    Hi! Joon;
I did not trade in my old car. I just bought the Accord. The car I bought I chose from many cars on their lot. Not the car with " Only one at this price".

    dwynne,
This price includes destination, doc. fees, etc. ....i.e., everything except tag and tax. If the deal in ATL is better, please advise the dealership and your contact. I travel there for my job and could easily pick one up there to drive home.
    Thanks!

E-mail me via my profile and I will pass the info along - not allowed to post contract names or e-mails in the forum :(

The last price I had from them (April 7) was $17,653 (including Destination) + $384 Dealer Fees = $18,037. The dealer in Louisville was sticking with $18,200, but that was his March price as well - so he might go lower now.....

    Tien,

Sorry for being AR about this, but I would be very interested on as much detail as you can give, as I'm shopping for the same car. I would guess this would also be helpful for other people on this forum shopping for this model. If I can indeed get this car for several hundred bucks less than in So. Cal. I would definitely travel to the Bay area to get me one.

    Price incl/ destination: $23,000
    License/DMV fee (1.5%):
    Documentation/other dealer fees:
    Tyre fee:
    Sales tax (7.75%):

    Out the door price:

    Thanks again. Joon.

Hi Thomas, to give you a better feel for the market, I got $1480 below invoice for an 05 LX I4, last month. I'm in Southern California.

    Dennis,

    Thanks for the great reply!

Unfortunately I do not have a carmax in my area to unload the SUV.

I've been working the Internet reps in my area for pricing, and have had mixed results. Seems that all the dealers want to give internet quotes, but rarely actually give a number.
Until last night - I decided to call a dealer mentioned here on the forum in NJ. Within 2 minutes, I was quoted the lowest price yet $23,469 with destination charges. Only additional $ is TT&L. Now I have to decide if traveling 6 hours or so is worth it. I plan on using this to work the locals down as well.

I still find it amazing that people in CA can buy it even lower!

Well - back to the email and phone to buy that car!

Dennis - thanks again for all of your great advice to me and others.

    Hi! Joon;
I would like to answer your question immediatly; Unfortunately, my daughter drove it to work and the document is in the glow box of the car.
I will answer you around 6:00 pm when she gets home. I also give you the name, address and the phone number just in case you want to go there to buy car.

Hi guys. I got my first quote back from the dealer for $19508 + $500 for destination. Is this in line with what you guys have seen, or should I try to work it down?
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
If this is a first quote, what would you GUESS are the odds it is going to be a good one :D ?

    Actually not that bad.

Is this a manual or auto tranny car? If auto, then this is a good price - assuming no high dealer fees. If this is a manual, then it needs some work - maybe $500 lower. From my notes, the destination charge is $515, not $500 even.

When getting quotes from dealers ask them to give you the price for the car INCLUDING destination and any dealer or "doc" fees. Some dealers charge $0 for these fees or $100 - others charge $400 or more. Failing to get these included in the quote will mislead you as to the value of the deal.

Where are you located? Some folks in CA and NY/NJ seem to be getting even better prices right now.

If you have a trade in, make sure they don't make all the profit back on it.

    Thanks Dennis.

That quote is from Rosenthal in VA for the automatic. They also throw in the appearance package and 2 years worth of oil/lube/filter, both probably arent worth all that much. Processing fee is $299, on the high side imo, + tax, tag, and title.

Ofcourse I would try to work it down a little bit more, but with only one quote in the mix, I was looking for reference point for negotiation.

I did check on the "purchase within 3 months" box from the Honda quote request page last week, which to me means I will make a purchase at the latest 3 months from last week, but it could happen a lot earlier. Maybe my understanding of the English language is backward, but while the Honda dealers are doodling around, I might close out on a Camry XLE as soon as this weekend.

    Hi, Tien:

Thank you so much for this information. It seems you got yourself a fantastic deal on your Accord. I will definitely check Anderson Honda out. If the local dealers in So.Cal. cannot beat this price, it will be well worth a trip to the Bay Area. I'll let you know how it goes.

    The EX I4 w/cloth and AT invoice is $21,213 . There is an up-to $750 dealer incentive that ends this month. So $21,213 - $750 = $20,463.

Your quote was right at $20,000 + $299 in fees so about $20,300.

So it looks like they are losing money selling you the car - since invoice - incentive is $163 more than your price for the car, destination, and fees.

Well, there is a 3% of MSRP holdback on the car. MSRP is $23,515 so a little over $705 in hold back they get from Honda quarterly for the sale of the car.

So $21,213 - $750 - $705 = $19,758 as the "dealer makes no money" price of the car. The difference between your quote w/fees and this is about $542. This would be the dealer profit. That is a pretty good deal, all things considered.

I would call or e-mail them back and tell them you want to pick the car up this weekend and you want a better price. They may can take a couple hundred more off the deal to make sure you get the car from them.

A Camry is a nice car, but I much prefer the Accord - and now is a REALLY nice time to buy an Accord.

    Thanks Louise!

I got a great price from AutoWest - $24,670 including destination charge for a V6 EX with Navigation. I ended up not buying from them because they didn't have the color I wanted (redondo red) so I went to Hayward Honda and they matched the price. They also gave me a good trade in price for my '00 eclipse.

Thanks again everyone for the information - I got my car for almost 2K below invoice!

Your trade in skews the price a bit.
  • danniboidanniboi Member Posts: 4
My trade in shouldn't skew the price because I negotiated the price and got a quote before even mentioning a trade in. Hope that clarifies things!
  • jb_turnerjb_turner Member Posts: 702
Quotes can change... When ever a trade is involved then the price of the new car really does not mean much for someone who wants to purchase the same vehicle without a trade.
  • mister22mister22 Member Posts: 32
I just talked with a dealership in Tallahassee and the salesman stated that they needed about 60 cars to begin tapping into the incentive. He claimed they were at about 30. Wow, with only 9 days left in the month, it doesn't seem like you'll be able to get a deal from them. They quoted me 800 over invoice for a 6 speed Nav V6 accord cpe and he really couldn't budge from that. hmm..

  • danniboidanniboi Member Posts: 4
I beg to differ. In this case the price of the new car really DOES mean a lot for someone who wants to purchase the same vehicle without a trade because I negotiated the whole deal as if I didn't have a trade. Then at the last minute threw in the trade.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Wow! They need to get selling some cars. Keep in mind the incentive car count varies from dealer to deal, so some small dealer may only need to sell 10 cars to get more money.

$800 + all the hold back on an expensive car sure seems like too much profit to me.

Stop in with checkbook in hand on the 30th and see if they sing a tune more to your liking?

    New York.
WHen you Trade a car in..is the value of the trade deducted from the selling price of the car for Tax purposes? IOW, if a trade is worth 20,000 but owe 18,000 on loan will 20000 still be deducted from the selling price of the Car when figuring out the amount of Sales Tax owed on the new purchase? Sales tax is 8.75 in Suffolk County NY so this would be significant incentive to trade rather than sell.
Sorry if off-topic..I am debating Accord EX V6 NAV value versus Maxima style and performance,so have been all over these forums lately. :)

I am purchasing an Accord Hybrid next Friday. I am very excited.

I am considering adding fog lights to the car.

Those who have bought fogs - do you feel they are worth it or merely cosemetic so your car does looks a little different than others in the sea of Accords out there?
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
As far as I know, that is correct - and that is the way it works here.

We have a 7% state sales tax on cars, so getting $20k trade in would save $1,400 in sales tax on the new car - or be like getting $21,400 for it in a private sale.

    Dennis
  • bmw31bmw31 Member Posts: 12
    Steevo,

Yes- in NYS your 30K car less 20K trade would have a taxable amount of 10K. Basically, you would not pay tax on the 20K, saving you $1750.

Now if I could just get a good price on the 3.0 EX-L in want. Dealers in WNY are VERY GREEDY!!!

Dick Ide Honda in Panorama (Rochester) and Ray Laks (Buffalo) are supposed to be good for prices. I know a lot of people in Rochester that rave about Dick Ide not only for pricing but for customer service and vehicle service as well. A few I know have gone to Ray Laks, but mainly for price. I would have gone to either if I still lived there. ;)

Without mentioning names, one of them is on my list, at 24,900. My problem is I have a trade which is complicating matters. The lowest price out of the area is 23,367.
My trade is all across the board with values from different websites.

Your message from a couple days ago:

    Joon-
I don't like in SoCal, but I just got an EX-V6 two weeks ago for $23,685 w/out Destination. I used the lowest invoice I could find online and took it to the dealer (Intellichoice) which had a base invoice of 24,028 with Destination. MY car also had a dealer installed options package of $399 (mud flaps, wheel locks, trunk tray). The MSRP of my car was $27854. I refused to pay for the options package because I didn't ask for it ( I actually told them they could take it out!) so i never paid for it. I do think I could have gone maybe $200 lower, but that's it. I also had a trade in but I neglected to mention it until AFTER we settled on a price for the honda. Then we argued over that. I got quotes from two local ford dealers and carmax plus printed out the KBB price and another Webstie I found. I ended up settling for $50 less than I wanted for my old car. Ideally I wanted to sell it outright, but having a trade-in lowered the taxable price anyway.

If I were you I'd get some internet prices. That is one thing I did not do that I would do if I had to do this all over. I have heard you can get rock bottom prices that way, plus it is in writing. But don't let them bs you into giving them a credit card # to "hold the car". I had two dealerships that I called for prices who wanted that. I told them they were nuts.

Just remember the more work you do in advance and take into the dealership with you, the easier it is to get the price and the car you want.

Trade in's are a pain in the butt. I thought I did OK with mine considering I was trading in a Ford at a Honda dealer but I found out yesterday they turned it around and sold it three days later and made at least $3500. All I can tell you is that unless it's a Honda you are trading in you will not get what your car is actually worth. That said, the easier way to get that is to sell it privately. Otherwise you will take a hit. I do know that they will only give you some amount between "good" and "fair" condition at Honda for your trade-in regardless of how great it may be. Mine was actually considered "Excellent" but I do know their policy will not allow a trade in at that price. I did however argue and get the good.

It's up to you what you are willing to accept for the trade.

As far as new car prices... sometimes the guy offering the lowest price may not be the best way to go. The dealer here that told me 23,500 out the door was pretty shady, so I ended up at a dealer who quoted me more (they were actually located closest to me) and worked with them. Their sales team was much more professional and easier to work with. I might have paid $5-600 more but I walked away confident with no regrets (just my 2 cents).

Yesterday I bought my Accord EX L 4 cyl(w/o Nav) for $22200 including destination(Raleigh,NC). Add in tax and tag for a total out the door $22900. Only add on item in negotiation was a trunk/cargo mat (i believe $115 retail). Overall very good buying experience for first new car purchase in over 10 years.

2.9 % financing on 48 months- (credit score minimun 720 is what I was told)

If you don't mind the travel - check out Open Road Honda in Edison, NJ. Here's a price quote I got last month - I was able to buy the car in AZ as a local dealer matched the price: Remember there's a FTD incentive of $200-$750 plus holdback of 3% of the MSRP. You can buy this car more than a $1000 under invoice. Email quote excerpts below.....

I am looking for an Accord EX-L 4 cyl, and plan to purchase next weekend. I am in the Chicagoland area, and was wondering if anyone had a recent (April) buying experience of the same vehicle. If so, what did you pay? If you haven't purchased recently, but could offer an idea of what I should pay for this vehicle, I would appreciate it very much.

I posted this a few days ago. A week and a half ago I purchased an EX-L 4 cylinder five speed with add-ons by the dealer of blue stripe and sun-visor with the sun-roof. The price was 21,900 and a 199 dealer charge on top of that for a total of 22,000. I did not get the navi. I live in the Nashville, Tennessee area.

    Hi
what would be a good offer from me to start with accord LX(auto)? I test drove the camry LE with side Airbag yesterday for about the same price as the accord 21000 MSRP, i found out camry has 6-powerseat and full size spare, beside there is also 1000dlr rebate on it, using the formula posted here, i think i could get this car for mid 17k total. it seems that accord is bit on the pricey side comparing the features with camry. now i am bit confused if i should get accord or camry.

    please advice!

    Hello,
I have been lurking here reading everyones threads and found them to be very useful, so I just wanted to pass on to everyone here I just purchased a new Honda Accord EX-V6 with Navi. MSRP was $30,335 (they added some b.s. options Mud flaps, wheel locks, accessory package(which was pretty much moldings around the door and pin stripes) which added an extra grand. Real msrp was 29,335 I believe. Invoice was 25,995.00. The salesman told me to give him a fair number between 25,995.00 & 29,035.00. I told him I was not ready to buy today but if he wanted me to buy I would pay $26,000 even. I felt this was a fair price to pay. He said thats pretty low but let me talk to my manager. He came back and said 26,700 I said I will only buy it today if its 26,000. He went back to his manager and said how about 26,350? I said no only 26,000. He went to his manager one last time and came back and said SOLD.

So our total was $26,000 + 100 processing fee, license,& taxes. I am very happy with the experience I had at this dealership. It was the 2nd time I have had gone there looking at this car. They were very friendly and we not pushy at all. It felt good because I dictated the price for the most part. So in other words I paid what I felt it was worth. Anyone have any questions??
  • adamhoadamho Member Posts: 32
    Confused,
I have always been a toyota fan. I was in pretty much the same situation as yourself. I test drove both of these vehicles and found the accord to be a much more enjoyable ride. It was a little bit sporty but for the most part quiet and comfortable. The camry felt too big to me and was not sporty at all. It really depends on what you like. I found that I could get the Accord a tad bit cheaper also. All you have to do is go to WWW.KBB.COM and get the price of a new accord. Offer them invoice on it like I did and they should bite on it. Ours has 8 way power driver seat and 4 way passenger seats but we got a step up from the one you are looking at. The navigation is truly awesome!
  • confusedman1confusedman1 Member Posts: 34
thanks for the feedback. i do feel the same, the camry is just not as stylish as accord. if i want those options that camry offer, i would have to go up to the EX, and the price is bit out of my planned budget. This is very tough call. do you mind me asking where you bought your accord?
    thanks
  • lorryfanlorryfan Member Posts: 76
Anything between $17000 - $17500 should be a very good starting offer. Remember the Accord sales were down in March and it's still down in April compared to the Camry.

I have seen posts on this forum where folks have bought the same car for around $17200 including the destination fee ($515). If you pay more than $18200 including the destination for the LX 4cyl AT you are paying too much!!!

    Good Luck

Anyone out here recently bought an Accord Hybrid???? If so, what do you think of power, etc?

I test drove one last saturday, a week ago, and loved it,....so quiet couldn't even tell if the engine was running or not...but am dismayed by the only "4" color exterior selection.......

    Thanks for any info!

Dshmel2... are you kidding me? It's that easy?

I'm sure the answer to this next question is buried somewhere in this forum but I have to ask: How were you able to determine the Holdback and End-Of-Month Incentive?
How about if you plan on taking advantage of the financing that Honda offers? Does that muddy the water at all?

BTW.... I'm ALL over the NAV ;)
  • finzzfinzz Member Posts: 40
Now THAT'S an outstanding piece of information!!! Thanks.
  • bklynguybklynguy Member Posts: 275
We got a quote of $24,495 for a new Accord EX V6 with NAV. We decided to pass when we found out about extensive changes/new features planned for MY2006. It looks like New Jersey is the best place for good Accord deals (very competitive market). We know we won't get a deal like that for the 06 model, but I'm sure we'll still get a good deal.
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
    bklynguy:

I could understand your wanting to wait for the 2006 version of the Accord. But any specific changes from the 2005 are unknown to the general public at this early date. Any scuttlebut about extensive changes is purely speculation, and probably incorrect. Honda is not scheduled to make major changes to the Accord line after only three model-years in production. They are normally on a five-year cycle. That puts the extensive changes off to the 2008 model.
  • finzzfinzz Member Posts: 40
I'm on a roll... Although both Edmunds and Consumer's offer a price analysis at a very reasonable price, would one be considered better or more thorough than the other? Or should I just grab one from each?

I plan on purchasing the Accord EX w/ Leather (4 cylinder) before the end of May and don't want to order the price report too early only to have the info expire. At the same time, I don't want to wait too much longer as I'm sure this could be a rather time consuming effort.
  • adamhoadamho Member Posts: 32
Sure no problem. I bought it at Jim Coleman Honda in clarkesville Maryland. I went to several other car dealerships, infiniti, acura, & toyota. For the money I couldn't find anything that could beat the accord. This dealership is great! No pressure at all and they let you dictate the price for the most part. Heck paying invoice or Invoice minus freight is a good deal! My apr was also 3.9% which is also fair. I was thinking about waiting until May 2nd when the possible new offers/incentives came out, but at that price I couldnt pass it up!
  • adamhoadamho Member Posts: 32
$24,495? And you didn't buy it? Either you are confused at what the actual quote said or you don't have the money to buy it right now. Invoice on that car is 25,995.00. So you would be getting $1500 off of invoice. Thats pretty amazing.

Everyone... I paid $26,000 for mine. Don't expect to get it much lower than that.
  • finzzfinzz Member Posts: 40
First quotation I've received for this car is $21,741. Not sure yet about any other fees at this point as this is an internet quote from Open Road Honda

I haven't gotten any of the specs on this car yet regarding the Invoice or Incentives or anything but I was wondering how this sounded...? :confuse:
