after finding this great forum I was able to negotiate our best quote for $32,250 including $1,500 rebate and the destination charge + taxes. They were able to get us the special 2.9% financing from another bank so we could get both the special rate and the rebate. The inventory for this model is going very fast now (they have loads of Tourings left), we couldn't get the color we wanted at any of the dealers for the ex-l. We pick it up tonight!

Thanks everyone for your input on this site! It really helped us find and negotiate our best price (at least I hope its a good one...)

Ods2010, thanks for posting your experience. Yup, paying cash and being asked to sign a credit app, filled out or otherwise, means it's time to pause and ask some questions if you have any qualms about releasing more personal information and negotiating leverage than necessary. With no reflection on you, and not knowing whether the cash-equivalent that you used was a personal check, the Federal Trade Commission does say that dealers are allowed to take some steps to substantiate funds for personal checks. Nonetheless, there's more than one way to vet the check, and personal checks aren't the only cash-equivalents that can be offered.

To giving the SSN, keep in mind that if the purchase price is over $10,000.00 and cash literally means pictures of dead presidents, the Fed requires that you give the SSN. On the other hand, there is a growing recognition by the State DMV's that requiring the SSN to title a vehicle creates an unnecessary risk and some (I believe not yet all) States are moving away from that practice.

    Thank you so much everyone!
We live in Colorado. The best offer we found for exl-res-nav is 33,480.00.
They just laughed at us when we tried to mention about other people get a better price.
Is there anyone here from Colorado or in a neighbor hood?
We don't know what to do with the fact that the inventory getting lower and lower.
    Please comment.

Thanks for the info. I agree you don't see much about the ex-res. (The kids don't want leather.) I asked the experts the same question and got scolded by one of them for trying to rip off the dealer! Not my intention, but got construed that way via electronic talk. Making large purchases is terrifying for me - after all my research I'll probably stick with my '00 Ody EX-Nav for another couple of years - lol! BTW, we got quotes a few months back from some dealers in IL and their prices were the same as yours. Things got rocky with my husband's job so we didn't go forth with a purchase at that time. Still, kind of itching for something new after 10 years and 157K miles. We'll see what happens! Thanks again!!

It's funny, IT ALWAYS THE DEALERS THAT RIP OFF CUSTOMERS, they know the game better, but with Forums like this--we have ammo in our pockets--and dealers know and hate it. Dealers can live on 3-5% profit on a car, they shouldn't cry so much.

    Hello there,

check my post # 25923 on recent purchase of 2010 Ody EX-L R&N...The only difference is the Location I Live in NJ, I believe there shouldn't be much differenc except state required fees, As far as Vehicle prices goes you need to do ....
first thing have you got a quote in writing? Have you checked with other dealers can you drive 20-30miles or more if you save thousands ? if there is a couple hundred $$ differenc don't even bother? it ultimately depends on you from where to buy...ask local people what they aresaying about the dealears you are interested in?
I would assume the quote you got is including destination,if correct then it is a reasonable price for vehicle and options you are looking for. you want to ask dealer to send you an email confirming the price quote and they will honor this price. Here in NJ many dealears have increased odys price by atleast $1000 you must make sure. Ask dealer if can give you Wheel lock FREE ($50) other thing like a remote start, paint protection it depends on how do you negotiate. Are you interested in buying extended warranty? Coast you somewhre between $1000-$1500 for 7yr or 8yr for 75K-120K. you can addthis items and ask to add FREE for other items that you need is most important to you.

    I hope this helps.
    :)

Just purchased 7yr/80K Honda Care policy from Hyannis Honda for $765 (zero deductible) for our brand new slate green EX-L with R/N. The finance guy at our local dealership just laughed and hurled empty threats when he heard of the deal I got.

We've had our Odyssey for 2 1/2 weeks now... love it. Can't wait to take it on a long trip and max out its gas mileage.
  • whigpartywhigparty Member Posts: 15
btw, how much did you pay for the car?
Can I purchase the xtended warranty for the recently purchased (last week) from California?
  • bs1bs1 Member Posts: 2
After about a year the Van is running great. There were vibrations while braking and the dealer cut the rotors ( in warranty ) at about 7K miles. Got the 10" Audiovox DVD player installed by Best Buy - Total Cost $740 including installation. Lot of Space to drop off and pick up from College DORM twice a year. Odyssey's rectangular Box shape gives the maximum volume in this class of vehicles.
  • odysseye_drodysseye_dr Member Posts: 5
    $32,131 (w/ destination)
    $150 splash guards, wheel locks
    $399 doc fee
    $31 title
    $1,489.60 tax (7%)
    $34,200.60 OTD

Go to http://www.hyannishondacare.com and request more info. Then call them and ask for Bob with the phone number listed on the website. Best prices anywhere in the US (as long as you don't live in Florida). I bought my policy when my Odyssey was 2 weeks old. Hope this helps.
  • bigfatchadbigfatchad Member Posts: 5
Went to their site. Why cant Bob sell them in Florida, any idea?
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
    This isn't correct.

Only SOME Tourings had the PAX tires. They were standard on 2005 and 2006 Tourings. After that Tourings could be ordered either way.

I know our store wouldn't order any with PAX tires. They do cost a lot more to replace and there aren't many places that have the special (expensive) tire machines that are required to change these.

I think it must have seemed like a good idea at the time and certainly there are some benefits. Most people didn't think so.
  • cantonacantona Member Posts: 5
I spoke to Bob from Hyannis Honda about a month ago - he will not sell Honda Care to California residents. However, Curry Honda and College Hills Honda are willing to do so.

this is also what happened to me when I brought some honda crv parts at a local dealer, I compared the price to an online store and it was way cheaper. Those dealers really gonna rip you off a lot of money if you know nothing about cars

Hi - I live in Memphis and planning to buy 2010 Ody ex-res ASAP. Can you please provide the name of the sales person in Wolfchase Honda? Thanks.
  • odydadodydad Member Posts: 8
Hey subra, sure I can give you his name and number. Shoot me an email at carterjennings@hotmail.com

If you give him my name as a referral, I'll split the referral bonus with you.

Does anyone have an idea what the dealer incentive if for Honda Odyssey. Incentive should increase based on the fact that 2011 odyssey will be rolled out shortly.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
I wouldn't assume that. Honda is totally unpredictable.

Any time a new model comes out there are always some people who like the old model better and they will try to grab one before they are gone.

If 2010 inventories are getting low which is probably the case, the incentives could disappear entirely.
  • harrymaverickharrymaverick Member Posts: 3
I am not sure whether the inventories are running that low. Local dealers have atleast 10 honda odyssey. Inventories can get low as the factory starts churning new ones and the supply for old ones drop to zero. I was checking online honda had $2500 incentive last year in september.

How is the VW routan which is being sold at 5000 under invoice due to VW incentive. I know VW is buid by Chrysler but Routan. Right now cannot decide between Routan SE w/DVD and NAV for $25000 versus Odyssey EX-L w RES @ 30,000. Please help
  • longinotlonginot Member Posts: 11
We are in No. Cal. and are 2 days away from getting an Odyssey Touring. How does $35891 + T & L sound to you experts? I am told that the "Invoice" is $37k. Can we do better?

Well, if invoice is 37 (and I don't know that it is), subtract the current $1500 dealer incentive to arrive at a fair price. And mid-35s is what most folks seem to be reporting.
Very high 34s is the lowest I've seen anybody claim.

Having only 10 2010 Odyssey in stock is nothing even for a low volume store.

All I'm saying is if you try to second guess what Honda may or may not do you could easily outsmart yourself. I've been totally fooled myself in the past.

Not only that, the inventories will get so picked over that you may have to settle for a model or color you really don't want.

I heard the sales of the VW Routan have been dismal. If you see a 5000.00 incentive that should tell you something. They wouldn't do that unless they couldn't sell them otherwise.
  • nobonobo Member Posts: 305
If I were in the market, I would jump on a deal now for a Honda Odyssey. Inventory is getting lean, so buy now or settle for picked over vehicles.

As far as a VW, it is of course a rebaged Chrysler. Of course you can buy it cheaper. And any resale will be affected with lower values.

We finally get an EXL RES NAV last night for 32900.00 plus tax. Base upon what i found is only 3 of these left in Colorado. This guy had to locate this for us from the other place 65 miles south. We had agree with this price because they don't have any accessories junk on the vehicle.
This is the best that we can do for over 2 weeks of dealing with all the dealership within 100 miles radius. It is came down to the last 50.00 bucks.
Thank you all so much for your post.
    Take care.

In the LA area, Spreen Honda offers EX-L w/ RES & NAV for $32.3k. That's the best price I've seen.

This price looks like a great deal. "MSRP: $41,535 - Dealer cost: $37,612 - Your cost: $33,932! " I wish I could get that in Houston.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Something sounds fishy but if you can really buy it for that, I would go for it!
  • clermontflclermontfl Member Posts: 108
Yeah...I agree...something doesn't sound right--could be a Bait and Switch when you get there, they might tell you that PRICE to get you into the dealer, but then try and make it up on the backend using that DEALERS ADD-ON ACCESSORY STICKER, aka BS Sticker...REFUSE to pay any additional dealer add-ons.....inclluding extended vehicle warranty...if you decide to purchase over Lease. You can purchase extended vehicle warranty if you wish from 3rd party companies. (check edmunds.com right here) for these companies.....GOOD LUCK..!

I got the quote for 2010 Honda Odyssey EX without RES as ODP $27050 yesterday.
Please let me know this price is good or not.

    Go grab it. :shades:
  • adkyadky Member Posts: 5
Sounds pretty good, but it depends where you're at and how the price breaks down. How much is base price (including destination), and how much is TTL ?
  • dummyraphdummyraph Member Posts: 3
    Thank you for your reply.
    I am in NC.
The base price is $25800 and TTL is $1250.
  • adkyadky Member Posts: 5
25800 seems like a pretty fair price, based on what's been posted here.
  • nobonobo Member Posts: 305
You should be all over this pricing. Please post back what you decide to do.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Not really, competition among Honda dealers in the Bay State is fierce. Besides, there seems to be a relatively large number of Tourings on the ground. They'll have to do something to get rid of 'em.

'11 Odyssey production starts tomorrow at the Lincoln plant according to The Birmingham News. If true, they could be hitting stores as soon as next week.

UPDATE TO ALL: 2011 Honda minivan rolls out of Alabama plant at last

    See story here-->> http://blog.al.com/businessnews/2010/08/updated_honda_minivan_rolls_ou.html

They will be at dealer showrooms next month September. :)
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Competition may be fierce but let me assure you, a store won't lose money to make a sale.
  • nobonobo Member Posts: 305
Looks like they like White at the assembly plant. :P

I hope I can grow to like the 2011 Odyssey. Right now I think the rear quarters are down right ugly. To me it is like the rear quarters belong on a different vehicle. And they still have the sliding door track visible. :(

The atmosphere HAS CHANGED in the car bid-ness, Dealers can't stand the INTERNET, the Internet has exposed them for what they Really are.

Customers can sick at home in their Underwear and panties with a 6-pack of beer/wine and Negotiate without going to the dealerships to listen to salesmen with Halitosis and Greasy hair trying to sell them something they don't want or need, only to be offered a coca-cola from the vending machine located in the back near the clerk's desk, the clerk has been at the dealer since it opened in the early 1900's....!!!! Nothing has changed with these goons....!!!

Car buying shouldn't be so stressful, but you have out there these Grease-ers peddling cars :):):)

Does anyone know by how much the 2011 Honda Odyssey will be over the current 2010 Honday Odyssey? I'm interested in the EX-L with Nav and RES.
  • mdx_fan1mdx_fan1 Member Posts: 11
I got a EXL in Central jersey for 28K + TTL
the 2010 models are running out fast , i had to get quotes from multiple dealerships to get the color i wanted.
i was on the fence for couple of months , deciding to wait for the 2011 models or get the 2010
but i jumped in finally, i beleive the major differences are aesthetics and electronics
which in my opinion is not worth the 4 to 5k premium that the 2011 model will command
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Yep, thee are slimy car salespeople and slimy customers too.

And clean cut, well educated salespeople who are top performers with a ton of repeat and referral customers.

Like I was for 13 years until I retired in May.
  • helenl1helenl1 Member Posts: 2
Thanks! Do you know the 2011 price will go down slowly after it is released? Say, if I wait until the end of the year or Aug. next year, will the price be much different from the price in Sept./Oct. 2010?
  • clermontflclermontfl Member Posts: 108
Of Course there are, I had a relative in the industry for 15-years at a Huge Nationwide dealership, and he was clean cut, and had ton of customers and referrals--he also retired from it into another industry where he's doing much better.

I agree, you have slime on both ends, the salesmen and customers--not all are bad.

Guess each side grows thick skinned because they have heard and seen it all, gone through it all. It's a shame, again--buying a car shouldn't have to be the way it is.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Yes, and because some customers are only focused on price they will put up with a sleaseball store or salesperson if they think they can save a lousy 100.00.

As customers, I met some great people that I would consider friends and I met some who I hope I never see again. Many more good than bad.
  • clermontflclermontfl Member Posts: 108
Absolutely, at the end of the day--better to remember the good and forget the bad, good outweighs. good luck to you.
  • mdx_fan1mdx_fan1 Member Posts: 11
i think it boils down to timing , when they release the 2011 model , they may be 1k over invoice , may be in 6 months time we will see the prices as we see now.
i needed one right away, thats why i got it, if you dont need one right away , then you can wait for the 011 model

    Hello:

I am in Atlanta. I ran thru the numbers for a HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L with RES and NAV and came up with 31470 + TTL = 33500.

Essentially I am asking for 33500 OTD price. Is that reasonable or I am being plain silly ?

I think I need a sanity check if I am right or way off.

    Thank you for your time.
