Just bought a new 2001 Sienna LE in Portland, OR area.
The car comes with FE, TO, UN, V5, and EF. The color is Stratosphere Mica with Gray interior and Gray bumper. It has a pretty nice looking. I ask the dealer to give me a center console box and cargo net for free. I also get a free lifetime oil change for every 3750 miles. The dealer gives me a full tank of gas, and I drive the new car home with $25178 out of my pocket with no trade-in and no loan.
The MSRP is $28896 including dealer Markup. It is about $3700 off from the MSRP. I feel that this price is not to bad. At least, I am happy and the salesmen are happy. The most important thing is that my 3-year-old is very happy after sitting on my old corolla for 3 years.

Stratosphere Mica is a great color. Only 4% of the 2001's are being made in that color this month. The XLE has a grey (painted) bottom panel.

The #407 deal could be good depending on the taxes etc. that went with the deal. My calculations show the net cost at invoice, including freight but not TDA is $23614. This leaves $1564 unaccounted for. Are taxes about 6% in OR?

Thanks ricardo202. We called the dealer yesterday and made the changes. I was told that I would be getting this vehicle only by end of January (thats when XLE for my region with this color will be produced - according to the dealer). He said the color of the cladding is "warm silver". He also said that I could opt for "cool silver" but the "warm silver" cladding would look nicer. I took his word for it. I wish I do not have to wait till January but what can I do ? I do not know if I go outside of my region (NC) (ie Georgia, Tennesse or Virginia) if I can get this color sooner.

Some people do well and say what they paid, but quotes like $500 over invoice are meaningless since you can not really tell what invoice - lots of dealer invoices.

For the benefit of the board:

I am searching for a particular LE configuration in Southern California that I have been unable to locate.

I emailed 49 dealers in Southern California. 3 email addresses from the www.toyota.com site were wrong. 10 responded. The range in quotes were from $380 to $1220 (which included Dealer TDA)over cost as indicated by Edmund's. They typically avoided quoting a cost over invoice, although a few did.

They quoted vans as close to what I wanted as they had in inventory. 3 dealers offered to order the van for me. The process was great and painless, but have not found a van yet to make a deal on.

If and when I make a deal, I'll post it. This board has been very helpful in making the process painless.

I'm in Austin Texas and we're in the market for a 2001 Sienna LE. This site has been very helpful in coming up with a price we'll be comfortable paying, considering the options we want. So far, NONE of the dealers I've contacted (over 6) will take 3% over invoice. They all want at least 6% and some more. I'm ready to forget the Sienna and move on. Are these vans so popular that dealers can get *anything* for them? Are people just walking in and emptying their wallets? A few dealers have been very rude to me, as if I have incredible *nerve* to suggest such a low price. I even arranged all our financing---it's a no-brainer profit for them. Should I hang tight to my 3% numbers or cave in? Thanks, Gayle

I bought our 2000 Sienna LE last year at this same time and ran into the exact same problem. It is a hot car and finding the one you want may not be as easy as a sedan or some other minivan. At this time last year, dealers thought I was nuts with 3%. After going to three dealers and running into the same line, I settled for over my three percent. Most of the problem was me, not wanting to budge off some pre-set line. I spent quite some time with various dealers and got what has turned out to be a very good price. 24,000 on the LE w/ TO, Un, EIEIO and a lot of other letters. (all but leather and power doors)

I too thought of other vans. The one thing that did it for me was the low depreciation of this van Vs. the others. Here we are one year after the sale and my van is worth just a little more that what I paid for it! Not too bad for a car. Honda will hold the value that way as well. The Chrysler? Not even close.

Do your research and know the dealers price. Make the best deal you can. Be willing to spend some time and have a budget for everything. If the deal falls in your budget, you got a good deal. Enjoy.

I live in honolulu hawaii and i paid 27300 for my sienna le. It has practicly everything on it except for the power sliding doors and leather. Did i pay to much for the car and how much should i have paid for it.
  • srivnavasrivnava Member Posts: 13
    Hi Inoue1:

If I say you had paid way too much for the LE, will you be able to get the money back or return the van to the dealer ?

Why do you want to torment yourself after you have bought a good vehicle ? Enjoy the ride. In the long run, the amount you paid extra (if at all) will be a wash ... (JMHO)

I'm in the process of trying to deal for a 2001 Sienna. The dealer tells me that the invoices have gone up as of Nov. 1 by $380. Has anyone heard about this? The dealer's trying to do a trade with another dealer who has the van I want at the (apparently) old invoice, but if I want to order a new one, I have to use the new invoice.

By the way, my target price is $24,900 (invoice+$400 dealer+$400 TDA) for a 2001 LE with UN, UP, TO, EF. I've got a couple of dealers very close to this price. Any comments? It seems that at least in Northern California, no dealer is willing to drop the $400 TDA.

I have to congratulate car dealers on making the process of getting quotes over the net as confusing as going to the dealership. The local dealers are quoting prices with MAF ($360.00) and Finance Reserve ($284.00). Sounds like a money grab to me. Can someone shed some light on what these charges are?

I live in Connecticut and priced Westerchester as well as CT.
I been getting about 1000 to 1200 0ver 9invoice whic is still to high.
If you think the sienna is high try the Honda Odyssey they want 2000 over MSRP>
Try westchester you might do alittle better.

I just helped a friend purchase a 01 Sienna from King Toyota in Deerfield Beach, FL...not far away from Ft Lauderdale, Fl.

If you go to the site: www.kingtoyota.com

e-mail the sales department, ask for Marty or Larry to give you a quote...I'm sure you will not be disappointed...my friend was able to buy his at invoice + $300 without any of the typical dealer hassles or BS.

My wife and I have been working with our local Toyota dealer for about a week trying to get the best deal possible.

After some long and hard nose negotiations (and getting serious with some other dealers) he agreed to sell us a new Sienna Le with options UN,UR,TO,FE and EF for dealer invoice $24,825.

This is a brand new 2001 Sienna LE minivan with 34 miles and absolutely nothing wrong with it. Perfect condition inside and out.

On top of this he gave me $1200 trade for my 1990 Plymouth Voyager which I found on the private market was worth less than $1000 on average.

My 'out the door' cost was $23,625 after trade + $114 doc fee plus $1181.25 sales tax and $65 for title & registration.

My wife and I are very please with the deal we were able to get. How did we do it you ask?

One of the owners of our local family run Toyota dealership told us he wanted to sell us a car more than any other dealer and build a good relationship/trust with us.

He told us he hopes we will refer others to him and bring both of our toyota vehicles to him for service/etc which we do plan to do. This is how he plans to make up for any loss in initial profit from the sale of the vehicle.

With a little luck and a lot of hard work you should be able to get a similar deal for yourself esp. now when sales are down for many dealers.
  • ricardo202ricardo202 Member Posts: 5
Your deal is very good, although it is $350 over invoice. I suspect the nasty trumped up TDA to be the culprit. I purchased the exact same vehicle two weeks ago for $24,823($100 over invoice plus $250 nasty TDA). My dealer did not use a line that "he would make up the loss with referals". In fact he seemed relatively fat and happy about the deal. The great news is that the van is awesome and as you stated, the dealers are looking to deal on these units right now which makes them relatively cheap. Congratulations on your purchase
PS You have got to be thrilled to get out of that Plymouth.

I odered an xle back in September. I was told about two weeks ago that the vehicle will be ready in the begining of December. I put $500.00 down in October. Based on Edmunds pricing it appears the cost has gone up $413.00. Will I have to pay the increase since I ordered prior to the increase? My original deal is as follows:

    Base Invoice 24,895
    Dest 480
    TDA 612
    XL,FE,XE,DJ,AC
    AJ,BE,EM,VD,EF,
    GS 2153
    Profit 800
    TOTAL 28,940
    (Excludes tax)

    How did I do?
  • jfowler11jfowler11 Member Posts: 2
    Thanks for the congrats!

My wife and I are very please with the deal we made and absolutely love our new Sienna.

And yes... we are equally pleased to no longer but burdened by that 10 year old Plymouth!
  • samscottsamscott Member Posts: 3
From what I can tell Edmunds (And Kelly Blue Book) have increased the invoice by the amount many dealers as calling TDA (Toyota District Advertising). Note the MSRP has not changed.

Perhaps the Toyota folks requested this as they're tired of arguing over TDA? Perhaps they made a successful case that TDA really is part of inventory? Anyone at Edmunds care to respond?

Anyway if you have written contract at 28,940 I can't see how the price would legally change.

    Hope you enjoy your XLE!

I'd be curious to see how you like EM (Electrochromatic Mirror) as that's a new 2001 option that sounds pretty cool.
  • micnsumicnsu Member Posts: 3
I'm not 100% positive what the abbreviations for your Sienna LE are, but I got a quote today on a new 2000 or 2001 (still waiting to hear the year)LE with the LE pkg, tow pkg, aluminum wheels, JV audio (3-in-1) and what is called the extra mile pkg here in Texas with security, mud flaps, pinstripes, roadside/towing assistance and the rear view mirror with compass for $23,365. I got this by using the live chat on the dealer's website. Go to www.toyota.com and find a dealer and click on live chat. The reps I chatted with aren't commissioned sales people and were very nice.
I resorted to the Internet when we got WAY TOO MUCH PRESSURE at the dealer here in Corpus Christi. It was a classic Edmunds senerio. Well, they've lost our business and we're going to drive to San Antonio for a vacation and pick up a new Sienna!
  • samsunsamsun Member Posts: 2
Had a great experience over the internet with Longo Toyota in LA. Just picked it up today, Vintage Red w/Oak leather. MSRP of $32,811 - included FE,UF,BE,EM,LL & EF. Was quoted and paid $28,999 (including freight of $480). Probably not the best deal ever (they would not consider dealer holdback as part of the negotiation). There was no mention of TDA, just tax, tags, and $45 doc fee. Thanks to all on this web.

I am trying to purchase the side air bag option - the dealer says it is not available on 2001 models despite the fact that it appears in the brochure. What is your experience with this option?

Went to three dealers on Long Island before we finally made a deal. Took the price from dealer #1 to #2, who would only match it. I told #3 a price that was $67.00 less than the others, which made it an even $24,900. They agreed to it. With tax, inspection and plate transfer fee, it came to $27,011. Came with FE,TO,UN,SK and EF. I still can't believe #2 wouldn't come down the $67.00. I wanted to buy from them because of past experience but went with #3 because it's closer to home.

Although I cannot speak for all regions, The BE (side airbag) option is available in the Central Atlantic Toyota region. The Sienna's that we have obtained had this option. However, they have numerous other options on them. What i am saying is that if you insist on having the BE option then be prepared to settle for these additional items.
  • ddtyddty Member Posts: 12
BE (side airbag) is available for all the XLE in
the Washington state and around area. It seems the BE always comes with every XLE here. So does VD(Vehicle Skid Control).

I was curious which dealers you went to on long island? It also seems to me that the price has come down a bit on the sienna...noticed the difference on carsdirect.com. do they ever offer the financing incentives on the van or just on the few select cars that they are trying to move?

still am waiver between the odyssey and the sienna...

    thanks

We went to the following dealers on LI:
Smithtown Toyota, Sunrise Toyota in Oakdale and Competition Toyota in Middle Island. Personally I would try Sunrise first before going to any others. Competition was very poor in returning phone calls when we were trying to find out if they could get us a van from another dealer without waiting for 3 weeks for their own to show up. When Sunrise called with a follow up phone call and I told them I was a little annoyed with Competition, he found me a van in Conn. that he could deliver in 3 days. I then asked Competition how come they couldn't deliver. After a much heated discussion, the GM called me back and said he had a van for us and with an extra option at no charge.
The main thing here is that I heard Competition likes to play games. They'll agree to a great price and then try to get you to buy a vehicle with more options in it. And if that doesn't work they just won't deliver the vehicle by saying it never came in or the wrong one came in, etc. Don't know if this is all true but they did try to get us to buy a van with more options to which I said no.
If you do go to Sunrise, talk to David Burns. He was very nice to us and he's the one that was able to find us a van right away but they just wouldn't come down the extra few dollars.
However,by staying with Competition, and this isn't Competition's fault, we have an arbitration hearing on 11/28 to try and get a new van. Check out my 2 postings in Toyota van problems II to see why.
I'm sure prices have come down a bit. We bought ours not long after they started hitting the dealers. I do believe the good financing deals were on the 2000's to try to move them out. It's a little discouraging to pay what we paid and then see some much cheaper prices around the country. The price of living in NY.
We too wanted to check out the Odyssey but when we were looking, none were around to look at except ones that were already sold and the salesman wouldn't even let us sit in it. And at the time there was a 3 month wait on them and we didn't want to wait that long. Good luck in whatever you decide to get.

I bought an XLE with towing, heated seats, mirror, LL luxury pkg, running boards, video system, rear bumper protection, cargo net and alloy wheel lock for 3% over invoice. Edmunds invoice price is $30,959. Butler Toyota first quoted around $34,500, but then dropped the price. The dealer knew I had the full invoice prices in my hand and the Edmunds "steps to buy a car" really helped. I felt that 3% was fair. But I did trade in a car and received a price which was $500 under the Edmunds trade in value, so I probably lost some on the trade in. Oh well, I am happy with the deal. Finance mgr and salesman was easy to work with. I like the heated seats as it's like a heating pad on your back!
  • vanshopper5vanshopper5 Member Posts: 10
thanks for the update. Just so happens that we went to competition over the weekend. Salesman was one of the nicest and knowledgable that we have spoken to over the last few months. Quoted a price $1000 over invoice...still thinking about it...I think that they could still come down..We are not in a hurry and want to make sure we make the right choice at the right price..as you said..it's alot of money and we expect the car to last us a very long time...Your postings regarding your problems are cause for concern for us..The Odyssey also has postings regarding problems...What to do??? (just a little joke)We have also spoken to other TOyota (salesman was horrible), Stevens TOyota, Sunrise...prices are all around $25K. Will probably visit a Honda dealer and then "bite the bullet" in making a decision... We will say that the sienna colors are nicer and the split rear seat has advantages over the bench...but bench is easier to use...oooh what a quandry..but I guess the choice is better than Bush or Gore and we won't need a recount!!! At least there's a lemon law with the car!!! Anyway, thanks for your response and good luck in arbitration...keep us posted..
  • ny25champsny25champs Member Posts: 6
We had our arbitration hearing today. We think we presented the best case we could. So now we have our fingers crossed. We should have a decision within 7 days. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Just out of curiousity, who was the salesman at Competition that you spoke to? We had Joe Riccio.

Can anybody recommend a Toyota dealer in the Hartford CT area where one can purchase a Sienna LX 2001 inexpensively?

    Thanks. _ Alex

The name of our salesman was Tom Matthews - knows his product and was nice but his price was still a bit high. Carsdirect.com has the Sienna LE at approx. $400 over dealer invoice...

Based on info found here on Edmunds and in this "Town Hall" area, my wife and I e-mailed a request for bids on a 2001 Sienna LE last night. We said we were looking for a model with options UN, UR, TO and EF (most in MA ship with this combo now) and wanted to pay $24,800 (not including destination charge, title, tax, registration and doc fees).

Our first reply was from the Lexington Toyota dealership. Mr. George Grey's response was:

"Your offer doesn't even deserve a quote."

Thankfully, some of the other dealers don't feel that way. My personal recommendation to anyone looking for a Toyota is to steer clear of Lexington Toyota.

I'll be posting the results of our bid solicitations on Wednesday, December 6th.

    Alex;

I live/work in the Hartford area and just bought an XLE (29,600 with LL,BE,HD,EF,UF - all available major options except video and VD - about $850 over invoice).

Got it at Branch in Watertown.

First I'd also get a quote from Chris Dowling at Dowling Toyota in Litchfield - he could not deliver exactly what I wanted when I wanted it. But he's quite reasonably priced - he's also the AutoByTel dealer for CT.

Also worth calling are Lorensen (Old Saybrook), and Balise in Springfield but I got my lowest prices from Branch and Dowling (and I called them ALL!)

Avoid the SuperStores in Hartford/Milford/Bristol, any of the dealers in Fairfield County and Wallingford. High hype/High prices.

All other dealers are pretty much in the middle tier price-wise - some will haggle for a little extra (Middletown) - others won't (A1 in New Haven). Expect about $1,000 above invoice at best.

Lastly, just because you buy somewhere doesn't mean you're tied to that dealer for service. I've been pretty happy with Hoffman in Avon for service. When it comes to service stick to the manual - a lot of dealers in CT will try to accelerate the service schedule without need.

    Good Luck!

  • tjno1tjno1 Member Posts: 4
I did a research and personally visited several dealers in the metro area, Price for LE is about $1000-$1200 over invoice.
I just got mine in Silver Shadow with Extra Valued Package, Towing Package, Alloy wheels, Center Console Box, Rear Bumper Protector, Cargo net, and a full tank of gasoline for a total price of $25,400 plus tax, title, and fees.
I highly recommended this dealer. Star Toyota in Bayside, Queens. The salesman is nice and honest.
He told me the best price in the area is $1200 over invoice. I finally got the car about $1000 over invoice. The most important thing is no hassle. Please give it a visit if you are considered buying a Sienna.

Smart Toyota in Madison, WI prices all Siennas
(or so they say) at 3% over invoice. So an LE
listing for around $26,800 was going for $24,867.

I like the Sienna, but the local Chrysler dealer
offers a much more aggressive deal on a Town
& Country LX. It's list is $26,900. His price
is 1% over invoice. Then a $500 rebate off of
that. Then a 0.9% financing option for 36 months.

By the time I priced it all out, including tax,
the Toyota had started out at $100 less on list,
but ended up costing me $4400 more over a 36 month
    period.

You've really got to be sold on the Sienna in
order to be willing to pay over $4000 more than an equivalent Chrysler.

You cannot use price as your criteria. I drove T and C and yes it is nice now, but I had a 96 Grand Caravan and a 98 Sienna. The Sienna was much more pleasing to drive and had tremendous resale.

Just paid $125 (plus $10 shipping) for genuine Toyota Front End Mask from Texas Toyota (Toyota-parts.com). They were quite helpful over the phone and made sure I got the right part for my 2001 Sienna - the earlier models have a different grill and less expensive Front End Mask ($106). Prompt delivery too.

Steve - Drew - Thanks for checking on this discussion for me - As of today I do see this forum in a search but wasn't before - But it does look like everyone has taken a Christmas break - of course if you time it right this is probably a great time to buy a car - I can't see the showrooms being too busy.

I called a couple of the dealerships in Columbus, OH and told each one that I only wanted to pay invoice for a Sienna LE. At first, they balked and said "no way". But I said, "I know new car prices are soft even for Toyotas." Most dealers will agree that the new and used car market is very weak because of the over supply of new and used cars. Two dealers said it was no problem for me to buy at invoice as long as they had the car I wanted on their lot. I ended up buying my Sienna LE at invoice. I paid invoice($25,072) and the sticker was about $28,200. The price I paid was 88.9% of the MSRP, sticker price. If you don't want to haggle with the dealer, I would recommend you call the dealership first, ask to speak with the salesman or sales manager. Tell them what you are willing to pay, i.e. invoice. Then if he tells you to come in first, I would say that you don't want to waste anyone's time because all you want to pay is invoice and you know the new car market is soft so it shouldn't be unrealistic. Also, you might want to add that you don't want to buy a Toyota Sienna unless you can get it at invoice. Good luck....even if the dealer rejects your offer, at least you didn't have to go there and haggle with them in person.

Just bought a 2001 Sienna LE at Koons Toyota with UN and TO. They had to get it from another dealer to get the colors (white with gray interior) that we wanted. We came in well researched. Invoice including destination was $23,802. MSRP was $26,257 We paid $24,266. This did not include tags or taxes. We had no trade. This is 1.9% over invoice. There was no mention of ad fees. We are very well pleased with our deal and with the dealership. It was truly painless!

Bought 01 XLE with LL package (leather, roof, 6 disk JBL, dual power door), Video system, towing prep and hitch, rear bumper prot, Power lumbar, roof visor, wheel locks, extra mile rip off package (running boards, roadside assistance, tire hazard warranty etc). paid $32,000 or $1,000 over invoice. List was $35,650. I feel business was slow and I could have gotten another $400 off if patient.

Time of the essence purchase and done without my husband. Used Edmund's research and TMV. Picked up my loaded Sienna and am very happy with it. Leather, heated seats, entertainment pkg, Michelins, dual power doors, moonroof, VSC,disc changer, speakers, etc. I purchased at TMV (roughly 1200 over invoice). Feel I probably paid too much, but am extremely happy with the van and it was a done deal in less than 3 hours! Thanks Edmund's for your help - great service you offer.
