Just seconding what bondguy1 said..the price plus 121.00. I got an xlefwd with gh/cf for 30, 871 plus the 121.00. You might want to look around elsewhere for extended warranty prices though...I'm kicking myself for not paying attention to that ahead of time and ended up payingt them 1180 (or was it 1080?) for the platinum 7r/100,00 with zero deductible. I'm seeing a lot of folks paying about 850.00

cpstech - Sounds like you and bondguy1 got great deals at Autofair. The same car you purchased (XLE, GH, CF) is on their site for 31,995. How'd you manage to get the extra 1K off their "upfront lowest price"?

Also, I'm interested in AWD but finding one in the South to test drive has been tough. Can anyone comment on how AWD drives compared to FWD? AWD models do not come with a spare. Is there still room for one if I wish to purchase?

Thanks

I was shopping for the Sienna in the Seattle area. The best deal I could get was:

Sienna, 7 Passenger, FWD
Package #4, floor mats
$25,350

But, I bought a Odyssey instead so I don't know for sure if they would have sold at that price. I have found that the price quoted is not always what the dealer will sell for.

I just bought a 7/75000/$0 warranty and a maintenance plan for too much money. I called Toyota and they say those agreements are fully refundable within 30 days. The dealer gave me a hard time but they finally accepted that I was cancelling it and are working with me.

The easiest thing is to deal with the dealer because all you do is sign one form and done. If the dealer gives you a hard time just call the division of Toyota that handles this stuff and they will help you, 800-228-8559. Worst case you mail them a letter and they will cancel it. Then you can go shopping for a warranty.

Can anyone confirm for me that you can buy the extended warranty anytime until 3/36000 is up?

Recently picked up a Sienna LE 7 Passenger with AM Option #1 package. Did all negotiations via e-mail and finally went with Aubrey Alexander Toyota in Selinsgrove, PA. Pricing was:
$23,513 for the vehicle (including dest. charge)
$1,410 PA Tax
$125 tags
Total Out the door Price: $25,048
They were outstanding to work with and respected customers that utilized e-mail/internet for communications & research. They delivered the vehicle exactly when originally projected and never appeared to play any games. Originally agreed to the price in early December and picked up the vehicle in mid-January. A buyer could probably get a better price at this time.
All of the postings on this message board were extremely useful in establishing a benchmark price for negotiating, so thank you all!

I have been looking for an LE with package 7 (disc brakes, stability control, etc.) in So. CA, but the dealer I talked to does not have any LEs with #7, only with #4.

Are the disc brakes and stability and traction control indispensible for such a large van? Anyone's got good experience with the standard brakes (disc front and drum rear) without traction control?

Well this past weekend I was able to buy that XLE pkg 14 with CF in Artic Frost Pearl/ gray int. for a little less than $900 over invoice. You were right about the no haggle pricing. I thought this was a fair price for a in demand vehicle.(considering I've never paid more then 100 over invoice for other new cars in the past)They treated us just fine on the new vehicle, and I would also recommend them, but only if you plan to buy the new one out right. Otherwise, just like in typical dealer fashion they tried to make up any loss on the back end of the deal (our trade). We also purchased the 7/100,000 ext warranty and told the dealer if they could match $ we found on the net. for toyota platinum. He said sure but that they had changed the plan and instead of 0 deductible they now had deductibles depending on cost of repairs? I initially questioned this but thought perhaps he was right. Wrong!! Only after we got home did we notice that the paperwork just didn't look right so we called Toyota only to learn that the warranty dealer sold us was through a 3rd party insurer. Not the Toyota factory backed warranty. Wife went through the roof!! (may need to repair that before the spring thaw) I called dealer back and stated we were under impression that we were getting the toyota not 3rd party especially since we requested no 3rd party to begin with. i.e..(A lot of these 3rd party insur. are going belly up leaving customers out in the cold.) This was our reason for demanding FACTORY extended warr. He was very polite and told us to come back in to correct this which we did, but it makes you wonder if they were hoping we didn't. Good thing I called Toyota. Right away dealer back peddled blaming toyota rep for mix up. I love the fact today we live in a it's not my fault society. So let me be the first to say it's my fault for taking their word that the ext.warr. program changed. FYI.. READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY BEFORE SIGNING AND LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP. So far we love the van but didn't appreciate having to travel over 80 miles back to dealer. I almost gave up on the sienna before reading these post which have proved invaluable.

You probably could have cancelled it over the phone and purchased the genuine Toyota extended warranty from any dealer, also over the phone or by email. Hopefully you'll get a dealer survey and you can ding them good.

Btw, it's ArCtic (after many years in the frozen north I learned the correct spelling and now it bugs me to see it spelled C-less <g>).

Congrats on the new ride! (same to you, Scq, Mcibelli, et. al.)

HELP!! Looking for a warranty. Bought the van at Autofair...they quoted me for a 7/100K/0deductible warranty $1320...That sounds awfully high. I know some people were posting prices like $850...Where is that at?
Also, I called Toyota Warranty Services and they confirmed that I can buy the warranty anytime up until 3 years or 36K miles whichever comes first. Is there a benefit other than financing it to buying this warranty now? Or should I wait? Also, they told me at warranty services that in Florida, it is one of 10 or 11 states that doesn't sell warranty coverage. If you want the Toyota extended warranty, you have to buy it from a Lexus dealer. This must mean that all toyota dealers selling extended warranty's in FL are through 3rd party companies. I'm sure that is not fully explained when purchasing.

Toyotaless1, congrats on the new van! I am sorry and a bit surprised to hear that your post-sale experience went awry like you described. In our case, everything went very smoothly when we took delivery of our Sienna. We did not have a trade-in, that probably simplified our case quite a bit. We did not ask about extended warranty and nobody there even brought it up. We did finance through them since they were able to beat the best rate we got coming in by over one half a percentage point.

Anyway you will enjoy your Sienna immensely down the road, unpleasant experience at that dealership notwithstanding.

Here's how I assess the predominant risks. If you wait, you run the risk of a sudden price increase by the manufacturer.

However, if you buy now, you forego future use of the money that you spend. Furthermore, if you total the van before the original factory warranty (3yr/36K miles) is up, you waste the money.

At the very least be patient and work hard to get the best deal you can, i.e., $810-850 for the (7yr/100K/0 deductible) warranty. See my posts #3181 and 3188.

Congratulations. I saw a post on another discussion board over the weekend, that the two vans at that dealership were sold. I was hoping you were one of the buyers !

Sorry about your experience with the extended warranty, and thanks for the heads up to be sure to read all the papers carefully at the dealership before signing. I most likely will be getting a warranty sometime down the road after I have possession of my van. Build date is the week of 2/16.

ENJOY !

We've just started our search and have received one quote on a '04 Sienna, XLE with #9(es)for $31,165. Is this a good deal? We are in the Detroit Michigan area, and would appreciate any advice, leads, tips, etc. on negotiating a good deal.

Also, if we decide to lease, should we still negotiiate on the Invoice price or focus on what we want to pay a month?

THANK YOU!

Edmund's invoice price is $28,216 for an XLE 7 FWD with option package #9 (MSRP = $31,910). The quote is a good deal for the store, but terrible one for you. You should be able to make your purchase within a few percent of invoice, even when a vehicle is selling well and dealer inventory is low.

See my posts #2623, 2632, 3030, and 3208 for guidance, and don't forget the $70 manufacturer-to-dealer Marketing Support that's available on '04 Siennas in some areas. When you make an offer, you should insist on a credit for ALL of the marketing support.

"Also, if we decide to lease, should we still negotiiate on the Invoice price or focus on what we want to pay a month?"

Before proceeding any further, I suggest you read "10 Steps to Leasing a New Car" on the Tips & Advice page of this Web site. I also strongly recommend you consider reading a good book on auto buying. Check your local library or bookstore. My all-time favorite auto buying book, which discusses leasing, its terminology, and pitfalls, is Remar Sutton's "Don't Get Taken Every Time" (latest edition, 2001), available in bookstores and thru Amazon.com.

Very, very basically, when you lease, your dealer will compute your payment based on the anticipated depreciation of the vehicle during the lease period, plus interest. Typically, the dealer will use either MSRP or even 110% of MSRP as a starting point.

In other words, your store will ask you to pay for all of the projected depreciation of the vehicle, starting from an inflated vehicle price, plus interest on that depreciation. Ugh. The dealer may also use an interest rate that's higher than the rate you'd be charged if you financed the purchase with a traditional auto loan. Ugh, again.

If you are certain you want to lease, I suggest you consider doing so thru a bank or credit union, particularly if your dealer is unwilling to negotiate price (close to invoice, of course) and then base lease payments on that price.

Thanks for the info!

I noticed that in OK, we pay car tax at the tag agency. So when we buy cars, the car dealers don't charge us tax, so our OTD price is not the same as other states like TX, etc.
Right?

But I think you got a great deal--almost $3K off MSRP.
How much was your total price including OTD plus Tax, Title, and Tag?

Wow, I usually do my oil change at Dub Richardson, but I've never even seen a Sienna there. I thought perhaps Bob Howard and Fowler would give us the best deal, but I guess I'm wrong. Fowler told me "No Discounts" on the Limited because they are "Limited". That cracked me up!

But thank you very much for that information about your awesome deal. I will look right into it!

I just got a quote from Autofair for the following vehicle: XLE LTD w/AWD, packages HE, FE, CF and WH. The quote is for $37249, which is about 2k less than MSRP and about 7% above invoice. It's about $250 better than the best local offer I got, but not as good as other deals I've seen posted here. However, I haven't seen many people getting the LTD with AWD. Anyone want to comment on this deal?
• andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
I thought about AWD too, but for the extra money, I don't think it's worth it, but that's just me.
freebird73003 just got a Limited for $3K off MSRP, and that's in Oklahoma, which you would not even expect that much discount!
I would not give in until I got at least $3K off MSRP on any Limited model, AWD or FWD.

Yesterday I took my Sienna to the dealer for the 3,000-mile oil change, I noticed there were 8 Siennas on the lot. Many whites, reds & blacks. On my way home, passed another Toyota dealership, also saw about 10 Siennas on their lot. This particular one used to have perhaps 1 or 2 in the lots in the past. From where I can se, supply has definitely gone up.

I agree with andruril, usually leases are rip offs. However, on Monday I signed my first lease ever for Odyssey EX-L. It is a 36 months lease at $333/mo, 12K mi/yr, 0 down other than TTL (not even the security deposit). www.hondacars.com advertises a special lease for EX for $299/mo and about $1500 down. The dealer I leased my van from (Ourisman Honda in Bethesda MD) leases EXs for $299/mo with 0 down.

For me this lease makes a lot of sense. My wife wanted the Sienna, but I am not willing to pay anywhere close to the MSRP. In three years I am hoping that Honda, Toyota and DC will bloody each other to the point where I will be able to pick-up new Sienna for invoice minus 1 or 2 thousand in incentives. In addition, I will have a better quality van with more features that would not need an extended warranty (total savings about 4 to 5K).

You can negotiate on the sale price when you lease, just be careful, they can make up the difference on the interest rate (i.e. the money factor). My advice would be to learn how to calculate leases, ask the salesman what money factor and residual are and then grind them down on the price. If you can’t figure out how to calculate a lease, ask the F&I to show you what numbers he is putting into his computer to figure out the monthly payment and make sure they match the numbers that the salesman told you.

Thanks etalon02 & Spongen, I'm sure if I had no trade in or warranty to mess with this transaction would have been a great experience, Anyway we plan on keeping this van for it's life span which we hope will be many yrs. down the road. (unless it's a lemon) So if I only have to deal with this every 8-10 yrs. I can handle that. Spongen, hope your wait is not a long one. I know your probably dying counting down the days till your behind the wheel. I know others looking at these post are probably laughing thinking "Hey it's just a minivan." but it's got so many neat features about it, and it rides so smooth & quiet you don't even feel like your in one. Love the blue indigo gauges at night. Wife and I already fighting over who drives it. Hey, in response to bondguy1 post about warranty. We found a post on siennaclub website were someone stated toyota ext. warranty 7/100,000 platinum was being sold for $815. through some dealer I think in N.H.? They listed the dealership and everything. So we just printed this post and took it down to the dealership when we bought the sienna and asked to match instead of $1200 that they orig. wanted. Hey, what choice did they have. Either sell it or lose the deal to another dealership. Just my advice I hope it helps you.

markjacq, I tried Walnut Creek, but the price they quoted me for a Ltd was a few thousand over invoice. Can I ask who you deal with there.

also, checked with autofair, and they want 2400 over invoice of XLE AWD. Not a great price. Any advice?
• emanuemanu Member Posts: 3
Thank you both very much for your help. We are looking at all the options. Hopefully we will be able to get the van we want at a resonable price. Since my husband and I aren't great at bargin pricing, we are trying to do as much research as we can so we know what is going on. From what information I've gathered so far, if we go for a lease, we should negoitate a resonable invoice price frist and than go into the lease factor. thanks again!

Please what is the name of the dealer with the 7/100,000 platinum for $810. You can post the dealer name and city just not the web link.

I just found a LXE AWD for $33,200, with GK package, thats $1600 off list. Spoke with autofair and they can't beat it. It is in production and I should have the vin # next week and due to ship 2/21. Does anyone know of any other trick besides, bait and switch and "taking me out of the market"?

Just trying to cover myself from the dealer playing games.

Thanks

Can anyone who purchased the 7 year/100K Miles platinum warranty with $0 deductible, please post the name of the dealership and the amount they paid for it.

I had purchased the same warranty for $1078 from the dealer where i purchased the vehicle in december 2003. I was just checking the paperwork and found out that it was not from toyota but with a third party called fidelity warranty service based in florida. I just called my dealership and cancelled the extended warranty as in Georgia you have up to 60 days to cancel the warranty without any administration costs.

I would still like to get a genuine toyota extended warranty if possible. Please reply ASAP.

Lastly, I have about 2700 miles on my van already. Will that make a difference when i purchase a extended warranty since technically, its not a "New" vehicle per se.

Thanks,
bkb2003.

I am trying to buy a an XLE Limited with GV and CF. Edmunds invoice says $31,384. The dealership says their invoice is $32,118 plus a charge of $375 for invoice & services. They have agreed to sell it $1,000 over their invoice. Why is there a difference between the two?

Hey, Toyotaless1...just called Midway and spoke to Finance Mgr there...price for the 7/100 with 0 deductible is $815...that's amazing!!! Thanks for the tip...my dealer was asking $1320 for the same warranty. As for bkb2003, you should see one of my recent posts...I live in FL and you can't buy a Toyota Warranty from the manufacturer in this state because they don't sell them...you can however, buy a Toyota Original warranty in FL from a Lexus dealer (for your toyota...crazy as that seems). Somebody posted that they got the warranty from Autofair for $1080 recently...my salesman quoted me $1320 w/ 0 deductible...WAY OVER PRICED...they must not have made enough money on the sale of the vehicle...ha.ha.ha

Hi all,

Just purchased a LE w/ BI (pkg#4) w/ floor mats and cargo thingy for $23,781+fees today. MSRP was $26,651. This dealership (in Fresno, CA) has had ONE like this every weekend for a little while now. Got the drop on it today. Thanks to all here for great advice.

david- in response to your message post, the internet dept there is run by 1 person so when you email, you will get that person(im not supposed to say names). I would offer $300-500 over invoice (edmunds+tda) in an email and see what they say. Norcal dealers have a lot of inventory right now regardless and there are a number of dealers that I had talked to in the south bay (san jose area north) and sacramento areas that were also willing to go $500 over in a flash. As long as you are "this is what Im willing to pay" and you email enough dealers, someone will bite (and they have inventory)..
Best of luck- with a little work, im sure you can do better than i did. I also paid $900 for the toyota 7/100 $0 deductible extended warranty.

I am in North Texas. Just went to a local Toyota dealer today. I wanted to order a basic XLE with no options except carpet. I made an offer of $27000 including destination. By my caculation, that's about $1000 over invoice. But the dealer said it's only $300 over invoice, anybody know why the difference between their invoice and edmunds'? Also, how much are they selling for? I thought $1000 over invoice was a good deal for them, especialy all they have to do is order it, and the van don't have to sit on their lot--dealer get the whole holdback on the van.

Please advice.
• liaisonliaison Member Posts: 49
By my calculations, $27,000 is a very reasonable price to pay for an XLE with no options and for that price I would make them throw in mats. Gulf States Toyota is the distributor in Texas and there is an additional $35 charge for destination but I am not aware of any other charges added by GST. From surfing the internet, it seems that GST likes to add a lot of accessories to the Sienna but that should not matter if you order the vehicle. You might want to make the same offer on the last day of the month maybe an hour before they close. Good luck.

After waiting 2 months, I picked up our new Sienna XLE yesterday from Cincinnati dealer and we love it. Purchased XLE with option package #16. Walk out price paid totaled $34,580. Also, got financing for 4.04% for 60 months. Wanted to trade in Jeep, but they we're not willing to deal, so I will have to sell on my own.

I also noticed for the first time Sienna inventory on their lot.
• vette_dreamervette_dreamer Member Posts: 2
The $27000 that I offered did include carpets. appearantly, this dealer wants to make more profit than the $1000 I was willing to give them. I called some other dealers locally, they were willing to do the $27000 deal over the phone. But after checking some posts here, I think I am going to sit tight for a few more months for the new Odyssey to come out, hopefully by them I will be able to get the Sienna at Invoice price.
Thanks.

Looking to buy an Sienna LE 2004 in DC area. Anyone bought an LE around here? If so, what kind of price were able you able to negotiate?

Question to the general public -- What's the best LE package acquired for under 25K?

Bought a Sienna LE today - MSRP 25,800. Paid 23,600. They claimed the invoice was 23,700. On the trade-in, we got the Edmunds average trade-in price for the vehicle.

been to at least 3 dealerships with xle's but alot of them seem to have running boards on them Why?? i really don't want the running boards one guy told me they will take them off no charge the other told me they will take them off with the 600 price for me to pay LOL that was the cost of the boards left there in a hurry. still looking for an xle with a dvd player in it any suggestions on where there may be a good selection? will it be easier to find them in the summer ? or harder as the 2005 models are going to be put out there in late Aug or early sept. right? and then there is the thought of looking at the honda's redesign of the oddsey.

I just put down $500 for this Sienna, they're going to do a search for it and I'm agonizing over the color--I haven't decided which one yet. I first said I want OTD price and did have a trade. I wasn't happy with their first offer for trade so they did a little better but not great and told them that we'd think about it. I called them back later and asked for their best price with no trade and they knocked $1480 off MSRP. Originally they were just doing MSRP plus trade. I found out accidentally from another dealer that that dealership will usually deal since they're a little out of the way. I tried doing a little research over the weekend regarding my trade and I don't think it'll be an easy sell, so when I go back in to sign all the papers I'm going to see if they'll consider doing the trade anyway. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask. By the way, the price OTD is $28,121: $26,411 for vehicle with BW package #7, $1584.66 tax,$63 registration, title, tags, $55 doc. fee, $5 tire tax (PA), $1.90 messenger fee. I'm pretty comfortable with this dealership and have heard good things about them.

Hi, all...I ordered an 8-passenger LE with the CM option package (number 11) and carpet mats, dark tinted glass and a bug deflector on 10/11/03 from a dealership here in Jacksonville, FL. The price I negotiated at the time was $28,900 - about $1400 off of MSRP - and was offered $3800.00 for my trade. The dealership wanted a $1500.00 deposit, which I put on my credit card, and told me that delivery would be in 10-12 weeks. My van is still not here! The latest info from my salesperson is that it will not hit port until March 9th, with another 3 days for delivery after that. Needless to say, I am very unhappy about this. In answer to my inquiries about the lengthy delivery time, she told me that production was slowed because of the fuel tank issue (they knew that back in Oct when they told me 10 - 12 weeks for delivery) and then that there was an "internal problem with Toyota" and finally, that "someone" at the dealership had put a hold on my order and that it remained until she noticed it when she received a promotion to asst inventory manager. In the meantime, I have had to spend about $600.00 to put a new starter and tires on the vehicle I will be trading. I had the starter installed at the same dealership, btw - no break on the price! I've also since discovered that they undervalued my trade by over $400.00 when we negotiated prices back in Oct - and that is based on the current date and mileage.

By the time the Sienna arrives, it will have been over five months since I placed my order and made my $1500.00 deposit. The 2005's will also be coming out in a few months. I need advice, please. The price I negotiated back in October was based on delivery around the end of December, and was also before I had to put a substantial amount of $$$ into my trade-in vehicle. Since we are now in the middle of the 2004 model year, the Sienna that I am still waiting on is not going to be worth as much in mid-March as it was back in October. I have been losing the interest I would have made on the $1500.00 this dealership has been holding onto. Should I just cancel my order at this point and wait for the 2005's (which I would order from a different dealership!)? Or, could someone suggest what a reasonable "discount" would be off of the original negotiated price for the 2004 model? Thank you.

Have you tried MotorWorld Toyota in Wilkes Barre, PA? It may be a few hours drive for you, but I would think worth it. Send an email to their internet department.

I found out that the Central City Toyota's website listed the MSRP/Cost of their Siennas. They do not have Ltd AWD that I am looking for but it looks like that if they meant the "Cost" as the "internet price" then they are offering discounts on the vehicles listed.

Hello leesburg. We just bought a LE in Jan. from a Woodbridge dealer, Lustine Toyota. They had very few vans. We had to wait for one to come in but it was worth the wait, the van is great. We negotiated $1000 off MSRP. You may do better now as more vans seem to be available.
Lustine is your typical dealer, just say NO a few times and things will happen. Other than swarmy dealer nonsense they were OK to deal with. Good luck.

Just bought my Sienna LE AWD w/ package#4 and floor mat for $28,500 (MSRP$30,221) from Expressway Toyota in Boston. After they discounted it to $29750, I told them I'd buy immediately if they'll match the quote from the another nearby dealer (autofair.com). I said if they don't take my one and only final offer of $28,500, they should take care of another waiting customer and not waste my time or their time. They accepted and I saved two trips to New Hampshire.
