2013 and Earlier - Hyundai Santa Fe Prices Paid and Buying Experience

    Deb:

That may or may not be a good price for a year old car, (2 years old in just 2 months). I would respectfully remind the dealer of that fact. The $1,750 incentive is available on ALL Santa Fe's, even 2005's. (Check the Hyundai web-site - www.hyundaiusa.com - I'm not very satisfied with the way Hyundai in doing business in this area. I tried to get an honest price for a 2005 Santa Fe that was equipped about the same as yours. My potential buying experience was a disaster and I couldn't wait to get out of there. That was just 2 weekends ago. This past weekend I went to another Dealership (Not Hyundai). Wow , what a difference. Great car, Fair price, Super incentives and Financing. Everything fully explained and no hassels. I think you might be able to guess where I purchased my new car. Hyundai had there chance to get me as a customer and they blew it!!!!

As to the Red Color - The paint on the Hyundai's is NOT noted for quality - However I'm from the old school and believe that the clear coat finishes are not a reason to discontinue caring for the paint with a good quality wax. I wax my cars twice a year and they don't fade and normal cleaning is much easier. Just my thoughts. :)

There is no down payment required so long as you are financing less that 125% of invoice.

I just bought a 2005 Santa Fe LX FWD with roof rails and mud guards for $23,904 + TTL. (It would have been $22,404, but I chose the 0.0% financing over the rebate). Love everything about the car so far, especially the Mocha Frost exterior and beige leather interior! :D

I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT THE SANTA FE FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS NOW. I OWN A 2001 SONATA (4-CYL) THAT I REALLY LOVE. PICKED UP MY BAND NEW SANTA FE TODAY, AND GOT WHAT I FEEL WAS A DECENT PRICE. 2005-GLS-FWD-2.7 CYL ENGINE. PRICE WAS $17,229--OUT THE DOOR PRICE $18,600 TAX (7%) TITLE, PLATE, AND ALL FEES. I QUALIFIED FOR THE $1,00 REBATE, PLUS $2,500 OWNER LOYALTY. SOMEHOW, I GOT $5,195 OFF MSRP. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, TRY TO GET THEM TO TAKE THE REBATES OFF OF THE STICKER RATHER THAN THE MSRP GOT THIS AT BOWSER HYUNDAI (NEAR PITTSBURGH). COCHRAN HYUNDAI (ANOTHER LOCAL DEALER) GAVE ME AN OTD PRICE OF $18,800, BUT BOWSER'S IS A LOT CLOSER TO MY HOME. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS SOUNDS LIKE A DECENT DEAL.
  • arnie4arnie4 Member Posts: 10
SO SORRY FOR THE WRONG INFO IN MY LAST FORUM. I MEANT TO SAY, TAKE THE REBATES OFF OF THE INVOICE PRICE, BUT I ACCIDENTIALLY SAID THE STICKER PRICE. ALSO THE REBATES WERE $1;500 AND $2,000 (OWNER LOYALTY. I ALSO WONDERED HOW THEY COULD GIVE ME SO MUCH OFF. DID A LITTLE MATH AND FIGURED OUT THAT ON THEIR BOOKS THE SUV SOLD FOR ABOUT $400-500 OVER INVOICE. ALL OF THE REBATES ARE CHARGED TO THE FACTORY, PLUS THEY GET THE 2% HOLDBACK WHEN THEY SELL THE CAR, PLUS THE KICKBACK FROM THE FINANCE COMPANY, PLUS THE FACT THAT THEY NO LONGER HAVE TO PAY THE INTEREST ON THE LOAN WHEN THEY TOOK DELIVERY OF THE VEHICLES. IF I AM WRONG IN CALCULATING THESE FIGURES, PLEASE CORRECT ME. I AM MORE THAT SATIFIED WITH THE VEHICLE. IT RIDES ALMOST AS SMOOTH AS MY SONATA. I CHECKED OUT SEVERAL OTHER CAR-BASED SUV'S (CRV-RAV-4), BUT THE INPUT FROM OTHER OWNERS AND THE RATINGS IN CONSUMER REPORTS CONVINCED ME TO BUY THE SANTA FE. A CAR-BASED SUV IS SUPPOSED TO BE LESS TROUBLE FREE AFTER 3 YEARS, THAN ALL OTHER TYPE OF VEHICLES. CRASH TESTS ARE GOOD AND THE MILEAGE IS ABOUT THE SAME AS MOST VANS AND OTHER SUV'S. I GOT THE 2.7CYL AND FWD, BECAUSE THIS CUTS OVER 500 LBS. FROM THE WEIGHT. ALSO I READ SOMEWHERE THAT 73% OF SANTA FE'S ARE FWD ONLY.

Got a new 2005 Santa Fe LX 4WD, obsidian black with the standard options package for $23,500 OTD. Love the car, love the deal.
  • dbolgerdbolger Member Posts: 1
I'm about to pull the trigger on the same Santa Fe from Bowser as well. I think I'm getting a similar deal, but I'd love to know the details. I'm getting $2K Dealer rebate + $2K owner loyalty and I believe that brings me down to around $19K. I've got a trade-in for $1.4K + some money down. I'm just trying to figure out if I can bargain down to try to get an OTD of $18.6 before any equity of my own is involved.
  • arnie4arnie4 Member Posts: 10
My MSRP was $22,424 (Roof cross rails only option) $1500 rebate- $2,000 owner loyalty plus $1,700 additional dealer discount. Tell him that you have a quote from Cochran for $18,600 and maybe he will go down to $18, 400. Let me know how it goes. To me, this was not a bad deal.
  • dresskovdresskov Member Posts: 8
Cochran is having an employee price sale. You should contact them to see what they can offer you. These two are the largest dealers in Pittsburgh and love to take each others business.
  • arnie4arnie4 Member Posts: 10
So sorry, I forgot to mention that I had no trade-in, plus I had a $10,000 down payment.

come out to cochran, they will definately do what it takes to get your business.

I have a 2004 Santa Fe 2.7, I am need to get a small trailer to tow a 4 wheeler on and small dirt bike. My question is, do I need to add a Transmission cooler? I was told when I bought it, it had 2 already. Does anyone know the answer to this. I would really rather not call the dealership and sound like a fool.

    :)
  • arnie4arnie4 Member Posts: 10
Just curious if you got your new Santa Fe and what price you paid.
  • dawneedawnee Member Posts: 59
We have looked at Toyo HL but dealers are not too flexible on pricing so we are looking at the Santa Fe and was curious how gas mileage is on LX with 3.5 motor? I know what the specs show but I am interested in actual results from people who drive these on a daily basis.

Also any info on whether the Hyundai Dealers are more flexible than Toyo Dealers would be appreciated.
Thanks for the input, everyone the forums is always so helpful!

    Hello All,
I am a newbie and I would like to say hello to everyone.
I just purchased yesterday a 2005 SF GLS 2.7L FWD with sunroof and crossrails for $19,400 OTD w/ 1yr free oil changes. I have been researching these cars and dealers for a couple of weeks. I have been to some dealerships that seem to have more interest in bad mouthing the other dealerships than selling me a car which was kind of upsetting. Like everyone else, I did some research on new car salesman tricks and it is amazing but there was this one dealership on Long Island that tried to do EVERYTHING on the list. I was appalled. I almost gave up on Hyundai altogether. Yesterday, I took a ride to Huntington Hyundai- it could not have been more like night and day. Even though Huntington Hyundai is further away from me, the level of professionalism compared to the other dealership was staggering. I presented my fair price and within an hour, I owned a new car- happily. I would recommend anyone that can get to this dealership at least give them a chance when looking for a new car. If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

    :confuse:

I'm looking at a 2005 AWD 3.5L 6cyl LX model. I've gotten a few price quotes from local Pittsburgh area dealers. The MRSP of the vehicle I'm looking at is $27,724. The price quotes I got were $23,449, $24.649 & 24,449 (price includes $2000.00 rebate). These amounts do not include a trade in. Do these sound like good amounts or should they be lower since it's the 2005 model clearance?
  • arnie4arnie4 Member Posts: 10
See above post from Arnie-4. I got mine at Bowser. Sorry, unable to say if it's a real good deal or not. Evidentially your 3 dealers are Bowser, Cochran, and Greensburg. Check the previous threads to see if your deal is in the ballpark
  • arnie4arnie4 Member Posts: 10
I have a bit more info that may be of some use to you. If I take the amount off of the sticker price that I paid for my Santa Fe it comes to $5,204 which is 23.2%. My msrp was $22,424 (Roofrails) minus $2,000 owner loyalty, minus $1,500 rebate, minus $1,704 dealer discount= $17,220 selling price. Since your LX is much more expensive than my GLS, try to work the same math (minus the $1,500 rebate) and see what you come up with. Also you may want to visit the dealer on Sunday, and see how many of the LX's they have in stock. Check the dates on the white protective covering on the hood and see when it should be removed. This may give you an idea on how long the vehicles have been there, and maybe he will be willing to come down more on the asking price. If anyone reading this post , may think that my ideas are all wet, plese let me know. We have to help this girl get a decent deal.

Went to dealer this weekend looked and drove both (Tucson/ Santa FE) . since both seem so close in size and features, what would be your thoughts for buying one or the other..
    info appreciated.

I just bought my Moonlit Blue Santa Fe 2.7 Fwd with added mud guards for 20, 505 plus 595 destination charge, equals 21,200-2,000 factory rebate, equals 19,100-trade in for 3,000, equals 16,100 plus tax, tags, and title.

The price of 20, 505 was a little under the TMV price on Edmunds, but over the invoice listed price on Edmunds. I did a lot of research and new what I wanted and how much I was willing to pay. I was not going to pay any more than 20, 600 starting price (really 20,500(but with the mud guards already installed I added that cost in) if I didn't get my price I was going to walk out.

I started visiting dealerships last Feb. to get a feel of the dealership and car salesman I would like to deal with. Then I went in and let them know what I know and they gave me what I wanted. I went to Thompson Hyundai in Maryland and was very happy with the sale.
  • bostonkbostonk Member Posts: 1
I must agree this made life a lot easier. Originally I went in from lot to lot asking for 19,000 but looking to pay about 20,000. One lot the sales lady who coincidentally had been sales person of the month threw me out saying if you could get them that cheap buy me some because thats under my price along with some other choice words. I was in such a hurry to get out of there I thought ok true but no need to get that mean about it.

I then read this post and submitted an email which I got a quote back for a 2005 GLS 3.5 2WD Santa Fe option 5 for $19,456 no loyalty bonus just the $2,000 "summer end clearance" in case anyone is going to ask. I went to the dealer that gave me this quote but they only had merlot and red, two colors which neither I wanted, they told me they could get my color and I gave him until the end of the week. I took this quote to a few dealers some said no way but then found one that said yeah sure we can match that. Needless to say I am a happy camper :D

Thanks to everyone for all the valuable information on this forum.

I'll add this to the mix: Bought a new 2005 Santa Fe 3.5 2wd with roof cross rails, cargo pad and $895 paint and upholstery protections for $19,500 yesterday from Classic in Round Rock, TX. MSRP was $23,895, so savings was almost $4,400. Dealer wasn't real happy coming down that far, so I guess it was a good deal for me. Have driven it for over an hour now, and no problems yet :)
  • LDegrelleLDegrelle Member Posts: 74
Finally getting ready to pull the trigger (after like 4 years of looking - yeesh).

    New 2005 Santa Fe 2.7 2WD GLS.
    Nothing added - bare bones
    $17923 w/o tax and tags

    MSRP being $22244

Getting std $2k rebate and College Grad (wife graduated grad school this year)

Does this sound decent or should I push harder? On plus side they are taking my 85 Chrysler 5th Ave so a few hundred for that will be icing. Thanks everyone for your feedback! We will jump on this deal on Monday if its good.
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
That sounds almost too good to be true. You are buying the car for net cost. Santa fe's are piling up right now and it seems that you found a dealer that really wants to get rid of one.
  • LDegrelleLDegrelle Member Posts: 74
Hooray! I was afraid people were going to tell me to shop around more or start getting other dealers to try and beat that price. This makes it much easier. I will let you folks know how it turns out Monday and if they try and 'trick me' with other hidden costs.

The only thing I really want to get is the 10 year bumper to bumper warranty so we wont have to worry about it for a long long time. Hopefully they can give me good deal on that too - any ideas on good prices for that? I was thinking $750 - $850.

    Thanks all!
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
If you can get the warranty in that range, you've done well. On a front wheel drive Santa Fe retail for the warranty is $1118. I'd be willing to bet that around $850 you can get it.
  • LDegrelleLDegrelle Member Posts: 74
    Thanks.

When I negotiated my mom's Elantra GT back in 2001 I asked for $850 and the guy jumped on it. So I always felt that I could have gotten better, but of course prices have gone up since then.
  • arnie4arnie4 Member Posts: 10
See post from August, 25, 2005 at 7:40 pm for Arnie 4. I got the $2000 rebate, plus the $1500 owner loyalty(2001 Sonata) OTD $18,600. This may give you something to work with. Mine was $17, 229 before taxes, fees, plates
  • LDegrelleLDegrelle Member Posts: 74
Yeah, I couldnt get the owner loyalty piece. I was tempted to go buy a $300 old Hyundai someone weas selling to qualify and then also use that Hyundai as a tradein - but that seems like a lot of work :)
  • LDegrelleLDegrelle Member Posts: 74
We went and test drove the car at Colonial Hyundai, Downingtown PA and it was very nice. As my car was starting to make noises I decided it was time to jump.

We had to get the mud guards (I prefer them anyway) and luggage rack cross bars on ou vehicle, but they charged us invoice price. Price before tax and tags was $18101 for a GLS 2.7L FWD in Black. Didnt get great trade on my car, but wasnt expecting much either.

To get the College discount we had to use the Hyundai financing (7.2%) but with the extra money they gave us, it was still cheaper than any other places we found.

We got there late so they didnt have the remote-fobs for us when we left (only sales guy and finance guy remaining at 10:30 pm). Allegedly will be sent out to us, which is fine since I stupidly left my EZPass gizmo in my trade-in car.
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
You got a great deal. Its good to see that they stood by their original offer. Did you get the extended warranty?
  • LDegrelleLDegrelle Member Posts: 74
I was sorely tempted but lowest they could go was about $960. I didnt think this was a great deal, but I think they wanted to make up their profit elsewhere.

I'll fish around in a little bit and see if anyone comes up with a better offer.

Next step is researching that Invisible Car Bra that 3M makes. I'd hate to see this beautiful paint get all scratched and dinged, especially with winter (road salt) coming.

    Thanks all for your input.
  • ccalhounccalhoun Member Posts: 2
Hello, I was looking at a 2005 Santa Fe at Downingtown also, was offered about the same price. Did you get the 20/200,000 extended warranty also. That was a nice addition to the purchase.
I didn't buy from there I got a 2005 demo for about $2000 less, plus Downingtown is a good 90 minute drive for me to go back for the warranty work.
I'm happy with my purchase and hope you are.
    Good luck.
  • 1racefan1racefan Member Posts: 932
HUH? Hyundai offers such a warranty?

danf1 - I take it you are employed by a Hyundai dealer??? If so, what are the details on this? What does it typically cost, and what does it / doesn't it cover?
  • LDegrelleLDegrelle Member Posts: 74
Thats Colonial Hyundai's 'hook'. They offer a 20 year / 200,000 Warranty on all their Hyundais (drivetrain). I'm assuming (since I didnt really get the 'star treatment') that you have to use their service department to get the oil changes and all. Yes, I did get that warranty (it's free with all Hyundais).

Just to clarify about my experience with Colonial. The one time I called I got a sales guy - lets just say Joe (NOT his real name). Asked him some 'tough questions' about ad in paper and what rebates were covered. He said he would get back to me and never did. Sales manager called later and I told him I was ready to buy but never got info from Joe. He said he would call me back. TOP sales manager calls me back and gives me the deal I mentioned in earlier post. Super nice guy, easy sell - no hard pushing. I agree to come in and speak to him.

I go this past Monday night and tell a sales guy at front that I'm looking to talk to top sales manager. He asks my name, and it turns out to be Joe that I'm talking to - yay. I talk to top sales manager and he directs me back to Joe (one of his 'senior guys' even though the guy admitted to me on phone he was new - oh well). In fact Joe was so new that he thought the Santa fe still had manual transmission options. I saw him take the top sales manager aside and explain he had spoken to me before so I guess thats how I got him.

    Purchase goes smoothly.

What I DIDNT get was: the big schmooze about all that the car offers, the tour of the engine and safety devices, ANY offers of a drink during my whole time there (3+ hours, that was shocking), any explanation how the 20/200 warranty works, any business cards in my owner's manual, any business cards handed to me. Also my wife was there with 2 year old and newborn. No one told us about the play area until we walked past it to go to financing at end of night (10:30pm).

Our other car is a Saturn, and the people and environment there are night and day. But I wanted a Santa Fe, not the Vue. Oh well. I'm buying the car, not the fanfare.

I would still recommend Colonial if you arent expecting much. You may get different experience with different people. It was my first ever new car purchase so I was kinda bummed they didnt schmooze me more, but I did negotiate everything ahead of time so maybe that threw the guy off. I would be curious to hear any dealings with their service department.
  • 1racefan1racefan Member Posts: 932
"It was my first ever new car purchase so I was kinda bummed they didnt schmooze me more, but I did negotiate everything ahead of time so maybe that threw the guy off."

That's the way to go these days. I will typically negotiate everything via phone or email ahead of time, then request the salesman fax final #s to me before I go in for the test drive (along with his signature). If you are paying cash, or already have financing in place you can be in and out in less than an hour.
After I had a 4hr plus buying experience with my very first new car purchase, I decided I would never try to do the test drive, negotiations, and final paperwork all in 1 trip. The sad thing is that I don't consider myself to be a "grinder". I have no problem with a dealer making a profit. I typically just offer what I consider to be a fair price, and then let the dealer take it or leave it.
  • LDegrelleLDegrelle Member Posts: 74
I hear you. Took way too long. But we had to go through their financing to get stupid College discount. In retrospect, maybe I should have bought a cheap ol Hyundai to get the owner loyalty piece. In for a penny in for a pound!

I could never bring myself to do test drives ahead of time unless I was comitted to buying a car. I had a buddy who was a car salesman for short period of time. If he so much as talked to someone, he was expected to sell them a car. No way I want to put a guy through that.

I want the 2006 GLS V-6 with sunroof (buying in greater Boston, MA area) any experiences out there? Pls share your final price and how you got to it? confused about advertising and destination charge fees?

I just got a quote for 2005 that seems really competitive, $19,358 for a 2005 LX with sunroof before TTL....$57 doc fee, this is with all the incentives including the $1000 financing incentive. Got this quote over the internet, is this a good price, or could I find something better? I'm in the Chicagoland area btw.
  • sikssiks Member Posts: 1
I also got a quote $ 19,500 for 2005 GLS 2.7 4WD with sunloof and roof cross rails before tax including 3,000 cash back in New Jersey.
I have no idea this deal is good or bad deal.
Does somebody have some opinions about my deal.
And the mileage is 40 miles of the car.
Is it normal and the dealer put document fee $250.
  • laustinlaustin Member Posts: 1
I could not find any real deals on this car. I got a 2005 Sante fe GLS/LX, 2.7L, AWD with package 4 (sunroof and 6cd changer). Sticker was $25,400 minus $3,000 in rebates. The dealer did not want to come any lower than the rebates....come on now. This was the last one on the lot. I had talked to many dealers and each one only had 1 or 2 sante fe's on their lots. I bought quick to get the $3k rebate.

So in the end I paid $22,400 (then I had a trade in and down payment) so I financed for less.

I could not find any "deal" on sante fe's that were not black or blue.

One Dealer in the bay area offers 2005 Santa Fe GLS 2.7L FWD, with sunroof, for 17000 (After all the rebates)+tax and fees, should I take it? It seemes to be a good deal even though it is a 2005 model. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
  • rutger3rutger3 Member Posts: 361
They play games with the figures. Watch for bogus window etching fee, document fee, and overcharged DMV fees. Also, be wary of paperwork for your warranty.
  • LDegrelleLDegrelle Member Posts: 74
Also find out which rebates YOU qualify for. The rebates include: standard rebate, owner loyalty, college grad, military and sometimes soem weird other one. You may only qualify for the standard rebate, or the standard and college rebate, and suddenly the total cost is like $18000 +.

So tell them EXACTLY what you have and then find out what YOUR final cost will be.
  • rutger3rutger3 Member Posts: 361
It has been 3 weeks since I purchased a car from them, paid cash, and I still do not have the Title. Dealer says it could take weeks, NJ DMV says it should be done when registering car and take one week. Something is wrong. Will need to contact BBB.

I am looking to purchase an 06 Sante Fe LX in the next month or two. Throughout the last two or three months, Hyundai has been offering rebates and/or low interest financing on the LX - up to $1000 or $1500 and as low as 2.9%. As of today (May 2), all incentives listed on the "hyundaiusa.com" website are gone. Does anyone have knowledge as to whether this will be only for the short-term? Is May for some reason a "no-incentive" month?

Did you ever get a reply on this? I'm in NJ and thinking about buying a Santa Fe. Am looking for the best deal in price and incentives..
Also, Consumer Reports reports tip-ups on their rollover tests. Anyone hear anything on it?
    Thanks.
