My wife and I purchased our 2002 Sienna XLE yesterday. Color: Super White, equipped with FE (50 State Emissions); UF (Towing Package, Dual Auto Climate Control); BE (Side Air Bags; EM (Inside Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror); XLE Luxury Package; EF (Rear Bumper Protector). The search and buying process was the easiest ever and I can truly say that the internet has completely changed the car buying experience for us. I went to the Toyota dealership web site and located about 100 dealerships in the Los Angeles area. Then, I sent an e-mail to about 50 of them (simply by copying their e-mail address into my e-mail message). About 8 e-mails failed being delivered, but approx. 30 dealerships responded within 24 hours. This started a 5 day e-mail and phone exchange process in which several dealers where very good in describing the type of cars they currently have on the lot and at what price over/under invoice they are willing to sell it to me "hazzle free". Prices quoted were anywhere between $300 below to $750 above invoice. Nothing compared to the $1,200 over invoice a local Toyota dealer "had to have" after I visited their show room for the third time! As we were not sure about what color we wanted, we were looking for a large dealership with good inventory. We found it in Longo Toyota, El Monte. They hat 17 LE's and XLE's to choose from. Prior to visiting the dealership Internet Sales Manager Will Amiri (will.amiri@longotoyota.com) gave us a detailed and competitive written offer. He was very knowledgeable about the vehicle (which we reached after a short ride with a golf cart across their huge lot) and the process of agreeing on the price, documentation, sale of the old vehicle was very quick. Longo even has AAA insurance representatives on the property and we were able to get the old car removed from our insurance policy and the new car added right on the spot. Longo is currently expanding even more and soon you'll be able to drink specialty coffee in their very own Starbucks branch - for some of you out there this my be an added benefit . The invoice price for our vehicle was $28,945.00 (incl. the $300 advertising fee). MSRP was $32,525. We ended up paying $28,688.15 (plus sales tax, $45 doc. prep. fee, license and $5 CA tire fee), before taking into account the value of our trade in.
Another very responsive dealer with a good offer was David Hatch at North County Toyota, Anaheim (www.northcountytoyota.com). I probably would have bought from him had we not been so impressed by Longo, El Monte (several miles closer to L.A. than Anaheim).
Summary: at this particular time it should not be difficult to get a 2002 Sienna XLE at or below invoice price (invoice includes the TDA fee). Do NOT talk to sales people on the lot but get in touch with the internet sales/fleet department of the dealers you are considering.
I was all set to pay close to 10% off list for a new Sienna XLE with towing package, side airbags, Mirror w/compass, XL and LL luxury package, rear bumper protector and center console. I was quoted $29,400 by a local dealer and I kept my eyes open for a better deal all this week. Well, this morning I looked at the paper and saw an ad for $5000 off list on 5 different Sienna's at Bob Baker Toyota in San Diego. I called them up, all ready for the "Sorry, we just sold the last one" line. Instead, I was told that 2 were remaining and the colors were silver and gold. I called up my wife and down we went to check it out. Everything went perfectly. We tried to hide our glee as we signed on the dotted line for $27,660 for a $32,660 list price Sienna...got the gold. We are elated! What a deal. I never had much faith in those ads that list a great price followed with "One at this price". The finance manager there told me that I got close to $1400 below invoice. My advice for those of you getting ready to purchase is look out for such deals and pounce early. I was able to look up the VIN of the Sienna on the dealers website before visiting so I knew what I was looking at.
Now for a drive up the coast......
Mike.
Oh yeah, I had to pay an additional $500 because I took the special financing 0/36. The sales tax was 6.9% and processing fee was $79.
I was offered an extended warranty (Toyota's Platinum Package) for 84/100K with zero deductible for $770. Is this a good price for the extended warranty? I have 30 days to cancel for a full refund.
P.S. The dealerhip was great in conducting the sales.
Anyway, the deal I got was a 2002 Canadian CE for $22,350.00 (no dest/adv charges-see below)...It has the C/CE value pack for the Canadian CE's which includes the privacy glass and keyless entry...It has power doors and windows, cruise, CD/tape, Quad seats (which I believe the 2002 american CE's do not offer anymore for 2002), full size spare, tilt wheel, steering wheel radio controls, rear climate control. imobilizer theft deterent on the engine and the blue color we want...
Note that I research the warranty issue to DEATH and it IS COVERED under Toyota warranty according to Toyota US and Toyota Canada and a dealer I spoke to...
I ran some numbers and based on the numbers from the various sites with the options I have I got the van for $ 800 under invoice for a new one even with the rebate going on now for US 2002's...Moreover, there was no destinate charge or advertising fees, etc...Technically it is considered a USED vehical with 41 miles on it...
Anyway, I would appreciate any input on how I did pricewise on this van...I LOVE this van..
Thanks for your help...This forum has been indispensible...

Here are the details:
2002 Sienna LE with Tow Package (TO), 50 State Emissions (on all Toyota Sienna's)(FE), Power Sliding Door (AJ), LE Extra Value Package (UN), Rear Bumper Protector (EF) and Cargo Net (GN).
Price I paid: $24,650, this was $423 over the Kelley Blue Book Invoice Price. I also paid a doc fee of $68 and license and tags of $113.50, the later 2 varied a lot depending on the dealer so shop and negotiate these added fees. Of course there was also tax (6% in NJ) One dealer wanted to charge a $166.00 "prep and delivery" fee. I laughed and said that's YOUR cost of doing business not mine. I also took the $500 rebate so in reality I paid $24,150 plus tax, tags and doc fee (total out the door cost of $25810.50). I felt this was a fair price.
I highly suggest going to kbb.com for the Kelley Blue Book pricing. Just hit price a new car or build a car and all the options will be available to determine the dealer's invoice price. I noticed all the dealer's told me a higher invoice price which usually ran about 400-500 dollars more than kbb.com. This is apparently an advertising fee...don't pay it. kbb has been around for 75 years so believe what they print not what the dealer tells you because they will claim it's not accurate. Who's more reliable an independent source or a person who will profit off your purchase?
Sticker: $28010.00
FE- 50 State Emissions
TO- Towing package
AJ- Power side door
SP- Symphony package
WL- Wheel Locks (alloy)
EF- Rear Bumper Protector
$24900 ($25400- $500 Rebate)
Was this a good deal, price wise ??
You got a nice van, great upgraded fabric, alloy wheels, top-notch sound...
Only thing is...it's not red (IMHO).
Just wanted to share that I opted to buy a demo 2001 Sienna LE with only 4800 miles for $21,300 at Keyes Toyota at Van Nuy's on the weekend.
It had the Alloys wheels,
JBL upgrade,
Burwood dash,
Right power sliding door,
and side air bags.
My wife loves it!!!
This is my second car I bought as demo's. I have save over $7G's for a car that was only driven for 5 months! I have not so far regretted buying demo's.
I just hate it when they try to sell you all the unwanted stuff like "certified" additional protection / electrical component protection crap and lo-jack blah blah!
Just show me my car keys...and I'm off!

As for the recent discounts - no doubt they're moving inventory to make room for the larger remodeled version (Toyota remodels in 5 year cycles and 2003 is 5 years for Sienna).
For the first time ever I've seen $1000 rebate and 1.9% financing advertised in CT.
If you can wait on the Sienna right now you probably will get a much better deal in the summer on the 2002s.
But looks to me like ccancio did well - happy motoring to you and your wife! What color did you get?
Sienna size: 194.2x73.4x67.3
Ody Engine size : 3.5L 240HP
Sienna engine size: 3.0L 210HP
Now the leg room
Ody : 40'
Sienna: 36.7'
Price for an Ody EX-L $28000, about the same for Sienna with less features.
Boy, I didn't realize that this thread had a war going on when I posted how much I bought my Sienna for.
By the way it is White Sienna for wolverine.
Honestly, my first choice "was" a Honda Odyssey. I was impressed with the hide-away rear seat that most and then the drive chracteristics but as all of you know the dealerships would only charge MSRP or above. Even greedy car lots were trying to sell used 1999 Odyssey with 49K miles on the clock for $25K.
This knowledge sickened me (as I know the feeling is shared among the other new van owners who opted for something else other than the Odyssey) so as a wise/informed consumer I looked for other alternatives.
I alway go by the rule that in essence I "control" the car, and not the car controling me.
I chose this particular Toyota Sienna I bought primarily because the opportunity presented it self to me to buy a near new car below Dealer invoice. With all the extra conveniences that came along with the car at that low price ...how could I say no?!
If I were offered that same deal with a Honda Odyssey LX to buy one under invoice, I would have taken the Honda...but we all know that would never occur.
I had to compromise. My main goal was to buy a relatively spacious vehicle to ferry my wife and kids in confort and safety. I knew that the Sienna had a great crash safety rating to protect my wife and kids and I respected the Toyota badge. I drove the vehicle and was impressed by the smooth suspension on rough roads and highway feel.
The seats were very confortable and I likes the JBL option.
I never owned a van with a power door, now I don't know how one can drive without one, especially with small kids.
The only thing I realized that was going to be difficult, and it is, is carrying the 3rd row seat out when required to load large cargo.
For me, the best part of the purchase was surprising my wife (who till now, struggled with great difficulty ferrying my 1 and 3 year old in a sedan) and see her happy face, she just loves the car!
OOhhh Man....I got so many "brownie points " from her to last me through Christmas!!!

Like you, my sister-in-law bought white - not a demo but she bought late in the 2001 model year - my guess is white is not that popular - tan and green are all over the place - at least here in CT.
As for a war - not on my part - I was just pointing out the two vans are "similiar" - apparently that tweaked the guy who owns the Ody.
Like you I too considered Ody and found it quite nice and easily comparable to Sienna - just boils down to the deal you get and availability.
And you got a good one.
Oh yes, removing the 3rd seat is a pain - be careful not to scratch the bumper as so many have done.
3rd seat's a definite plus for Ody which next year's Sienna will copy along with a number of size/power improvements to this years Ody as noted above in the comparision.
Happy Motoring to you and your wife!
I have linked this discussion into that folder, but it will always reside here in Vans.
Looking forward to meeting everyone!

The frame is so pathetic you can see the moulding projetions all over, as if those japanese engineers were on tha 5 minute vacation and didnt care much about it.
I bought the vehicle from a dealer in San diego and happenned to buy it during the night. Thanks to the law in california I couldnt return it for what I saw about the build quality.
so that makes me wonder , what did I pay for. Never again with Toyota for sure. My advise to you...dont buy a vhicale in the night.
Thanks!

Not as good as the person in Atlanta I read about here but for the North East, not bad. The van is so smooth it is boring! But that is testament to how well it is screwed together. I also negotiated lifetime oil change. I'll let the Toyota dealer use OEM filters, proper oil, his techs, factory intervals and let his computer system document it all. Any sludge problems will be their problems. This negotiation point was key to me, more important than the extra couple hundred that I could have attained in protracted negotiations. If the sludge thing is real I suggest you all do the same if you can attain it.
Also, any difference between CE+HV(ce extra value package) and the base LE? Maybe the Rear window auto or manual open?
Thanks.
Jason
Hope this helps someone out there.
It was on sale for $23,988 plus tax and licensing, minus $1,000 rebate. It has TO, AJ, BE, EF, and SK on top of the Symphony option!
thanks
Dana
BTW We just got a call that our 2003 Lunar Mist Symphony just arrived. We are going to check it out early next week. Let you know what happens. MAybe I can try to work out a rebate! : )
Moral: Don't stop trying to save money!!!
I used a service here in MA (Mass Buying Power) which gives a fixed price for the Sienna: invoice + $200.
dealer invoice: 23229
profit: 200
doc/prep fee: 200
rebate: -500
total: 23129
The dealer invoice (which they showed me) differs from what you see on various web sites by $333, which according to the dealer is some sort of regional ad fee which you can't get out of paying.
This model is almost exactly the same as as LE with the extra value package, but cost about $850 less. Biggest differences are power rear quarter windows, illuminated visor mirrors, illuminated entry system, and a tachometer. I can live without these for $850!
Total time in the dealer: about 45 minutes. No hassles, no pressure. Maybe I could have shaved a few hundred more off by playing the dealers against each other, but I hate playing that game.
Wellesley Toyota, Wellesley MA.
The Toyota web site lists "rear privacy glass with power-operated rear quarter windows", so I'm wondering why it's missing on your car. I don't think "power operated" is that big a deal, but it's kinda hard to reach from the driver's seat...
Not having a Tac is just fine with me, but the speedo in the CE is the ugliest thing possible. Big, clunky, overdone. Gheez guys, are you trying to punish us for only buying the options we really want?
BTW, what's with the walk-through? Americans don't seem to want it for some reasons, are we really all too fat to squeeze between the seats? With a small kid on a long trip, the "discipline aisle" is the bee's knees.

My previous minivan (Windstar) had power ones, we hardly ever used them so it wasn't a big deal not to have them.
I think on the Sienna they are not available at all on the CE no matter what options package you get, they are only available on LE and higher.
I agree that the blue speedo is a little strange, but I don't really focus on small cosmetic issues like that. After I drive a new car for a little while, I stop noticing those things, it doesn't even register any more.
My biggest gripe after having the car for a week is the quality on the floor mats and cargo mat. In the Windstar, the mats were very thick and rubber-backed and covered the *entire floor*, under the seats, by the doors, everything. The Sienna mats are thin, they cover only in between the seats and part of the cargo area (if you take out the rear seats, there is no mat protecting a large part of the floor), and the color doesn't exactly match the color of the interior carpeting.
