2001 EX Odyssey without Navi -Starlight Silver color
Van price with delivery included $26140.
No markups, no dealer prep fees, no advertising fees. No tricks!
Price quoted was done over the internet with no haggling.
I added leather for $1600, above the $26140 price.
No muss no fuss!
I wish all the cars I have purchased were this easy.

ask for Lou Ann Rob,nice lady, VERY easy going!
wait time was about 6 weeks as promised.
Next: Canadian Odys do NOT have the Honda warranty, i.e. USA Honda dealers will not service the vehicle under any Honday Corp warranty. You also cannot purchase the Honda extended warranty.
Dealers who import Canadian models (which are more available than US models) usually offer a third-party warranty. The advantages/disadvantages of third-party warranties are the topic of other discussions.
In summary: while the Canadian units have heated outside mirrors, plus a couple of other small differences, I suggest that you think very carefully before buying a Canadian van as a US resident.
(And before anyone jumps on me, yes, I know that both models are made in the same factory. The Honda factory in Canada makes all the Odys until the new USA factory in the south comes on-line in February 2002 (if I remember reading correctly).
Two emails and got a quote @MSRP from Internet manager (Yvonne) and was on waiting list. Waited for 4 weeks, EX was in yesterday afternoon with 5 miles on it and we picked it up last night. I could have gotten the EX two weeks early, but I was out of office that day and didn't get her message until next day, previous van was sold.
Sales (Norman) was very courtesy from inspect, test drive and went thou all the paper work and finance part done in 2 hours last night.
We did purchase lojack with Odyssey. I had a pre-approved people's first check/draft in my hand for 60 months and 7.15% interest. They were able to match and found a better rate 6.45% on contract. On contract, lojack listed $799 but we paid $400.- ($8.- more per month. $8x60=$480 amortised). 7.15% was the best deal I can find thru internet, credit union and my local banks. Since finance guy was able to get a better deal they deserved to make more money.
If you are looking for MSRP in So Calf and won't mind waiting.

Must say, that was definatley the best buying experience I have ever had, none of the games dealers like to play.Haven't taken delivery yet,but so far so good.
1)Disagree with AC SMITH - post 1456
2)Provide process to purchase Canadian Odyssey
Number 1 - All of the issues set forth are correct, but note that all except the first are created by Honda Corp. Also, note that NAFTA was put in place between our countries to promote free trade, which improves our standard of living. Honda Corp. is working against both the US and Canadian governments by putting back a tariff that they worked hard to eliminate.
Having purchased a Canadian Odyssey while being a US resident, I found the process simple and legally supported by every US and Canadian governmental agency (note the references below to forms and process on both sides of the border). Honda is the only impediment here. All in all, the issues do not outweigh the benefits - and I would (will?) do it all over again for the $5KUS in saving for my 1999 EX.
Number 2 - A couple of things you need to know if you are going to execute this. First, the easiest way for the Canadian dealer (and yourself) is if you have a Canadian drivers license. Though this may seem unreasonable - for many of us, the Canadian border is only a short distance away. A CND DL negates all of the barriers Honda has put in place (for now). Before you go to pick up the car, you need to follow the instructions on the NHTSA and EPA web sites to get letters from the manufacturers. This is a no big deal thing. One e-mail to the manufacturer (using contacts on the web sites) and this was done. You will need this when you come across the border on the US side. The only other thing you need is insurance for the vehicle before entering the US. This is also a no big deal thing. You only need the VIN number to make this happen with your local agent. Your insurance agent should also give you a temporary Canadian insurance card - shows that the car is insured even though it is in Canada.
Once you get to the border you need to stop on the Canadian side and get a Certificate of Destruction/Exportation. This will be used in getting back GST/PST. Pick up the GST and PST rebate forms while you are there. Next you move to the US side and inform the agent that you are bringing back a car and need to go inside to get a Customs Form 368 (collection receipt or informal entry). This is used to prove to your state registrar that you brought the car into the US. At this point you are running on Canadian plates and registration. At some point in the future, you need to get your car registered in your state. With form 368 this is no big deal. The only variable is how much the car cost in US $ so they can compute the state sales tax due (at least this is how it works in NY). Now you are running US plates, registration, insurance et al. Nothing else to do but enjoy your Honda.
As far as the mileage thing goes - I guess I will cross that bridge when selling....which isn't for a while.
By the way - the driving lights get me a discount on my car insurance and the heated mirrors are the nuts.
Can anyone recommend a dealership in my area?

MSRP isn't bad on the Odyssey. You can do better if you are willing to travel, but it may not be worth it.
I suppose the only way I'll get a 2001 under MSRP is if enough people decide to wait for the 2002's. Supply/demand dictates. Thanks again.
Right out of the blue my local dealer calls me and says they just got a special allocation of three Odysseys due in in two weeks. Price: $26840.00 for the 2001 EX with splash guards and roof rack rails. I already had made a deal with another dealership for a 2002 EX which I thought was descent.
2001 Honda Odyssey EX:
Negotiated Price: $29000.00 includes options at the bottom plus
1. Sales Tax $1450.00
2. License & Title $85.00
3. Documentation Fee???? $129.00
Total Price: $30664.00
Installed options:
1. I-VES $1695.00
2. Trailer Hitch, Wiring Harness, Transmission Cooler $498.00
3. Tape Deck $210
4. Block Heater $98.00 (you need one where I live)
5. Splash Guards $108.00
6. Roof Rack Rails $101.00
Let me know what you think.
The dealer where we bought our Ody offered us $11,800 for the tradein. I didn't even bother to haggle with their seriously lowball offer, I just decided to sell the van myself. Out of curiosity, last night I took the van to CarMax, and they offered me $16,000 for it! That's only about $1000 less than I thought I could sell it for myself, and it needed about $500 worth of body work before I would try to sell it. I quickly made the deal before they changed their mind.
As for discounts, don't count on it. In fact, we found that there was a shorter supply than there was a few months ago when we started looking. I heard from several dealers that they would be placing orders for their last allocation of '01 Odysseys soon, and then the 02s wouldn't be available until mid September. I also heard rumors about a price increase on the 02, and the rumored improvements didn't matter to us, so we jumped on an '01 while we had the chance.
We ended up buying just the EX w/Nav at MSRP. The main option we wanted was the IVES, and we talked the dealer down to $1695, but the dealer we bought from is about a 45 minute drive from our house and didn't have the IVES in stock. We didn't want to have to make more trips to get the IVES installed, so we decided to get it done somewhere else. I ended up ordering the IVES over the Internet for $1350 and will install it myself (I did a lot of car customization stuff when I was younger, and the IVES install looks like a breeze).
Here's my experience:
- Used internet/phone for all my negotiations/inquiry. Very efficient.
- Got as many local dealers to quote as possible. Best I found was $500 over MSRP, but dealer has waiting list. Dublin Honda, and I think Stockton? will do it at this price.
- Have had success with Larry Hopkins Honda in Sunnyvale in the past, but was disappointed that a 3rd time customer like myself would be given the same price as everyone else: $1000 over MSRP. What a disappointment
- Ended up purchasing from Robertson Palmdale Honda in Palmdale, CA. (60 mi. NE of LA, in the desert!) Note they are the 8th largest Honda dealer in the US, and they sell 80% of their Odysseys to the SF Bay Area.
Paid: MSRP + TTL = $29,435.80 for Dark Emerald Pearl EX, No Navi, No add ons.
I drove down and picked it up. Other options for Bay Area delivery are:
- they will drive it up to you for $150
- finance manager (forgot name) flies private plane, and heard he will pick you up and fly you down for $500 (OK, that's alot, but no commuter airport close by)
Was painfull to pay so much, but they got the van for me in less than a week. With 2nd baby on the way, just wanted to get it over with.
Here's the dealer contact info:

Good friendly service, no hassles.
MSRP, period. Just add sales tax and a minimal processing fee (less than $100). They don't put anything on it you don't ask for, need or want. What's more - they deliver it to your door. They also will throw in a couple of freebies that Atlanta dealer are charging huge amounts for (such as mud flaps, mats, wheel trim, etc.). This more than offsets the process fee. As of last week they even occasionally still had 2001 models still arriving that were not spoken for. You would have to act fast for these! E-mail (sbbamafan@msn.com)me for more info.
I highly recommend Honda of Lisle.
FYI only, no additional information.

MSRP + Shipping - $300.(300 dealer incentive)
I am interested in learning more about that.
The dealership is Heritage Honda of Towson and their web site has two coupons available. One is for everyone ($100 off MSRP) and the second is for people who have to drive a bit to get there. The first coupon ($100 off) is available at: http://www.mileone.com/mileone/coupons/100.htm
(note that is says $100 off best negotiated deal, however they sell their Ody's at MSRP). The second coupon (up to $200 off) is available at: http://www.mileone.com/mileone/coupons/200.htm
I've had the $300 off confirmed for me based on my distance from the dealership. I've been dealing with Jerry Murray who has been great other than the fact that I missed out on my September allocation because they released them on a Saturday and I wasn't reachable via phone then.
Anyway, Jerry's been great. His contact information is: Jerry Murray, Internet Manager, Heritage Honda of Towson, a MileOne company, 410-337-9700 x138, jmurray@users.ccleads.com
It would do me feel good if you could tell him I referred you. Note that their September allocation of 2002's is already spoken for (in less than 20 minutes).
Good luck.

Try Colonial Honda in Petersburg, VA (804) 733-0700. Just a few blocks off the whyte street exit I-95. I have had good experience for the last two years with their service dept and am now working with Belinda in new car sales for a 2002 EX. They have assured me MSRP, no add ons and $99 processing fee. Walt Smith is the Sales Manager.
Thanks.

Another dealer's internet sales office quoted MSRP+$1600. I'm taking a pass on both "deals".
I find it totally outrageous that the "ask" is still so high, especially in light of the fact that the 2002 model will be out end of this month.
Any NJ owners out there who can recommend a fair dealer who won't overcharge on 2001 models?
