the XG 30 is an XG 25, just has a 2.5 litre instead. Sort of a fun site I thought.
the Sonata that you saw.. is the NEW EF SONATA
(code named EF-B) is has been just released.. actually a couple months back...it has almost everything as the XG(interior trim etc)..it'll hit our shores in about a year or two ( i think that's why the sonatas here in canada are selling for 0% interest finacing)
yes.. the korean version of the XG ... called the "graduer" is offered in three versions..
2.0 I-4, 2.5 I-4(same as sonata), 3.0 V6 sigma
the L series or the Q series.. it's just a code for the type of options you have on the car.. nothing special..
oh.. and as for the Centennial.. it's called the EQQUS.. in korea.. yes.. there are two versions offered.. mini limo and regular sedan...
even the regular sedan in korea is treated like a limo... owners being driven around.. ^_^
engines offered in that model.. are 3.0(same as XG300)(203HP), 3.5(220HP), and 4.5(260 HP)
pat HOST ---./.... oh.. okie.. ^_^ thanks
Lastly, has anyone seen an XG300 at any dealership with 16 inch wheels. An earlier post said that they would all be built this way starting on Feb 1.
but as i see it... towing is not recommended in my opinion.. it doesn't have the capacity to tow anything..
as for the 16" wheels.. i bet they'll be offered in the next model year..b/c they have to sell the ones that already have the 15" on..
i'll get back to you after i check the owners manual...
1.keep the tongue load 10% of the total trailer load.
2.tongue load/total trailer weight x 100= 10% max)total trailer weight
3.tongue loads can be increased or decreased by re-distributing the load in the trailer.
this can be verified by checking the total weight of the loaded trailer and then checking the load on the tongue.
NOTE:
1. never load the trailer with more weight in the back than in the front. about 60% of the trailer load should be in the front half on the trailer and the remaining 40% in the rear
2.the total gross vehicle weight with the trailer must not exceed the gross vehicle weight rating shown on the vehicle id plate
3.the front or rear axle weight must not exceed the gross axle weight rating shown on the vehicle id plate.
The following specifications are recommended when towing a trailer. The loaded trailer weight cannot safely exceed the values in the chart.
max. Towable weight
Trailer Tongue
with brake 2000 lb. 200 lb.
without brake 1000 lb. 100 lb.
NOTE: when towing check transaxle fluid more frequently.
just cruisin by...thanks for the info and pics on the EF. Saw on the hyundai korean site what appeared to be the cv transmission that Porsche/Audi developed for the new A2.8!!! (I dont read korean so Im guessing all this from a few pictures). Allegedly the audi transmission will also have a tiptronic type setup, six speeds and no torque converter therby being a real manual (witout the clutch pedal).. Can you confirm?? Also do you know the horsepower/torque ratings that will be offered with this model. Thanks much
novotny_jack
Also I am told to take advantage of the generousity of the warranty you must keep good records and have all work done in their house...
http://www.hmc.co.kr/kor/cybermall/image/product/sonata/2001per07.gif
the new EF sonata.. in korea is offered with the same old engines... 1.8, 2.0, 2.5 ... hp figures aren't listed..
as for the porsche/audi tranny... i'd have to say yes.. although the site doesn't state that... it's very very close/same
you must take into fact that hyundai does use porsche consulting services..(products like the tiburon etc...)
American parts.Mostly from GM,ouch.A/C compressor,
water pump,etc.Compare warrantees,I got rid of a
Toyota Camry.for anXG300.Iv'e had 4 Toyotas,very
good cars, but the Avalon & Camry are made in America, with mostly American parts. Why doesn't
Toyota offer a longer warranty?
Toyota does offer a longer warranty, you can find it at Lexus! They will be happy to sell you an ES300, essentially a "Camry". Hyundai & Kia's warranties are marketing strategies designed to help overcome American resistance to the previous terrible build quality which we all remember from the 1980s. I don't believe Hyundai offers this warranty in Europe. Do they in Korea or Australia?
Hey, but you know what I think when I think Korean manufacturing? I think militant labor unions, many of which are socialist or communist dominated. They are some of the most aggressive in the world. Look at what they are doing to undermine selling Daewoo to a non-Korean buyer. But did this anti-capitalist labor militancy stop me from buying my loaded '00 Sonata GLS 5-speed w/Pkg 13? No.
----- i don't know about australia.. but in korea.. 80% of the cars sold are "korean" cars.
it's the only choice for people that can't afford
imported cars such as GM/BMW/ETC.ETC...
so hyundai doesn't have to offer an extensive warranty..
Hey, but you know what I think when I think Korean manufacturing? I think militant labor unions, many of which are socialist or communist dominated.
.. hold up.. where are you getting this "idea" from? communist? socialist? i hope you aren't confusing north korea with south korea.. ^_^
hmmm... be there in the flesh.. to get the real deal on the situation.. before you jump to conclusions based on media sources please.
as for the mystery of the XG... they're isn't any..it's just a sonata made bigger with most of the sonata compontents installed.
struts front and rear = same as sonata
climate control = same as upper model sonata
transmission= sonata tranny with extra 5th gear
structually it's a sonata with a bigger floor pan... ^_^
where am i getting all this? a "dealer" only interactive CD ROM...
CHEERS~!
Anyway, thanks again for your time in answering my message.
Regarding American Camrys, while they maintain a lower frequency of repair than most other vehicles American or foreign, it is obvious that Toyota quality has slipped compared to Honda, the two manufactures who are generally regarded by nearly every automotive magazine as the top two in terms of quality. Among other problems, many Camry's and Avalon's of late have suffered from strut problems and problems with window seals. You need no more than to read the various posts here on Edmunds to see what parts are problematic. While these posts are far from scientific, Hyundai products in general seem to be held in higher esteem by those posting to these forums than do Toyota products. Frankly, this is the only reason that I would even consider a Hyundai product. It is also somewhat telling when some of the models have more posts about problems and maintenance than about other aspects of the vehicle.
oh, go ahead, post it & tell us where ...
remember - there is ALWAYS something worse than what you have.
pretty much impossible for me to post this cd anywhere.. due to the amount of info etc...
cheers~!
For many decades S. Korean industrial labor unions have been infamous for their militancy. Violent strikes, sit downs, confrontations with management, etc. All one needs to do is read things like The Economist, Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Forbes, Fortune, NY Times, etc. Look at what the labor unions are doing in regard to aggressively fighting needed layoffs at bankrupt Daewoo! (S. Korean students also good at rioting & disrupting. Maybe this should be an Olympic Sport for labor unions and student protesters???)
But note, I don't hold this against the company that makes the products. I bought and love my '00 Sonata GLS w/Pkg 13. Have almost 16,000 troublefree miles!!!
I had a prior posting regarding test driving an XG300L several weeks ago. We still find the car appealing and will probably make this model our next purchase when the time comes. I spoke with a dealer in Marion, Illinois this morning and they are offering 16 inch wheels and tires to customers for an additional $600. There are several styles of wheels from which to choose. However, they are also marking up the vehicle $1,500 due to demand. They had no I models on their lot. Just one XG300. I live in central Illinois and thus far, there are no dealer markups. The dealer said in April, 16 inch wheels and tires will become an option.
Does anyone think that on the 02 models there will be an optional larger engine? I recognize this will all be at a higher price. Just wondering what you all have been hearing.
I also heard that Hyundai is looking to build a manufacturing plant here in the states. If this happens, the quality will go down like it did with Toyota and Nissan. I hope that Hyundai NEVER opens a car manufacturing plant here in the USA.
Made in Canada= Toyota corolla
Solar and one more..
I forget
Honda civic
odyssey
hyundaima......sorry.. i can't say.... let's just say i got it on the web...
giowa.....The Economist, Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Forbes, Fortune, NY Times? <----- all media hyped ...plus..
even translated work can me misinterpreted...
ah... and remember.. they're only showing you highlights.. which doesn't portray the situation in whole.
call it what you want.. olympics and what not..but from a korean's perspective.. it's really no "big" deal... = )
to all L owner's out there.. i emailed a dealership about getting my hands on a leather/wooden steering wheel... and guess what?
the thing costs over 500 bucks? can you believe that? (the reason i want wooden/leather steering wheel is because the "canadian" models aren't offered the option.. and the cd changer)
Thanks for all your replies. Any insight to the sale dates for EF here?
Thanks
Jack
as hyundai korea will be introducing a 200hp tiburon "like" sibling in korea this summer.
i doubt the new sonata will have the cvt option.. for some reason we get the watered down version of everything offered in korea.. e.g. sonata with
glass embedded anntenna with navigation system etc...
i guess it's just a cost cutting measure to sell more at a cheaper price.
i've been looking into the mitsubishi diamante/magna... and from the appearance of things (mid section)... it's the same as the XG
i don't know about the structural part.. but it looks like hyundai bought some design work from mitsubishi..(alot happens between the two companies)

One parting shot, car salesmen are useless to anyone but idiots. They seldom know as much about the car as informed buyers and if you are ready to spend thousands of dollars without learning all that you can about a perspective automobile then you deserve to be ripped off. The haggling, using a salesman as no less than a messenger between the perspective buyer and the sales manager is sheer lunacy. These people are little more than glorified greeters, one step above the "would you like a basket" type at WalMart. Offers and counter offers not withstanding, the whole process in this place made me want to take a bath.
However, XG's platform is not identical. Actually, XG shares the platform with Sonata...
Sonata is the successor to Galant.
When I posted a message just like yours, a Hyundai designer denied XG is copy of Diamante and advised me Hyundai developed it for itself.
Anyway, I think XG is a good choice and has good value compare to it's price range at least in KOREA...
http://www.fitzgeraldautomalls.com
XG300L (the only one he has) Titanium w/pkg. 5 and mats + guards
MSRP:$25574
Invoice:$23524
Red Tag:$24024 (His price includes free loaner, coupons, etc. i.e., the Fitgerald Advantage)
Internet:$23685 (this is the lowest at which he sells aimed at long distance customers)
I have never asked them but they seem to aim for the Edmunds TMV pretty consistently, within a few dollars either way, at least on the internet price. Some haggling is allowed, of course. Just depends on how popular the car is and what is the supply.
Good Luck in your search.

I too backed off when I was counter offered too far above tmv on an xg (somehow there seem to be alot of acronyms creeping into my life...hmmm).....
Don't blink. That is what they want you to do. The invoice is dead on in here . I know because I nailed it with another manufacturer and if you went back and did it on a sonata you would get a diff. response. It is definatly a seductive automobile. But is overpriced and the residual is an issue. Also at issue is the fact that they make you document your scheduled service. If hyundai has put the past behind them , why not stand behind the warranty instead of trying to get out of it ??This vehicle is also only 400 lbs. lighter than a chev. blazer. Good Gas mileage is also something one should expect from this package. I think it is lacking...
Don't get me wrong.. I think Hyundai is on the right track. I allways look for an unappreciated entity. But to give a warranty with one hand and try to get out of it with the other, proves they still have some stinkin in their thinkin...at least my 14 cents worth...
Hyundai's own brochure lists XG300 weight at 3,604 pounds. That would make it more than 600 pound difference with a Blazer.
And I don't know what you are complaining about concerning fuel economy. EPA lists XG300 at 19 city and 27 highway. That ain't bad for a 3.0L V-6 car with automatic transmission. If like Sonata, it would run on 87 octane. Unlike some cars requiring premium (e.g, Maxima).
2. EPA has worked hard to make their estimates more accurate. City est. is always hard to peg down between two different drivers in two completely different urban settings (say NY City vs. Omaha, NE); however, highway ratings have been accurate for me. My current fully loaded '00 Sonata GLS w/Pkg 13 & 5-speed manual stickered at 21/28 mpg. I do get anywhere from about 26-30 mpg on highway. The EPA highway rating has been quite accurate on both my '00 Lincoln LS8 Sport and my '96 Impala SS. Was also accurate on my former '97 Camaro V-6 5-speed manual Sport. EPA underestimated the highway mileage for my '96 Infiniti G20t auto and G20 manual by about 4 mpg.
ARE YOU SERIOUS when you compare this to a LEXUS...? (comparing tuna to lobster?) Sorry this is near luxury on its best day...
MOMMY-Time will tell regarding your warranty. But I have read here and on other sites about the need to document maintanace with hyundai...No other manufacturer ever asked me for proof. Also the sales manager admitted I should keep documentation if I bought one.
I have enough to worry about thank you Hyundai....When I get insurance I want to know they are going to pay off and not nit pick...I don't know this in this case...
But you all enjoy your new toys.. I wish you the best. I only gamble when the odds are 50-50 or better...
Plastic grill and cheap feel to some interior components in addition to some not so smooth shifting of the auto trans told on them for me...
But I think they are making serious inroads on their in house issues.. I also drove a Santa Fe...These are selling well..But they have too much body roll among other things. Even my 18 y.o. said PASS!
The better apples-to-apples weight (and EPA mileage) comparison is with ES300, I30, & 3.2TL. XG300 has similar engine/tranny, options, size, etc. If you want to compare things on price or market perception/psychology and then compare those similarly priced cars on weight, that is hardly fair to the higher optioned car that will weigh more.
Using price alone would be ludicrous. That would lead to comparing your Blazer to a loaded Mazda Miata. Both might have a $25K sticker price but they are wildly different and thus not appropriate to compare in regard to weight.
I really don't care if the market (i.e., the average uniformed Joe or Jane) currently views a loaded XG300 similar to a base Camry. The XG300 is not designed to compete directly with that vehicle. A loaded Sonata GLS is. The XG300 is designed to take Hyundai into the near-luxury realm where ES300 & I30 are.
But for the sake of weight comparions and EPA estimates, feel free to compare XG300 to FULLY LOADED V6 automatic Camry, Accord, and Maxima. These will have MSRP's higher than XG300 and their weights will be close to their corporate kissin' cousins (ES300, 3.2 TL, and I30), to which they are closely related except for some options, price, warranty, and sheetmetal. (Why anyone buys an I30 over a loaded Maxima GLS is beyond me, so maybe you are right. Foolish buyers will pay thousands more for essentially the same car with a different name.)
