That may or may not be a good price for a year old car, (2 years old in just 2 months). I would respectfully remind the dealer of that fact. The $1,750 incentive is available on ALL Santa Fe's, even 2005's. (Check the Hyundai web-site - www.hyundaiusa.com - I'm not very satisfied with the way Hyundai in doing business in this area. I tried to get an honest price for a 2005 Santa Fe that was equipped about the same as yours. My potential buying experience was a disaster and I couldn't wait to get out of there. That was just 2 weekends ago. This past weekend I went to another Dealership (Not Hyundai). Wow , what a difference. Great car, Fair price, Super incentives and Financing. Everything fully explained and no hassels. I think you might be able to guess where I purchased my new car. Hyundai had there chance to get me as a customer and they blew it!!!!
As to the Red Color - The paint on the Hyundai's is NOT noted for quality - However I'm from the old school and believe that the clear coat finishes are not a reason to discontinue caring for the paint with a good quality wax. I wax my cars twice a year and they don't fade and normal cleaning is much easier. Just my thoughts.

Also any info on whether the Hyundai Dealers are more flexible than Toyo Dealers would be appreciated.
Thanks for the input, everyone the forums is always so helpful!
I am a newbie and I would like to say hello to everyone.
I just purchased yesterday a 2005 SF GLS 2.7L FWD with sunroof and crossrails for $19,400 OTD w/ 1yr free oil changes. I have been researching these cars and dealers for a couple of weeks. I have been to some dealerships that seem to have more interest in bad mouthing the other dealerships than selling me a car which was kind of upsetting. Like everyone else, I did some research on new car salesman tricks and it is amazing but there was this one dealership on Long Island that tried to do EVERYTHING on the list. I was appalled. I almost gave up on Hyundai altogether. Yesterday, I took a ride to Huntington Hyundai- it could not have been more like night and day. Even though Huntington Hyundai is further away from me, the level of professionalism compared to the other dealership was staggering. I presented my fair price and within an hour, I owned a new car- happily. I would recommend anyone that can get to this dealership at least give them a chance when looking for a new car. If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
I'm looking at a 2005 AWD 3.5L 6cyl LX model. I've gotten a few price quotes from local Pittsburgh area dealers. The MRSP of the vehicle I'm looking at is $27,724. The price quotes I got were $23,449, $24.649 & 24,449 (price includes $2000.00 rebate). These amounts do not include a trade in. Do these sound like good amounts or should they be lower since it's the 2005 model clearance?
info appreciated.
The price of 20, 505 was a little under the TMV price on Edmunds, but over the invoice listed price on Edmunds. I did a lot of research and new what I wanted and how much I was willing to pay. I was not going to pay any more than 20, 600 starting price (really 20,500(but with the mud guards already installed I added that cost in) if I didn't get my price I was going to walk out.
I started visiting dealerships last Feb. to get a feel of the dealership and car salesman I would like to deal with. Then I went in and let them know what I know and they gave me what I wanted. I went to Thompson Hyundai in Maryland and was very happy with the sale.
I then read this post and submitted an email which I got a quote back for a 2005 GLS 3.5 2WD Santa Fe option 5 for $19,456 no loyalty bonus just the $2,000 "summer end clearance" in case anyone is going to ask. I went to the dealer that gave me this quote but they only had merlot and red, two colors which neither I wanted, they told me they could get my color and I gave him until the end of the week. I took this quote to a few dealers some said no way but then found one that said yeah sure we can match that. Needless to say I am a happy camper
I'll add this to the mix: Bought a new 2005 Santa Fe 3.5 2wd with roof cross rails, cargo pad and $895 paint and upholstery protections for $19,500 yesterday from Classic in Round Rock, TX. MSRP was $23,895, so savings was almost $4,400. Dealer wasn't real happy coming down that far, so I guess it was a good deal for me. Have driven it for over an hour now, and no problems yet
New 2005 Santa Fe 2.7 2WD GLS.
Nothing added - bare bones
$17923 w/o tax and tags
MSRP being $22244
Getting std $2k rebate and College Grad (wife graduated grad school this year)
Does this sound decent or should I push harder? On plus side they are taking my 85 Chrysler 5th Ave so a few hundred for that will be icing. Thanks everyone for your feedback! We will jump on this deal on Monday if its good.
The only thing I really want to get is the 10 year bumper to bumper warranty so we wont have to worry about it for a long long time. Hopefully they can give me good deal on that too - any ideas on good prices for that? I was thinking $750 - $850.
Thanks all!
When I negotiated my mom's Elantra GT back in 2001 I asked for $850 and the guy jumped on it. So I always felt that I could have gotten better, but of course prices have gone up since then.
We had to get the mud guards (I prefer them anyway) and luggage rack cross bars on ou vehicle, but they charged us invoice price. Price before tax and tags was $18101 for a GLS 2.7L FWD in Black. Didnt get great trade on my car, but wasnt expecting much either.
To get the College discount we had to use the Hyundai financing (7.2%) but with the extra money they gave us, it was still cheaper than any other places we found.
We got there late so they didnt have the remote-fobs for us when we left (only sales guy and finance guy remaining at 10:30 pm). Allegedly will be sent out to us, which is fine since I stupidly left my EZPass gizmo in my trade-in car.
I'll fish around in a little bit and see if anyone comes up with a better offer.
Next step is researching that Invisible Car Bra that 3M makes. I'd hate to see this beautiful paint get all scratched and dinged, especially with winter (road salt) coming.
Thanks all for your input.
I didn't buy from there I got a 2005 demo for about $2000 less, plus Downingtown is a good 90 minute drive for me to go back for the warranty work.
I'm happy with my purchase and hope you are.
Good luck.
danf1 - I take it you are employed by a Hyundai dealer??? If so, what are the details on this? What does it typically cost, and what does it / doesn't it cover?
Just to clarify about my experience with Colonial. The one time I called I got a sales guy - lets just say Joe (NOT his real name). Asked him some 'tough questions' about ad in paper and what rebates were covered. He said he would get back to me and never did. Sales manager called later and I told him I was ready to buy but never got info from Joe. He said he would call me back. TOP sales manager calls me back and gives me the deal I mentioned in earlier post. Super nice guy, easy sell - no hard pushing. I agree to come in and speak to him.
I go this past Monday night and tell a sales guy at front that I'm looking to talk to top sales manager. He asks my name, and it turns out to be Joe that I'm talking to - yay. I talk to top sales manager and he directs me back to Joe (one of his 'senior guys' even though the guy admitted to me on phone he was new - oh well). In fact Joe was so new that he thought the Santa fe still had manual transmission options. I saw him take the top sales manager aside and explain he had spoken to me before so I guess thats how I got him.
Purchase goes smoothly.
What I DIDNT get was: the big schmooze about all that the car offers, the tour of the engine and safety devices, ANY offers of a drink during my whole time there (3+ hours, that was shocking), any explanation how the 20/200 warranty works, any business cards in my owner's manual, any business cards handed to me. Also my wife was there with 2 year old and newborn. No one told us about the play area until we walked past it to go to financing at end of night (10:30pm).
Our other car is a Saturn, and the people and environment there are night and day. But I wanted a Santa Fe, not the Vue. Oh well. I'm buying the car, not the fanfare.
I would still recommend Colonial if you arent expecting much. You may get different experience with different people. It was my first ever new car purchase so I was kinda bummed they didnt schmooze me more, but I did negotiate everything ahead of time so maybe that threw the guy off. I would be curious to hear any dealings with their service department.
That's the way to go these days. I will typically negotiate everything via phone or email ahead of time, then request the salesman fax final #s to me before I go in for the test drive (along with his signature). If you are paying cash, or already have financing in place you can be in and out in less than an hour.
After I had a 4hr plus buying experience with my very first new car purchase, I decided I would never try to do the test drive, negotiations, and final paperwork all in 1 trip. The sad thing is that I don't consider myself to be a "grinder". I have no problem with a dealer making a profit. I typically just offer what I consider to be a fair price, and then let the dealer take it or leave it.
I could never bring myself to do test drives ahead of time unless I was comitted to buying a car. I had a buddy who was a car salesman for short period of time. If he so much as talked to someone, he was expected to sell them a car. No way I want to put a guy through that.
I have no idea this deal is good or bad deal.
Does somebody have some opinions about my deal.
And the mileage is 40 miles of the car.
Is it normal and the dealer put document fee $250.
So in the end I paid $22,400 (then I had a trade in and down payment) so I financed for less.
I could not find any "deal" on sante fe's that were not black or blue.
So tell them EXACTLY what you have and then find out what YOUR final cost will be.
Also, Consumer Reports reports tip-ups on their rollover tests. Anyone hear anything on it?
Thanks.
