Thanks for the responses to my post. Its good to hear that there are dealers in this area, NJ, selling at MSRP for the 2001.
FYI:I've been getting follow-up phone calls from some of the high-ball dealers, which I haven't responded to yet. Looks like they may have had cancelations on 2001 orders (buyers losing their jobs?), or perhaps they are trying to move what is left of their 2001 allocations, or perhaps enough people are thinking "lets just wait to see what the 2002 MSRP amount will be" at this point in time. As of today, I have not heard of Honda publishing the 2002 MSRP yet. This leaves me to believe that there may be a number of 2001s "in the pipeline" that need to be moved before the 2002 MSRP announcement.
Honda's sales this year did not match last year's red hot sales growth. Just about all their models, including the Oddy, showed negatives on growth this year.
I am rethinking my purchase of a 2001 over a 2002, unless I happen to fall over a 2001 "bargain". I'll let you people know how I made out. Thanks again.
The internet sales dept. of Sam Swope Honda quoted me $500 below sticker for a 2001 EX earlier this year. That was the best price I was quoted here in the Louisville area including Lexington and Bowling Green. I told him I'd wait till fall for the 2002's. Don't know if they'll stay with the same pricing on those or not.
I am shopping for a 2002 EX, and of course looking for a good deal. MSRP is available to anyone from my local dealer in Trav. City, MI. Has anyone had any success negotiating a better price in the southern MI area or northern OH area? I am willing to travel to save a few hundred bucks.
1 month ago I made a good deal on an 2001 EX. The van was suppose to be in last week. Today I was told the van isn't even going to be built until the end of August. Call me silly, but I cancelled my 2001 order, went to another dealer and made a deal on a 2002 EXL RES. They claim it will be in their first allocation of 2002 Odysseys. Price paid: MSRP - What ever that is. I also want a VCP (for my kids videos) along with the DVD. We negotiated, I buy the VCP (aftermarket) and pay for any extra parts necessary for installation. They install it no charge. They claim they have no idea how or where to install it (not between the front seats), but they will figure it out.
When will you know the price of your car when you pick it up? None of the dealers we have talked to know the price of the 2002's but they say we can order one and find out later. We don't feel comfortable doing that. We are going to wait untill the prices come out before we decide. We have heard they could go up anywhere from $500 to $2000. We are also looking at the Sienna.
I requested a quote through honda.com and received a bid from Pompano Honda of MSRP less $140 with no charge for the Paint Protection Package (PPP). Around here the PPP is a $995 charge for nonsense items like Paint sealant, blah, blah. Delray Honda wanted full MSRP and $995 for the PPP. So I took the bid and have been enjoying the van for the last few days. It's called "Granite Green" although I haven't seen the green yet. I thought I did yesterday but it was just the reflection of some trees. The van's really charcoal gray to me.
I've talked to a couple of dealers here in Kentucky, and neither one will commit on what the MSRP is. But that's what they'll be selling for from everyone I talked to. The first shipments are due to arrive mid to late September and they're already taking orders.
Morristown, Tennessee Honda has a little "dicker room" on 2002 Odysseys. We have an order in on a 2002 LX (red pearl), with delivery slated for November, at MSRP less $500. Although MSRP is not released yet, my thinking is the increase (?500 - 1500) will be worth the extra features (engine, transmission, air bag improvements, etc). I suggest talking to Chris Lykens, and tell him "Braywolfpacker" gave him a good recommendation (his boss is an NC State fan). Morristown Honda does have a $169 titling fee which is good also for servicing discounts and "loaner vehicles". No other "hidden" charges for interior prep, pin striping, etc. Try Chris at honda@charter.net, or call (423) 581-0987.
Has anyone had any experience with this online auto broker? They offered 01 Ody EX for MSRP + $100, it also comes with 4 year extended waranty and winter package, which I have never heard of from any honda dealer. They will deliver the car to my home for ~$300 shipping charge.
Appreciate if anyone can share any past experience with this broker, good or bad...
The broker told me all Odyssey are assembled in Canada. What are the major differences between a Canadian model vs U.S. model, except for those metric speedometer?
Honda USA doesn't honor the warantee on the version produced for Canada. Also, when you change speedometers most states will put mileage unknown on the title.
Canadian Odysseys come with daylight running lights, heated outside mirrors, a low windshield wiper fluid light, and km speedo. Honda USA does not honor the warranty of a Canadian market Ody sold in the USA.
I would put your van on Ebay. Dont laugh. I have already sold 2 cars that way. It can work for you. Infact, here in Austin I saw a 01' oddy for sale for just msrp with under 1k miles on ebay. I almost pulled the trigger.
Also, I was looking at the 01' models from dealers but the time frame for an order was only slightly longer for a 2002. And both selling for MSRP...2002 made more sense I thought. they are telling me early october delivery, are they dreaming?
I also worried about what the price wld be and if I would like it..both dealers I placed orders with said deposit was 100% fully refundable at any time. I stayed away from the DVD...too much TV anyway, dont want them watching on the way to school or to the store. Have a portable combo unit we can use for the long trips.
Also- I told both dealers I will MSRP but NOTHING over that... all the junk fees, titling, doc prep, Inventory tax they can pay for out of MSRP. Both dealers told me they will need to see what the actual invoice cost will be, at least I planted the seed.
And thanks for the info on the canadian versions..another Ebayer was selling the 01's new out of seattle for under msrp...I know why now.
Will update on the progress and info on my 2002 orders as they update. Thanks
My wife and I checked out several of the dealers from Woodbridge south to Richmond. The Woodbridge dealer is offering MSRP + 700 (for 'appearance package); Fredericksburg offers a long waiting list. In Richmond, I would avoid the dealership on Broad St. - we wasted an hour getting a good story from the Salesperson only to have the Sales manager contradict everything we were in agreement on, plus informing us that their policy is to add upwards of $2,400 to the MSRP as a 'market demand adjustment'. Since the same owner owns the dealership in Mechanicsville, I would avoid it also. Richmond Honda showed us their pre-order allocation and allowed us to put $500 down for 'right of first refusal' on one of their September production vehicles (due in in October), adding $987 for 'vehicle protection, mud flaps, wheel locks, roof rack cross bars, cargo tray, pinstiping'. May be a good deal, if it falls through, we will be going back to the Woodbridge dealership.
I know what you mean, trentw1. We are going with Colonial in Petersburg. They are selling at MSRP plus $99 processing fee along with tags tax and title. Ask for Walt Smith sales manager. 733-0700. You just tell him what you want and he will get it for you no extras involved. Tell him the Wetterlings sent you. Less stress, no hassle.
According to my local (New Jersey) dealer, 2002 pricing will be announced "momentarily". They assume pricing will be MSRP unless "the dealers get together at their meeting and agree to a surcharge"! I thought this type of thing was illegal. Anyone from Division of Consumer Affairs watching for this type of collusionary pricing?
This is the only review i could find on the 2002 oddy. Note is says the price should be about 28k fully loaded. DVD option only 1000.00 or so. pretty good deal seeing how they are 1500.oo+ after market.
No dealer can get together and sway a manufacturer on pricing. Honda doesn't operate that way.
Honda IS waiting until the last possible moment for a pricing release because of competitive reasons. You'll know in a couple weeks what the pricing is on the 2002's. MSRP is MSRP, if your local dealer doesn't get it then shop with someone who does.
I live in the Bay Area and have decided to buy a top-of-the-line (EXL inc. Navigation and Entertainment systems).
I would be grateful for any referrals on Honda dealerships in the Bay-Area, Northern California or L.A. area who sell Odysseys at MSRP?
I can put up with very minimal markups disguised as dealer installed options. But then again, with a fully-specified Odyssey, there just simply aren't too many more options to add-on.
One customer decided to get a new 2001 and his 2002 EX was available with delivery date in late September. Salesman showed me their waiting list with description of Odyssey, name of salesman, and customer name. The list is prominently displayed in the dealership next to sales manager's office.
We own a new (4k miles) '01 Ody EX (White) and really love it! We purchased from Morristown Honda (TN) and could not have had a better experience. Then we read about the '02... we will place an order tommorow AM for a identical '02 Ody EX (Nov allocation). The resale value allows us to "trade up" to the '02 comfortably. The 35 additional horsepower, 5 spd trans, 4 wheel disc brakes, and side are bags are important to us. Someone is going to get a mint 2001 EX!
We just got a MB EX '01 for msrp in Idaho. I'm not sure what they will do for '02 pricing, but we supposedly got a good deal because we were a referral. If you want more info feel free to email me at sparkys42@earthlink.net
We had ordered a 99 Ody LX-C but did not wait the 5 months necessary in March 1999. Our daughter wants to purchase our 99 GC SE and we are considering the 2002 Odyssey LX or EX, the Sienna LE, a GC Sport, or a T&C LX. Each van has advantages but the Odyssey at MSRP is comparable value to the others with a BIG discount off MSRP. My sister got a NEW 2001 Ody EX a few months ago. We test drove it when outside temperature was 97 F and the Automatic Temperature worked perfectly. The horizontal creases in seats are MORE comfortable in hot weather than any other vehicle we have driven. I am anxious to read a first hand account of a dealer being reasonable and offering a decent trade in amount. Most dealers expect too much profit on trade ins and give a very low trade in.
The vans you're considering are all very, very sweet vehicles. I don't think you can go wrong no matter which you choose, providing you don't let any dealers gouge you with stupid, worthless add-ons, "protection packages", or charging above MSRP "market adjustments" that are discussed in many postings. Good luck! (It will be interesting to watch supply/demand trend when new Odyssey production capacity expands this coming November).
I find the LA region is more competetive than the Bay Area. Some dealers are sold out and taking orders on 2002's at MSRP, while some others are quoting premium prices, much like the Bay Area.
Just purchased a 2001 LX in Calgary, Canada for sticker price (ARRGH)which was approx $21,000 USD and was prepared to decline the extended warranty offered by the dealership. The 7yr/160,000km bumper to bumper was roughly $800 USD which I thought was too expensive BUT the dealership offered a "DON'T USE DON'T PAY" credit which means if I don't use the extended warranty they will credit me the $800 at the end of 7yrs. The money is only a credit at that dealership but good as cash. Is this a new twist? Did I get ripped off? The only drawback I could see is that I might not buy anything from that dealership in the future. What do I do in year 6 or 7 if I have a minor claim, use the warranty or pay cash and try to get the $800 back?
$800 is not bad price for extended warranty. I didn't purchase my sales didn't even bother to try to sell me one. LOL Question is: What if you used Honda basic warranty within first 36 month, does that mean you make a claim? Regarding the minor claim toward the end of 7 years, I think you have to look at condition of your Ody toward the end of 7 years. Will it be the only one or there are potential more to claim. Goo luck!
It pays to shop around for the Honda extended warranty prices, even in Canada. I have done so, via the internet, and have found a dealership in Canada willing to sell the 7yr/160,000 kms warranty (without roadside assistance) for $970.00 Cdn (roughly $665.00 US).
Now that 2002 prices are out, I will start calling up dealers that were recommended here as willing to sell at MSRP. Based on my dealings with three local dealers that I visited over the past month, I was totally disgusted by what was being asked: anywhere from MSRP+$1000 to +$4000, which did include "required" options/ accessories as part of the "adjusted market value". Hey, I'll be willing to travel 100+ miles to a fair dealer to save $1000. Just have to work the phone/fax/email a bit, that's all. Let's see how this plays out. . . . .
Hi all, I have been a long time lurker in many of these minivan boards and have found out some great information. I am looking for a minivan in the near future. I had it narrowed down to the MPV and the Sienna (didn't like the Ody because of disagreeable past experiences with an Accord) but now it looks like the 2002 Ody might be worth considering. Does anyone have any experience with Honda dealers in the San Antonio/Austin area that might charge MSRP or below and don't make the buying experience something to be dreaded? Thanks Linda
On Aug 5th I signed a purchase order with a northern New Jersey dealer for 02 EX with leather and entertainment system. The deal was MSRP + tax and tags. Today I learned the bottom line. $30,190.00. I've been promised an early Nov delivery. The salesman said the new ODYS are up $400.00 across the board. He said the factory leather and video will cost less than what aftermarket installation cost last year making the 02 with leather and video less expensive than an earlier model with aftermarket leather and video. Is this true?
I am looking for the best deal in the Atlanta area that is close to MSRP and not $1000+ over. Can anyone make a recommendation? I have been to two dealerships and they are not close to MSRP. Thanks.
jimsgold -- spent several weeks back in May/June shopping, and found the same situation as you. Atlanta dealers are awful, and none were willing to bargain.
I ended up getting my Odyssey from Mike Patton Honda in La Grange. I got it for MSRP (technically it was $250 below with a $250 customer fee). They even delivered it to my home in Atlanta. Look for my posts to get more info.
Send an e-mail to Chris Assaf at cassaf@mikepattonauto.com. Tell her I sent you.
David: Thanks for the tip. We are going in the morning to talk with the Autofinder folks at the Lockheed Credit Union. They are at MSRP +$300 and if there are no hidden charges, it is worth $300 not to spend the hours you did in researching due to my job demands. Depending on what I learn, I may give the dealer in LaGrange a call. Lockheed's auto service is a volume dealer so I am curious if I can get a better delivery window on the 2002 through them. Thanks again for the assist!
I put 2 orders in with dealers in austin.. At howdy honda and classic honda.
Both quote full msrp..I am telling both they will need to cover the doc prep fees, inventory tax and registration fees from that or drop the price about $350 to offset. No commital from them yet on the price drop...delivery they said was October.
Typically the larger metro areas offer better deals than Austin..Let us know how you do.
I looked at the Seinna, but they add all the port options (sealant, pin striping, car mats etc ) which made the car 29k+ even with the discount from MSRP. good luck
Does anyone know of any dealerships in new jersey that offer below msrp pricing? We went to our local dealership and the acted like we should be begging them to LET us buy the odyssey. They offered 1000$ over msrp and were really snotty about it so now I'm looking for other dealers. Geez, I wish Flemington had a Honda dealership because they've always been great about every sale.
Would you happen to know about transfer cost if I bought in Canada and transferred registration to Georgia? What is your dealers web address? Thanks Byron.

We already have the pricing on Accords..we are expecting to have Ody pricing towards the mid-end of Sept.

Actually, reading here, it sounds like several hundred above msrp is a GOOD deal.
I believe it was a silver EX (w/o navigation). Not sure what year it was.

I've seen a few at MSRP. Portland OR is better than Seattle for shopping. I'm not sure how inventories are right now, the '02's are due in a month.

May be a good deal, if it falls through, we will be going back to the Woodbridge dealership.
Thanks,
Steve
