There have been repeated references to transmission hesitation on several of the boards here. Some complain its a real problem, others seem to attribute it to Toyota's built-in "intelligence" feature, and some haven't experienced it.

    Hi Davidsden

I've seen a couple of your posts on buying your auto. 2 quick questions:

    - did you see what you wanted on their website or did Fitzmall search surrounding inventory for a "best match"

    - I'm looking for a car for export and therefore want to buy with dealer tags and drive to the docks. Hence, I want to avoid sales tax. Did you get all the documents at the point of sale such as "Certificate of Title".

    Thanks in advance
  • rorrrorr Member Posts: 3,630
Well, I checked the prices posted on the Fitzmall website. Wow.

If only Maryland wasn't so far from central Texas.....8^(

Does anyone know of a similar type of dealership located a BIT further west?
  • hopehope Member Posts: 1
I am in RI too and wonder if you would share where you got this price and which option package was involved (w or w/o navigation?). Did you have a good experience with the dealer?
  • dmelsondmelson Member Posts: 1
A new (never titled) vehicle has a Certificate of Ownership (CO). If you contact the dealer a couple of days in advance, they can have it for you when you pick up the vehicle (assuming that you are not financing with anyone that wants a lien). With that and a temp tag ($15 in Maryland), you drive the vehicle to the port.
  • etoilebetoileb Member Posts: 34
    Thanks Dmelson. URA*.

One more question to tax you with. Years back I purchased a New Beetle Tdi when they were hot and exported it - it was never registered in the US. For weeks after the dealers phoned me trying to work out why it hadn't been registered. I had read on another board that as the car wasn't registerd in the US, they lost out on some of the dealer compensation from VW (holdback, rebate, etc?).

Do you know if there could be any truth in that? If so, shall I keep silent on why I don't want it taxed?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm a newbie and I've been reading over these posts and see some nice looking deals. I'm about to negotiate for an LE with package #1. The internet price from a local dealer is 26105. That's a little under the Edmunds TMV price, but still much higher than some of the deals I read about here. Any hints or tips on how I go about negotiating this down?

    Thx,

    Jim

Despite the advice of many in this forum, I wouldn't limit your inquiries and negotiations strictly to the internet. It's a great tool for researching invoice pricing and evaluating a dealer's inventory. But once you know the dealer has the van you want in stock, as well as how much you're willing to pay, then I think it helps to make a personal appearance. If you're going to finance, study the best rates--and where they are--ahead of time. If you're going to pay cash, take a check with you. And if you're trading a car, take the title with you. These two items in your fist show that you are serious, and are an amazing motivator for the mystery man in the back that must approve your deal. Stand firm on your maximum price, and be prepared to stand behind your offer if they accept it. If they don't, another dealer will. Not many smart dealers will let a customer who's willing to buy today walk away.

The same strategies don't work for everyone. Just my two cents...

As others have done on this forum, I just purchased a 7 year/100K/0 deductible Platinum Extra Care warranty from KC Summers Toyota in Mattoon, IL for $795 for my 2005 XLE AWD. Dealer in Maryland where I purchased the car wanted $1175. Transaction was done by phone and mail, very easy.
  • pepperwoodpepperwood Member Posts: 1
Just purchased a Sienna XLE LTD $37,756 MSRP for $34,479. Should be about $700 over invoice.

Dealer laughed when I wanted the 7/100/$0 warranty for $795. I will call KC Summers tomorrow and get that.

In February 2005, I'm looking to buy a 2005 Sienna LE 8 passenger with option package 1 or 5 in or near Louisville, KY or Southern Indiana. Has anyone had any positive experiences with dealers in this area or know of any potential deals available? I will need to do any/ all negotiating via e-mail or phone as my family will be moving to the area in February and I will want the vehicle ready when we arrive.

Iam trying to buy Sienna 2005 LE with package #5 in Cincinnati. Can some one suggest which dealer I can go to to get a good price.

    Thanks
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Competition seems to be fierce in the Queen City. Try any of them but be sure to get quotes from both Kings Toyota and Toyota of Cincinnati.

sorry folks, i have posted this message on several discussion including toyota accessories, but no help. i am reposting it here.

i have a 2004 XLE. Has anybody installed after market moonroof/sunroof in XLE. is it true that since in the after market ones, since they have to cut the metal, it exposes the metal for potential of getting rusted in future. any preference over webasto v/s asc. also if i were to install an aftermarket dvd system on the roof will it be problematic to have both the dvd and the moonroof, especially since the XLE has a rear seat audio feature which i want to keep if possible.

any input will be very much appreciated
  • heywood1heywood1 Member Posts: 851
Between the added cost of these 'upgrades' and the negative impact that aftermarket products have on re-sale value, you'd be better off puting this money toward a trade for an '05. If you wanted these options, you should have bought them factory installed in the first place. Just MO.

i've been e-mailing every toyota dealer in my region (ut, az, co, id, wy) for a 2005 xle ltd awd, gv option package, & apparently they're very rare. only 2 were found in my region. one is in "freight status," and the other is in "allocation status." what do these terms mean? thanks.
  • johnlmiiijohnlmiii Member Posts: 2
I bought the sienna at Boch Toyota South on Route 1 in Attleboro. I believe the MSRP was $40,186, which included just about everything except Navigation and running boards. I offered $37,000 and they countered with $37,900, which I accepted but also had the recent graduate rebate of $400 bringing the purchase price to $37,500 for the XLE LTD with AWD. The experience with the dealer was very good except with Finance. The finance manager ultimately got me the rate I wanted but was non committal until the end. I don't like to have unanswered questions. In addition, he was not willing to budge on the extended warranty. He offered two of them, one was $1,825 and the other was $2,200. I didn't take either since I can buy it from another dealership for $795. It is a great ride so far and I highly recommend it.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
I'm guessing that "freight status" means the vehicle has been built and is in the process of being shipped. "Allocation status" means that the (yet to be built) unit is allocated to a particular dealer, i.e., it is slated to go to a specific store sometime (whenever that may be) in the future. I'm not sure how far into the future "allocation status" information is available. Up to a certain date prior to production, dealers can change the equipment on vehicles that have been allocated to them.

Best bet is to follow up with these two stores for more precise information.

Glad to hear you're finding what you're seeking.

Just wanted to add that Del Toyota held the car for me without a deposit (but they did ask that I pick it up within 5 days of me saying that I wanted it) and sent me a signed purchase order right after I asked for it. None of the other dealers would do that for me...in fact it was torture even trying to get a signed purchase order from some of the dealers...

I would not travel to get any car from out of town until they send me a signed purchase order because I had heard of the bait and switch happening a lot.

And Fitz Auto mall said they would beat it until I came to them with the signed purchase order in hand.

I just went to them and told them the best offer I had so far and they matched it without looking at a signed purchase order. So it was a very easy experiance with them.
  • ilufxilufx Member Posts: 13
well, i considered that option and even went to the dealership. i would get about 25k for this van and the new 2005 xle with moonroof and the dvd would atleast cost me 32-33k without even adding the taxes. i had personal reasons for not getting moonroof and dvd. i had never driven a vehicle with moonroof, till i got my second car, fx35 and so i got interested in the moonroof. As for the dvd, since i want to keep the rear seat audio feature i am limited to audiovoxx as no other brand is compatible in this situation. if i trade the 04 van, i think i will be loosing a lot of money for getting these options which i could get for about 2800 installed (asc 840 moonroof and 10.2 inch audiovoxx flipdown rooftop model with in-built dvd, wireless head phones, tv tuner, fm modulator).

The dealer said all of the XLE limited is built is Japan, some of the XLE is also in Japan.

Is this true? If some one have this vechele, can you check if the VIN start with "J" ?
  • impact01impact01 Member Posts: 95
This is blatantly false. As far as I know, all 04 and later Siennas are built in the Princeton, Indiana plant. My limited VIN starts with 5TD**

Ask this dealer to show you a Sienna with a J* VIN. Could you please let us know who this dealer is?
  • thefishermanthefisherman Member Posts: 1
I too bought one last weekend from Boch Toyota South on Route 1 in Attleboro. Paid $28,400 for the AWD with Package #4 (BJ). This is $650 over Invoice and $1,500 under the Edmunds price here.

I didn't really have much time to haggle as the kids were getting antsy, but I'm fairly happy with the deal. Unfortunately I paid $1,195 for the extended warranty, which was too much. Live and learn.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Actually (depending on other, if any, optional equipment), this is very, very close to invoice (including TDA) and an excellent price.
  • indy93indy93 Member Posts: 97
    Is this a good deal?

    $36,359.00 + Tax and Lic

Sienna XLE Ltd. FWD, HO, Arctic Frost, Floor Mats, Factory Spoiler

    Socal
  • tinlittletinlittle Member Posts: 21
If you are not happy with the extended warranty, you can ask for a refund. Call the sale person and tell him you can get it much cheaper (around $750) online.
  • mag76bhsmag76bhs Member Posts: 1
I've seen this package on Cardirect, but haven't seen it anywhere else. Has anyone purchased this package and at what price?

    I just picked up a 05 Blue Mirage Ltd./Navi for #35,085.00 + $45.00 doc fee, $288.00 lic and $2897.81 tax.

    Sienna Ltd.

    HO Limited Package #2

    CF Carpet Floor Mats

    7R Emergency Assistance Kit

Socal dealer - van had 2 miles on it and just came in today. If you are looking for a Sienna buy this week...dead time for some dealers. Four dealers were calling to make a deal after I sat down to deal... walked out on a deal when this last dealer called with this below invoice deal!
  • lghong67lghong67 Member Posts: 29
    Indy93,

This sounds like a great deal. Could you tell me where you're located, and the name of the dealership? Also, was there an "advertisng fee" attached?

    Thanks, LH
  • indy93indy93 Member Posts: 97
We live in the San Gabriel valley. Claremont toyota(fleet/internet). No "advertising fee."

Seems some dealers are nervous about the last two weeks of the year..and will cut deals in the late afternoon or evening. However, don't look to the "mega dealer" for the best deals. Downey, Torrance, West Covina or Alhambra are other possibilities.

I don't think some of the dealers want to carry $39,000+ units into next year when they know more are on the way shortly. Seems also that Navi cars are beginning to become a little more available.(3-4 three per month)

Hit them on a week day evening if you like to dicker I don't!...and yes they can commit over the phone if motivated to do so!(don't accept "if I".. "what if I" clarify you options are an exact match and tell them no what if games).

We were actually sitting in the fleet office at the "Mega dealer" about to sign and write the check! But other dealers kept calling with lower and lower offers. Finally we walked out, the difference several hundred less.

If dealers believe you are going to buy immediately it exerts tremendous pressure on them! (I am going to buy from ------ today here's my cell #)

Secret- there is no such thing as a take it this moment only deal. Every "real" fleet/internet mgr. will honor the deal offered as a backup to your best offer. Hope this is useful. Happy Holidays - Sienna is a great choice!

They can do better. Hold on give me a minute to back out your deal. Sounds like your vehicle price is about $36,800. That is still highter than they will go at fleet pricing.

See my post $36,062.00 is the vehicle price. + $45.00 doc, $288.lic(prox)+ tax = 8.25%

I put down a $1000 deposit on a new 2005 Sienna sometime in November....expecting that it would be delivered before Christmas.

I found out recently that I will now receive the vehicle until after Christmas during the last week in December. Unfortunately, I won't be able to pick it up until the 1st of the year because of a business trip.

After finding this out....the dealer suggested that I go in and sign the paperwork immediately so that he can "put the sold sign on the vehicle" and hold it so that no other dealer can sell it.

I will be able to pick it up...just not immediately. Based off of his estimated time of arrival, the vehicle will be on the lot for a couple of days before I can pick it up. During this time, can the dealer ( or any other dealer ) sell the vehicle if I can't pick it up immediately?

Thanks indy93. Actually the car MSRP is $39,856, but he offerred me $37,128 and OTD price to be $40,540.00. So do you think I can offer them $39,000.00 O.T.D.? Is it possible? That's $856 below the MSRP.Or what do u think the best price I can offer so that they will let go the car? Thanks for all the input guys~~ Merry Christmas.
  • marukoo888marukoo888 Member Posts: 4
so what options do you have in this vehicle?
  • lghong67lghong67 Member Posts: 29
When using invoice or MSRP as reference points, it is probably better not to use the OTD price, simply because T/L can vary from place to place.

That said, you should be able to get a better deal. I believe Indy93 said that Longo offered him $500 over invoice. If the dealer adds an "advertising fee" in the invoice price, then the HO invoice price should be around 35250. Add $500 and a $45 doc fee, then you should be at 35795. OTD price, then, would be $39K and change (T @ 8.25%, and $288 L). Oh yeah, add about $200 for the artic pearl.

I believe, based on my own preliminary research, and what Indy93 said, you should be able to get a better deal, especially if you, as Indy93 suggested in another post, go to competing dealers and let them know the current offer you are considering. Tell them to beat that offer, have your financing ready, and I'm sure you'll be able to spend the money you save on a few extra options or Christmas gifts.

Good luck, and let us know how things turn out.

Bought a LE 8 seater with option #6 last night. I went through to negotiation through emails and I believe I found a good deal. I emailed about 20 dealers in Chicago area. Schaumburg Toyota offered $300 above invoice and Continental Toyota offered $200 over invoice. It seems their invoice price is $450 than the invoice price at Edmunds.com. Finally I got the car at $26,163 (MSRP $28,946) with Continental Toyota. The sale man is very nice. (I doubt he is real auto dealer J)

It is an interesting that I first asked for a LE with 7 seats and the dealer yesterday emailed me said they got it for me. When I went there, the car just arrived with just 4 miles and I found it is an 8 seats model. The dealer said: “Oops, I didn’t notice it either”. Since the 8 seater is just $130 higher than the 7 seat one, I just went ahead to sign the contact.

Thanks guys in this forum, I gathered most of my information get this deal.

Ready to buy 05 Sienna XLE Ltd FWD with color Arctic Frost Pearl. Do not want DVD and/or NAV system. In Dallas/Fort Worth metro area, I got offer price $34,380(not OTD price) with MSRP $37,333. This price comes with base XLE Ltd, muds guards, carpet met and several other accesories.

Questions: Can I get a better deal than $34,380? Does anyone has good experience/price with delears in Dallas/Fort Worth metro area?

    Thanks for any inputs!
  • lghong67lghong67 Member Posts: 29
    arg013,

in my area, the invoice price for the LTD w/o any options is approx. 32000, plus a $300 "adv fee." Let's call it 32300 then. Add about $200 for the artic pearl, another $300 for random accessories and we're at 32,800. This suggests that you're still paying approx $1580 over invoice. You should be able to negotiate down to $1000 above invoice at the very least, $500 with some more sweat.

I don't have a clue as to the demand in your area, but I would try several dealers at any rate.

    Good luck.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
I have a view somewhat different than that of lghong67.

At least in Ohio (where TDA on this unit is substantially more than the figure lghong67 mentioned), a $3000 discount off of an MSRP of $37,333 is about as good a deal as is possible right now.

In fact, to give you an idea of market conditions here: I found an '04 Sienna XLE Limited AWD with the HE package and 4000 miles on it (supposedly driven by the dealer's wife). MSRP is $39,606 and invoice (exclusive of TDA) is $35,108. Their best price is $35,808, well short of my $35,000 offer.

I think you need to pinpoint the invoice to the penny and find out how much TDA is in your area.

Others claiming good deals have mentioned buying anywhere from a couple of hundred under that combined figure to $500-$600 over.

    Good luck!

The lowest price offered by Longo was $36,062.00 add to that $45.00 doc, Tax 8.25%, and lic. $290.00 aproximately. = $39,372.12 OTD.

Good Hunting your Sienna should be home by Xmas!

    3 Points:

    1. What is difference between this fully equipped XLE and Limited. Package 12 includes everything the highest option Limited can have...so base difference is just differenc between Limited and XLE. I went through compare on Carsdirect.com and think it boils down to 2 things:

    a. Limited is nicer leather and includes some faux wood trim

    b. Limited has the parking sensors system front/back that XLE doesn't (package 12 which includes navigation also has the backup camera)

    Comments?

    2. Dealer Price (verbal so far, from Westboro, MA Toyota) is $37,100 which includes delivery (but of course not tax, license, or document fee which is high at $245, but includes full tank gas (retail value here about $38 bucks and MA inspection sticker which costs $29). That's $200 more than Fitzmall (that's how I got the price, making them compete with Fitz..but that was as far as they would go, and Fitz is only $99 for doc. fee, but I bet it's just a doc. fee, no gas)

    Comments: On how this sounds?

    3. Totally different question: How usuable (if at all) is the navigation system to a passenger in the front while I'm driving?

    Comments?
