Not a silly question. I think the underlying problem is that the dealer is trying to figure out whether you are a serious buyer, and whether you'll shop quotes back and forth.

If it were me, I'd tell Dealer1 that I have a quote for $X from another dealer, and that if Dealer1 were to match, I'd be there to purchase tomorrow. If not, send me your best deal by ___ (some date), and I will choose the one that meets my needs, completing my purchase by ___ (another date).

maylin1 Congratulations on your purchase, you got an excellent price.
I'm also a MD resident and want to purchase the Odyssey this weekend. Can you pls. fwd your quote (or any other relevant information) from Sport so that I can negotiate a similar deal. Maybe I can give your name for a referral credit too.

Pls email details to tee_teeATiname.com (replace AT with @)

    Thanks in advance.

Many people here got very good deal in buying Odyssey with Honda manufacture bonus recently. I like to buy an EX-L for my growing family. But all dealers in Houston area won't like to accept the price as shown in forum and don't believe that is true. I am wondering if anybody bought Odyssey in Texas within a month. Thanks!
  • deejay2099deejay2099 Member Posts: 37
I just leased an Odyssey EX. The selling price was $25,848 which works out to $334/month (including tax) for a 36 month lease (12K miles/year). I put no money down and the first payment was rolled into the lease so it is essentially 35 payments.
This was by far the best deal I could have gotten. All other metro Atlanta dealers wanted ~$380 for those lease terms.

About whether paying the extra money for touring is worth it is a subjective opinion.

You are getting a few more gee wiz gadgets in the touring and also you have the option of getting the PAX which some people like and others hate.
Otherwise exl with res and nav has pretty much what most families will need. IMHO.

About the price , I have seen posts in DC area in this forum which are lower than the price quoted for you. If you are willing to drive a few miles you should use the donkey punch method and I am sure you can do better on the pricing.
One thing jumping out is the $299 processing fee, usually MD dealers are charging 89 or 99 dollars.
When I was looking for similar vehicle, Odonell honda quoted me 30,770 + 99 processing and 635 freight which was 2 weeks ago.

    Good Luck

    Hi All-
I am planning on buying a minivan within the next month and am still wavering between the Odyssey and Sienna. I have a TOTAL of 40k to spend, but of course would like to go under. I am leaning towards an Odyssey, probably an EX-L with nav and dvd.
    Questions
1- Is a touring worth the money vs. a EX-L?
    2. Should you look for a dealer close to you when making the final deal?

My first dealer offer is below:

    Internet Price: $30,785
    Freight:$635
    Processing Fee:$299
    Tags:$193.00
    D.C Tax:$2,253.32
    Out-the-Door: $ 34,165.32

I need to make a final decision about model etc. before I negotiate further, but the processing fee looks too high to me.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks

Vivid - although I do not live in your area, that does not seem to be the best price you can get. I have looked at other postings and prices and it appears you could do better than the 14% or so you are getting quoted. I have seen anywhere from 12 to 18% off of MSRP.
In terms of the Touring or not, that is a tough call. :confuse:
I know my wife & i would like certain options on the touring, (we will be looking in a few months) but the 40,000 MSRP (I Know the price would be lower) is still tough to swallow.
If you can get a smoking deal on the Touring, then go for it.
If you can live with everything that the EX-L offers without the gizmo's of the Touring, then go that route.

Vivid - if you are still not sure, and if you feel ok, send me an email address. I have something that may help you figure out if the Touring is worth it or not.

    Did these include tax?
  • maryooomaryooo Member Posts: 3
I spoke with my sales manager and this is the final offer.
We can sell you the vehicle including destination for $27,601
Tax would be (based on 8%) $2,208.08
    Fees $67.50
    Total out the door $29,876.58

Do you think this is a good deal? Any room for improvement?

    TIA

I am at the brink of purchasing 2008 EX-L, so I read this forum back and forth noticing two deals claimed by maylin1 and Hondawave.
    Maylin1's:
    Base: 25625.00
    Processing Fee: 89.00
    Dest: 635
No dealer installed options. ==> $26349

    Hodawave's: (Honda of Ocala)
    $25937.95

I contacted Honda of Ocala and they agreed on $25937.95. I was about to head down there, but they said that there will be $598 (doc fee) + $40(elec. filing) + $6.50 (disposal fee) on top of $25937.95==> $26582.45

Too bad, I did not get Hondawave to respond to his offer/quote/invoice.

Hope that this summary will help a little who is in the market like myself. If someone found a deal better, please share your quote/offer.

    Thanks

    2008 Honda Odyssey EX $24K, EXL $27K
Just closed what I think is a pretty great deal on a new 2008 Honda Odyssey and wanted to share my info so that you can get the same deal. I searched the web looking for the best prices that everyone else was finding and I used that to scour my region for a dealer that would work with me. I worked with dealers in Omaha and Kansas City but could not get them to come close to the $24,200 that I was hearing about in Virgina. Then, on my first email to Holmes Honda in Des Moines Iowa he beat the locals and shot me his bottom dollar that undercut my locals by $700.

    Here are the details
$29,595 MSRP (included here for laughs)
    $24,000 quoted price
    $185 doc fee
    ==============
Out the door $24185. (not including taxes which I have to pay in Nebraska)

He also tossed in the mud guards and paint protection (whatever that is).

I also asked what his price would be if I wanted an EXL model (includes leather, sunroof, and variable cylinder management) and he quoted $27,000.

From what I've read, there is a $2300 manufacturer incentive program running until March 3 that is playing into the deals right now.

Knowing that this was a pretty sweet deal, and my sales rep was a nice enough guy to work with I asked if he would honor this price if I sent in a few friends, and he said sure. So friends, head on over or use this info in negotiating with your local dealer.

Here is another link that you'll find of interest if you're reading this thread in the future and want to know what the going street prices are.

I have got 32,300 OTD price for EX L Navi/RES at Brighton MI, thats the best I got using Donkey punch... I took to my local dealer...he does not want to sell me anything close to that. but its only an hour drive for me to Brighton MI. I might call it a deal early next week. :)

That $299 Processing fee looks like an internet sales charge. I got one of those when I bought my last Nissan. I immediately questioned it, they said couldnt do anything about it, so I added $200 to their offer for my trade in. When I got the actual contract, the extra $200 was listed as an internet sales charge. So they tried to mask it in the offer sheet, but disclosed in the sales sheet. I guess its a way they justify and pay their internet sales staff. Knock it down. They will resist, but if you show other examples of less charges, it will be hard for them to justify

Anybody with a recent purchase of an 08 EX-L with Nav and DVD - would appreciate if you could fax over a sales/offer sheet or scan and e-mail. I am going in this weekend to play the game. I pretty much know what I am looking for is Invoice of $32419 less $2500 incentive brings cost at $29,900. But I would like to have a back up if they balk. Also, if you got the 2.9% financing or not? kevin@ahic.com or fax 508-497-0724. I am in Mass. Thanks in advance for any help, feel free to black out names, etc. I will protect your privacy.

Thank you for posting price info from Holmes Honda in Des Moines. Can you email the name of your saleman? I live in St Paul, MN and would gladly drive to Des Moines to pick up my vehicle. I am looking to buy an EXL. My email in timloudy@comcast.net. Thanks for your help. I hope you like your new van.

Squashead, I also live in MA and I am looking to buy an EX-L. Once you have bought your EX-L with Nav and DVD can you post the dealer that you selected. I am going to start my quoting exercise next week and will value your dealer choice associated with your evaluation process. Thanks.

    Just for FYI.

I purchased the EX-L w/o RES and NAV for $26800 this president's day.

This is excluding taxes and registration.

The only additional thing on the van was the wheel locks.

    Hi,
Could you email me any information that you may have to take to Sport Honda to receive the price you paid for your 08 EX-L Odyssey. Who was your salesman? We have bought several cars from Sport Honda and completely agree with your views about the dealership.

I'm in California, and I was told that I must get Odyssey warranty through a Honda dealer and not through the third-party internet websites. Is that true? If yes, what is a fair price to pay for an Odyssey Touring warranty through a dealer and for how long should I get it for? This is my first time buying an Odyssey, and I'd like to know what is a recommended warranty (length/price) package for the warranty.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
There's a whole separate thread on Honda EWs. Don't fool with a third party warranty.

Disclaimer first: I have owned four Odysseys since 2001.

Each time I went to buy a new family vehicle, I looked at everything out there up to about $55k. Although I focused on American-made vehicles (Tahoe/Yukon, T&C/Caravan, Acadia/Outlook), and took a hard look at the Sienna, I ended up with a new Odyssey each time. Why? Creature comforts, value, utility, reliability, and performance. In my opinion, the Odyssey Touring provides the best combination of these attributes.

For less than $35k you should be able to get a Touring model with every conceivable option (navigation, dvd, disc changer, power everything, bluetooth phone, backup camera and sensors, etc.). If your experience is similar to mine, it will run flawlessly, pass with power to spare and outhandle the competition. Your Ody will haul just about anything and get better than 20mpg while doing it. When it comes time to trade your Ody in, you'll also get much more of your investment back. I've owned two EX-Ls and two Tourings--once you've had a Touring model, you'll never go back.

There's a reason, actually many reasons, the Ody wins all the "best van" competitions in the car magazines.

    Hi,

Did you buy your EX-L at Sport Honda? If you did could you please email any quote or written price to bij.horwitz@verizon.net. The salesman at Sport is checking with management on the price but said it would be easier with prior information from sale.
    Thanks

    Here's the short story.

Visited local dealer and was told MSRP (lol) and then "2 or 3 hundred over invoice" of 24,063 (includes destination charge but no mention of the $400 processing fee).
Filled out online form on 5 further dealers up to 70 minutes away. Only one internet sales rep responded with $23,266 + $200 processing fee. Visited that day and left (I don't make decisions under pressure)
Called local sales rep the next morning asking for their best offer, but told them I already had an offer 600 under invoice, refused to pay any processing fee, and wouldn't come unless they could beat price by 200. Asked for an OTD price. They refused to give a price but did promise to beat the price. I told them I'd think about it.
Called internet dealer and told them I'd drive and buy today for 1000 under invoice with no processing fee (I knew about the 1000 marketing incentive they had thanks too Edmunds). They said come in, I gave them some basic info so they could start filling out the paperwork, and I got into the car and started driving.
Halfway there, I prayed that God would show me if this wasn't a good decision. Less than 30 seconds later, the local dealer calls and asks where they had gone wrong. I told them that not being honest with a price made me feel like I wasn't in control and that I wanted to deal with someone who I could trust. They responded that they didn't want to give a number because then I could keep shopping. I told them that I was already driving to the other dealer and would need an incentive to turn around. They said they'd be willing to go down 1700 under invoice with no processing fee. I said I needed to check with my wife (the truth).
I call the internet dealer (who has already run my credit report, filled the car with gas, and cleaned it by now) and tell him that his price had just been beaten by $800. He was shocked (they always pretend to be, right?) but finally grumbled that he would match it. I may have been able to get a little more at this point, but I'm not the kind of person to lie or blatantly haggle, but they were also throwing in the weather guard package (listed $400) so I continued driving and called the local dealer back and thanked her for her time. If I wasn't moving soon I may have turned around because of the local advantages (free inspections) but since I'm moving in a few months I wanted to do business with the guy who had done the most work and who had been the most honest.

Anyway, I walked out with an OTD price of 23077, including taxes, title, and tags, and took advantage of the 2.9% financing. The price without the TTT was $22100 + $200 processing fee. Thats over $1700 below invoice.

    Morals of the story:
Invoice price obviously doesn't mean anything. Neither does the processing fee.
Edmunds price can be high (my price was $1500 below TMV)
Don't accept a "we'll beat that offer' offer, because your negotiation control ends.
Pray (for those of you that believe it helps)...
Let a dealer know you're driving to their competitor and need a strong reason to turn around.

I don't know if I got the best deal I could have, but I think I got a great deal.
  • jasonrejasonre Member Posts: 1
I am looking at an Odyssey, EX-L w/NAV and RES. The dealer has one 2007 model still left with an starting offer of $30,500 before taxes. The TMV of the 2008 model (according to the dealer, they were very few changes) is just over $34k. First, is the $3,500 worth it to get the 2008 model? Second, is the TMV a good price before taxes (which vary across the country)? My philosophy has been to buy cars as dealers are clearing out the prior year models, but I'm curious to hear other opinions on this. FWIW, I am in Colorado.
  • gohonda12gohonda12 Member Posts: 19
    Sean,

I'd recommend that you go through the Internet Sales Dept of Sport Honda in MD. They will discount the EX-L by around 3000$ below invoice, the best I could find in the region. This price was also offered by Ourisman of Laurel but from my experience, they play the bait-and-switch game. Once you go into Ourisman dealership, they slap a 1500$ appearance pkg on top of the quoted price. Stay away.

I had a wonderful experience at Sport Honda. No pressure tactics, no sales pitch just a plesant experience with free pizzas too while waiting for the paperwork to be finalized. Thanks

There have been recent reports here and on the Ody owners club website of '08 R&Ns selling for 30.5K or less in various parts of the country. Given your location, there may or may not be enough competition for you to attain that number.

I assume that when you say "TMV," you are referring to edmunds. This is wholly irrelevant to your situation. The real question is what is the difference in price between an '07 and an '08 at your local store.

Just in case anyone on here is looking for an Odyssey from the Phoenix area, Superstition Springs Honda still has a bunch of 2007 Odysseys. From what I could tell, roughly half of the lot in front of the main entrance where Ody's were parked were 2007's.

Just thought people from the Valley of the Sun may like to know.

    Dave :)
  • squasheadsquashead Member Posts: 19
I was in the dealership yesterday. I showed them the consumer guide article that showed the $2500 incentive Honda was supposedly offering for the Odyssey until 3/03. They showed me their internal document that showed this was for the 2007 model, however, there was a $2000 incentive on the 08 models same timeline. Also, when I brought up the 2.9% financing also listed in the consumer guide document, I was shown a document that the 2.9% financing ended at 6 pm 2/24. Just in case you are going in to a negotiation with this information....Also, I believe they are a bit more aggressive with the EX-L than the EX-L with the DVD/Nav, probably a result of what is selling better/inventory levels. fyi- this is in Mass
  • hdaexlhdaexl Member Posts: 4
Yes, there was a lot of confusion with the $2,500 vs. $2,000. $2,000 is what I was told as well. The 2.9% financing ended. What I was told you either get $2,000 incentive or 2.9% financing, but not both. The 2,000 incentive is still good till 3/3 like you said.

thanks for the info about paragon, I'm in the process of negotiating with them on an odyssey as well; will stay away.....thanks

If your not aware ... Honda is apparently giving the dealers an unadvertised $2,000 incentive until Feb 29 to move Hondas. I wouldn't have found out about if a straight shooting sales rep had not told me about it. Not sure if just on the Odyssey's but I just purchased a 2008 Honda Odyssey EX-L in Texas for $28,310 + TTL with wheel locks, crossbars, door edge guards and dark wood trim. MSRP was $33,409
