Both relationships are the most important, but for different reasons. The topic has been immergation and Illegal immergation. On these issues Mexico is the most important. The US, and Canada is known for the last 180 years as having the best relationship of any two countries in the world. Besides You build the 300M's that says it all.

Did Chrysler make the TB as it did for any particular reason? In other words, by modifying the TB, are we going to regret it down the road? Can it void the warranty?

i think otto deserves a round of applause or beer or something, for how much he helps us out around here. it must be hard being the guy that everyone turns to with questions, and he does it so well!!

well guys, im taking it all out again today, but im going to have a hard time with the tb, beings that i dont know how to "Remove throttle cable bracket", "Remove throttle body support bracket from the bottom of the throttle body",or "Remove throttle cable and speed control cables from throttle arm". then, im going to ATTEMPT to get down and dirty with the dremel tool, knowing full well if i mess things up ill be kickin my own [non-permissible content removed]. but, how else do you learn?

Got my left rear window motor replaced this morning. Chatted with my sales guy. He said they only sell 2 or 3 new Ms a month now, but can't keep used '99s on the lot for $18K to $20K.

They know nothing yet about the Special, but were quite interested in the info I had. Once again, the tail wagging the dog!

The 1970 Chevy SS 454 had a trick fresh air intake hatch that would pop open at full throttle. The trick was there was a high pressure area that built up at the base of the windshield/cowling area. The flap opening faced to the rear. Actually this is where air vents for many cars were located pre-1956. You could manually open and close them. Maybe someone who is mechanically inclined could fabricate a duct with a straight shot into the TB from the black grill where the wipers are. This would provide a short path and cool air. I don't know if there would be room for an adequate filter. This may sound crazy, but so is the convoluted stock intake path.

I used a Dremel tool to grind down the TB to 69mm. I used sanding disks, then use rubber abrasive disk to smooth, then a polishing disk to give it that smooth factory look. I you have a drill press attachment to keep the dremil at 90 degrees will make the job much easer. It leaves the hands free to hold and control the TB. I figured I did not want to go the extra 2mm, because of the shaft walls would be too thin. I figured with engine vibration I wanted a little more metal.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
The cowel intake doesn't work too well with cab forward (less pressure build up in that area) because of the slope of the glass.
  • phases78phases78 Member Posts: 471
will grinding the TB void it? that was a good question. hell i probably already did cuttin out part of the plenum
  • ottowrkrottowrkr Member Posts: 778
I wil take the beer!!! If you are going to remove the TB just remove the cables ,it is quite easy. with one hand fully open the throttle plate and hold it open ,now you will see that the two cables have no tension on them. if you look at the side of the curved piece that the cables are attached to you will see that there is a hole that the ends of the cable slid into . just slid the first cable out and do the same foer the second cable. hope this helps!!!!

I talked a little with the service guy about TB mods. He said Neon owners are bolting on Caravan throttle bodies left and right. Vroom, vroom!

I'm normally a pretty conservative driver, especially given what fun I can have with Big Red, but today was just one of those days. I don't know what got into me (maybe it's my new diet...dropped 5 lbs first week!), but all morning I've been a wild man. At the 4-way intersection by my house there was a lot of water due to sprinkler run-off. Well, as I pulled out and made a left turn I did a 4 wheel power slide for about 30 feet with my wheels and stereo screaming at the top of their lungs. When I finally hit dry pavement I left a nice long patch of Michelin rubber as I gathered up the rear end behind me and took off up the hill like a scalded cat. Boy this M loves 68 degrees. I drove like this all over town for about 30 minutes before coming home, and since then I've been sitting here with a grin on my face.

Later guys...I'm heading to the store, and maybe some other errands. bwahahahaha!

    Scott,

The replacement TB was about $186 from oemcarparts.com.

I paid $90 for the TB bore job and plate. I think the plate was about $20-25.

GM announced today that they will discontinue the Oldsmobile line in 2004, with the Aurora and Intrigue being discontinued before that. It's the oldest car brand in America, and only second to Daimler worldwide.

    Oldsmobiles mostly suck.

I saw a loss leader ad in the paper this morning for the dealer I bought my wife's 2001M from in April...base with full size spare. I paid $24,888 (MRSP $30,545). Today's ad is the lowest price I have seen for a new 2001...$23,888 (same MRSP)!

BTW, it has the first upgrade stereo for the 2002 model... :)

My wife was driving my M home today, exceeding the speed limit (how hard it is not to do that in an M!). She noticed some guy tailgating her and says her usual reaction to that is to speed up. Just then the radar detector (Bel 980) went off at high alert, so she changed lanes instead and slowed down. Tailgater got pulled over by the cop. Right on!
  • traleytraley Member Posts: 64
That's the way to do it. Tell your wife I said "Yes!"

I am not sure I like the black bottom
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
I am already a bit late with 33K on the odometer, and I don't feel like going to the dealer to do the 30K maintenance, because most of the dealers around here are out of the way. Does anyone knoe whether a regular shop would know how to do this maintenance (adjust drive belt, change differenctial fluid)?
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
butted in an typed the "c" in the "differential"

looks like an audi...i like teh ground effects. not black..but i'll buy those and paint the color of car. and the mirrors....turn signal....yah!
  • 99_300m_ric_va99_300m_ric_va Member Posts: 377
Man those pics are a disappointment to me. I too do not like the black ground effects. The mirrors are cool.

If I were in charge (disturbing thought huh?), I would've released the new models for 2002, instead of making silly minute changes while the competition catches up (some might say passes by). With sales down so low, the new models would probably revive things a bit. Oh well, we'll just have to wait. I can't imagine what they're waiting for. 2004 just doesn't make sense.

In the meantime, still enjoying my 1999 more than ever. :)
  • ottowrkrottowrkr Member Posts: 778
The bottom paint will be grey not black.Seeing the car in person will change your mind ,sure no more power but the car does look good. Yes you better believe they are waiting for 2004 ,you will not see any changes to the M till the new N comes out .

Sound for the Phoenix meet. Is that day good for everyone? So far 4 possibles (at least as good and Monterey) Let me know at 300M@uswestmail.net
    Thanks, Michael

didn't keep the price the same and put in the dual exhaust, change the intake and put the 2.7 gears into the car along with 18"wheels and not cheapening the options like the radios, and the like for the 2002 models.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Does it get down into the 90s in November in Phoenix? ;) Right now 11/3 works for me. I think Phoenix is only 4-5 hours from me....maybe 3 lol

with a set of 255/35zr20's tires...they DO NOT rub. they clear the strut with flying colors. no problems at all. and what is all this talk about harsh ride? herm did u notice it? guys in all honestly i've been rode stock tires for 10k, 245/45zr17 nitto 555's for 20k, didn't feel any different except MUCH better handling, not i got falken (those mother falken tires) fk 451's 255/35zr20....AND I DON'T FEEL A DIFFERENT RIDE!! beside superior handling, the end hits out a little but a 2" drop in the rear will help that. 35 series tire, still feels smooth as a baby's booty to me fellas....
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
really good news....TOKICO is making struts for the 300. i met up with some guys in baltimore, run a place called M&G customs....turbo'd mazda protege in super street...guy works there...turbo chrysler cirrus in super street..guy works there...10 second r33 skyline in scc...guy works there...the owners has a 9 second viper....not too shabby. all of them have custom made tokico struts. for the rigth amount of money tokico will do it and i just put down the right amount of money. on my credit card to be exact...;)

I think it was some time ago that your car got crunched but I haven't heard much in the way of what has been done to it since then. Is it all fixed? Have you installed the new clear taillights? What about the Intrax springs? I know you put them on, but how much did the ride change? Now, you are talking about the 20's you put on but which ones did you get?

Sorry for all the questions, I just thought some people on this board like me might want to know. Take some new pics and post them for us to see!!

Those Falkens are great looking tires aren't they, glad they'll work for you. From a pure steering, traction and control perspective, I liked my ZE-502s, but the stiffer ride, road noise level and steering shimmy was not what I was looking for.

Like I said, I'm learning that tire choice is certainly a very personal choice based on a number of different driver and driving factors.

Bet those 255/35-20's help to fill the wheel openings.

Give me a list of dates (Saturday) you can possibly make it from Oct 20th to Nov 17th. There is going to be a hotrod and custom car show at Westworld Nov 17, 18th. Tickets cost $12, for those that are interested. Otherwise we could meet at a local park.
Dubbed, your mother doesn't like 300M's ?:)?:)? We will try to work around it. Would like to have you there too.
Sdmike yes it will most likely be in the 70's to mid 80's.

a 65 shelby cobra, blue with white racing stripes and the chrome roll bar over the drivers seat. i don't want to hear, "he must not of know it was a race" his tag frame read 65 cobra keep up if you can. i was behind him at the light and said hmmm lets just see how far he can get. i was glued to him, i was still in second, went around him and didn't let off, hit third somewhere above 80 and i was doing 95 before i got the jail flashbacks, then i let off he was still coming. he starts hitting it the gas doing a little chug, i'm like it's too late now baldy, with the white tank top and tatoo. he wouldn't even look over, bet he'll think twice before he plays that wack with an m again. :~) this gal in a yellow cougar got excited and wanted to play too so i let her get ahead and when we pulled up to the light i pulled up beside her and rolled down the window, gave her a wink and told her she was a good driver. by the time i could roll the window back up she beat me off the line, my lane ended so she spanked me. 1 for 2 not bad.

Did you get to race Don Garrlett too, and win?????? :) After all he used to do 6's of course that was Quarter mile not 0-60.
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
lookin at that picture just makes it worse....i would NOT wanna race that thang....

the word "race" is used too loosely
  • guesswho1guesswho1 Member Posts: 209
the shelby side exhaust is just a scare tactic. may as well have been a grand am, i spanked him so bad. wonder how much he paid for that pos.
  • guesswho1guesswho1 Member Posts: 209
haven't raced don garlett but i have taken his racing course!
  • mrl859mrl859 Member Posts: 168
If you raced a car that looked like that, it must have been either a replica based on a Geo Metro chassis/engine, or 4 or more cylinders were misfiring. Whether it was a small or big block, there is somewhere between very little and no chance a 300M is even worthy of the gas required to race.
  • guesswho1guesswho1 Member Posts: 209
DOH! ya think? no it was the real deal, i think it was that WWF wrestler Goldberg that lives down here? yeah that's who it was Goldberg. i spanked Goldberg's Ace!
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
    You spanked another mustang! :)

In the early 60's Shelby produced 3 different cobras, the 289, 260 and 427. The one most replicated is the gorgeous blue 427. The original 427 produced between 425 and 520 horsepower driving a car that weighed about a ton. The 0-60 was about 5 seconds or less. Most 427 replicas use mustangs as the donor car...usually taking the chasis and drive train from the stang. They usually drop a big block in it, but someone must have gotten lazy on the one down your way and used the Ford V6 in it. :)

However, your record against mustangs is spotless! Whoohoo! ;)
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
The guy who built it must have not built it well, or there was something wrong with it. I have a friend who has a Shelby kit car, same colors, looks the same as the pic. He dropped some big block in it, with a 6 speed. The thing will KILL most any thing on the road in 0-60, 0-100, 1/4 mile, & braking. He took it to some track, 1/4 mile was like 8. somthing seconds. He's pushing 600HP. Would spank my , or any 300M in a heartbeat. Too bad he doesn't drive it.

bill dixon's car show in Ft. Ashby, WV. this white lamborghini pulls up, everyones awwing and oooing...he wants to race everyone. my friend took him in his crx. and you know why? it was a 1980's pontiac FIERO with a 350 block in it, and a $9000 body kit. it still looked cool, diablo doors and everything. but damn that thing was slow....i can take my friends crx...so i can take a lamborghini right?
