Well you might not believe this but Pep Boys Ceramic Lifetime pads are the ones I recently installed. They stop well and are dust free! No squeal either.

Found a 2001 LS Sport for an unbeatable price....however, the price is due to it's high mileage. It was apparently a company car and has 161,000 on it. He said that because it was a company car, it got all it's routine maintenance and such and was well taken care of. I'm a VW/Audi guy and I know those engines can go for 200k + if taken care of, but how long do these engines typically last? Also, what problems should I be looking for since it has high mileage, anything that usually goes wrong with this model? Thanks in advance!

There are basically no aftermarket performance bolt on upgrades other than; install an X pipe and new performance mufflers on your exhaust system and a cold air intake system. Both of these options will give you a true HP increase. I have just gotten the only turbo kit available for the LS and it is awesome. If you would like more info contact me; my email is in my profile

When coming to a stop or sitting still my 2001 Lincoln LS stalls. It starts right back up, but if I am not giving it gas it stalls. The check engine light is on. The intake gaskets have been replaced as well as the bypass valve and gasket. The DPFE sensor has been replaced and induction service completed. Fuel filter replaced. What else can be done - please help.

Wow, it sounds like the mechanics worked you over like they did me and a lot of other people. If you have a V6, I'm 90% certain that it's the $3.00 hose on the PCV valve. It sits in the middle of the engine and eventually melts a hole in it. You have to go through a lot of work to get to it, so they'll still charge a whole lot of money to replace it. If you want to go at it yourself or for more information, let me know and I can email you pictures that I took of the entire repair and of the little hose.

I have 2001 LS, at around 40,000 km the engine light would come when the engine was cold and would run rough during idle. After warming up it ran better but the engine light would stay on. Turned out to be a sticky valve, one head (V8) had to be replaced.
  • helpplzhelpplz Member Posts: 3
Yes, I do have a V6 and would appreciate it very much if you would email any information I can use to get this problem resolved.

    Thanks!

Thats funny I am having the same problem too. It'll normally stall if I wait at a stop light, stop sign or just sit somewhere too long. If at all possible can you send the same information. Thanks it will be very appreciated.
  • helpplzhelpplz Member Posts: 3
According to my mechanic, he would have noticed a hole in a PCV valve hose. He believes there may be a crack in the manifold, but does not have the equipment at this time to check. If you have your car checked for this problem anytime soon, please let me know what you find out. My mechanic hopes to have the equipment to check it out in a couple of weeks............Thanks!

Whats happening fellow Ls owners. Here's the deal, I'm replacing all ignition coils on my 2000 Lincoln Ls V6 ( 124,000 miles). Cylinder 2( under manifold) has died and 4,5 &6 are failing, so I think it's wise to replace 1&3 while intake manifold is off. My car losing power and rough idling. This diagnosis was done at Lincoln dealership and their cost for them $92 each but are willing to go $62 each upon installation. Although, I've priced them at $42 each online at "directfordparts.com". Has anyone used this site or familiar with it. If I get them from there I will simply have them installed at Precision Tune. I'm also experiencing slight valve cover gasket leakage. I think it's wise to get that done as well and is this the same as intake gasket? What else can be changed why the intake manifold is off, pcv valve maybe? Should I use original Ford gaskets or these other types that I hear are better than OEM and wont leak ever again. I think FEL-PRO is one I've heard off.
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
Can't help with the gaskets but I'd check with Team Ford in Las Vegas for parts - specifically Bill Jenkins. Genuine Ford parts at low prices and he's trustworthy - I know a lot of LS owners and others (including me) who have bought parts from him.

I've been looking at an '02 Lincoln LS with 55K miles and an '02 Acura TL Type S with 75K miles both from Carmax, and both for $15K. I just wanted to see how everyone's experience has been so far with their TLs.

I was excited about the TL at first, but not so much anymore after reading Edmunds' long-term test (http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/LongTerm/articleId=44682#9). Granted, it was a 2000, and the one I'm looking at is a 2002, but weren't they all first-gen LSes? Also, the user reviews I've read have either been great of absolutely horrible, so I don't know... I haven't read anything nearly as bad about the TL as I have about the LS...

    Hi,
try replacing the fuel pump relay. I had stalling problems with my 2000LS V8 and the relay turned out to be the issue.

Three weeks ago I had my dealer do a tune-up before heading south to vacation. A few days later the engine light came on. Followed the instructions in my owners manual. After establishing it was not a fuel quality or fuel cap issue took the car back to the dealer. They ran diagnostics & here the correction comments from my invoice "traced codes P0171 removed intake replaced vacuum tube to PCV valve reinstalled intake cleared codes retested fine". $600 later & 600 miles along the trip south the engine light comes on and stays on. I called the dealer who was surprised at the reoccurrence but indicated the car was safe to drive. We have continued another 600 miles to our destination & am reluctant to go to a dealer here.

Have you experienced the engine light staying on when there does not appear to be an apparent problem? Thanks for any insight.

I purchased an 02 LS with 35K on it about 8 months ago. Over the past few months I have noticed a whining noise from the rear of the car at highway speeds. Has anyone encountered this problem. I have been told it could be the tires, but can't tell for sure.

    Thank you,

    Russell
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
Is it constant or only at certain speeds/rpm? Could be the tires or a wheel bearing.

Differential going bad or in need of better lube possibly :confuse:

Well I dropped of my car at the ford dealer friday Feb.1st ( not lincoln) and had all valve covers replaced, all plugs and coils replaced, egr cleaned and fuel filter replaced. Got it back tuesday Feb.5 and the car runs like new but something happened today. The check engine light came on and autozone retrieved a P0420 code ( Catalyst efficiency low bank one 1 ). Shortly after that the temperature gauge started to rise a little and settle back to mid level ( intermittently). Inspite of all this the car is still running like new with no performance hinderance at all. I'm heading back to the dealer tomorrow to see whats going on. What do you all make of that.
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
Could just be a bad 02 sensor, but if it was running rough before you could have damaged the catalytic converter.

    Hi Group,

I just recently had a small leak on one of the transmission hoses going to the cooler in front of the car, it was a slightly loose hose clamp. That is fixed now, but kind of worried about the transmission fluid level in the car. The leak wasn't big at all, but still wondering if I shouldn't check the level. And with it being an enclosed transmission like it is, I was wonder if anyone had some steps in checking the oil level? Steps in changing the oil?

Would like to do the work myself as I have a shop setup for minor auto work.

    Thanks for any information!

well i dont know anything about the noise your having troubles with but i have experienced a loud cooling fan also. my 02 lincoln ls would overheat and then the fan would speed up and did sound like a tornado alarm! haha. my dealer said it was the cooling fan motor so i replaced it and havent heard it speed up since which was about 4 months ago.
I too have been fed up with my lincoln ls. thank god, i have extended warrenty which has covered most of the problems but havent saved up enough to fix the other 2 problems which is my traction control and my air bag module has to be replaced which will cost hundreds of dollars. I wish i never bought this car! Lincoln should be ashamed of it!

Anywho, i hope you can get your problems resolved with out having to spend alot of money. ;)

    Hello everybody

I am new to these forums so please excuse me. The story is a bit long but it explains everything.

    I bought a 2000 Lincoln LS V8 @ 110,000 miles for about $8,000 dollars three weeks ago.
I have always wanted one of these. Car test drove great, but of course the dealership would only let me drive it around a one half mile circle.
When I brought it home I noticed a Scratching/Grinding Type noise coming from
underneath the car, when I was drooling over the engine. I lifted the front end of it up with a forklift at my job to examine the noise. It sounded like it was coming directly from the circular Torque Converter Enclosure. I took the car to AAMCO
TRANSMISSION The said that the pump was mis-alligned and it needed to be replaced as well as the torque converter. The dealership offered to pay all expenses
if I took it to their transmission shop. Of course I did. He told me that the guy at AAMCO was correct in his assumtion and would get right on it. A week passed
and I went to pick up the car. STILL MAKING THE NOISE!!!! He told me that it had a break in period so drive it over the weekend and bring it back if it is still noisy.
OF COURSE it was so I brought it back for a second run. Another week passed, before he called me and said that he pulled the transmission off and it was still making the noise so it could not be what he fixed. He sent me to another mechanic to get the pumps "Dummy Shaft" looked at. To sum it up the next place said the car had no dummy shaft and they could not figure out where it was coming from. I was getting impatient so I took the dang thing to Lincoln. The said it was the "Front Trans Pump" Wanted to replace the whole thing for $3,500 Bucks. Of course this confused me because the other place had supposedly fixed that problem. I called the dealership once again and was sent to "their" engine specialist.
Two days later they called and said they found the problem, It was the POWER STEERING PUMP. A bearing had gone bad needed to replace pump. Another $800 Dollars. I get the damn car back a few days later, pump looks new, SAME DAMN NOISE!!!!!! They said "it was the nature of the beast" something about air in the hydrolics and that there was nothing wrong with it. I feel if it's making a grinding/scrathing noise there is something freaking wrong with it. I dont want to call the dealership I got it from again because im sure their fed up with me, but I cant afford for Lincoln to fix it. Lincoln made me nervouse because they said it was what was already supposedly fixed. I absolutly don't know what to do. Any advise or help would be so greatly appriciated. I am near the point of selling this car for the $5,000 I owe on it and writing off the $3,000 I already spent. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Oh!, and the cooling fan sounds like a tornado alarm, LOUD!
  • adamslsadamsls Member Posts: 6
yeah! it should be called the Lincoln POS, anyways, did you get you motor replaced at dealership and how much did it cost you if you don't mind me asking?
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
It's not quite fair to blame Lincoln because you had an incompetent mechanic. These cars are somewhat unique (especially the hydraulic cooling fan) so I highly recommend taking it to another Lincoln dealer that can properly diagnose and repair it. I doubt the tranny needs to be replaced if it's shifting ok. If the fan is making noises and/or not running right then it definitely needs to be replaced.

Never use a forklift to jack up the car - get a set of ramps or use a floor jack in the designated areas underneath the doors only. Don't jack or lift it by the suspension or differential. And don't take it to AAMCO.
  • 02linc02linc Member Posts: 11
yea I took it to a dealership. they said that the motor was reading a low output which made it overheat then it would run like crazy to try and cool it down..weird. Your going to hate this but the total cost came to $690.00...i know it sucks...i used to think this car was "unique" until i bought it and then looked at these forums and saw how MANY people have the SAME problem! Lincoln POS would be a PERFECT name for it and i totally blame Lincoln for all the problems! There is no way i will ever buy another Lincoln after having this car and im shur there are lots of people who think the same which is why lincoln should have recalled the parts that so many people are having troubles with. UH DUUUH!!!

I have a 2000 V8 LS with 107K miles. IT has recently started to have a warning bell that goes off shortly after it starts. The bell rings 5X for 4 cycles.
    Any ideas??????????
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
Is it more of a chime or a beep? What are the exact conditions that cause it (moving/stopped/speed?, in P/R/D)? Does it stop after 4 cycles? Does it always do it? Any message on the message center or warning lights?

The only thing that I can remember that does something like that is if the instrument cluster is replaced without using the proper procedure which includes downloading info from the old cluster (to prevent odometer tampering), but I don't remember the details.
  • 02linc02linc Member Posts: 11
yea either what akirby said or i remember reading that someone was having troubles with their airbag light that kept coming on and they didnt want to fix it so they took out the bulb for that light so he didnt have to see it flash but after he did that he was having the constant chimes or beeps like your having so i would suggest having a dealer run a diagnostic in case something is wrong but the light that warns you is out maybe?? GOOD LUCK!
  • aerodynblueaerodynblue Member Posts: 2
    Thanks for the reply...
It is a chime. It happens in any condition, sitting. driving, when ever. It will stop after 4 cycles. It always does it. It normally happens after staring the car. When it is cold when it's warm. I have also noted it will do it again after driving it after about 45 minutes of driving. All gauges are reading normal. Help!!!!!
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
It isn't the instrument cluster - that beeps in reverse and over 70 mph. I think the dealer will have to look this one up.

My wife I mean. She got rear-ended in our 2001 LS two weeks ago. Nothing serious, but its in the shop now to be repaired and painted. They loaned her a V6 Honda Accord, previous model, not a 2008. She's been commuting in it all week. Neither of us had previously spent any time behind the wheel of an Accord. Now, after I drove it yesterday, we both have. It's a nice car - bigger than the LS inside, about the same outside. Has a nice peppy V6 and the interior is well done. It's missing a couple of LS features like seat memory but basically they're pretty similar.
So the $64,000 question I put to my wife yesterday - "How do u like this Honda? Should we sell the LS and get one?" She says "NO way. I cant wait to get the LS back." "Why?" I say. "Because this Honda practically makes me seasick in comparison. The LS is so tight, handles so well and yet rides nice. I feel confident in the LS. PLUS, I love the 5-speed in the LS. I hate this automatic. I cant control the car the way I want to." - Now, u see why I love this woman? :)
My comments are along the same lines. I'd add that the Honda ride is kinda 'floaty' and I HATED the little bit of torque steer it had. I don't think I'll waste any time trying to sell the Mrs on a new FWD automatic MKS either.
  • brucelincbrucelinc Member Posts: 815
Sorry to hear about the damage to the LS. It is probably a good thing your wife didn't get a 2008 V6 manual Accord for a loaner. She might have wanted one of those!

Seriously, the LS is still a tough act to follow. They have their flaws, for sure, but the ride/handling balance is still about as good as it gets, IMO.

I have an '00 LS that needs a clutch plate (XR8Z7550-AB). The shop ordered one thru the FLM dealer who had to get it from a vendor. The part was to be shipped overnight and arrive last Wed but has not. Anyone have any insight into this? Despite the rarity of the vehicle, parts were supposed to be available, and the other parts of the clutch assembly have arrived.
  • jeyhoejeyhoe Member Posts: 490
No info but the parts guy @ FLM must have some idea. Backorder? As u know these are rare birds (a total of appx 1600 5 speed LSes were built) but the parts are out there and it will come. Where are you and how many miles on your LS?
  • ethyl1ethyl1 Member Posts: 12
I've known my clutch was going since 6 mos ago and the shop ordered these parts then. Even so, FLM tells my mechanic that there may be a 6 mo backorder. I'm in Frankfort, KY, and the car just turned over 100,000.
  • jeyhoejeyhoe Member Posts: 490
You're tellin me it's taking a year to get a clutch plate? A YEAR??
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
Try Bill Jenkins at Team Ford in Las Vegas. If the parts are available, he'll get them.

Since that's a standard getrag tranny you may be able to get parts outside of Ford.
  • ethyl1ethyl1 Member Posts: 12
What I've been told is that FoMoCo quit making the parts and handed the task off to vendors. Now the vendors have quit making them. The only part I need is the clutch plate. Does anyone know know if this clutch plate matches any other within the Getrag family?
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
You could also check with Jaguar - I think (but can't guarantee) that the S-type 3.0L used the same tranny.
  • ethyl1ethyl1 Member Posts: 12
I had the mechanic check, and the Jaguar part # is different and the installation takes longer. Waiting to hear from Bill Jenkins.
  • ethyl1ethyl1 Member Posts: 12
I meant clutch disk, not clutch plate. In the realm of parts accessibility I doubt if that makes much difference.
  • jeyhoejeyhoe Member Posts: 490
"I meant clutch disk, not clutch plate. In the realm of parts accessibility I doubt if that makes much difference."

Well, in the realm of part identification it makes a big difference. I've been trying to locate a clutch plate, now I gotta call and change to disk?

I'm wondering how your car is running since you say you knew the clutch was failing about a year ago?
  • ethyl1ethyl1 Member Posts: 12
Heyjoe, thanks for your help. The clutch began to slip this summer, and I ordered all the parts. All arrived in a timely fashion except the clutch disk. As time wore on the clutch quit slipping and I failed to follow up w the mechanic about the missing clutch disk. We were returning fom Cleveland last week, and I smelled the clutch burning. My better half put the car in 4th and we limped straight to the shop. We were communicating w the mechanic in transit, and he discovered that the Ford dealer had been using the wrong number for the clutch disk. We assumed that's why it hadn't arrived. Using the correct number was supposed to produce the clutch disk the next day, but we've learned the next production run will not be finished 'til June. That was the beginning of my current saga. I apolgize for the wrong part id.
  • jeyhoejeyhoe Member Posts: 490
I did call my SR at my LM dealer yesterday and asked about availibility of the clutch plate, after knocking on wood since I have one of those as well. He hasn't gotten back yet. I will call him this AM, and reask the question for the clutch disk. Is that part number you posted correct?
