My e-brochure indicates that a "Battery saver feature--deactivates personal lights after 30 minutes with lights on" is standard on all trim levels.

Do you know what ran the battery down?

We want to get an extended service contract (extending to 7yr/100,000, $0 deductible). We are planning on keeping vehicle for about 10 years. Realize that this is insurance and would probably do better investing the money and Toyota's reliability is pretty good - BUT, there are lots of gadgets on this thing! (XLE AWD) Since the price of the warranty the dealer who sold us the Sienna gave us was a joke ($1400 for 7/100K $0 ded), can we buy the ext warr from another dealer? Any advice/recommendations are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jill

After more than 3 months of going back and forth with a dozen dealers I reached an agreement on an XLE FWD with package #12 through a dealer in Brenham TX (1 hour drive one way from my home). Here are the details: XLE FWD, package #12, artic frost pearl paint, permavin glass etching. Dealer offered $600.00 over invoice (which included T.D.A., M.A.F., 2% holdback and 1% finance reserve; all of which the dealer would not budge on after commenting that the competition was offering between $1000.00 - $1500.00 over invoice with the same add-ons). MSRP 33129.00 - Invoice 29793.75 = 3335.25 - 600 = 2735.25 below MSRP plus TTL. This is the best deal I could find in my area. The salesman provided me with the VIN # and I will pick it up in 3 days on my next day off. I'll post my opinion of the final transaction later. I closing my wish for the future is that I never again select a vehicle in such demand again. This experience has expended way too much of my time.
    Regards.

    Yes. See my posts #2909, 2949, 2967, and 3001.

The best deals posted recently here for this particular warranty have been in the $850-950 range. Work hard to buy at or near the low end of that range - or even slightly less.

I bought this warranty for $950 in a package deal with pre-paid maintenance, also at a discount. If you try that approach (i.e., purchase the warranty in a package deal), assume the dealer's cost for the manufacturer's pre-paid maintenance is 50% of the suggested retail price. Toyota lists the retail costs of its warranties and pre-paid maintenance plans on the Financial Services page at www.toyota.com.

    Well I did it.

XLE AWD GK(#17) and CF (mats and sill protector) in Salsa Red Perl is in front of my house!!!

This is where I got it:
    Vic Toyota
    1607 N Belt
    St Joseph, MO 64506

    MSRP: $35071
    Dealer fees: $90
    OTD: $35161
    Discount: $2319
NET: $32842 The price was VERY good in this region for an AWD but not the best. BUT it was on the ground and in the exact color I wanted.

Just for comparison the dealers in St. Louis wanted that for XLE FR(#12)+CF without AWD.

    Warranty: $970 for 84/100, $0 deductable.

How far: I had to drive 291 miles one way.

You can e-mail me (in my profile) for the contacts. Make sure you put Sienna Info as your subject header. I HIGHLY recommend this dealer even if you have to travel. It may not be the best price (I had an offer for $2500 off) but they were totally up front and the finance guy was great. They worked really hard to get me EXACTLY what I asked for and delivered EXACTLY what they promised.

Congratulations. That is an excellent deal for TX. I would be interested in knowing your final drive out price. Also, how much did they charge for the permavin etching?

What are people's experiences/recommendations with pre-paid maintenance plans? Price to pay? Bad or good idea? The Toyota site doesn't give prices for the Premium plan. My dealer will also provide "free maintenance" for 2 years/24,000 miles (my wife averages 10,000 miles/year) so not sure how that will interface; they likely want 5,000 mile intervals at best, and we chance oil at 3,000. I have never purchased such a plan before; not sure they were available in 1996, when I last bought a new car. thanks much.

If you got an XLE AWD Ltd w/ package #6 (HO) for $2300 off msrp...then you got a good deal.

Mid-Atlantic Region was only allocated 4% in that style. I'm not sure what Midwest region got for December. Almost all the dealers in my region refused to budge much from MSRP except for two. Of the two, one didn't have the color I wanted but offered $2000 off, but didn't even have any cars in stock or in transit....so effectively, vaporware as far as I'm concerned. The other one had one in transit. I got it for $1300 off MSRP and they covered freight. So you actually got a better deal! :) Enjoy your new ride...I certainly am :)

Yes it does, under pre-paid maintenance on the Financial Services page at www.toyota.com.

I purchased the Premium 4yr/55K plan for $770; Toyota's suggested retail price is $995 and I estimate that I will save more than $100 over the life of the plan, based on what my dealer currently charges for service at each maintenance interval.

Estimate dealer cost for any of the pre-paid maintenance plans at 50% of Toyota's suggested retail price, and negotiate from there.

My dealer also offers a pre-paid, six oil and filter change plan for $100 ($16.67 per change). I intend to use that plan for oil changes between (but not including) the normal service intervals.

    Fbattle,
My drive out price has been quoted as $32526.00. I don't pick it up until 1/12/04 and will post a message if there are any last minute changes. The invoice price for the permavin is $52.00. Please let me know if you need any other information.

At least thats how it behaves. We really like my wifes OB but grew tired of Subaru dragging its feet on a 7-passenger. The Sienna XLE AWD has similar dynamics to our Subaru Outback Ltd.

I think the only things we are going to have added are cargo net, mud flaps, and perhaps an auto-dim mirror.

Does anyone know if Toyota (or aftermarket) makes a plastic bin for the fold down area that does not affect the folding of the seats. Honda makes one for their minivan. Its really nice because if something spills (like milk) its contained by the plastic.
  • kmeadkmead Member Posts: 232
    Siennabuyer

Due to the way the rear seats fold on the Sienna, it is not possible to have a plastic liner that will protect the floor from liquids and allow for the folding.

If you look carefully there are two loops in the floor that the seats lock into when folded. It is this way for a safety reason so the seats do not flip up in an accident. Due to the those tabs and the hinge system a permanent always there tray is not possible.

There are several trays that can be had, Weathertech and another who's name escapes me at the moment. These need to be lifted out when folding the seats.

Another approach, the one I have taken as have several others is to use Rubbermaid Roughneck Totes. Both the 10 gallon and the 18 gallon ones will fit three across. By taking out one and nesting it into the one of the others you can fold the 1/3 section down or take the two out and nest them in the one left and you can fold the 2/3 section. We chose 10 gallon ones as you end up with a surface level with the hatch opening when you put the lids on. We have extra 18 gallon containers around we can use if we want to. Total investment: about 10 bucks.

This is a belated post about the deal I got on my Sienna. I've decided not to post the name of the Dealer who made me this deal since they suggested that I shouldn't, but at least it might give some of you a reference point for price shopping. I may contact them again and make sure they don't want the free advertising. This purchase was in Maryland on December 27, 2003.

Sienna LE with package #8(BW) and wireless headphones.
Invoice price quoted below are not inflated prices which contain the MAF, TDA, ETC fees that are automatically charged to dealer:
Base invoice for Sienna LE: $21,833
    Invoice for Package #7(BW): $2,364
    Invoice for Wireless Headphones: $64
    Destination Charge: $540
    Total Invoice: $24,801
    Total MSRP: $27,777

My deal was Total invoice(including destination charge) minus dealer holdback of $485 plus $100 dealer profit.

So my sale price was $24,416 which is $385 below invoice (or $1,353 below an invoice which includes the MAF, TDA, ETC fees) and $3361 blow MSRP.

My out the door price was the $24,416 plus a $100 processing fee, and $186 for the registration etc. and the lien fee (all of these are standard in Maryland. No other fees whatsoever were charged.

    Final price with tax: $25,929

I think I may have gotten one of the best deals on a Sienna in the country. :D

If anyone wants to here my tale, I'll share it...but it basically boils down to research, determination, timing, luck, and contacting the managers of as many dealers as I could.
  • mercier1mercier1 Member Posts: 14
What a deal! If I am reading this correctly, the dealer profit was the 2% holdback of approximately $555.00 less 385.00 (your discount off the invoice price) plus the $100.00 you mentioned as dealer profit for a total dealer profit on the deal of $270.00. Does this sound about right?

did yo uhappen to have a trade involved in the deal?

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.

  • vicheviche Member Posts: 30
Oh... one addition and one change. All of my numbers are correct, but I just wanted to add that it was a 7 passenger and it was option package #7 (still BW) not #8. All of my math is still good though :).

They charged me invoice, removed the $485 holdback and then added $100. So I got it for $385 under invoice. I then paid a $100 processing fee. Of course I didn't any fees like TDA and MFA which the dealer supposedly has to pay the Manufacturer. So I don't know, you tell me. I think they actually lost money or at best made $200. Follow my logic?

No there was no trade in whatsoever. The vehicle was brand new...silver and stone interior, 2 miles on the odometer, michelin tires. EXACTLY what I was looking for, but they would have done that deal for any Sienna I wanted even if they had to transfer it!

Pmcb48, check the Edmunds Maintenance Guide for what we think your maintenance should cost, and you can add that up and compare it to the cost of a prepaid plan.

I think vin etching is pretty much worthless, and is mostly a profit center for the dealer like permaplate waxing or rust proofing.

I don't know of any insurance companies that recommend it or offer any discount for it (mine doesn't at least). If your van is stolen and chopped, the windows will get tossed in the dumpster. If the van isn't chopped, you might not want it back anyway!

The police departments sometimes offer it for free around here, and I still wouldn't bother :-)

Anduril is correct; I didn't look far enough down on the Toyota Finance web site. Thanks also Steve for the reference to the Edmunds maintenance site; it does seem that $92 is a little high for a 5,000 miles checkup, but I will stop by the dealer before my Sienna arrives and the papers are finalized to get a service menu with prices from the Service Department. Will also see if they'll tell me what their 2 years/24,000 of "free" maintenance (given with each car sold) includes; it could be like adding two years/21,000 miles to the existing service already provided by this dealer. All the roadside service things both Classic and Premium plans provide I already get through AAA, so will have to look at this carefully after looking at their service menu and their "free" service. thanks again.

Just bought an XLE with option#14 through CarsDirect.com. I thoroughly recommend them for a low-stress buying experience. You don't negotiate, and you know that you'll get a decent deal at the very least.

I'm in Santa Rosa, CA (North Bay area), and the car was bought from a dealer in Davis (Hanlees), about 70 miles away. They sent a driver to take me there and do all the paperwork, and I drove the car back. No problem!

Our cost before taxes was $31535, compared to $33841 MSRP. (also included carpet floor mats).

Only complaint so far is the FM reception: the antenna on this car is built into the rear window, and as the manual points out it's far worse than a "mast" style antenna. My '99 GM piece-of-crap has much better FM reception, and this Sienna has the upgrade radio! Damn. I'll have to look at getting one installed.

Any one knows any dealer giving good deals on Sienna in philadelphia region??

The Rubbermaid solution sounds perfect and simple and cheap!!!! I forget how big that area actualy is sometimes. I put all our suitcases in there (stacked with seats up) that we normally travel with and had tons of room left over.

I cant believe that I did not think of that. Thanks again.

I purchased an LE 7 at a Sacto dealership right before Thanksgiving (see my post #2623). Back to the dealer for an oil change last Sat....talked to the salesman that sold me the vehicle. Early afternoon and a nice day - the kind that usually brings out weekend buyers. He was standing in the new car lot, which was full of idle salesmen and very few "ups".

Business has been slow since the beginning of the year and the dealer's Sienna inventory now stands at about 20 vehicles - more than 2x what it was in late Nov. Store now discounting heavily (to buyers that ask, of course). He thought bus wouldn't pick up until people began getting tax refunds. I suspect he's right, particularly since bus appeared to be very good in Dec and short-term demand may have been satiated. Couple that with families faced with paying holiday bills in Jan.

Bottom line: I consider this good anecdotal evidence that many NorCal dealers are probably flush with inventory. If I were buying today, I'd be working hard to purchase very close to invoice, say dealer's inv + $200-$300 for a CE or LE, or dealer's invoice + $300-$400 for a more expensive XLE or XLE Lim. That without running all over town from one dealership to the next. (Visits to two or, at the most, three stores should be sufficient.) Dealer's invoice + $400-500 on any vehicle should be very easy.

I don't think it likely that any NorCal dealer would be willing to sell at or below Edmunds' invoice price, unless Toyota initiates some kind of incentive program. (Let me know if I'm wrong!)

    In Northern California,

dealer's inv = Edmunds' inv + TDA + a very small gasoline charge,

typically, where TDA is the regional advertising fee, which amounts to hundreds of dollars.

Took delivery on my new Sienna XLE, pkg #12 with tow hitch and wiring harness, carpeted floor mats, cargo net, hood protector and 2 pair of wireless headphones on Saturday. The total MSRP on this would be $33,526. I paid $30,487 or $992 over invoice, which by my calculations works out to 3.4% over invoice. The salesman I worked with at Apple Valley Toyota in Martinsburg West Virginia, a scant 80 miles from my home in central Pennsylvania, never did discuss MSRP with me as my initial offer was in terms of “over invoice.” For those of you who think in terms of “off MSRP”, I believe I got $3,039 off MSRP. The vehicle was ordered back at the end of November and built the week of 15 December. I did not trade in an old vehicle as part of the deal. There was no pressure, no gimmicks, just a very service oriented and pleasant buying experience. I would recommend them to anyone. Without question the same goes for the van.
Thanks to everyone for the guidance received from this forum as it made my buying experience a very good one. My local dealer was selling at MSRP only so I decided to fax the 25 dealers geographically closest to my home, excluding the ones that I heard complaints about on this forum. I asked for an out-the-door price and proposed a figure of 2% over invoice as being fair and reasonable. I got about 8 offers, the closest to the one I wound up buying from was $1800 off MSRP. The decision was a no brainer.
See my profile to e-mail me if you want to know my salesman’s name. Good luck to all in your purchase.

Deals are not to be in New England on the high end LTD Sienna. Example:

Working on a dealer here that has a stripped LTD in the color I want. Asking window sticker $35,603.00. (MSRP)

I told them I take it off thier hands for OTD $36K ($33,900.00 without 6% sales tax) For the $800.00 we're off he is not willing to let the car go! Let it rot!
  • gordy6gordy6 Member Posts: 14
    davenow,

Which dealership are you dealing with? Have you tried Hartford Toyota? I was able to get over $2K off MSRP on a XLE FWD back in November. My neighbor has also contacted Hartford Toyota last week and is able to get a similar deal as I did (I think you should be able to do even better than I did). The other area dealers (Middletown and Wallingford) were not willing to come off MSRP. Also, have you looked into Auto Fair in NH...their website lists some limiteds at over $3K off MSRP.

    Good luck.
  • jdrexejdrexe Member Posts: 1
Anduril is spot on. I have been shopping for a new xle ltd over the last 3 months and prices have definately dropped. $500 over invoice(as defined above)seems to be "standard" quotes from dealers. If they try and come in at a higher price($1k over, etc), once I tell them there are others at $500 over they match quickly. Being that I have looked at FWD and AWD, this pricing is on either too! I had 1 dealer at $300 over but I am looking to get it down a bit lower if I can.

Has anyone had any luck getting Dealers in Illinois to come down from MSRP? Around here, dealers only willing to come $500 off MSRP, that's it. Still a great demand for Sienna's in my area.

I want an XLE FWD, with pkg #2, and mats.

Really? Which dealerships? I am looking for a LTD AWD with HO pkg. I live in So. Cal and have contacted a lot of the local dealers but nobody seems to have it. I have also got in touch with some No. Cal dealers and can only find a few have this van. However, all of them want at least $1000 over invoice.
  • gordy6gordy6 Member Posts: 14
I bought one off of their lot that had been sitting there a couple of weeks. They were really the only dealer around Central CT that had any inventory at the time. I did all negotiations by email with their internet sales person, telling them exactly what I would pay (OTD including TTL & Fees)...I had been looking for awhile, finding that most area dealers were firm on MSRP or at most about 500 - 800 off MSRP. I did not do as well as other people on this board, but I feel I got a deal I could live with and my family really enjoys the van.

I am really surprised that they are not discounting this vehicle as it looks like supply is catching up. When when you drive by their lots, they have 8 - 15 of them sitting there collecting dust. I couldn't even get Middletown Toyota to acknowledge my presence when I went to their dealership.

No one on this board seems to have noticed, but Toyota is now offering customer rebates or manufacturer-to-dealer marketing support on all Sienna models. The incentives appear in the new car pricing section on this Web site. (Kudos to Edmonds.com for posting this info, Steve!!)

The incentive varies by region (Zip code) and some parts of the country appear to be excluded. Only $70 worth of marketing support in the Sacramento and SF Bay areas, where I live and work, but a $500 manufacturer-to-customer rebate in Tampa/St. Pete.

I live in Southern California and want the 2004 XLE Limited with HO package. MSRP is approx. $38,870; invoice is $34,430. I can't find a dealer willing to go below $38K. All dealers agree this vehicle is a hard to find and best thing to do is to special order. They also agree if you don't buy it, they can sell it someone else relatively easy and in no time. Someone actually bought the one I had ordered within minutes of me turning it down because we couldn't close a deal. Was I too miserly in turning down a deal at $38K? What is best way to deal on a car in high demand and short supply?
  • minivandadminivandad Member Posts: 4
I cannot find any information about cash back or marketing support for the 2004 Sienna. Can you tell me where you see such incentive? The only cash back information I was able to find is for last year model.
  • minivandadminivandad Member Posts: 4
My suggestion is to contact the dealers north of LA (Fresno to Sacramento). I have done the same myself and have found some reasonable deals. Of course if you decide to buy this way, you will have to travel to pickup the van (Southwest airfare is pretty cheap) or you can have them deliver the van to you at an additional cost (about $200 to $400). Hope you will find this information helpful.

I get a kick out of the post of people putting up almost < 3000 dollars below MSRP and asking if this is a good price....Come on people do some research, and find out the invoice (edmunds.com site is a good start) and ask yourself if this is a good price. I am sure most of you have purchased a car before, so you know how much to pay over invoice....
Most of us who have bought the van early, have paid close to MSRP....so YES, any thing below MSRP is a good price for this van ( specially for a AWD model, during winter months) ... :)
  • stafford16stafford16 Member Posts: 2
I bought from Lustine Toyota in Woodbridge on 1/5. Local Stafford dealer quoted full price. Sticker at Lustine was $25966. Paid $25000. In Northern Virginia area these vans are still in high demand. No CE level at all. Had to wait for one to come in to test drive. When we decided to buy we had to wait for one to be delivered. Chose a LE with pkg. # 1, Z1, GN, 3Z, CF, WH. Dealers in this area generally aren't discounting, so I think getting $966 off was an OK deal.
After two weeks I am very happy with our decision. The van is very comfortable, quiet, in general all we hoped for. We also looked at Chrysler, Nissan, Ford, Chevy, Mazda, Kia, and Honda. Toyota stood out from these in cost,(except for Kia), fit & finish, and reputation.

Incentives are specific to which zip code you live in...For instance, if you go to the incentives area of edmunds and put in a Northeast zip code, it will say they don't exist...However, if you put in a Atlanta area zip code (30005), there is manufacturer to customer cash of $500.

Does anybody have experience purchasing a Sienna or other Toyota at Autofair in Manchester, NH. They have amazing prices almost too good to be true. $3800 of list on a loaded XLE Limited FWD. I am thinking of getting a van there and I live in Florida. Or, anyone know of any dealers in FLorida that are dealing? Also, that post earlier about the $500 rebate on Siennas in only for Military Personnel and their dependants. I am able to get $1000 off list as my best price in Florida.

Syinsd and minivandad, we just purchased an XLE LTD w/HO package, Running Boards, Rear Spoiler and Tote for $36,979.00 (OTD was a little over $40K) I don't know if this is the best deal around, but I was satisfied. Note that we will have to wait 4 months for the vehicle since it was preference ordered. I could not get this deal or vehicle from a traditional Toyota dealer, so I went through a broker. If you are interested and can wait for the car, email me and I can provide details.
