I'm in the PHX metro area, too and would be interested in the name of woman at Norm Reeves Honda. I know you can't post it here, but are you allowed to email it directly to me? If so, please send her contact info to: "sjobs99 at hotmail dot com". Thx in advance!
As for other markets, just read a month's worth of past posts in this thread or check the Odyssey owner's club website (the name of which I'm prohibited from posting here).
Ohio has had great Odyssey prices for a couple of years. Don't know where you are but if you haven't already done so, get quotes from some NE Ohio stores as well as Hugh White, Honda East, and Marysville Honda in the Columbus area (steer clear of Immke and Roush where prices are higher).
One dealer about an hour away was willing to sell for $31,700 w/wheel locks, cross bars, and splash guards plus one free oil change. We decided to use that price and shop it to dealers close to us (the one we went with is a mile from us and has a great reputation). They lowered their price from $31,827 to match the $31,700 price, but they didn't offer any accessories and honestly I didn't bother to even ask. I had 3 other dealers willing to match that price but not give the accessories, so it is sounding like $31,700 was a great deal!! One dealer did say he'd throw in wheel locks, splash guards, and a cargo mat, but not the cross bars (apparently they cost $268 installed). Unfortunately, that dealer didn't have the silver one that we wanted, so I just called the dealer close to us and we'll make the deal with them (without the accessories).
I actually had one dealer try to tell me that some of the lower OTD prices on the east coast are lower because "more people buy Honda's out west". Yah, sure, nice try pal.
Would love some feedback to make sure we made a good deal. We're going tonight to sign papers and pick it up!!
Can somebody please tell me that buying from another dealer is ok? We got the "don't buy from a 3rd party" speal, but I think the finance guy was referring to some insurance company, not another Honda dealer.
Can any of the experts on this forum shed some light on this for me? We are going to cancel this today (thank goodness we can cancel it and get our money back!).
Thanks!
As I recall, you have 30 days to drop the coverage you got at whatever price you paid (for a full refund), and repurchase Hondacare from any other authorized Honda dealer in the country. I MAY BE WRONG, so verify with the new dealer that your vehicle is still considered new once it leaves the showroom. If yes, I suggest the 120-80-zero-deductible for $1250.
We could have gone with the $1250 for the 8/120/0, but I figured it was worth $50 to just get it over with then and there. Plus we got a good deal on Guardian.
Woooowooooo!!!
According to TMV the EXL invoice price is $28,000. but does that include dest? :confuse:
What is the true invoice price and what do you guys think is a very good price for EXL & EXL Res?
Thanks in advance for all of the help.
Price: $28,524 + $595 Dest = $29,119
Processing/Doc Fee: $399
3% Sales Tax: $874
Reg. Fees: $55
Out-the-door price: $30,447
You should confirm that EXL quote includes destination charge. If it does, then you have an excellent price, If it doesn't then you should still be able to get $200-300 if you want to push it. I don't know about the EXL RES because we weren't looking at that package.
I'd suggest not even thinking about MSRP--dealers love to negotiate down from sticker. You want to negotiate up from dealer cost. Invoice on that vehicle is right at $32,013. There is a 2 to 3% holdback (i.e., $750 to $1050) depending on when the dealer acquired the van, so their cost is around $31K and change. Seems the sales guy wasn't entirely honest with you. (I'm SHOCKED! :P )
Most members avoid trying to compare OTD prices, as tax rates vary. What we are interested in is the actual selling price, including destination charge, before tax, title and license ("price before TTL"). The OTD price is built on that number.
Take a look back through previous posts to get a sense for the strategies that others have used to get the best deals.
Good luck!
If you decide to widen your dealer range, you could probably do better, but some people aren't interested in traveling a few hours to get a vehicle so it's strictly a personal decision. Good luck and let us know how it works out.
One price that we have gotten so far is 31,700 OTD, is this a good price for what we are looking for? We have decided to keep looking and see if we need to expand our search into other cities. Any advise will be helpful.
Personally I would skip the warranty, as you can purchase that later if you so choose. Generally IMHO it is wiser to self-insure (put $1360 in the bank and dedicate it to future repairs if need be--if you don't spend it, you keep it!).
Financing is the other question. A subsidized low rate can cut hundreds to thousands off your total outlay. Honda's low-APR financing seems to have been renewed per Edmunds.com, 0.9% to 3.9% depending on term. They may come up with something even better for Presidents' Day...
1. 8 year 120 k mile warranty
2. Fog lights
3. Cross bars
4. Mud guards
5. Wheel locks
The OTD price (inclusive of tax) is $37,500.
I've also got 3.9% financing as Honda extended it for another month.
Can someone validate if this is a reasonable price.
Thanks in advance!
Richard.

It's a fair bit of work to validate your price. One has to work backwards, taking out the DMV and tax, then figuring out what they are charging for the accessories and the warranty. (I advise against the warranty--the probability is that the issuer will come out ahead.)
Better if you report the price including destination + TTL. That way anyone can tell at a glance what you are paying. OTD prices are generally not helpful.
You can compare prices for the accessories at some websites that sell OEM Honda add-ons. Look at previous posts for prices others have reported for extended warranties.
Working your price backwards (NOT the best way to do it), I'll subtract $350 for estimated DMV and doc fees. Dividing the remainder of $37,150 by 1.085--guessing that your Bay Area tax rate is 8.5%--gives $34,240. The van you are buying has an invoice price of $32,013. The difference of $2,227 is what you're being charged for the accessories, warranty and dealer profit. Seems like there might be a few hundred bucks left on the table. Dealers love to confuse the issue by piling on the profitable goodies. The financing is a great deal--since 3.9% is right at the rate of inflation, the present value of all the future payments is the same as the purchase price today.
Better idea: read Edmunds' "Strategies for Smart Car Buyers" from cover to cover. Then negotiate a price on a vehicle with no ups and no extras, via phone or email . You can get the accessories elsewhere for less.
Best of luck! :shades:

Hopefully this helps
Initially sent out e-mail requests for the best quote from about 8 local Honda Dealers via the Honda web-site. Wanted an LX with the Tow Package and Leather-wrapped steering wheel (towing 18' Checkmate ski boat). Within 2 days had initial quotes back.
Sent out a second e-mail to all 8 dealers with the best price so far, asking for final quotes. The Internet Sales Manager at Park, provided the best second quote (almost $200 better than the best initial quote from another dealer). He was very helpful and good to work with. The price breakdown was:
$23,132.00 for Base Odyssey LX including Destination ($568 below invoice)
1,059.00 for Tow Package (hitch, coolers, etc)
135.00 for Leather-wrapped steering wheel
----------
$24,326.00 total
250.00 for Doc Fee
1,658.88 for Ohio Sales Tax
25.50 for Tags
----------
$26,260.38 total Financed through Honda
482.44 monthly payment for 5 years
Delivery/signing papers took less than 1 hour. Entire process took less than 2 weeks from start to finish (would have been faster if they had the vehicle in stock - had to dealer-trade for it). I recommend Park Honda if shopping for any Honda in the northeast Ohio area. Mike Pruitt Honda was a close second, and their Internet Sales Manager was very friendly and professional. Overall experience was very positive.
I am considering buy an Odyssey soon and like to know where you got your quote from "The other dealer".
I'd like to have it and negotiate with the FINANICE GUY.
Thank you!
If you don't want to sell the old Odyssey yourself, I would pick the three places you get the best offers from in regards to the 2007 Ody and take your '02 to each of them and see what they offer. Then that just becomes another variable to weigh in to the total deal.
Good luck,
Steve
