Now that I've finally bought my new CR-V it's time to get some accessories (rear cargo liner, large arm rest, all weather floor mats). I've checked out the major sponsor of this page and their prices seem good. problem is that their armrests are on back order and I like to order and receive everything at once. Does anyone know of other good vendors?

http://www.fairhondapartsforyou.com is great, they are an actual dealership in Danbury, CT. If you are local you can just stop by and buy the parts for the same price as website, they also give you the same discount on parts not listed on the website. I liked them so much that I even bought my previous car from them. Unfortunatley, I no longer live in CT :-( But they remember me, and don't charge shipping to send stuff to me anyway.
Of course, someone with Honda dealer style equipment could tow the CR-V away and reprogram the keys, but that is not something that can be done on location, as far as I know.
All you need a VIN number to order/make/program a key at the dealer. Thievs know that, that is why NY press suggested at one point to cover up the VIN number with a piece of paper, but NYS registration lists VIN number on it as well. The reporters were able to get keys to police cruisers and took them from the precinct, with the weapons inside! Allot of dealerhisps require proof of ownership, such as registration to make keys, but some still don't. Same applies to the security code for the radios, anyone can get it from a dealer.
So, if you are in a state that does not list VIN number on the window sticker, and a locaiton of high car theft, cover up your VIN plate with a piece of paper. Problem with CR-V is that it does not break down too often, so I doubt there is a big market for used CR-V parts.
Honda Bloomfield has an E-Bay Store. They are in Michigan. Their prices are pretty fair and they ship quickly. They also are very willing to answer any questions you might have. I purchased a cargo cover and mudguards from them in May and was very satisfied. There are others on E-Bay that sell stuff, but some of them have very high shipping rates.
Yeah, it comes with a smart chip. The car cannot be hot wired, in the traditional sense; the computer itself must receive the code in order for the engine to run. You can connect the wires all you want, but the engine will not run. That is pretty good protection.
Except for the news a few months back that the immobilizer chips are relatively easy to "hack".
"Only careful experimentation will permit accurate assessment of the degree of these two threats. Our cursory experiments, however, suggest that the threats are well within the realm of practical execution."
Interesting article, but of course they either have to be within a few inches of your key, or a few feet of your key and the car ignition to find the codes, plus it took two hours for a special array of computers to find one code.
It has always been true that a professional thief can bypass almost any security system. However, I hope they move to 128 bit encryption in the future.
Hi, new to the forums, and new to my 2005 CRV. I just purchased a base model, I think LX, the middle model with the sunroof standard, but did not add any accessories. I'm now shopping to start adding some things to it. My radio says XM ready, yet when I called XM to pay for it, they said I needed the 'brain'. Now there is a black thing on the roof, the dealer says is for XM, yet I still have to pay $550 for the components? Does that sound right to anyone? Any other more affordable options out there? Also, when I first started building and pricing CRV;s, there was an option for an under the seat subwoofer. I put an aftermarket system in an X-Terra with 10" subs, but want something that takes up a lot less room for the CRV. Now I can't even find the under the seat subwoofer as an option on the build and price sections. Where they removed? I think I saw a post saying they wouldn't be available until Sept, but if someone could share some insight with me, I'd appreciate it. Both on if this under the seat thing is as good as it sounds, worth the price, available or other options. I do tumble the backseats a lot, so I don't want to put something back there that takes up a lot of room. Thanks in advance for any input, and congrats to all those other CRV owners out there. :shades:
The one with the sunroof is EX, LX does not have sunroof nor XM capable radio. The black thing on the roof is a dummy place holder for the XM antenna. You need to buy a receiver/antenna/cables. Check out the site sponsor http://www.HandA-accessories.com (west coast) or http://www.fairhondapartsforyou.com (East coast) for the prices on the subwoofer and the XM receiver.
A more affordable way to get XM is to add a SkyFi or Roady and connect through the cassette adaptor, or buy a XM ready head unit from Sony/Alpine/Kenwood and add an XM Direct adaptor for $50. Even with the installation you'll come out ahead of the $550 they're quoting you.
Avoid any FM modulator hook-up with a Honda stock radio because Honda's FM radios are terrible. If you're going to get Satellite radio you might as well make sure it sounds good!
Thanks for your input and advice! I found out through the other websites that the subwoofer is unavailable until 9/05, which I did read in another post. I just want to know of anyone whom has it if I should try something more powerful or if this does the trick? I'm looking for high quality sound, but I'm not one of those cars you hear driving on the road with the boom booms. As for the XM, I like the sponsored site prices MUCH better and will order there. Their accessories are amazingly discounted, why was I thinking of only buying through my dealer? Of course, I can't put on side steps or front grilles, so if I buy them there, anyone know if my dealer will charge me labor and put them on for me? I still LOVE my CRV, I haven't washed a car this much ever!
Looking at buying a 2006 CRV-SE and cannot find a price quote from Honda on a trailer hitch. I will be pulling one jet ski on a single trailer weight under 1,000 lbs. What should it cost me and does anyone have experience with the vehicle pulling this? Thanks

I assume you mean 2005 CR-V SE, as the 2006 models won't be available until the end of the year.
The H and A Accessories sponsor link at the top of the page lists the trailer hitch for $189.60 plus $47.27 for the wiring harness. The Honda list price on the "build and price" option on the Honda website is $326 (hitch + wiring harness). H and A also has the installation instructions available so you can decide if it's something you can install yourself.
I'll second 'racoons' suggestion. I've bought two hitches from them. The instructions are very complete and easy to follow. The Honda hitches are far more substantial than any after-market ones I looked at. They are also more money. I don't have a jet ski, but my trailer and vintage Triumph motorcycle weigh about 1000 pounds. Both CRV's, 2002 5 speed and 2004 automatic have towed it without any problem. When you're looking at hitches pay attention to how they mount to the car. Hope this helps
I would like to remove the folding tray that is between the front seats and get it replaced with a console that sits on the floor, with cup holders, a larger compartment that locks and lots of room for "stuff." The compartment that Honda sells that replaces the arm rests just isn't what I want.
I only have one keyless entry fob for my 2001 CR-V EX. I would like to purchase a fob attached to the key like the 2005 models have. Does anyone know whether the 2005 fob can be programmed for a 2001 model? Are these completely incompatible? And of course the actual key would have to be compatible as well.
The link blueiedgod provided is for adding the remote entry/key combination from an Accord to a 2002 CR-V key (which didn't have the built in remote entry transmitter), not for adding that feature to a 1st Gen (1997-2001) CR-V. key. They took an Accord key with the built in remote entry transmitter and disassembled it, then disassembled the 2002 CR-V's valet key and put the immobilizer chip from the CR-V key into the Accord key. The Accord key was then cut to fit the CR-V's locks.
First problem - the 1st Gen CR-V didn't have an immbolizer chip.
The second problem is that the metal portion of the 2nd Gen CR-V key is completely different from a 1st Gen CR-V key. They are not interchangeable and not compatible.
The issue is the actual keys aren't compatible... Would have to swap the key components... might be a bit tricky. I'll post if I ever figure this out.
Here's a picture of the disassembled Accord key (from the link that isn't there anymore). Doesn't look anything at all like a 1st Gen Key.
The 1st Gen key plastic is molded to the metal. You'd have to cut the plastic off of the metal portion even to see if it's close to matching the key. The 2nd Gen remote entry/key combination is about US $50, which you'd have to spend before you even know if the remote will work with the 1st Gen receiver, and then you'd have to destroy one of your 1st Gen keys to see if it's even possible to swap the metal key portions.
Thanks for the suggestions. I emailed HandA about the backordered armrest/storage. They told me that even though it says backordered, they still have (??had??) a few black ones in stock. On a leap of faith I ordered them as well as some all season floor mats, cargo liner, grocery organizer and some paint pens. They just arrived (ordered them on the evening of 6/27. The shipping conf email stated it would arrive on the 6th - and it did. Not bad considering I now live in Mass. and that it had to be shipped over the 4th holiday. Everything arrived in good condition and just as I expected. Very happy with HandA.
We just purchased a 2005 EX. The next day I went to Sams Club and got the heavy duty floor mats they have on sale there. I think they are the Kraco premium Multi season version. I've used them in all of my vehicles and they hold up very well and keep the road dirt etc controlled somewhat. Anyway, I brought them home and my wife is reading the manual. She says that these won't work because they have to be attached or the sensors won't work correctly. Is there anything to this? They fit perfectly and are almost an exact color match for our "Tan/Gold?" color interior.

The manual refers to the weight sensors in the seats for the airbags. Honda says that if not attached the mats may roll up and touch the seat affecting the weight read out.
You could simply punch holes in the new mats in the same places as the OEM. This was they will attach to the floor mounted hooks, already in place.
P.S. I thought EX's came with floor mats from the factory, mine did.
The EX does come with floor mats. We just would like to keep them looking good. Living in Wisconsin, it doesn't take long for the snow and wet weather to get them completely black, hence the rubber mat. These mats don't seem to travel much on the floor, but I "could" attach them. I'll look into it.
Hi - I really like my Thule Spare-Me rack. It bolts to the spare tire mount (very secure), and has foldable arms to carry two bikes. Yes, you still have the spare in place. Check out Thule!
WARNING! I saw a guy with a Saris spare tire rack on his 05 CRV. We talked with him and went to buy one at the bike shop where he bought it. They told us that the CRV rear door doesn't support the weight of a rack and bikes. You could damage your door!
Finally installed the Reverse Indiglow gauges in the CR-V. These are Gen 7 gauges that I modified a little to fit into Gen 2 CR-V. WIth the Civic Gauges you lose "VSC" and "Maintenance required" lights.
This is excellent information. I have an '05 CR-V EX and am looking to get a 2" receiver installed. The rack I want is the Sportworks TranSport T-2, so the information above is perfect for me.
Since you had the receiver installed flush with the vehicle (to avoid brused shins when the rack isn't on -- a very smart move which I would not have thought of), did you have to get the extender piece to hold the rack farther away from the vehicle?
Also, when the rack is not in use and is folded up, does it reach up high enough to hit the spare tire, or does it fold under it?
I would like to remove the H from the CRV rear window glass for ease of cleaning. I also think it would make the rear look better. I have taken emblems off cars before with dental floss to avoid scratching anything. The question, is there any pattern or alignment marks on the glass for installation of the H that would look bad once I took the emblem off? :confuse:
I am going to get a cargo liner for our 2005 CRV. I am interested in the Xtreme catch-all cargo liner on Auto-Anything, but their listing for it is for 2001. Did the Cargo area change much in that time?
Also, has anyone had much experience with the sunroof / window deflectors you can add on to the car?
their listing for it is for 2001. Did the Cargo area change much in that time?
Yes, the rear cargo area changed with the redesign of the CR-V for the 2002 model year.
Why not get a Honda Cargo Tray? The HandA-Accessories.com link at the top of this page lists the Honda Cargo Tray for $75.60 for your 2005 CR-V. The one you were looking at is $99.
Hey, thanks for the link. I see that it comes in black. Not that it matters to me, but my wife is always keen on matching everything and our interior is tan.
Yesterday, I contacted several buyers of '02-'05 CR-V roof rack crossbars being sold on eBay by "importonly." I wanted a few opinions of the crossbars before I bought (all were good, BTW). Anyway, one guy wrote me back and mentioned something about installing the bars that I think answers your question:
"...I should tell you that regardless of after market or OEM you might have to clean up the paint in the threaded holes in the roof where your new roof racks will bolt up to. I did that with a M6 x 1.00 metric tap (not provided) You might be able to install the screws without but it could be dificult...."
Yesterday, I contacted several buyers of '02-'05 CR-V roof rack crossbars being sold on eBay by "importonly."
I have bought from "importonly" while the stuff he sells is quality. It is not Honda OEM. He claims that it is made by the same company that makes OEM, but without Honda's endorsment.
As to the roof rack install, if you click on the sponsor link on top, follow to the roof rack installation, it looks like HandA added the same text in there as well.
Yeah, I realize it's aftermarket. But like I said, I traded e-mail with several of his buyers and they all said the fit/finish of the bars is top rate and compares favorably to OEM.
Good deal. I tell you, I'm amazed by how bad Honda dealers gouge you for accessories. For convenience sake, we almost had the dealer put the crossbars on last weekend when we bought our CR-V. I decided to hold off, thinking I could do at least a little better aftermarket. I had no idea how much better, though, until I started getting prices online. Sure glad we didn't go for the $695 trailer hitch from the dealer. Sheesh...
Need some advice about 2003 CRV EX. No existing roof rack but am considering buying rails that attach with straps that clip between window and door. honda dealer prices are really high. Any suggestions?
I also have a 05 CRV. Just spoke to a friend today with an 04. Discussing trailer hitches he told me that Honda recommends a coolant system for about 2 grand before the hitch is installed. Any comments ?

Honda doesn't make a cooling system add on specific to the CR-V for towing. If a dealer is recommending an add-on towing package it's something that dealer has created.
A transmisison cooler isn't a bad idea if you're going to be doing a lot of towing of heavy trailers, but you can find one for less than $200 and have it installed.
$2,000? Outrageous. The trailer hitch list price is $261, the wiring harness is another $65.
I have this card from etrailer.com It says to give to anyone, it has a code XJJB7 saves 5% or something on orders at www.etrailer.com I wouldn't have any use for it, but someone might.
I am interested in installing the Cloud-Rider Mirror All Season stainless round screens on my 02V grill and bumper. I like the look, but my main reason is to protect the AC radiator from stones and road items that might be tossed up.
Has anyone had experience installing these screens? The Cloud-Rider FAQ for install mentions custom clips, brackets, thumbscrews and locknuts.
The picture of the screens states drilling for installation is needed. Can anyone tell me the amount and difficulty of the drilling required?
