As others have, I emailed many dealerships for their internet price (I included a couple of places outside the metro area because they seemed to have a better inventory and, I thought, might perhaps be a littel more desperate - namely Sussex Honda). Out of the 12 dealership, 5 had the two colors I was looking for and also happened to have the lowest all-in price (car+destinartion + NJ tax + tire tax + MV + doc fees). On the Wednesday, before the weekend I was going to make the purchase I took the lowest costs from each of the 5 dealers and emailed them all back with that as an ask (I bcc'ed them all because I didn't know if some of the dealership were owned by the same entity and that might lesson competiton) - two dealerships were able to committ my ask in writing - Sussex and Garden State. The deal was $35,000 + $780 destination + NJ tax + tire tax + MV + $185 doc fee.
With the new car price basically locked in, I then sent another email stating that I had a trade in and was looking for $x as a price (supported by autotrader.com, KBB, truecar.com, and edmunds values), and that the the first dealership that would GURANTEE my previous ask on the new car and $x for my trade-in would have my business. Not surprisingly most dealers could only give me a ballpark on my trade-in and wouldn't committ to anything.
This Friday and Saturday morning I made the rounds to the 5 dealership to let them see the trade-in and to get their final price. Most came a $2,000 - $3,000 short of $x. I got a bunch of BS reasons why, but was difficult to fight seeing that all 5 were saying pretty much the same thing.
Ends up I got the van for $35,000 + $780 destination + taxes + tire + MV + $185 doc fee.
Just on a new car basis (not considering my specific trade-in value) the best dealers were Sussex (great to work with), Garden (didn't have too bad of an experience and their business model seems to be low mark-up with high volume), Route 23, and Paramus. Note: I had a weird experience at the Tenafly Honda - my salesperson basically challanged my purchase method (i.e. comparison shopping )as soon as I stepped in the door. The were about $1,200 higher on the Odyssey and about $2,000 short on the trade-in; not sure if they new they couldn't be competitive and were trying to convince me otherwise or if something else was going on.
Ultimately for both the new and trade-in my best "weapon" was competition - be it actual or assumed. Showing them what truecar.com, KBB, autotrader.com had listed to try to build my case didn't seem to have much of an affect. BUT when I showed them other dealership's offer or started to leave because I knew I had a better offer they responded much better to that. I literally had a sales team of 3 chase after me to the parking lot when I politely told them their offer was not the best and that it made no sense to leave $500 "on the table" by not taking another deal and then getting up and leaving.
Again, thanks to everyone that has shared - without this forum I would have gotten a much worse deal. And I hope my expereince helps the next person.
Care to share which dealerships have contacted you?
You are kidding us, right?
Anyway, it is the Friday after the Thursday that Thanksgiving is celebrated here in the United States of America. It is when many stores have 'door buster' sales to start off the holiday shopping season.
I am in agreement that prices for any leftover 2010 Odysseys are not going to get much lower. They might even increase a bit. There will be those that find the 2010 exterior styling more appealing and would rather have that vehicle vs a 2011.
Wait for a few more weeks you will see price coming down. Plus, based on customers' feedback Honda now realizes that the design has some down-sides that drives away a number of buyers such as black mirror, spoilers, no inner armrest for second row, no touch-screen NAV, no roof-rack, no push to start button..... they will do some thing in the price to draw buyers back....wait for few weeks or months people if you don't need a Van now.
Could you tell me who you worked with at Sussex and Garden State - I'm in the same boat - trying to locate a Touring edition.
Thanks
I wonder how many months are left for them to sell the 2010 as a new vehicle. I searched about what dealers do with the left over new vehicles, and here's what I've found:
http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/1941732
That's the down side for the unsold "new" vehicles for the dealers - being auction off at a significant loss.
Adv Fees - 350-500 approx
Processing Fee : 470
Tag : 122
Tax - 3% in NC
Doc Fee - 120 approx
Basically, taxes and titles are non-negotiable as they are paid to the state. Anything else, you can treat them as padding for dealer's profit, negotiate down the price even more if they are padding on junk fees. Feel free to back out of the deal if you only find out about it in the financing room. From my recent experience, there's only a $160 doc fee charged, everything else is tax/title.
In your list here: doc fee/adv fee/process fee are discretionary/fluff fees.
I'll report back when I actually take delivery of the vehicle later this week.
I like outside of Philadelphia and I'm getting a consistent MSRP price of $41,535. Even the zag.com accepted dealer (Conicelli) renegged on the $39,990 price which was $1900 above invoice.
This all happened today.
Anyone getting the same thing or something better?
Looking for a Touring Elite and there are none to be had. I am hoping November will open things up a bit.
Same thing - all sticking with MSRP.
You are very correct in your thinking and I watched this happen every time a model changed. Even though the 2010 Odyssey is a much improved vehicle with over 50 changes, there will always be a few that will think Honda took a good thing and messed it up. Happens every time no matter how much nicer the new model is.
Those people will realize that if they want a 2010 that they better act quickly. As they scurry from store to store trying to find the model and color they want, the stores know this and prices can and actually will increase.
At this point there are probably very few left anywhere I would think.
Then there is nasty little thing called overhead.
Holdback doesn't fall to the bottom line as profit.
Reading stuff like this reminds me of the small percentage of customers I had that I despised. Makes me happy I decided to retire early so, thanks!
Inventory will vary be parts of the country and by store. At least in my neck of the woods 2010 Odysseys are almost gone.
Your results may vary...
this time ,price may come down ..
good deal can be for 2010 if invoice minus 10%.......which comes for exl 28k......
thanks

Good luck friends, I hate Van's but this version has changed my perception in terms of looks & interior is well thought through, will be my first let us see how the experience will be, so far on theory and promo video it is nice !!
Here are the best deals for 2011 Touring elites over the past 2 weeks: 42500 from the internet manager at Riverside Honda. I rebuffed an offer for 41370 WITHOUT destination from Gardena. 42400 from Rock Honda in Fontana. 41306 Diamond Honda (never replied to me so he must have sold it). These were all the dealers' "only" touring elite.
I usually try to deal only on email. That way I can print out the email to bring to the dealership after negotiating. Plus I want to talk to them on my terms...like when I want to.
I really hate it when dealers email me that I need to call about prices...that's already a red flag. "Everyone does it", but I buy from those willing to be transparent about their prices.
Hope this helps. Best of luck.
I posted a reply to babsmiller about some of the deals and where I was getting them. NOTE: All of these were the only model on the lot (at least that's what I was told).
I got the same deal from Hollywood Honda.
Can't wait to get the new car, just a matter of will power and edmunds.com!
Since there are no Elites in Smoky Topaz in the area, it would have to be ordered. This is the first time someone was willing to budge from MSRP on a factory order.
I was clear that I could not make the 90 min drive out there until at least next week to have my trade evaluated. I wonder what the prices will do locally as we roll into the 1st week of November.
Does anyone have any experience with Clinton Honda or having a car ordered? How do you structure the deal since they won't have the invoice for the actual car? I assume you ask to see an invoice from any other Elite?
Clearly there are a ton of details to work out, but I feel like it is a start. Thoughts?
Honestly I don't believe these KBB prices anymore. Everyone who is buying including private party and dealers, always wants below KBB when you are selling to them. In fact, when you look for KBB pricing for a 2010 Honda Odyssey Touring for 10K miles, it is greater than what you get from a brand new of the leftover stock at any dealer. The KBB price, I think, is a starting point to negotiate but I have never seen anyone honoring that price. At least, there is some starting point for negotiation. Something is better than nothing.
$38,282
I posted this before, but I'm new here, and can't figure out the link...
Here's my review of Bobby Rahal...and the detailed pricing.
Wanted to share my FANTASTIC streamlined experience at Bobby Rahal in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
They offer their own "Live Market Driven Pricing" on all their models. This is the SAME price for Internet, Phone or In Store. It's posted right on the car.
Last week, I picked up a 2011 Honda Odyssey EX-L for Invoice + $320.00 Profit. (Discount off MSRP of $2925. on a BRAND NEW MODEL!) Also, they did NOT have any inflated "Doc" or "Licensing Fees"....or Dealer add-ons to speak of.) Sale Price= $32,304.44 + tax & tags ($170.65).
My Lease was 36 months x 12K Miles a year= $398 + Usage tax 9%= $434.34 Total. (.00200 Money Factor & 64% Residual), Start up costs= $170.65 Fees + $434.34 First= $604.99 out of pocket.
Breakdown of "Doc" & Licensing Fees:
Tags (Transfer PA) were $170.65 ($123 Doc Fee, $22.50 Title, $6 Transfer, $5. Tire Tax, $14.15 Registration on-line).
The dealership is very convenient to Maryland & Philly suburbs, and is drop-dead GORGEOUS, with a staff that actually CARES about what they are doing, and WANTS to treat the customer FAIRLY!
I highly recommend Bobby Rahal & their great team. I negotiated everything over the phone, and had no surprises on delivery! I drove two hours to get there & it was worth it!
I received an email quote from Frank Kent Honda of Fort Worth, TX. See the response below. Is this for real????????????????
"If you want a 2011 Touring Elite, you will need to get on a waiting list that requires a $1000.00 deposit and there are no discounts at this time, but we do not charge over MSRP like some other dealers."
