because there are several accord models it's tough to go by these Edmunds posts for pricing. but i think by focusing on the invoice, you're on the mark.

$600 under invoice means you didn't get screwed.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
For me to sit here and remain silent....

Some of these "prices paid" are for real and some are....well..."over enthusiastic"

500.00 UNDER invoice and you still think you got screwed?

Relax...you did better than I could have done!

Well folks, I picked up an Accord VP from Pohanka Honda of Fredericksburg, VA on September 9th. The VP appeals to me, because it's an upgraded DX, but a no-frills LX. Pohanka went out of their way to accommodate me, given that the VP isn't the most popular Accord model. The inventory for the VP appears to be short, but dealers tend to do what they can with swaps and so forth. Thanks to Hall Honda of Virginia Beach for making a swap or two with Pohanka. The color is a neutral desert mist metallic, or just plain beige you might say.

The walk-out-the-door price was $16,972.16. Here's the dollar breakdown:

    Base Price: $15,650.07
    Destination Charge: $515.00
    Dealer Processing Fee: $249.00
Taxes (VA State and Spotsylvania County): $492.42
    Dealer Business Tax: $16.17
    Internet Processing Fee: $10.00
VA DMV Registration and Tags: $39.50

I'm sure prices will drop a tad by the end of the month, and into the final sales push for 2005 models through October. I'm satisfied with my price, and I'm glad that I didn't push the wait period before the inventory was depleted.

The Sales and Service folks at Pohanka are good people. They make a fair buck or two, but customer satisfaction is important to them. Their mechanics are top-notch, and they've kept my vintage Civic Wagons running -- 1985 (260,000), and 1989 (225,000). They've also serviced my 1998 Accord LX (135,000) since its purchase.

Thumbs up to Pohanka of Fredericksburg...

isellhondas: Nice to see you around. I haven't been around this forum hall for a couple of years. I hope auburn63 is still around helping folks.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Thanks...and you did just fine. auburn63 is still here and he does a great service.

The people who have been dragging their feet hoping prices will keep dropping are making a mistake. As we have to scramble for inventory, prices can actually rise to meet the demand. As it stands now, we are down to the crumbs with our remaining 2005's.
  • alexanderfalexanderf Member Posts: 3
Absolutely not! You got a great car at a price that was more than fair. Most prices people say they paid for in these forums are a joke, and regional differences are rarely considered. Remember, people always claim to pay LESS for their cars than they actually did, just as they claim to have paid MORE for their home. Lastly, I hear no mention of the other factors involved in a car deal like financing/leasing rates, or trade-in values. Who is to say that the dolt who claims to have paid thousands back of invoice didn't also pay a percentage point or two higher than s/he should have or give up $1k in trade value to the dealer? Remember, the buyer and the seller are on the same team with the same goal...if it doesn't make sense for both the deal won't work. Try not to be so adversarial for if price were the only factor then GM would still be on top.

I'd appreciate knowing the names and cities of South Florida Honda dealers where you may have found very discounted pricing.

Yesterday I purchased a 2006 Accord LX sedan, 4-cyl, no added options, for $19,500 (including destination) + $69 doc fee. I purchased this car from Joe Marina Honda in Tulsa. I used an "e-mail attack," contacting 20 dealerships in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas.

The dealership was very pleasant to work with. All arrangements were made using e-mail and phone. The car was waiting for me when I arrived, and there were no surprises.

    Hey Guys
Does anyone know when edmunds will have an invoice price on the 06 coupes?
  • bellybelly Member Posts: 2
    Sale price = $23,401.99
    Sales Tax = $1,462.62
    Dealer VIT = $58.34
    License Fee = $72.30
Inspection and Title Fee = $54.75
    Doc Fee = $50.00

    Drive out price = $25,100

I got this from Russel&Smith Honda in Houston. The next best offer was from Gillman Honda on Beltway 8 for around $25,350 out the door.

So, did I get a good deal? okay deal? I emailed all the dealers in Houston and its vicinities. I even got a laughable offer of $25,500 + ttl from Baytown Honda.

    Hi capt41470,
We get our invoice information from the manufacturer, so we have to wait til it's released to us by them. If you use the "help" link at the very top of this page (it's tiny, I know) and then hit the "contact us" tab, you can submit this question for our pricing team. They'll have the best idea about when to expect this information.

    Hey all,

I just bought an 05 Accord LX for $19k OTD here in NJ. I got mine from Joyce Honda. Was wondering if this is a good or decent deal? The car does not have any options installed. Again this is in NJ.

    Thanks for your reply.

Two days ago I paid $22,900 for a 2006 Accord EX-Leather with the exterior appearance package (mud guards, wheel locks, leather stain resistance something or other). Add to this $515 for destination charges, $100 processing fee, $180 state tags and title and 5% state taxes. I can't change the deal now, but did I get ripped off? The dealer really went out of their way to make it sound like this was the deal of the century.
  • jessguojessguo Member Posts: 11
Thank you for all the helpful posts here. We finally purchased a LX AT Sedan (no added options) from Honda of Hayward in Bay area, N Cal. The final price we paid is $17350 (including destination fee), plus $300 for the anti-theft system. After high California Sales tax, tire tax....DMV fees, OTD is 19250. The dealer is overstocked with LX and they have all colors available now. However, we don't like the most popular colors; silver and graphite pearl. We picked blue. We highly recommend this dealer. They are 0 pressure, friendly and very professional. Even after the mechanic & service dept had the car detailed, and we signed the contact, 2 fleet/internet sales managers were cleaning our car with rags and spray bottles.

We saw better deals on this board on LX, but we are happy with the price we paid.

One question for all Accord owners, do you guys recommend purchasing Honda Care on our own? What's the difference between Honda Care and the extended warranties provided by some insurance company, like Geico?
  • 95_tlc95_tlc Member Posts: 17
I requested a price of $23k even (including destination & BS fees) +TTL and it was accepted after a few back and forths. The dealer is in Baytown TX. I love the deal, but I also love the 6-speed available in the 2006 models. My alternate proposal to this dealer is a 2006 EX V6 w/ manual tranny for invoice....... if he accepts it, I will probably go w/ the 2006.
  • obie2obie2 Member Posts: 20
Was that a V6 or a 4cyl.? Also where did you purchase? Thanks , Matt
  • heejomanheejoman Member Posts: 33
    Excellent price IMO.

    Is that auto or 5-speed?

I was thinking about 06' Civic. MSRP + $1,800 market adjusted price? But better Honda for less?

I'm definitely considering it. I am presuming that other than minor cosmetic changes and few more horse power basically still same body with sam engine? Thanks.
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
    heejoman,

You wrote "I was thinking about 06' Civic. MSRP + $1,800 market adjusted price?" Walk away from that crook as fast as you can. In a few months you will be able to purchase the same car for $1,800 LESS than MSRP.

    Lisa

If you tell us the sticker price, we'll tell you if you got a good deal. It was an '06, you say?
  • sirbeedasirbeeda Member Posts: 2
I just got a 4 cyl auto 2006 EX-Leather (with guards/locks/stripe/door protectors) plus NAV for 24,275...Add to this $515 for destination charges, $100 processing fee, $180 state tags and title and 5% state taxes. While perhaps I could have done a little better, I think I got a pretty good price. You may have been able to get them down maybe a couple of hundred, but you should feel pretty comfortable with the price you just got.
  • jfergusjfergus Member Posts: 30
    Sirbeeda,

Could you tell us the name of the dealer and where located?

    Thanks!
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,073
just got internet quotes in Nj on the '06s. AN EX-l 4cyl/5 speed was 23,558 (off of 24,700), and an EX-L V6 6-speed was $26,388 (off of $27,850). Surprised to see a bigger discount on the 6/6 combo though.

3K is a fair bit to pay for essentially a bigger engine and another gear, although there are some other options included (I just can't remember what they are).

For people asking about how good their deals are, I'd say a good (not necessarily the best, but still favorable) deal would be to take 91% of the total MSRP (including destination). Add to that a maximum of $50 for a "document" fee which is pure profit to the dealer--if the doc fee is higher, negotiate it away on the price of the car. Tax and license fees are extra because the dealer must remit them to government entities.

This was the deal I received on an early '04 Accord EX-L sedan AT after doing plenty of research online. Maybe I could have saved a few dollars buying from an inconvenient dealer, but it would not have been worth the trouble.

If you wait until Xmas week, you'll probably save another $400 to $600. In late Feb., 2006, half way through the '06 model year, you'll probably pay about $750 less. At year-end 2006, you'll pay $1,500 or more less depending on competition, state of the economy, etc. These are the approximate numbers I've seen after following Accord pricing since August, 2003.

Accords do not offer factory options, so anything added on like mud flaps, wheel locks, window etching, etc. usually packs the price because most of this stuff is way overpriced and useless.

If your current deal is 91% of MSRP + $50, you did just fine IMO.

Hope this helps some of you..........Richard
  • lisas3lisas3 Member Posts: 5
This sounds like a good plan. One caution -- if you wait too long the vehicle you want may not be available. Especially if color matters to you.
  • lisas3lisas3 Member Posts: 5
Thanks! I feel better. Enjoy your NAV system. I am transistioning from 15 years of driving a V8 SUV. I keep looking down to check my gas gauge and I keep reaching "up" to shift gears on the steering column. I have called my car a "truck" all week and I'm tickled pink that I have a trunk that no on can see into. :-)
  • nash123nash123 Member Posts: 82
Can you tell me if it was auto or stick shift? Also, does the $19500 include tax?

If so, what was your base price before tax?
  • richards38richards38 Member Posts: 606
Color isn't an issue with an '06 because cars will be added to inventory throughout the year. And if your dealer doesn't have the color you want, the dealer can trade with another local dealer. The last 2 cars I bought were traded with another dealer and it created no problem at all.......Richard
  • mevandemevande Member Posts: 190
Did you get a good deal? How far above invoice was it? I don't have that data in front of me, but a local dealer was running TV ad's "selling" all 2005 Accords at dealer invoice.
  • mevandemevande Member Posts: 190
Again "but did I get ripped off? The dealer really went out of their way to make it sound like this was the deal of the century. How much over invoice? If more than 500.00 above invoice, you got ripped. With all the data on Edmunds and MSN auto's all the data is out there. Invoice should be max price since it is the end of a model year. Did you do your homework?
  • mevandemevande Member Posts: 190
    From MSN Auto's

Friend just got an EX at 100.00 below invoice. They have "holdback" money, so don't let them whine re: losing money. Also Honda is throwing some $$''s at dealers to move out 2005's. Don't pay any more than invoice!

    Base Price $20,699 $23,000
    Selected Options $0 $0
    Destination Charge $550 $550
    Total $21,249 $23,550
  • kmcklendinkmcklendin Member Posts: 1
Just got back from the dealership. I bought their last 2005 Accord. Here was my deal.

Accord 2door LX-SE Automatic Taffeta White
    Cash Price: $18,550
    Dealer Documentary Service Fee: $299
    Sales Tax: $1178
    License: $47
    State Fees: $150
    Waste Tire Fee: $5

    Total Price: $20,229

    No trade in.
My financing is 4.99% for 48 months

It seems that some people in other parts of the country are getting better deals, but this was the best I could do. I hope the detailed information is useful.

I'd be interested to know if people think this is a reasonable deal. An interesting thing was that the new 2006 Civics are selling for $2000 more than my Accord at the same dealership. Thanks for the input.
  • hondasinflhondasinfl Member Posts: 1
I think that is a great deal on a 2005 that you won't regret. Looks like they gave you invoice less the $700 "dealer money" less the 300 Doc fee that they in turn added back. I'll say that I could not get Autoway Honda in Clearwater, Florida to go below invoice on a 05' EX 4cyl last weekend. They also wanted a $499 Doc fee on top of that. That would make the car $500 over invoice so I passed. The Central and gulf coast Florida market seems to be a little high right now. Anybody have any luck getting a deal and not just lip service, then let me know. I am really thinking about doing the carsdirect thing on a 06' LX SE now.??
  • bellybelly Member Posts: 2
The invoice was around $24,700 (including) destination charge, so I was paying around $1300 below invoice.
I guess I got a pretty good deal for the area, the other offers I received $200 and $500 higher (out the door price).
  • chetty2chetty2 Member Posts: 7
Picked up my new 05 Accord EX with pin strip, wheel locks, mud flaps and trunk liner for $20345 plus doc fee of $139 plus tax and title. This was the last EX. Purchased in south Jersey. Any thoughts. The msrp was $24110. Bob
  • dallasitedallasite Member Posts: 7
I got my 05 EX V6 with nav from David McDavid in Frisco. Their first quote was lower than the final quote from all the other Honda dealerships in Dallas. Had to do quite a bit of haggling on other fronts because I had a trade-in and got lots of options.
  • williams_gwilliams_g Member Posts: 2
My local dealers have been offering $1000-$1200 under invoice for 2005's and around $600 over invoice for 2006's. This is working through the fleet/internet side and may require some minor negotiation.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,073
where is everyone getting invoice for the '06s? Edmunds shows it as N/A, and I believe that Kbb also doesn't have it listed.

Wow! I brought home my car yesterday, what a cream puff! I ordered my car Labor Day weekend and was given an expected delivery date of 9/28. When the dealership called to tell me it was in yesterday I was thrilled! Sticker on my car was 29,850. I had them add wheel locks, premium floor mats and a trunk tray. I paid 28,650. I did purchase the HondaCare extended warranty 7 yr/ 100K miles with a $100 deductible for $1025 plus $349 for the Xzylon protection package. My dealership charged $200 for documentation and customer service charges, which I thought was a major ripoff. I am located in east Tennessee. I hope that this helps someone out there with their future purchase. By the way, this car really is such a treat. The wheels on this baby are awesome! We also own a 2001 Honda Accord that my 16 year old is now driving, we traded in our 2001 Odyseey on this car and have a Honda Ridgeline on order. We definitely are a Honda family!

    :)

You can get MSRP/Sticker price on vehicles at Honda.com on the Build Your Own Car. The accessory prices listed are approximate and may not include installation charges, however, the build your own car feature is pretty darm accurate for MSRP. The sticker on my car matches exactly to the window sticker that arrived on my car.

    I hope that this helps.

I went with my dad a few nights ago to look at new Accords. He's a shy, quiet kind of guy and doesn't like to negotiate. I went so he wouldn't get eaten alive by the salespeople.

We got there and he saw and fell in love with the new Civic Sedan. We drove a white EX with a sticker of $19,600. The best they would do on the price was $400 off sticker making it $19,200. They didn't have an LX in white or silver (only two colors he'd consider) so that wasn't an option to get the price down.

They had a silver '05 Accord LX Sedan parked on the curb with a sticker of $21,200. An hour later we drove it off the lot for $18,650 plus tax, tag and title. If you are at all interested in an '05 Accord, now is the perfect time to buy one.

Invoice prices for 2006's have not been "revealed" yet. However, it is a very good guess that they will be $250-$350 higher then the 2005 models, since Honda raised the prices up on all models by $350(I think, if it is more ,please somebody feel free to correct me).

So, it is simple:Whatever model you prefer, find a 2005 model invoice, add $300, and you are very close to 2006 models invoice price.

I just got the sticker and invoice prices on Edmunds. This board really helped me out in the past. Now.. Looking for the above Honda this weekend. What do you think would be the lowest price for this car? I really appreciate the opinions. I live in Long Island New York. Thanks!
  • jtauberjtauber Member Posts: 3
shop it on the internet. get your best price ...do NOT go into the dealership. shop the best price over the phone with the internet sales person assigned from the dealer.

you will get the car for around $200 less than the best initial response.

Forget about on longisland for honda dealerships. Im currently looking for $1000 under invoice for the 2006 accord ex with leather and navi. I had one dealer give a quote 500 under invoice. Im holding out for 1000 under. One dealer said around christmas he could do it for that. I may just wait Im in no rush.
  • smokymtngalsmokymtngal Member Posts: 5
$1000 under invoice or MSRP? I am LOVING my new 2006 Accord EX V6 with Navi. I got it for more than $1000 under MSRP, but invoice..... wow, my hat is off to you if you can swing that deal just being a regular customer off the street!
  • babs44babs44 Member Posts: 3
Thanks everyone for the great advice. So, going through the internet salesman is the way to go? I'll try it. Car7: do you really think you can get $500 under invoice, no less $1000? That seems a little too good to be true, but if so.....
Smokymtngal: Thanks for your information. $1000 under MSRP sounds more realistic to me, although I'll certainly try to do better. With the 2006's just out now, I'm not sure how good I can do. I'm in no rush. I'll let everyone know how I make out.

It is very unlikely you will ever get a car under invoice without some incentive from the factory (very few dealers will share much of their holdback). It is unlikely Honda will have factory incentive on the 06 Accord for quite some time - doubt it before the end of the year.
  • robcaidrobcaid Member Posts: 3
Hello Everyone. Just an FYI for those who are bargain hunting. I was offered $17,519 plus fees on a 2005 Honda Accord LX SE AT Coupe. The dealers have about $1,250 in marketing money plus are willing to dip into their 2 - 3 % hold back to move the old metal. So you should be able to buy a 2005 Accord for at least $1,250 below invoice. Actually, I would shoot for $1,750 - $2,000 depending on the car and options. I think I am getting about $1,750 below at just got sick of haggling. I got this bid in the bay area of CA. Good luck and happy shoping all!!!
