Congan...just bought 07 EXL w/out RES/NAV about a month ago. Live in Knoxville, TN and solicited e-mail quotes from dealers in GA and TN (Nashville, Chattanooga, Knoxville). Following are most competitive quotes, all of which are vehicle price plus destination fee (excl. TTL):

    $27,667 Hennessey (Woodstock, GA)
    $27,965 Milton Martin (Gainesville, GA)
    $28,000 Economy Honda (Chattanooga)
    $28,057 Westside Honda (Knoxville)
    $28,148 Curry Honda (Chamblee, GA)

Bought from Westside Honda in Knoxville after they included several accessories (all weather mats, wheel locks, etc.) at no extra charge. OTD was around $30,500.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

My wife was at dealership today for a test drive. I am going to stop by this weekend and run some numbers with them.

Let me know how you make out.

we just bought odyssey ex 07 and pilot lx 4wd 07, traded in our odyssey ex 04. We have to get both new cars at the same time for reasons that's not related to car buying.

We've found out that Careypaul Honda at Sneilville, GA to be the most helpful. I used helpful not pleasant, remember that. They've exercised some typical car salesmanship that would make no consumer happy, but that does not make me bitter too much because everybody nees to make a buck or two. But you do need to get ready for those salesmanship.

But if you can see through the smoke screen they put out, and do you homework, and most importantly come up with a realistic number based on your research not based on a negotiating tactic, Carey Paul Honda is the most willing to work out something with you.

The reason that I say that is that I need to get a black pilot lx 4wd, 4wd is non-existence in the South, plus I need black. Carey Paul honda is the only dealer that give me the what I wanted at a price that I can afford. I belive the reason that the saleman would be able to do that is because they have a very close and good support from their management, they actually got the car from NC.

The other dealers either try to tell me there is no lx 4wd or try to sell me just odyssey or just try to talk me into buy a used one. In short, they tried to sell me whatever they have. There is only one dealer that offer to get what I want but at a much higher price.

Another reason that I got the deal from CareyPaul is that they have a large used car dealership so if you have a trade in, they are a good candidate. I let them make a kill on my trade in to get good deals on my new car also get the lx 4wd in black.

all in all, you need to read the post in here to get ideas about what you need to pay to get what so that you don't get scared or pressured by them, rest assured that they are very good at it and will make you crumble if you don't know the number before hand. I showed them my research and that really make the process very short, equal less pain and frustration.

On the flip side of the coin, do not make car buying a trophy hunting, thinking I have to get the best deal or I have to match the deal that guy got, have some flexibility, a few hundred dollor wont sink you. as long as you are in a reasonable range, then a little flexibility will leave you happy and still want to drive new car. For example, a post saying that he got a LX 4wd in Chicago for less than what I paid, I initailly used that number to negotiate then I realized that 4wd is harder to get then I gave dealership a few more hundred dollar to play then they agreed to the deal, had I insist on that number I would not have been able to go anywhere.

Lastly, show calm and respect eventhough you know the otherside is making false statement or trying to pressuring you. After all this is just a process where everybody is just trying to have a few more dollar in their pocket. If you keep it professional and respectful with your salesman, they are more willing to help you.

The reason that I did not post the actual number here is that every situation is different, had I don't have that trade in, the price would be different, so process and the way to negotiate is more importatn.

    Good luck.

I signed a contract for the ex-l with the res and now I would like to add the dvd and the price went up substatially. Can I cancel the contract?
  • acklarryacklarry Member Posts: 11
I got a revised quote of $27,886 which includes the destination charge. Apparently there was a price increase of the Odyssey in January and there are 5 cars left at the previous prices. I have a deposit down on the EX-L in Northern NJ for this price.

I'll post when everything is finalized which should be next weekend. I'm doing this deal for my bro-in-law and he has a 2003 Odyssey to trade so it'll be difficult to know the true net, but I'll post regardless.

I'm looking for a Honda Odyssey EX-L with RES/NAV in Virginia and have had varying success trying to get a good price. Has anyone bought the same van in Virginia in the last month? If so, how much(price before taxes, but with destination and processing) and where?

    Thanks for any help.

    :confuse:

Decided we will be buying an EXL instead of the EX. Going to cruch some numbers. Any luck at the dealership this weekend?

My understanding is that Honda is no longer offering .09% financing as of 2/5 for the Odyssey. If correct, what is the current financing Honda is offering? I'm getting conflicting answers from dealers here in NY
  • 01tblue01tblue Member Posts: 13
Hi,Didnt make it to the dealer this weekend. Going to try today. I did call dealer regarding 0.9%.... it is still valid until 2-28-07. I am located in White Plains Area.

Maybe we can get them to do a a deal for two since you are in the market. (drop me an e-mail its listed). We are looking at the EX-L with DVD and Nav. I did do a instant quote from a dealer mentioned on this site in NJ. The quote was 30,995 for the EX-L DVD-Nav. That is base price, then tax dmv etc. I think that is a good price. If local dealer can do that and decent on trade in (01 Audi A6 Avant loaded) I might be driving a Ody sooner then later.
  • 01tblue01tblue Member Posts: 13
I stand corrected. The 0.9% in no longer available for NY. The dealer gave me incorrect information... So I went down to test drive and price the ODY. The dealer wanted " Full MSRP) I also felt they were giving me a low trade in price as well.(9k) I was thinking 10.5-11k. They were going to buy down the rate to 0.9.

Looks like trip to the other dealer next sat.

I was wondering why dealer would sell a car at invoice price when he invested 30k$ on the inventory. I feel that this is gimmick the dealer and car manufacturer are playing to sell the cars.

I am curious because the dealer gave me a quote below invoice price for a brand new EX-L (nav+dvd) for 31,300. I understand the dealer gets around 1000$ back from honda.
He is just making couple of hundreds from this deal. Is it worth for the investment?

Appreciate if any one can throw their 2 cents.
  • 01tblue01tblue Member Posts: 13
I am only wager a guess that it would be better to sell a handfull @1k profit and move product then sell none. I was just given a MSRP price for an EX-L. I wont be buying from that dealer anytime soon. Plus they might get incentives from honda for moving x cars per year and a piece of the financing. Then a percent will have car maintained at dealership.
  • rdworski1rdworski1 Member Posts: 20
I have been total that a rule of thumb is the dealer's actual cost is only 80% of MSRP.
  • sunshyne864sunshyne864 Member Posts: 1
Went to LaFontaine Honda last night for very same vehicle. They too said they were in demand and could not budge on price even after offering cash supposedly... Also said there were NO 2WD available, I would have to wait 6 to 8 weeks to order. I received a price of $27,700.00 fully loaded. Is this fair? They also offered the floor model as it was the only black they had?? :)
  • 4bearhug4bearhug Member Posts: 52
The dealers have inventory to move and more vehicles coming in every day. They have to keep moving the inventory so even if they only make a $100-200 it's still better than waiting for the few uninformed buyers to wander in and pay MSRP. Dealerships are smart enough to know the difference between a buyer who knows about the 2-3% holdback versus a guy who just wants to buy an Oddy. They will always try to maximize their profit, but the buyers are getting more educated and armed with good information to drive a better deal. Some dealers are willing to move many vehicles at a small margin and maybe pick up some service business in the long run. Just my $.02
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
How many dealers have you ever seen close their doors (except when a manufacturer folds)?

In a way it is a bit of a gimmick because there can be (and often is) other money available (i.e., bonuses from the manufacturer for hitting sales goals).

Anymore, dealers generally make far more of their income from used cars and service work.

From this forum I came to know about email buying process, prices that people bought EX-L at. So i am so happy to do my contribution. Below is my details.
    Initial Deal
    --------------
    Model : 07 Odyssey EX-L
Color : Dessert Rock/ Ivory Leather
Price (including destination, Cargo Tray, Wheel Locks, Splash Guards) : $27462
    Doc Fee : $299
    Title : $86
    Tax (5% MA State) : $1373
    Total OTD Price : $29220

    Final Deal
    ----------
Price (including destination, Cargo Tray, Wheel Locks, Splash Guards) : $27462
    Trade In : $5300
    Final Price : $22162
    Doc Fee : $299
    Title : $86
    Tax (5% MA State) : $1108
    Total OTD Price : $23655

Here is how i did it:
I took printout list of around 30 dealers in my area (in 50 mile radius) from honda website, also noted down name of Internet Sales Mgr for each dealership. Then went to their websites, very few had email address to send request for quote. For most I had to submit my request thru their website. I prepared email and sent to all of them. Got 3-4 responses on 1st day, got 10 responses by Saturday. Some of them put their quote very clearly with all fees, rest asked to call , 1 of them (Commonwealth motors) said he will beat any quote by upto $500). I also collected which colors they have in stock thru their online inventory. I put together a spreadsheet and put all this info there.
After the 1st round of quotes, I sent the ones which had responded 2nd round email with my lowest quote ($27677 with OTD $27345) with free accessories (splash guards, wheel locks, cargo tray). 2nd round i got $29200 OTD. Till now i did not bring in my trade in.
Then I went to Commonwealth to see if he will beat the lowest (as he had claimed). I called to make sure he had Desert Rock in stock and he said yes, when i got there he said he does not have it, then he said the lowest deal i have is not real, and finally agreed to match it if i took van from his lot, for locate he was asking 500 more. I then went to my lowest quote dealer Clair Honda, called him to make sure he has color in stock, he said yes, then when i reached there he said he does not have that color. i was about to leave when he said he will get the Desert rock from another dealer at same price i.e. $29200 OTD. Then i mentioned trade-in and we negotiated till he came to $5300 (from initial $4500), since private party for my car at edmunds was $5500 and i would save $250 in sales tax, so i decided to trade in. next thing was 0.9% apr ( date 2/5) , the finance guy said there is no 0.9% apr on odyssey  , i insisted he verify and he finally said yes there is, since my credit is excellent, i got it for 36 months. i put $500 down to secure this deal on phone before i went.
They got the van from other dealer (40 miles away) in 3 days, van had 48 miles on it after it came, so that's ok.

I told them later i need All season mats, door edge guard, cross bar and they quoted me 317+124+317, way above MSRP, their online parts site has these ast 154+38+162, but he was not ready to budge, so did not buy from them.

Took delivery in a week. The sales guy (pm me if u need his name) was very courteous. Van Looks super nice, very glad with color combo. Overall very good experience

Lessons learned : Negotiate accessories before closing the deal, get in writing color is available before u go.

Clair Honda Dealership experience: Internet sales manager was very responsive. Sales guy on the floor i dealt with, very polite , will defintely recommend him, Finance guy, little pushy, that's ok. Overall i will recommend them.

Sorry for looooooooong email. if u need any help, send me email.
    Good Luck

    Hi

I bought an EX-L with RES and NAVI on Jan 24, 2007, from O'Donnell Honda in Ellicott City, Maryland. Smooth experience, have purchased there earlier. Recommend to all.

This is what I paid for the EX-L with RES and NAVI

    $32387 (including $595 destination) + 5% MD tax ($1618) + registration, title fees ($223) + $4 tire recycling fee.

    TOTAL OTD - $34232

    Hi

I bought a 2007 Odyssey EX-L w/RES but no navigation in the Cary, NC area for the following price.

    Model : 07 Odyssey EX-L w/RES
Color : Dessert Rock/ Ivory Leather

    $29,885 - Price (including destination)
    $897 - Tax (3% NC State)
    $398 - Doc Fee
    $55 - Title
    _______________________
    $31,235 Total OTD Price

I also bought a 7 Year/100,000 mile Honda Care Warranty for $1,150 thanks to the following website. I recieved a quote for this warranty for $1050/no deductible at the following website (www.hondawarrantyinfo.com). When we starting talking to the dealer I showed him the quote. He seemed surprised about the pricing and asked were I got it from and I replied the internet. He told me the pricing was at his cost and he said he could offer the same plan for $1150 which I agreed to since I was taking advantage of the 0.9% rate for 36 months.

I just completed the purchase of an EXL-RES in New Jersey. It's unbelievable what a difference 6 years makes. We got the car for about $29,100 including the $595 destination charge. This on a car with a sticker of $33,290. We also took advantage of 3.9% 60 month financing. This type of financing is almost never available on the odyssey. When shopping in 2001, they were trying to charge over the sticker price. Multiple dealers in NJ provided an internet or phone quote for the $29,100 price. I bought the car at Joyce Honda in Denville. Joyce won by virtue of Zipcode. By the time I got there, I really knew what I wanted. They came within $100 of the price, including a trade, and I didn't want to drive another hour to a dealer where I got the same price two weeks before, but didn't buy. (should have). The dealers seem to want to move this car. One dealership I visited couldn't get close enough on the trade but offered some flavor of tires for life and an extended warrantly. I called back three times for more info from the sales manager, but couldn't get a call back. Remember, although they took away the special financing, I was told that there is going to be a new finance deal for one week, on Presidents week....instead of 3.9 for 60, it will be 4.9. Still a good rate for a Honda.

    Thanks! :)

I purchased at Autopark Honda in Cary, NC but I received a similar price at Leith Honda of Raleigh. Please see the internet quote below from Leith Honda of Raleigh, NC. I bought in Cary because they are closer to my home. I would strongly suggest you get several internet quotes.

I can offer you a Price of $29,886 on the New 2007 Honda Odyssey EXL w/RES that you requested. Of course you will have to add the usual fees - 3 percent tax, $398.00 Documentation Fee, $74.00 for a new tag ($55 to transfer) and any dealer installed accessories you choose.

    Good Luck

I have contacted a few dealers and my head is spinning. I am comming off a lease of a 2004 Odyessy and I am looking to get into a new one. I am trying to negoiate the selling price of the car but two dealers are trying to tell me it doesn't affect my monthly payment on a lease ( that doesn't sound right). Any advise?.

Purchased a EX-L Nimbus without RES and NAV at the end of January at Potamkin in Manhattan for $200 over invoice but they gave me $600 more for my trade than the next highest trade in offer from any dealership, so I think that made the deal OK for me. Also got the 3.9% financing for 60 months. The deal part took only 45 minutes but I had to wait 4 hours for the prep and pickup. I guess it was better than coming another day to pickup (you'll understand if you live in NYC). In Manhattan, if you buy a car that is in stock, you pick up and drive home the car the same day!!! I guess real estate is scarce there and they need to move inventory quickly.

Did not go the internet price route. Just went in there and told them what I wanted (1) invoice, 2) good trade and 3) 3.9% financing). Did not get invoice ($200 over) but a good trade amount for my 2005 accord and got the 3.9%. Skipped the EW for now but may buy via the internet before I hit 6K miles. I think the price goes up for the EW if you exceed 6K miles when you buy. This board was very helpful in giving me the information I needed to buy this van. A big thanks to all the posters.

In closing, I know I did not get the best deal in my purchase price, but it was close enough to a very good deal for NYC. Did not want to drive to NJ or Westchester. I probably could have gotten a lower price on the car but then I would have to worry about getting a decent trade in value, so when I felt the numbers were right for me and this deal could be done in my backyard, I followed my instincts and purchased.

    Other dealerships I visited
Nanuet Honda - Good, courteous. Willing to do invoice without negotiation but $600 lower on trade that Potamkin.

Honda City in Long Island. Good price on vehicle, felt trade was too low and had to walk (it later turned out it was $1900 less on trade than Potamkin)

Lee's Toyota- Wanted to get the 06 Sienna with the 0% but they did not have any left, nor was the 0% still available.(better off getting the Odyssey anyway). They were $2100 off on my trade in value compared to Potamkin. Just wanted to show the wide range of trade in values out there.

Hope this info helps someone as previous postings helped me greatly. Happy shopping.

Yes, talk to some other dealers because those two are trying to milk you.

Yes, the invoice went up in January and dealer holdback was reduced.

Hmmmm...and they sent you to Bahamas for a cruise trip and sent you 42"Plasma TV after you arrived....Do you think we will beleive that price? The accessories you have listed cost $750-1000.So they gave you $1500 below invoice? You must be kidding.
  • hondajapanhondajapan Member Posts: 15
Sometimes its better for them so sell a car for 100-200 dollars loss also as they have lots of car coming in and they have to move in cars real fast. They cant keep the cars on the road.

Sounds like a good deal on the car itself. I was quoted $29,100 with destination for a EXL with RES about 3 weeks ago. I ended up buying a EXL with RES & NAV for $30,680 with destination. Can't comment about the accessories but sounded like a lot of nice toys. I envy your low (3.2%) sales tax as I paid 7% here in Jersey. Congrats on your purchase.

I won't waste reader's time by addressing your tone, but I will tell you I did all the financing over the phone/fax and I took advantage of their 3.9% financing!

If you are truly in the market for a deal like this, look up the dealer in Jasper AL...won't be difficult to find (use Google!) and talk to their internet sales consultants (they have 2).

Was that $30,680 plus destination or $30,680 including destination?
  • mb6986mb6986 Member Posts: 30
The price I paid was $30,680 including destination. With fog lights and other necessary fees the total came to a little under $34K out the door. There was 0.9% finance for 36 months at the time which I took advantage.

seems like $1500 under invoice is not out of the question. I just got $300 under invoice plus about $1200 in accessories thrown in. This was a competitive bid situation and my local dealer was willing to throw them in to make a deal. They obviously have more room to negotiate on accessories than on price. Plus if they know you are local and can get some service business out of it, they will work with you. The market seems to be very soft right now and having multiple dealers nearby helps a lot. Don't commit to any dealer until you have called back the other dealers you are dealing with and get them to beat it. In my case, I had dealers calling me to see if I was still in the market and offering to lower their price without me even asking them to. I used www.automobiles.honda.com to send out email requests for quotes. give the whole process about 2 weeks if you are dealing with multiple dealers. In the end, I took my best deal back to my local dealer and asked him to beat it which he did.

Well, we learned a lot from this forum so we thought we should post our results. Had we been willing to travel, we could have gotten the EXL NAV/RES for $31,400 (which includes destination)+TTL in Charlotte, NC. We had several good bids there, but we live several hours away. We tried to use the bids to negotiate with the local dealer, but were relatively unsuccessful, and ended up at $32,000 +TTL. They just weren't willing to go any further, and we decided the hassle of driving 4 hours to Charlotte and back wasn't worth it. They also tapped out at $1700 for an 8/120/$0 warranty, so we passed on it and will be ordering it online for $500 less.
To those of you in larger metro areas, the increased competition is working for you. Good luck to everyone.

    Hi,

I learned so much from the forum that I signed up to share my experience.

Today I purchased the 07 Oddessy for $31878 + TTL. With TTL the price came up to 34810. I got this at San Francisco Honda and had an excellent buying experience. The Sales person was very professional and gave me a email quote. I thought this was a very fair price so there was no need to negotiate. This is the Silver Pearl color and I am totally excited at this purchase. :shades:

Since I stay in the San Jose area, I asked local dealers if they will match this quote. Two outright refused. Three others were willing to discuss, but I could sense some reluctance. After meeting with the Sales person and staff at SF Honda there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to give them my business.

If anyone needs a contact there let me know.

    Hi TeethLaw,

    Congratulations on your purchase.
I too will be looking at hondawarrantyinfo.com where they gave me an excellent quote, almost identical to what you posted.

Now when I showed the quote to my dealer where I bought my Oddessy, the dealer told me that the quote I got from hondawarrantyinfo is probably a low grade warranty program which does not cover every thing that the dealership warranty will cover. Thought I would get your feedback on this.
