably allowed Walmart to make more net profit on the product while advertising how "low" their prices are.
Rubbermaid (Newell) comes to mind as an example which I knew about from somewhere. It may have been a TV special about Walmart and its "operation."
Blame Walmart for loss of jobs. (I am not associated with Walmart in any function.)

I have said that before that people coming to this thread, judging by the title, expect things that are relatively positive about GM, its market share, and the new models coming out.
Just because someone had an unpleasant experience with a car dealer, doesn't mean they are trolling.
Agreed 100%. It's when the same old negative stuff gets rehashed again...and again....and again, and false stuff gets reported as fact (like GM considers sales to be movements of units to dealers, instead of sales from dealers).

Just because someone had an unpleasant experience with a car dealer, doesn't mean they are trolling.
Also, anecdotal evidence given by some 75 or 80 year old man who had a bad GM product back in the 80s or 90s isn't valid (you know who you are ... ) In fact, anything farther back than 2000 shouldn't even be allowed to be part of this discussion.
Hi all! I've had my 2011 Equinox LTZ AWD (4 cylinder) for about a month an a half and it's been to the dealer 4 times to date It's has been in the shop for 21-22 days cumulatively a no one will do a damn thing! I called my dealer the very first week I had the truck to say it was idling very high and grossly lagging in power. I also told them the vehicle smelled like gasoline. It was permeating through the vents into the cabin area. There were no error codes and they did not find anything. I called each time the gasoline smell occurred and promptly brought it in only to be told "they could not duplicate" the issue. I got GM's Customer Assistance and Executive Office Customer Assistance involved only to be told "Sorry, but there is nothing we can do since we can't find the source of the problem." I could not believe that out of 41 days I'd owned the vehicle that it was only in my possession for 17 of those days and I only put half the mileage on the truck. The dealer literally put at least 300 plus miles on the truck "test driving" it to get it to duplicate the issue. I feel my truck is unsafe and has a latent defect but neither GM nor the dealer will do anything! I love GM but this has totally soured my taste for them. What is the point of being a good customer if there is no "real" support when you need it. They were very happy to take my money but do not appreciate my patronage now that I have an issue with my truck. The dealer and GM in my opinion have left my family "holding the bag" and that isn't a nice thing to do. We don't currently have a legal case since the issue could not be duplicated. Here's the real kicker, two GM representatives told me that "the issue of smelling gasolne in some of there vehicles" does happen from time to time and concerns us. Well, they offered NO solution as to what the cause could be and in the end did nothing. Although, I do like the 2011 Equinox design (and have had plenty of GM cars in my lifetime that I've loved) I would never give them another hard earned dollar of mine. Shame, isn't it? I am hoping that if anyone else is having this issue that maybe they can offer some insight into the matter. On a side note, for my tens of thousand of dollars spent on this vehicle I was offered a $100 gift card for my troubles........truly insulting to say the least! Thanks for listening to my rant..
That is what happened when in 2006 the GMC dealer could not diagnose the MAP sensor failure on my Yukon. Had to invoke the Lemon Law process to get GM's Special Surgical Team to help the dealer. Looks to me here is another lingering problem with GM. Let me know when the dealer network are truly Class A. AFAIC, Kia blows them away into the distant weeds! :shades:
In fact, anything farther back than 2000 shouldn't even be allowed to be part of this discussion.
So, I shouldn't bring up the incident where my grandparents bought a used POS '52 Buick from a local Pontiac dealer? :P I don't know the details to the story, but evidently, Grandmom thought they had gotten screwed. In fact, roughly 42 years later, my uncle was afraid to buy a truck from them, because of what Grandmom might think! :surprise: He had bought a '94 GMC Sierra, and had a good experience, and somehow kept in contact with the salesman. Alas, by 1997, when he wanted another truck, that salesman had transferred to the dealer that my grandmother had issues with. So, he ended up buying a truck from the place that, ultimately, I bought my 2000 Intrepid from and my Dad bought his used '03 Regal from.
My experience in 2010: 79K miles, horn repaired, steering rack replaced, and transmission control module replaced by GM...free of charge. Vehicle was five years old. No extended warranty.
Are Kia's or Hyundai's reps offering to help after complaints on their forums? A rational question.

You may be onto something here. Think of all the farms where big machines plant and harvest wheat and corn. And they use imported oil, too. Congress could make it a requirement for farmers to get subsidies that they employ 100 workers per acre of cultivated land. I still have my Zenith console television from about the same time and it still delivers an awesome picture.
I guarantee your standards are not as high as mine. There's no way a TV from the early 80's delivers an awesome picture, even if it were in a vacuum of isolation for its entire lifetime and worked like brand new.

We have a Ford and BMW rep here too, but they aren't nearly as proactive as GM. There was a Subaru rep here for years too, but she got promoted to management. She was terrific.
I'm not getting rid of a perfectly good television. I can still see a clear picture. I don't need hi-def to see Patty Duke's moustache. I'll get rid of the set when the picture is awful and I see smoke pouring out the back.
We can discuss all day that those things shouldn't have happened, but the bottom-line fact is, GM stepped up to the plate when they didn't have to. One of my four coworkers has an '05 Honda van (same year as my Chevy van) that needed a completely new trans. Honda's 'goodwill' offer? He had to pay $1,800...at 70K miles.

Honda's offering to replace Odyssey transmissions out of warranty under 100,000K for $4000 or $5000 dollars. The owners are howling about such a know deficiency problem in the transmissions and Honda calling a slight subsidy in the Honda stores a gesture of helping them. Some are pricing replacing with a truly repaired transmission through independent shops set up in a way that shouldn't break down as soon.
Then there's the no help on VCM--it's performing as designed is the retort. Gotta love those who blindly follow the cult belief that foreign brands are better. Gotta look at the individual cars.
Had to laugh. We still have a 25" (I think) from the early '90's. It works fine, so why get rid of it? I hate 85% of what's on TV now anyway. I tell my kids that I watched more TV when there were three stations than I do now.
Our kids refer to the 25" as our "big screen" (compared to the mini TV's in our basement and my wife and I's bedroom).
My grandparents who lived in our same small hometown as I did then, always had a Zenith TV. It did seem to last a long time and theirs was on ALL the time. My Dad would always say that Zeniths were too expensive. We bought Admirals, which I don't remember with any great fondness.

He disappeared. I think toyota thought they would throw someone out there to pacify and to serve up PR at the time of the snapring misfit being the problem. But then it evolved that there was something more to the problem with transmissions not shifting right. These were the ones where the transmission lost its mind for seconds when people floored the car trying to accelerate such as a quick merge. They were telling everyone that they were performing as normal. But TMCUSA (Toyota Motor Corporation USA) disappeared.
The only downside to the company reps being in a forum to make contact with people whom they truly may be able to help is that the poster never comes back to say what was found or what was done that fixed the car problems after their contact with the rep or the dealer.

The change will allow production to increase. That should help, but it will be a long 4 weeks. I tried to find a Volt to test or see. I couldn't find any in the lower Michigan Canton/Plymouth area.
Seems I watched more TV back in the day when we had a handful of VHF and UHF stations than hundreds of cable channels with nothing on worth watching.
My parents had infinitely better luck with Zenith than RCA. RCA seemed like junk compared to Zenith. Sad that I can't even find a Zenith-branded television anymore. It just doesn't matter. There is no such thing anymore anyway. All televisions are the same junk manufactured in some third-world toilet with a different manufacturer's name stencilled on it.
I'm hoping economies of scale will soon bring down the price of the Volt to something affordable by the average Joe. As it is now, it's still an expensive toy for an eco-minded rich person. Of course all new technologies start off that way. Cars themselves were once playthings of the rich until the debut of the Model T.
I remember my grandmother buying a Zenith 19" tv for her bedroom around 1990. She went with Zenith, thinking it was still made in the US. Boy, was she pissed when I read the label to her! I forget now where it was made...Japan I think, but it might have been somewhere else over there. She still has it, but doesn't use it. It never was hooked up to the cable or Directv, and now that you need a converter box just to watch regular tv, she just let it sit.
My grandparents also had a 1972 Zenith console that was a good tv, but the 1987 or so that replaced it was junk. They also had a 19" portable that Granddad bought for their bedroom around Christmas 1981. It was still working when I threw it away around 2006. I tried to donate it, but they would only take tvs that were at least new enough where you could just plug the cables into the back, rather than get the adaptor that you had to screw into the places where the VHF part of the antenna went. I really hated throwing the thing away, but even though it still worked, nobody used it anymore, and it was just sitting around, taking up space.
Oh man! You should've contacted me! I'd have taken it off your hands! I have a soft spot for old Zenith consoles. I think Zenith may have last been manufactured in Mexico and then bought by LG.
Or we could of just put that 60 billion that went to GM and reduced our deficit by 60 BILLION and paid less interest charges spending the money we don't have bailing out companies like GM.

Just the opposite. When you're relying on resources that are relatively rare, you have the opposite effect. And I read to make things worse, most of the world has discontinued mining for these elements and rely on China to produce them.
If you think GM does not make enough profit from the fleet sales, then Toyota has an even worse problem than people realized: they only make 1/10th of the profit comparing to GM when Toyota's fleet sales is much less than GM. Toyota cannot even make money from retail sales!
The way you make it sound, it's Toyota we should have been bailing out with 60 BILLION DOLLARS , and not GM. Why'd we bail out GM instead of Toyota again?
'18 Porsche Macan Turbo, '16 Audi TTS, Wife's '19 VW Tiguan SEL 4-Motion
Of course I did. A profit is a profit; Toyota has a lot of side business too. If you can profit from it, why not.
You do realize that GM's side businesses got bailed out too. The bail out going to GM goes from 60 billion to maybe 600 billion depending on how you look at it.
Ally Financial = GMAC = Bailed out by gov't tax payer monies.
Great side business GM!

Well let's see. If we compare reliability ratings of 4 year old cars according to JD power, your Audi looks something like:
Overall Dependability: 3 out of 5
Powertrain Dependability: 3 out of 5
Body and Interior Dependability: 3.5 out of 5
overall not bad but let's compare it to a same year lowly GM model
say like the Impala:
Overall Dep: 4.5 out of 5
Powertrain Dep.: 4 out of 5
Body & Interior Dep: 4.5 out of 5
Many GM models match or beat the ratings of the foreign brands.

Just the opposite. When you're relying on resources that are relatively rare, you have the opposite effect. And I read to make things worse, most of the world has discontinued mining for these elements and rely on China to produce them.

The way you make it sound, it's Toyota we should have been bailing out with 60 BILLION DOLLARS , and not GM. Why'd we bail out GM instead of Toyota again?
You do realize that GM's side businesses got bailed out too. The bail out going to GM goes from 60 billion to maybe 600 billion depending on how you look at it.
Ally Financial = GMAC = Bailed out by gov't tax payer monies.
Great side business GM!
