Hi all, thanks for the responses. I just priced mine out on kbb.com and i got 19,170 (has the touring package, spoiler and premium wheels). Thats how I figured 19K, and this is a private sell. I would definately take 16K for it as a trade in. The only reason I would trade my car in for a 99+ vehicle is to acquire the updates Nissan has made (move from noisey vaccuum BPT and EGR assembly to quiet electronic assembly, updates in stereo, rear sunshade on '00-01, etc.), but I dont know if this would be worth the 10-12K difference. I also looked at the TL type S, and that comes out to a similar price as the I30 with touring and some of the extra things on there...but I dont think I want two TL's! Hmmmm...still thinking about it...
TGIF888 - How does the dash kit look? Is it an exact match with the existing piece around the gear shift? Can you tell who the manufacturer of the kit was?
Jaki30 - Which kit did you purchase? I purchased the one for the 2000 I30 without NAV from ebay. I am not satisfied with the match. It only matches in color, not in wood grain. The ebay purchase looks more like real wood than the existing pieces. Needless to say, I haven't installed it yet.
Neither of the 2 I30 models seem to offer even front mud flaps as standard equipment. Has anyone purchased dealer-installed mud flaps? Do they look like the ones on the Maxima? Another oddity is that Infiniti does not offer chrome exhaust tip as a dealer-installed option.
Thanks. I would like that info. Are you happy with the installation (appearance, ect.)? Is there a glare from the pieces on the dash? Would you be able to post a picture?
Yes. The installation is good, the craftmanship is very professional. Well, I didn't see any glare from teh pieces yet. let me see can I get a digital camera and post the picture.
It is kit WD 311A. The company is from Florida. I just laid out some pieces against the ones in the car. The color looks like it matches fine. The kit may have a more realistic grain than that which came with the car. I laid out the console, radio and a/c control panels. Since they do not butt up against any exisiting pieces, it is hard to tell if there is a difference. I got the kit for a minimal bid andI think it will look fine. I do not intend to install all the pieces. I can't see putting the wood grain on the rear of the console, the glass case, around the door pulls or the air vents. I hope to install it this week if it gets a little warmer here in Ct. canadiancl: I got the splash guards. They are fiberglass and molded to fit the car. Personally, I think they are worth the money since they are also the color of the car.
Mud Flaps are also "standard" if you get a heated seat, traction control car. You can't order heat and trac without getting mudguards and a CD changer.
Redskin 024 is correct. The CD changer and splash guards are listed as options on my window sticker. They are "PIO" (port installed options) which means they were installed upon arrival in the US. That said, it was impossible to find a car with just the heated seats and splash guards that I wanted. Every dealer in the Northeast had all the options on the cars. It looked like the only option I had was to go out to the rest of the country to find exactly what I wanted (actually I did and found the car in the midwest). Couldn't save enough money to make it worthwhile to do it. In retrospect, the Acura TL has traction control standard, so to make the comparison, I dropped the issue. At these prices, Traction and the CD weren't going to stop me from buying. I think Infiniti should just make it all standard and just have the nav as the only option on the cars.
They are sold as the complete set, front and back. They do look good and work pretty well. I had them on our 98 I30 and wanted them again. Invoice is about $90. Can't say what I paid because we negotiated the bottom line. I think list was about $130. I don't think you can get them if you buy a T with the sports package.
Jaki30: The install will be fairly simple. I installed a friend's kit for a Toyota Tundra back during the winter. It is important to heat the pieces. Just follow the instructions that were included in the kit. When using the primer sticks, remember to only touch the places where the pieces cover because it can discolor the dash; and also remember that the sticks evaporate rather quickly. It is probably best to clean each place before putting the first one in place. I tried cleaning one spot at a time and placing the piece on before going to the next spot to clean and the primer definitely dries up when trying it this way.
Turns out the kit I bought is from an Arizona company (Exotic Wood Dashes). Thanks for the advice. I may try to install it tomorrow. I am thinking about parking the car in the sun to help warm up everything. The primer you referred to, is that the adhesive promoter? I am still debating whether I need to use that stuff, especially if it discolors the dash. The instructions I got said to heat the pieces after installation to "set" them.
Yes mud guards are listed as an option on the sticker for a 2001 I30. However in the northeast every single 2001 I30 ordered with Heated Seats and traction control comes with the 6-disc CD and mud guards. It does not matter if the dealer wanted them or not. Trust me Infiniti will not let us order a heat and trac I30 without throwing in mudguards and a CD.
I am picking up my car Saturday. It is a "t" with side sills. The dealer told me that I could have the rear guards but the front ones would not fit with the sills. Not sure if he knows what he's talking about or not though.
It is even worse than that. You can't get heated seats around here without getting the traction control. Even though the brochure states that heated seats are required if you order traction control and not vice versa, like you said, you can't get one around New England w/o everything. Since the CD and muds are installed PIO, I tend to believe Infiniti has found a money maker and figured out the people would buy the car w/ those options if they wre getting every thing else.
cpa4u: He is probably correct. I am positive there was some issue with the splash/mud guards if the sport pkg was installed. At least you can get the rears installed. They do work! Good luck.
Actually... If you have the T model with side sills, the Mud Guards _will not_ fit behind the front wheels. You will only be able to install them behind the rear wheels.
(This information is courtesy of two different dealers in Washington, one of which I offered to pay extra if they could "figure something out" for the front wheels.)
Why wouldn't you want the traction control in New England? I live in Denver and that was one option that I would not have gone without. It really helps on snow and ice.
I have a 93 Ford Crown vic w/ traction control and find it doesn't help all that much. Fortunately, the I30 has an on/off switch which the Ford does not. People tend to overdrive their vehicles with all the hi-tech that is installed. I have found there is no substitute for common sense and patience. If it is that bad out, then maybe I shouldn't be out. As a volunteer EMT in my town, I am very skeptical of the hi tech. Many calls I go on in the winter involve SUVs or you hear statements like "my car has ABS, I don't know what happened." (The estimated 65 mph on the snow covered parkway played no part in the accident...yeah...right.) Maybe I am getting cynical as I age.
Yes. The primer that I referred to is also called the adhesive promoter. If you haven't used any liquids such as Armor All on the dash then you might want to skip using the promoter altogether. I ran out after installing just a few pieces on the Tundra and it all still seems to be fine. You might also want to crank the car and run the heater. It will make the pieces very flexible.
I've been driving in bad weather my whole life - I understand how to do it. I'm not saying you should overestimate your car's abilities (I'm the one with 4WD/AWD over in the slow lane going 25 mph on the highway when it's bad, hoping none of the idiots will hit me). Sometimes you need to get home from work or dinner. Traction control in the I30 does a very good job of helping you find traction on snow/ice by keeping the wheels from spinning. It's not a cure-all, and I never said it was. It just helps when you need it.
djrunner E-mailed the manufacturer. Their service dept. says the promoter is optional. The tape alone should work fine. Unfortunately, I took today off from work to do this and the temp is in the upper 50s' and the sky is filled with clouds. I will wait until it gets warmer.
mmcbride1: My very next car project is replacing the rear brake pads on the Ford. Their traction control works by applying the brakes to the spinning wheel. It looks like I may have cooked them when I was stuck this past winter while trying to rock the car out of deep snow. Since our 98 I30 didn't have the traction control, I really didn't think it was necessary on the new one. Time will tell.
Hi. I have an opportunity to buy Infiniti I30 '96 with 50,000 for about $9000. It doesn't have a clean title, but I saw it hit and it's only on the front right, didn't even hit the frame. I just need some advice if I should go for it or wait for something better. I appreciate your input, thank you very much.
i am looking to buy a 96 i30. have found one w/71,000 miles. one owner in excellent condition.service records look very good.dealer is asking 13,900. looking for info from 96 owners on maintenance ,repairs, costs, likes dislikes, anything to be aware of.any advice, comments, suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.
Did you get your car yet? Oh, I just have the dealer installed the mug guards yesterday. It looks great. I also have the dealer clean the sticky stuff that around the sunroof's rubber outline.
Put my baby daughter in the car couple days ago, and she keep pointing the Nav. screen and say, "TV,TV".
I'll pick the car up tomorrow at noon. SHould I get the dealer to remove the sticky stuff around sunroof before leaving? Where is it exactly?
I'm really mad though.....just watched the weather and it is suppose to rain here the next 2-3 days. I was hoping it would be pretty so I could enjoy a shiney new car!!
Most I30's come with splash guards, but every once in a while we get one to our dealership with htd seats, traction and no splash guards. We get very few here in the northwest with the cd changer. As far as splashguards on a T model with sport package. You can't do it on the front wheels.
It was not untill about 1/3 of the way into the year that they started with the mud guard and CD player thing. It drives us crazy. I've seen low VIN cars without it but, if you walked into an Infiniti dealer right now and ordered a heated, trac car it would come with a CD and mudguards.
Early prodution cars come all sorts of ways, we had a T model with just guards and heat, and a no sunroof car with heat, so you never know.
First time I have attempted to engage in a Chat format. My question is: Can I use Regular gas in my new infinity I30. It is suggested to use only High Test. If I do use regular gas and there is no knock, will there be any damage to the engine? Thank you for your response
will result in slightly decreased performance. But it wouldn't damage the engine, although I think others have commented that it may result in slightly shorter engine life in the long run.
The engine computers will automatically adjust the timing to burn any gas, however you will not get the rated gas milage on regular. If you want to save a couple bucks I would suggest running the mid-grade.
There have been several posts inquiring about a 1996 I30. I have a '96 I 30 that I bought new. It has been a great car. No mechanical problems other than the radio went dead from some burnt out part, but I had that fixed and it works fine. $13,900 for one with $75,000 miles is way too much money for that car.
The car came with a six year or 70,000 mile warranty on the power train. For me this mean an expiration in April 2002. I will sell the car before then. My car has only 52,000 miles and its entire service record is available at any Infiniti dealership because every scheduled maintenance has been done at an Infiniti dealership.
I have some extras on my car. In 1996 leather was not standard. I bought the leather package which included the power moonroof. Even auto transmission was not standard, so I added that as the car came standard as a shift then. I also got a dealer installed CD changer in the trunk and the gold package that makes the car look much nicer. The rear view mirror has the automated dimming feature too.
One feature I added myself and I am willing to leave the equipment installed is a hands free cellular phone system with a cradle for the phone. Currently, it will work with any of the major Nokia phones and there is a tri-mode dual band antenna on the car so it will work with TDMA, GSM or analog. Previously I had a Sprint PCS phone there, but you will need to change the cradle and antenna to use the Sprint phone and maybe the speakers.
For the person that is considering paying $13,900 for a '98 with over 70,000 miles - I will sell you my car right now for that price - which car sounds better. As a practical matter I live in Southern California, so hopefully you do to or otherwise this is all moot. My email is belairgold@prodigy.net.
I just picked up my I30t today and want to get the windows tinted shortly. I was looking at the rear window and the inside "shelf" where the sunvisor unit is. THere is very little room to reach in to the bottom part of the rear window due to the sunvisor housing. Has anyone had their rear window tinted? Did the person tinting it have to remove the rear shelf? That is about the only way that I see to tint the bottom part. I just hate to start removing pieces and then putting them back. That causes rattles sometimes.
I had the windows of my I30t tinted. The dealer installed the trunk spoiler at the same time, and in the process they removed that brake-light that is on the rear deck so they did have to do something back there. The dealership had a separate window-tint place do the tint-job, so to be honest with you I don't know how the tasks were orchestrated.
One thing about the tint: When I went back to pick up the car after the tint-job and spoiler install, the "top" of the rear window, by the upper "beveled" section, looked bubbly in one area. I pointed this out and the dealer told me that it was not possible to smoothly tint the beveled area of the rear window. Not satisfied, I took the car to another local area shop and asked them if it was true. I received some "raised eyebrows" when I told them what my dealer had told me about not being able to do a good job on the rear window.
Anyway, to make a long story short I returned to my dealer and, after making a not-so-veiled reference to the fact that I considered this part of my "ownership experience" and had not yet mailed my "how did the sale go" questionnaire back to Infiniti, the rear window was re-tinted according to my expectations.
....but I'm here to announce the new Infiniti I30 Owners club now available on Edmunds.com Owner's Club board. Please stop by and introduce yourself in Meet the Members and let me know how I can help build your club.
I have linked this discussion into that folder, but it will always reside here in Sedans.
Can anyone say if the $1000 factory-to-dealer incentive will continue (or even be expanded) next month?
Also, where is the west coast port of entry for Infiniti? Is it Seattle or somewhere like Los Angeles?
Last, and not least, at what point does a dealer start having to pay interest on the loan for a car on the lot? Does it start on delivery to the dealer, or as soon as it is allocated from the port, or somewhere else?

Will this compete with the C series MB and the BMW 3 series...
Is Infiniti using CD rom instead of DVD on navagation system...they should use DVD?

I believe the port of entry in west coast is Long Beach, CA.
