Honda City in Chicago. They were great to work with, but I had 4-5 quotes from the Chicago area that were very close. All were $800-1000 under dealer invoice. I listed several dealers in an earlier post in this thread that gave very good quotes. I would highly recommend the email approach to eliminate the dealership pressure. It's especially useful if you know exactly what you're looking for.

You can do what was mentioned in other reply or you can call them. I decided to call them because I had prepared one email that contained very specific information of how I wanted to proceed. Actually calling them was fairly easy and most were very familiar w/ people asking for the email address for a "request for a quote". It probably took about 15 min. to get 20 email addresses for my quote request. Of course they may ask your name and phone number, but that doesn't mean that you have to give it to them. Tell them you name and all of the information that they need will be spelled out in the email. Trust me, they're trying to sell cars, plenty of them will be happy to give you the email address. I had no trouble getting it from any of the dealers I called. I sent my email to 20 dealers and I had 13 replies within 24 hours and a deal 36 hours after I sent the original email. Good luck and feel free to email me and I'd be happy to talk more w/ you.

    jstephens1,

I'm in the PHX metro area, too and would be interested in the name of woman at Norm Reeves Honda. I know you can't post it here, but are you allowed to email it directly to me? If so, please send her contact info to: "sjobs99 at hotmail dot com". Thx in advance!

After much debate with several dealers, I can't seem to get anyone below $29,500 for a Cherry EXL-RES. What are others seeing in their markets?
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
It would appear that you have established your market price if the bottom line is the same with the stores you've contacted.

As for other markets, just read a month's worth of past posts in this thread or check the Odyssey owner's club website (the name of which I'm prohibited from posting here).

Ohio has had great Odyssey prices for a couple of years. Don't know where you are but if you haven't already done so, get quotes from some NE Ohio stores as well as Hugh White, Honda East, and Marysville Honda in the Columbus area (steer clear of Immke and Roush where prices are higher).

I paid 29,600 in Victoria, TX. This was as low as I could get them and they said they were losing money. I didnt shed any tears, by the way. As long as they are not adding any extras, you may be as low as you can get.
  • acuratacurat Member Posts: 87
Price with destination is around $1000 over invoice--whether the holdback is 3%, or reduced to 2% as rumored on post-Jan 2007 vehicles, they should be able to do lots better. I'd question it too--others have been buying below invoice. I've leased a number of cars so I appreciate the logic in some circumstances. Yet with a payment that high, I'd encourage you to run the numbers for a purchase too. Good luck!!

How much did you pay for the 07 Touring with NAV and RES in NJ? I am still looking for quotes on the best/fair price. Pricing seems to have risen since December and the dealers are not as flexible..........

I just wanted to get some feedback from everybody. I spent a week dealing with 7 dealers in the NorCal/Sacto area and got a price on a silver EX-L w/R&N for $31,700 (that includes destination charge). We'll pay 7.75% tax and a few hundred bucks for tags and title. Looks like our OTD price will be $34,495.76...give or take a few bucks. Do you think that's a good deal?

One dealer about an hour away was willing to sell for $31,700 w/wheel locks, cross bars, and splash guards plus one free oil change. We decided to use that price and shop it to dealers close to us (the one we went with is a mile from us and has a great reputation). They lowered their price from $31,827 to match the $31,700 price, but they didn't offer any accessories and honestly I didn't bother to even ask. I had 3 other dealers willing to match that price but not give the accessories, so it is sounding like $31,700 was a great deal!! One dealer did say he'd throw in wheel locks, splash guards, and a cargo mat, but not the cross bars (apparently they cost $268 installed). Unfortunately, that dealer didn't have the silver one that we wanted, so I just called the dealer close to us and we'll make the deal with them (without the accessories).

I actually had one dealer try to tell me that some of the lower OTD prices on the east coast are lower because "more people buy Honda's out west". Yah, sure, nice try pal.

Would love some feedback to make sure we made a good deal. We're going tonight to sign papers and pick it up!!

I got the same car here in NJ last week and I paid $30,830 with destination. With fog lights, taxes and other fees my out the door cost was a little under $34,000. I don't know what may justify the large difference in price but I think you should go with the best deal you have as the special APR program ends Feb. 5th.

I'm not sure whether the e-mail thing is allowed. Just look up main phone number for Norm Reeves West Covina and ask for bigger boned asian women in internet department. They may respond with a laugh but I'm trying to be polite as possible, I think you'll know what I mean. I also bought the 8 yr 120,000 mile extended warranty for $1250 via information provided on this site from Mike Pruitt Honda in Ohio. Dealerships can't touch this price. Great service, overnight DHL with pre-paid return envelope, another unusually pleasant experience I'd highly recommend to anyone in the market.

So, we bought our 2007 EX-L w/R&N last night and we thought the EW was a great idea since we were told this car has 11 (ELEVEN!) computers in it and the sliding doors alone would be a fortune to fix if something happened. Plus, the piece of mind after spending over $35K is a *good* thing! So, we bought it from the dealer at time of delivery for $2475. It was the 8 year/100,000 miles/$100 deductible. At the time, we figured since this was only raising our monthly payment by $45 give or take that it was a super deal!! After coming home and reading this forum, I see that we can get it for HALF that from another Honda dealer elsewhere in the country (MD, OH, KY, etc.).

Can somebody please tell me that buying from another dealer is ok? We got the "don't buy from a 3rd party" speal, but I think the finance guy was referring to some insurance company, not another Honda dealer.

Can any of the experts on this forum shed some light on this for me? We are going to cancel this today (thank goodness we can cancel it and get our money back!).

    Thanks!
  • jstephens1jstephens1 Member Posts: 38
I'd contact Mike Pruitt Honda in Akron Ohio and ask to speak with their "extended warranty guy" (names not allowed here). Everything done via next day DHL. You will receive 2 cards a few weeks later along with info pack directly from Honda. I forgot to mention my 8 yr./120K has a ZERO deduct. This warranty is through "Hondacare" and is the EXACT same warranty the dealer is trying to make a few (in your case alot) extra bucks on.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
There's an entire thread here on Honda EWs. It would be beneficial to all if you would post the name of your selling dealer - that is highest fee I've ever heard of for such a warranty.
  • tnqgzstnqgzs Member Posts: 7
When I bought my EXL a month ago, I told my dealer what the offer was from the dealer in Ohio. He gave me the same price plus $25. He will get my business in the future.

As I recall, you have 30 days to drop the coverage you got at whatever price you paid (for a full refund), and repurchase Hondacare from any other authorized Honda dealer in the country. I MAY BE WRONG, so verify with the new dealer that your vehicle is still considered new once it leaves the showroom. If yes, I suggest the 120-80-zero-deductible for $1250.

This forum (and you guys!) have been WONDERFUL in helping to save me BIG BUCKS!! We marched back over to our dealer this a.m. (with all 3 kids in tow - ages 2, 1, and 4 weeks - which made them HURRY! HA!) and had a little chat with Mr. Finance Guy about our EW. We showed him 2 quotes we got (one for $1150 and one for $1250 on the 8/120/0) and he was stumbling all over his words!! Of course, he tried to convince us that it was NOT going to be valid in CA (pff..nice try again!) and we basically told him to cancel our EW and we were walking. We had also mentioned the Guardian program (for exterior and interior protection) and told him that we would buy it if he would sell it to us for $300. As we were about to leave he broke out with "Ok..so here's the deal...." and offered us $395 for Guardian (originall $895!!!!!) and $1350 for the 8/120/0. I told him to make it $1300 and $395 and he had a deal. He took the offer and we were also happy. So, we went from $2475 EW to $1300 and we got the Guardian plan for $395. A savings of $1675!!

We could have gone with the $1250 for the 8/120/0, but I figured it was worth $50 to just get it over with then and there. Plus we got a good deal on Guardian.

    Woooowooooo!!! :)

I have finally decided to pull the trigger and the lowest quote I have is $27,300 for an EXL and $28,600 for an EXL Res + dest tax, tax, lic.

According to TMV the EXL invoice price is $28,000. but does that include dest? :confuse:

What is the true invoice price and what do you guys think is a very good price for EXL & EXL Res?

Thanks in advance for all of the help.
  • vladarinovladarino Member Posts: 1
2007 Odyssey EX-L RES purchased in Charlotte, NC.

    Price: $28,524 + $595 Dest = $29,119
    Processing/Doc Fee: $399
    3% Sales Tax: $874
    Reg. Fees: $55

    Out-the-door price: $30,447

I would suggest that you look back through this thread for the past 4-5 months and read all of the posts. It's very informative and you will get a very good idea of what a good selling price is for both trim packages. If I recall, the dealer invoice on the EXL is right at $28,600 which includes the $600 destination charge.

You should confirm that EXL quote includes destination charge. If it does, then you have an excellent price, If it doesn't then you should still be able to get $200-300 if you want to push it. I don't know about the EXL RES because we weren't looking at that package.

Oh, the dealer we bought the car from is Carmichael Honda in Carmichael, CA. The internet sales dept. was fantastic and I would recommend them to anyone. They actually were only $127 over the lowest bid I got and they matched it. The finance guy is the one who tried to take us for a ride (no pun intended) with a $2475 8/100/100 EW. I am so glad you guys are here and I hope my experience helps somebody in the future. I did talk to the guy at Mike Pruitt Honda and he was also super helpful. I would have bought the EW warranty from him, but we spent $50 more (total of $1300) and got the Guardian care package for $395 (Finance Guy told us $895 at time of delivery), too. THanks again for everybody's help!

I am interested in buying a Honda Odyssey EXL DVD & Navigation in CA. The MSRP quoted is $35,490. The salesman said that includes a $2800 profit and is willing to negotiate. Does anyone have an OTD price recently paid to let me know what is a good deal. Any help would be greatly appreciated
  • acuratacurat Member Posts: 87
We may be interested in the same vehicle. It's between the EX-L RES/Nav, the Touring version with all the bells and whistles, and the prudent course--keeping the '04 EX-L.

I'd suggest not even thinking about MSRP--dealers love to negotiate down from sticker. You want to negotiate up from dealer cost. Invoice on that vehicle is right at $32,013. There is a 2 to 3% holdback (i.e., $750 to $1050) depending on when the dealer acquired the van, so their cost is around $31K and change. Seems the sales guy wasn't entirely honest with you. (I'm SHOCKED! :P )

Most members avoid trying to compare OTD prices, as tax rates vary. What we are interested in is the actual selling price, including destination charge, before tax, title and license ("price before TTL"). The OTD price is built on that number.

Take a look back through previous posts to get a sense for the strategies that others have used to get the best deals.

    Good luck! :)

I did a little internet shopping today and got a great price for the EX-L Navi/DVD. 31737 plus destination 595 tx 2348 DMV 274 and 8.75 tire disposal. I got the 8yr/120,000 0 deductable warranty for 1360(Honda Care). At least I think it is a good price, I am planning on making the deal tommorrow, what do you think????
  • zetrizetri Member Posts: 1
I got mine a couple days ago for 31667. OTD price is 35100 + 239 (dealer installed package that includes wheel lock, tint, splash guard, rubber thing in trunk cargo - I don't know what it's called officially). We also bought EW 6yr/120 for $1200 (down from $2800). I wish I read more threads to get the 8yr/120, but we're very happy to get the van and we think we got good price. Thanks to all the discussions here. BTW, we live in Arizona - highly recommend the dealer.
  • 4bearhug4bearhug Member Posts: 52
Only you can decide if that's acceptable to you. If you're happy with the dealer making $700 on the Ody then you should do it. There are plenty of posts w/ $100-200 profit deals, but dealers vary from region to region.

If you decide to widen your dealer range, you could probably do better, but some people aren't interested in traveling a few hours to get a vehicle so it's strictly a personal decision. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

I visited the Honda website earlier today and didn't see the 1.9 financing offer for Odyssey that was there a few days ago. Anyone know if it's gone for good, coming back, or is a new/better incentive coming?
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
It ended yesterday. Honda keeps things close to the vest so the future is unknown.

I had a great experience at Landmark Honda, in Alexandria VA, which happens to be the Honda dealer closest to my house. They gave me a great internet quote and our sales person , a fellow titan alumni, really went above and beyond. I will definitely be back. The TOTAL OTD price for my Nimbus Gray Odyssey EXL with RES and Mud guards was $30,714(including 3.2% tax)and 1.9% financing for 36 months. The whole transaction took about an hour and a half which included inspecting two cars for possible trade ins. They honored their internet quote and didn't try to sneak things onto the final invoice. This was the best and easiest new car purchase I have ever had, two thumbs up. :)
  • congancongan Member Posts: 4
We have been looking to purchase EXL (with no RES/NAV) and got just 2 competitive quotes via internet from dealers in GA. Some of other dealers were willing to beat the price but when we went to the dealership they did not beat the price and the options that we wanted like mudguard, visor, ipod link etc. they decided to not throw in any of them and had their own standard package which we had to pay $995.

One price that we have gotten so far is 31,700 OTD, is this a good price for what we are looking for? We have decided to keep looking and see if we need to expand our search into other cities. Any advise will be helpful.

I just bought a EX-L with mud guard for $27700 plus tax and license. Hope this price can help.
  • congancongan Member Posts: 4
Was this in GA, if so can you please tell me the dealer?
  • acuratacurat Member Posts: 87
That's $319 over invoice, a pretty fair deal in most parts, especially if they've included some little goodies like cargo tray or splashguards.

Personally I would skip the warranty, as you can purchase that later if you so choose. Generally IMHO it is wiser to self-insure (put $1360 in the bank and dedicate it to future repairs if need be--if you don't spend it, you keep it!).

Financing is the other question. A subsidized low rate can cut hundreds to thousands off your total outlay. Honda's low-APR financing seems to have been renewed per Edmunds.com, 0.9% to 3.9% depending on term. They may come up with something even better for Presidents' Day... ;)
  • xy2setxy2set Member Posts: 2
It was in LA, CA. And the interest rate was 0.9% for 36 month or 3.9% up to 60 month. If you need the dealer, please let me know.

I am buying an Odyssey EXL R&N in Contra Costa county in California. It includes the following options :

    1. 8 year 120 k mile warranty
    2. Fog lights
    3. Cross bars
    4. Mud guards
    5. Wheel locks

The OTD price (inclusive of tax) is $37,500.

I've also got 3.9% financing as Honda extended it for another month.

Can someone validate if this is a reasonable price.

    Thanks in advance!

You may also want to check-out Norm Reeves Honda in West Covina. There is an asian lady in internet sales I dealt with in December. I traveled from the Phoenix, AZ area, no "surprises", very honest and I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone in Cali., AZ. or Nevada.

    Hi dattani,

It's a fair bit of work to validate your price. One has to work backwards, taking out the DMV and tax, then figuring out what they are charging for the accessories and the warranty. (I advise against the warranty--the probability is that the issuer will come out ahead.)

Better if you report the price including destination + TTL. That way anyone can tell at a glance what you are paying. OTD prices are generally not helpful.

You can compare prices for the accessories at some websites that sell OEM Honda add-ons. Look at previous posts for prices others have reported for extended warranties.

Working your price backwards (NOT the best way to do it), I'll subtract $350 for estimated DMV and doc fees. Dividing the remainder of $37,150 by 1.085--guessing that your Bay Area tax rate is 8.5%--gives $34,240. The van you are buying has an invoice price of $32,013. The difference of $2,227 is what you're being charged for the accessories, warranty and dealer profit. Seems like there might be a few hundred bucks left on the table. Dealers love to confuse the issue by piling on the profitable goodies. The financing is a great deal--since 3.9% is right at the rate of inflation, the present value of all the future payments is the same as the purchase price today.

Better idea: read Edmunds' "Strategies for Smart Car Buyers" from cover to cover. Then negotiate a price on a vehicle with no ups and no extras, via phone or email . You can get the accessories elsewhere for less.

    Best of luck! :shades:

Purchased a new 2007 Odyssey LX from Park Honda in Akron Ohio a few weeks back with the 3.9% special financing for 60 months.

Initially sent out e-mail requests for the best quote from about 8 local Honda Dealers via the Honda web-site. Wanted an LX with the Tow Package and Leather-wrapped steering wheel (towing 18' Checkmate ski boat). Within 2 days had initial quotes back.

Sent out a second e-mail to all 8 dealers with the best price so far, asking for final quotes. The Internet Sales Manager at Park, provided the best second quote (almost $200 better than the best initial quote from another dealer). He was very helpful and good to work with. The price breakdown was:

$23,132.00 for Base Odyssey LX including Destination ($568 below invoice)
1,059.00 for Tow Package (hitch, coolers, etc)
    135.00 for Leather-wrapped steering wheel
    ----------
    $24,326.00 total
    250.00 for Doc Fee
    1,658.88 for Ohio Sales Tax
    25.50 for Tags
    ----------
    $26,260.38 total Financed through Honda
482.44 monthly payment for 5 years

Delivery/signing papers took less than 1 hour. Entire process took less than 2 weeks from start to finish (would have been faster if they had the vehicle in stock - had to dealer-trade for it). I recommend Park Honda if shopping for any Honda in the northeast Ohio area. Mike Pruitt Honda was a close second, and their Internet Sales Manager was very friendly and professional. Overall experience was very positive.

I understand the business about Emailing several dealerships in my area with the exact model/specifications I am looking to purchase. What would you do in the event you have a 2002 Odyssey as a possible trade in?
  • tnqgzstnqgzs Member Posts: 7
You are free to ask any Honda dealer to quote you a Hondacare warranty. Mike Pruitt Honda (mentioned in the previous post) is one of those dealers. Their web address is http://www.mikepruitthonda.com/main.html.
  • speterson1speterson1 Member Posts: 228
Well, rule of thumb says you can always make a lot more money on your trade by selling it yourself, but it (obviously) takes more work on your part. Dealerships will want to see the vehicle before they give you an offer, so unfortunately there's no email-type shortcut to get offers on your trade-in; you'll have to take it to every place you want an offer from.

If you don't want to sell the old Odyssey yourself, I would pick the three places you get the best offers from in regards to the 2007 Ody and take your '02 to each of them and see what they offer. Then that just becomes another variable to weigh in to the total deal.

    Good luck,
    Steve

Is that with or without the $595 destination charge? Even if it is without, that seems like a fair deal for the NY metro area. I purchased an EX-L in Suffolk County for $29,148 plus TTL. Please post your results once you finalize a deal. Good luck.

Bought a 2007 Honda Odyssey EX-L with no RES or nav for 28000 with the $595 destination charge included. With TTL and 7.25% sales tax, OTD price was 30,400. It started as a pleasant buying experience, but I got a call a week later saying that they made a mistake on the sales tax and it should be 8.25% and that I have to come in and redo all the paper work for an additional $280. Is this the dealer's mistake or do I actually need to go in and fix this for them? Secondly, I happen to live 80 miles away from the dealership which can be a long commute back and forth. Thanks for any input.
