You mean the black plastic thing on the rear roof? It's a plastic cap over the hole where you would mount the Honda XM antenna if you bought the Honda XM receiver and had it installed.
The CR-V comes "ready" for installation of the Honda XM receiver and antenna. It does not include either unless you pay for them.

After we got the car seat we found that this baby did not enjoy riding in the sides of the back seat as her mom had her in the middle of the back seat of her car.
When we took our car for service we asked the service tech if we could have the seat installed in the center position and he said that it had to be on one side or the other, not in the center.
Is there any way to get an additional tether strap or belt to be able to use the seat in the center position or do all of you have yours on the side?
OK - one more question - anyone out there have the new Ipod adapter installed? How much did it cost??

Sorry.
I promised to buy my son a CRV this spring. He is so excited he went out and purchased 18" wheels in anticipation of the wonderful event.
Does anyone have 18" wheels on their CRV, and if so, are there any good or bad things to be aware of? Thanks in advance.

Varmint answered it there, but I will add that putting 18 inch wheels will void any new car warranty on suspension and transmission. If you are buying a used one for him be preppared to shell out a few bucks every 3-4 months for new hubs and bearings, as well as replacement rims if you live anywhere where there are potholes.
Not any aftermarket wheel voids warranty, but if the wheel is not within Honda spec it will. Whether it is the weight, offset, diameter, and rotational inertia it has to be within Honda spec for that vehicle.
If he gets 18 inch wheels that weigh the same with the tire and have the same rotational inertia (almost impossible), same offset he may squeek by Honda and get warranty service, but he would have to go through rounds of "no's" and probably hire an expert to testify that his set up was within Honda specifications.
What exactly does it do, and what is in it that makes it "Very good"
I just use Mobil 1 oil. That is pretty good on its own.
Here is the finished result. Notice the ring that allows to change the speed of the intermittant wiper. As an added benefit, the wiper speed is now tied to the speed of the vehicle. In the fastest intermittant setting, once I reach 12 mph, the wipers automatically go to the "Low" non-intermittant speed setting.
Total cost, $35 for the RSX switch.
Thanks to K24RD6 and Norsepanda from the "other" site.
Hint: some people only have 15" screens and changing the resolution to display a larger picture makes the text unreadable.

I didn't think anyone still used 15" monitors. You can hardly find 15" LCD's these days. I don't think 15" CRT's are even available. I guess I am spoiled, I haven't had a 15" inch monitor (CRT, nor LCD) since the late 90's.
Man, I wish I was their optometrist :-)
Yes, the switch is from Acura RSX, which is built on the same platform as the current CR-V (2001 Civic platform). The write up is on "the other" site which I can not link because it has a forum and linking other forums is against Edmunds' policies. If you google for Honda SUV, you will find it.
Dealer won't do it, because it is not in their repair manual. People will have to do it themselves, or have someone do it. If you are in Buffalo, NY or around, I can do it, you pay for the parts, and lunch is on you.
As far as voiding the warranty, it probably does void the warranty on the wiper, but if something were to happen, I can quickly put the old switch back and take it in for warranty work. This is a Honda part, so, chance of having it damage anything is very remote.
There are two very small zipper pulls that might be locked together with a very, very thin lock but I was hoping for something more secure.
I'm concerned that using a plastic tie wrap would be a pain to remove if one ever needed to access the spare tire in an emergency. Also looking for a solution that won't cause rattling.
Thanks for your feedback!
Yeah, take it off and keep it in the garage :P
Even if you put the lock on it, the soft cloth material can be cut with a razor blade if one wanted to get the hard shell, or the tire. I know from experience, I went through 3 spare tire covers on my Gen 1 SE, all from overnight visits to the Bronx.
Also, what size tire do I run on the 16-inch to match my stock tires height? Thanks!
Also, what size tire do I run on the 16-inch to match my stock tires height? Currently have 205/70X15 so probably 215/65X16? Thanks!
Anyway, assuming that the offset is okay.. you'll want 215/60-16 or 225/60-16 to keep the same diameter.. 215/65-16 will be too tall..
Honda Pilot 16" wheels will definitely fit..

I have a 2005 SE (i.e., leather). The seats are very firm. When I just pop into the vehicle they feel firm. After I've been in them for a few minutes they feel fine. I was actually amazed at how comfortable they really were after a two hour drive. Very good support... JMHO
Thanks for the reply. The offsets seems the same according to : http://www.discountedwheelwarehouse.com/Honda___Vehicle_Bolt_Pattern_Reference.c- fm
Don't know what CB means though -- any ideas?
Appreciate your help to not only me but to the other posters as well; you are very knowledgable about this kind of things.
I'm not sure exactly what CB is either... Some kind of brake clearance number, maybe... It seems directly proportional to the diameter of the wheels, though..
You'll learn a lot more from members like varmint or theracoon on these boards.... They taught me everything I know!!

Thanks again in advance.
But, the tires would be 0.6 inches taller... and your speedometer error would be about 2%... which is not a lot.. You'd be traveling about 2% faster than your speedometer indicates..
Again, offset is what you have to worry about it..

The install was a mere $150 from a local Auto-Sound Specialists.
In total I spent $520 instead of the $780 my local Honda dealers wanted .BTW Neither local dealer would match the price of:
http://www.collegehillshonda.com/parts/
t
And Racoon's favorite http://www.slhondaparts.com/browse.asp
Majestic has it for $224
HandA has it for $369
San Leandro has it for $322.
So, you got a good deal on yours, except that DIY would have saved you an additional $150 :-)
HandA has it for $369
San Leandro has it for $322.
The Majestic and San Leandro prices blue quoted are misleading, as they doen't include the mounting kit or antenna. If you add those:
Majestic: $333
San Leandro: $482
The HandA price includes all necessary components for installation.
I found a late 90's Oldsmobille Bravada with a stock/basic self-dimming mirror. I did not care for the temp gauge, as I already have one in the gauge cluster, courtesy of OEM Honda, and the compass is useless.
The price was perfect, $27, which came out to be $30 with tax. I had to grow the harness a bit. It came with a plug and 3 short wires. The wires are: Ground, + 12, and reverse lights. The reverse lights wire is for when you put your car in reverse, which kills the tint.
Knowing from previous Hondas that they come with a camlock mirror mount I was surprized to find that I already have a wedge glued to the windshield. So, the camlock kit I bought for this installation is not needed.(Probably pre-2005 and UK made CR-V's, but I am not 100% sure)
After some thought and the fact that it is 15°F outside (heat wave today) :-) I desided for the time being to just connect the mirror to the overhead lights power source. There are two bolts in the sunglass holder and 2 under the lens. Follow the bulb replacement procedure from the owner's manual to get to the bolts.
Until the spring arrives, I will just use the OFF/LO/HI switch to activate the mirror. Then when it is warm enough to work outside without losing feeling in your fingers and toes, I will rewire it to come on automatically with the parking lights.
So, here it is Self-dimming mirror that looks OEM for $30.

Sorry for the belated reply Thanks for your research/Info Looks like College Hills was $20 more than HandA, but all in all I’m happy to have saved what I did over my local Honda Dealers .My next accessory purchase will be Fog Lights (our Price $238.80 HandA) ($248.75 College Hills)..Though College shipped out the XM stuff very quickly The DYI is a bit over my head, so I’ll have to investigate the price for installing before I order .The guys who installed XM for me might give me a good deal on Fogs Any ideas on a ballpark figure?
Cheers

Most of these mirrors have a daylight sensor that shuts off the darkening during the day. It is a small eyehole in the front of the mirror. Just connect it to a hot power source and the mirror will take care of automatically dimming only at night.
Also, don't forget to connect the back up wires - it is critical when in reverse at night.
I installed a polychromatic with compass and temp on my 2003 CR-V. Loved it.
