Got happy fingers in the post above. Was trying to ask if anyone has added front brush guards and rear light cover guards??? If so, were did you buy??? over the internet???? I have looked and found SUV accessories to be the most cost effective and a one piece and look like others at close to 1/2 the price. What have other folks done???

Sorry about the humor, did not mean to break into all the serious discussion. On a serious note, I was in my local auto sound shop this week and they had an aftermarket back-up alarm. Sorry, I did not check the price but it did state on the brochure that it cost less than many insurance deductibles?

I am in the process of shopping for a Sequoia 4X4 and was wondering if you can add the auto-retract electric mirrors, found on the Limited model, to an SR5. The Dealer said you cant buy that option when ordering a vehicle. I was wondering if you can sepurcha the parts from Toyota and install them your self. Anyone done this? I hate to have to buy a Limited just to get this neat option.

The "Auto-retract electric mirrors" are not quite AUTO. I don't know why they state that because I've been it 3 different 2003, Limited's and they are all the same. You must push a button to retract them in and push again to open. Nothing AUTO about that. I don't believe I'm incorrect on this.

kupua is correct. The side mirrors fold in at the push of a button on the center console. The fold back out when you push that button again. This is a feature that is available only on the Limited trim level. I suppose that you could retro-fit an SR-5, but the cost would be prohibitive I would guess. You would have to remove the factory side-view mirrors (and get no credit for them, so stash them in your garage), get both replacement mirrors, mountings, motors and wiring harness for the Limited, the button for the dash, tear up the dash to install the wiring, and then put it all back together again. If you're doing on your own, maybe, but if you're having the dealer do it, VERY expensive. Just my opinion, but if the cost is worth it, go ahead.

Got it, saw them in person today. A real neat option when you have an 8'wide garage door. Just dont want to pay limited dollars to get it. What I really want to know is if anyone has tackled installing them aftermarket.
I am an mechanical engineer and have worked on mechanical an electrical auto issues for over 20 yrs. I know how to read a wiring diagram so I figure there cant be much to it. Anyone done this alteration??

I am in the market for a bug deflector for
my Sequoia that don't require drilling or
adhesive tape. After searching around, I found
one offered by wooddash.com that claimed to
install without adhesive or drilling. Anyone
have any experience using their products.

I will pick up my "03" Sequoia Limited next Wednesday and had the Poron Micro System installed. Their web site is Poronusa.com. I've researched these for a while and this one seems to be the best around. I hope this will work for you, as well as looking over your sholder.

just took delivery on a 2003 sr-5 w/the "z1" preferred package, however i cannot seem to find the first aid kit. anyone know where to look?? called the dealer and they didnt have a clue either.

You have to ask the dealer or notify him that it is not in you truck. It is a post production model which most likely someone has either forgotten to put it in or had itchy fingers!

Does anyone have experience with these lights in their Sequoia? The dealer I went to South Bay Toyota told me that he does not recommend them because of excessive power consumption. He said that due to the heat it melts the plastic assembly on the fixture so you can't replace the bulbs later on and also destroys the wiring harness.

Is this true?

why bother?? the true lighting value of these light systems has been scientifically proven to be less efective than the traditional halogen bulb lighting systems. yes hid systems provide intense light, however it is only broadcast in the plane directly infront of the vehicle. the halogen lights provide a broader plane of effective light to the sides. hid do draw alot of juice, and are a MAJOR target of theft. lastly, have you ever priced a hid system. huge$$$'s! And if a hid unit burns out, you would be out serious jing. if your really interested in brighter lighting, you may want to consider a higher wattage halogen bulb with an after market wire harness. i have used bulbs with wattages up to 100w low beam/130w hi beam. talk about lights! that light in someone rear view could cause temporary bindness! an internet seach or review thru a road&track mag should provide you with some vendors. good luck.

I have my Sequoia for four months. I've installed Xenon lights for the head and fog lights for about one month. I will check to see if there is a melting of the plastic assembly on the fixture. As for power consumption, I have a 150 amp alternator. I highly doubt two two 100 and two 80 watt bulbs are considered too much draw.

I have an Eclipse with more than 1000 watts stereo system on a 90 amp alternator. As long as the car is running, don't worry about power consumption.

Real HID consumes less power and produces less heat that Halogen! The Xenon replacement bulbs are NOT HID as they are just colored bulbs typically running HIGHER wattaqe and those produce more heat sometimes melting the plug, wires or reflector. Some of my friends purchased an HID PLus system that provides a REAL HID system w/ ballast. It comes with a flip-up/flip-down relector to provide Hi/Lo beam. Even these wonderfully engineering direct replacements don't seem to perform up to expectations with the Sequoia multi-reflector housing. Do yourself a favor and stick with the STOCK halogens. In combination with the Fog/Driving lamps, they really light up the road without irritating oncoming drivers.

Has anyone made any off road modifications on a Sequoia? I'm considering trading in my 92 4Runner for a Sequoia, but I'm concerned about the Sequoia's reduced approach angles and ground clearance compared to the older 4Runners. I'm not a rock hound, but I do actually use my 4WD on a regular basis.

I have a 2002 SR5 Seq 4x4 and have not modified it yet(still under warranty)but its 4WD system is awesome offroad and in foul weather. It beats my former 1993 Land Cruiser.

If you are concerned about approach angles and ground clearance take a hard look at the 2003 Toyota 4Runner.

I just bought '03 SEQ LIMITED. I need help in finding this particular bug deflector that I've seen on some other SEQ. It has two "STEMS" that goes around the side of the grill of the truck and its smoke in color. If someone knows what make and price of the product or how/where I can purchase it, I would be greatly appreciated.

I recently purchased a 2002 used Sequoia from a reputable dealer. In negotiating my purchase, the dealer agreed to install a keyless entry system. However, the dealer is now saying that the keyless system is not available for the 2002 Sequoia and that it never was. Is this information accurate? jglover3

Maybe it is not available after the fact, but most 2002's have it. You might be able to use it to bargain more and then have an aftermarket one installed with a remote starter and alarm. It would also probably be alot cheaper.

just installed the aftermarket keyless entry for my 02 sequoia. costs $209, (no need alarm. cos all sequoia came with standrad alarm system, but not keyless entry... i know it sounds cazy, but true) i heard is the car is a bit complicated to install, so you may want to use the one has experience with toyota. i live in the bay area. i used the one in hayward, they did a good job. hope this help...

I have a 2002 SR5 with the single disc CD system. I would like to have purchased the vehicle with the 6 CD changer, however, choices are limited and I wanted cloth instead of leather, so the SR5 was it. Does anyone know if I can get the factory 6 CD changer installed after the vehicle has been purchased? The face plate is the same on the Limited and SR5 so my assumption is the 6CD system is just a physical add on.

Has anyone put the TRD super charger on their Sequoia? I'm interested in buying one but understand they run out of breath on long mountain hill climbs. I will be towing a boat in the Colorado mountains and hate to resort to a diesel.

just purchased an 02 SR5 with the standard single CD player. Would like to upgrade with a cd changer or swap current radio for the JBL 6 CD in dash model that was/is optionally on the SR5 models. Has anyone added a cd changer? I would like to install it in the center console like my expidition had. Has anyone tried upgrading the radio? Thanks

We are planning on buying a 2003 Sequoia, but are trying to decide whether or not to get a dvd player. Does anyone have a factory installed system, and if so, is it easy to insert the dvd from the front seat?
We are thinking that an after market system may be easier to operate....
Any suggestions?

You can forget about the JBL Six Disc head unit unless you are willing to do one of two things. First find a newly wrecked 2003 Sequoia and buy the head unit from the salvage yard. You can do a googl search and once upon a time I had the links to a Salvage yard that specialized in Toyotas.

The second choice for the JBL head is to pay your dealer $1400. Thats right Toyota wants more for the JBL that an nice Alpine system would cost, with an amp. I passed on the latter, but am going to check on the former.

Can someone recommend a reputable supplier for running boards for a 2003 Sequoia SR5, in Atlanta, GA? I bought the vehicle without them since my wife and I are both over 6 feet tall. Now I realize that other passengers need running board assistance.

Also, what is a good towing hitch brand to purchase for this vehicle?

I got the lighted ones from a Toyota dealer online. They were about $500 and are easy to install yourself. They're prepainted so they look like they came on the truck. If you want the same ones as factory they will probably be $800+. Check out a picture of mine in the photo gallery.

As for the tow hitch, I was very disappointed to find out that the electrical connections(wire harness) needed for the tow hitch must be performed by Toyota exclusively. I'm assuming that it is because of a computer chip. No one in Atlanta will touch it.

Very nice job on the running boards. What did you connect the electrical wires to for the running boards?

They come with instructions and hardware. Basically, the harnass is already prepared and it is just a matter of routing. The only thing that is time consuming is the removal of the front seats and console. There are rubber plugs under the truck to feed the wires through. Just a small slice to feed them through and seal it with silicone. Once you do that you run the wires up under the drivers kick panel. Using a supplied T-tap you tap into one of the wires.

It sounds involved but its really easy. Just leave yourself a couple hours.

Does anyone have the upgraded JBL system with 10 speakers? Where are the speakers located. I could only find 6 speakers on the Limited and SR5s that are supposed to have 10 speakers. I asked a salesman who could not find them either. Any thoughts?

I just took delivery of our 2003 LTD and am fairly pleased with the vehicle. I removed the third seats and have no plans to put them back in anytime soon. Does anyone have any suggestions about where I can obtain "inserts" to cover the holes where the brackets are in the floor (from the third seats) ? I would appreciate any suggestions. So far the only option appears to be a cargo liner and I don't want to go there if possible.

Deviyiya-- in regard to the JBL premium speakers; I think the two casings in the front doors are counted as 2 each, then you have the two tweeters on the front doors...bringing us to 6...two speakers on the back doors (8) and the subwoofer which would be 9...but I'm not sure where #10 would be.

there is NO subwoofer........two coax in each front door plus tweeter........thats 6...plus one coax in each rear door thats 4 more.......6+4=10.......

the dvd player itself is in the front console so its very easy to changed dvd's........my kids love the system, you dont even know they are in the car sometimes...........you cant put a price on that!
plus with the separate rear audio system they can watch a movie, use the headphones for sound and we can still use the stereo for cd's or radio...

I finally got my Sequoia SR5. It is the beautiful Salsa Red color. I like everything except the sound system. I called Toyota to find the location of the 10 speakers. Here are the positions: 2-tweeters (those black ones on the driver and passenger side pillars), two speakers per door. This makes 10. Unfortunately, there is no sub woofer. All the sound is concentrated at the front and when you seat in the third row, you can hardly hear the sound, if the radio is at normal volume.
Here is my question: Has anyone upgraded their sound system? I am thinking of adding two speakers and sub woofer in the back near the third row seats. Any tips or advice?

Anyone have any experience with bug deflectors installed with the 3M adhesive tape?

I recently purchased a Weathertech bug deflector for my new Sequoia. However I am concerned with applying the adhesive tape directly to paint. What happens if I want to remove the deflector? Does it leave marks? What happens when the tape wears out?
