We purchased it at a dealer north of Atlanta for $25263. This price includes the $460 shipping/freight. We did get socked $199 in doc fees and the stupid $179 theft etch, bringing the grand total to 25641, but considering a year ago, I couldn't find one under MSRP +1000, I am happy. We paid 600 over Edmunds invoice, if you don't count the dumb doc fee and theft etch. (Though I do count it.. it's money I no longer have). Doc fees in atlanta run 299-399 and several other dealers throw in that etch, which doesn't thrill me a bit. I also got rid of Tahoe that I was no longer happy with for a fair trade and my payments won't be bad at all as I took advantage of the 2.9% from Honda Finance Corp. The car had mudflaps, pin strip and paint/cloth protection already added to it at the dealer, but it was in the above price. What do ya think..did we do okay???

I want to buy Honda Odyssey LX 2003. I live in
Austin, TX. I made an offer of $22000 but the best deal I am getting by local dealers is $23100. I am willing to travel within Texas to get the best deal. Good financing will be icing on the cake. All help offered will be greatly appreciated.

We are looking around in Houston and have a quote for an EX (cloth) for $24500 (including dest. charge) + TTL + fees. Is this good? Seems pretty good to me. Don't know what the fees are yet but as mentioned above, I guess fees are "documentation fees" and the VIN etching. Is any of that negotiable? When we bought our Chrysler car 4 years ago we told them to take the VIN etching out and with some grumbling they did. We are going for a test drive tomorrow and will get all the details then.

eclair20, how long did you finance for to get 2.9%? Need to get some financing, too, before buying.

    Thanks!
  • eclair20eclair20 Member Posts: 3
An EX cloth for 24500 is very good as Invoice on the vehicle, counting the 460 freight is 24763, if I'm remembering correctly. So, they are offering you the vehicle for $263 under their cost. I would clarify before you get there, what dest. fees are, and what the etching will cost as many times this is the dealer profit not shown on the cost of the vehicle. Our 2.9 was for 60 months and they say that Honda is offering this through weds. of this week. Some of our local folks were offering 0%, but then adding $$$ to the price of the vehicle to make up for the buydown from 2.9 to 0%.

Jim McNatt Honda in Lewisville, TX has lots of vans on his lot. There must be a glut of them here in the Dallas area because Enterprise Car Rental has some as rentals.

Don't know why my first message posted again, wasn't even here to notice! Thanks for your heads up on the fees and the financing info. Will come in handy tomorrow.

I just bought the Honda Odyssey EX cloth in Rockville, Maryland for 800 below MSRP. Only other costs were destination charge, tax and tags.

Q: How much additional do we have to pay if a dealer trade an Ody with another dealer or order one for us for a specific color?
We have a quote of $250 above invoice for an EX, i.e., $24,914 including destination charge. Is the price fair enough under the current competition of Sienna and expecting remodeled Ody?
However, they don't have the color, sage brush pearl, we want. If I request them to get a sage Ody for us, either trade or order, how much additional we have to pay?
  • lj225lj225 Member Posts: 33
I did not mean it that way, but you must agree that this is the "pitch" a buyer hears when looking at the Ody. I am only looking at it cause I plan to buy it "IF I GET A GOOD DEAL ONLY!" If not I will wait, and wait, and wait... Eventually I will get it for the price I want to pay. Again if not I will go with the competition. :)

Hey you a selling a very popular car and from what I see right now its in reach to may of us, who now have the ability to haggle the price.

As you mention every place is different, I agree as I see other parts of the US getting GREAT DEALS... then there are places where MSRP is the number nothing less. :)
  • lj225lj225 Member Posts: 33
IT SHOULD NOT COST ANYTING MORE!

With that said... you have your price, and that is what you want to stick with. the only thing I see, (as my first choice is white) is that you have to pick from the stock they have. This is why they gave you a discount/deal.

BUT if they trade/order it should not cost more, and dont pay more. If this comes up go to another dealer that has the color and mention the previous deal. To see if they can match it!

IF this seems like alot of work or you dont want to lose the deal... Pick a color from dealer stock, and be happy. Good luck. I want white, blue or black, so Im hoping when im ready these colors are in stock. But all I see now all over is Silver and Sage

Just bought a Honda Oddy in Maryland for 27900 plus 460 (dest), total $28360. Only other charges (LOL) tax and $173 tags, etc. This is $2000 below MSRP. Tried to get lower just couldn't do it.

I am happy, but wish I could have gone lower. I did however beat the UBS pricing.

    How have other Marylanders done????
  • talltxagtalltxag Member Posts: 8
Went to a Honda dealership this morning in Houston to look at an EX (cloth). Had lots of vans, mostly dark colors. Got a good price but what gets me is the $289 for the VIN etching. Said that was not negotiable, set by corporate. Guess it's just another way to make a profit (like the "advertising fee" we had tacked on our Chrysler). Ridiculous.

Also drove a Dodge Grand Caravan today. Funny thing is, the internet salesman there had on a Honda shirt with his name tag covering the Honda part (part of a big dealership group) and he said that they are dealing on the Ody b/c of the new model coming out, said it will be sweet! Also said the Sienna is nice, too! Interesting.

I'm not even sure if the insurance companies care, and lots of police departments will etch your windows for free. Anything over ~$5 is a scam, imho, right up there with "paint bonding" and those interior "Scotchguard" packages.

  • lj225lj225 Member Posts: 33
"$289 for the VIN etching" when did this become mandatory?

Was this something you asked for? Or something they said you had to get? Forget it, dont need it... it looks like crap anyway. sure you may get an extra $16 off a year or so, but dont let them sell you!

Get the van and like Steve said your local PD may do it for FREE, if not, and this is something you must have, go online get a kit... do it yourself. good Luck

Got an EX-L at Burnsville for $26,650 + tax, title, etc. I used the Carr's price ($26,013) to get to that price plus a free cargo tray, cargo mat, three extra oil changes, and five rentals. I also paid for a moonroof, foglights and a leather steering wheel cover, so I'm sure they made up some there.

They etched the windows, but then gave me the option to pay $199 for the service that "turns the number on" in the system. I declined.
  • talltxagtalltxag Member Posts: 8
No, it is not something we asked for nor wanted. Curiously, we noticed the Dodge Grand Caravan also had the VIN etched in the glass but no mention of an extra charge for it. Honda said we had to get it as it was already done to the vehicles.
  • hislanderhislander Member Posts: 67
Have you checked with McDavid? Last week I saw no less than 50 vans on the lot and don't recall seeing any van with VIN etching. Besides, was offered 3K off the sticker....I have bought another vehicle with them last year and there was no extra fees or any thing other than tax (sales and inventory), title and license. Regular stuff. Good luck.

p.s. are you tall texas aggie?
  • talltxagtalltxag Member Posts: 8
What do you all think of this? This is from another dealer where, again, they are charging for the VIN etch. Any thoughts? I am waiting to hear from McDavid. And yes, I am a tall Texas Aggie! Whoop!

Thanks for your reply. Other dealer gave you $24,451/+TT&L + Fee (what's this FEE?). If you allow me to add window etch/dealer services (FEE) for $300/ plus, then I'll be able to do better than the price what other dealer quoted you. Because that's what they do when you go to take the delivery. What they quoted you $24451/+TT&L, it should come out $26,200/ total drive out. I think they are lying to you. Ask them, since you may pay cash and bring check for the exact amount, so to fax you a "BUYER'S ORDER", showing the total drive out. You will see that they will make all kind of excuses not to fax you, since they have to charge you extra later. I can't do $26,200/ total. Worse come to worse I'll sell you my Odyssey $100/- over invoice. We do business here honestly, and don't charge extra at time of delivery or contract.
    Regards.

It seems like you cant get'em to drop this markup! I would try to get'em to sell you something else for 3-bills :) Fogs, splash guards, etc. It seems like the first dealer "ALREADY HAS THIS DONE" at least from the way I read your post. Strange I must say... but nothing amazes me anymore with the dealers these days. Also from your second post $100 over invoice if you take the $300 option weird to me too.

Simply refuse it, let em know your insurance discount cant justify adding $300 more to the bill over the 60 months financing. Print out an online kit price may be $25 / $35 for Vin Etching ask them why they charge $300? Or just play the game and say you will meet them half way $150 or choose other options if you must.

Good luck it seems like the game is on, and you just need to decide what deal you feel comfortable with.

We picked up our Odyssey EXL Navi (SageBrush Pearl)
this past Saturday. We paid $500 over invoice. We also got the 2.9% financing for 5 years promotion that Honda ran over the weekend.

All in all it was a very pleasant experience. We negotiated everything by e-mail/phone. The dealer located the car/color my wife wanted in a few hours and installed the aftermarket DVD for us before we picked up the car.

The dealer is Fuller Honda in Chula Vista (a few miles south of San Diego). We went through the fleet/internet department.

Just bought EXL yesterday. Leather. Dealer add-on mud-guards. Paid 26200.

My research shows in voice of 26011. Mud guards are $130ish. Sounds like I paid 70 bucks over invoice. 189 over invoice no doubt. That include the dest charge and everything else. I will still have to pay tax tag and title within 30 days in Arkansas.

MSRP for this one was 28860 plus mud-guards. Slightly over 29k.

    I KILLED!

I've been reading the "Odyssey Prices" thread and it appears that prices are inching downward due to Sienna's agressive competition. Is it likely I could negotiate a price lower than the $29,440 quoted for Model EX-L with DVD (damn kids)?

I've noticed that the lower prices tend to be in the south and southwest. Living on Long Island in New York, should I resign myself to paying "top dollar" or is there hope?
  • lj225lj225 Member Posts: 33
Im in the same boat :( sucks to be us LOL

But nope it seems like in the NYC area we have to wait a little longer to get the deals your reading here. I just got a reply back from a dealer and no dice on my offer for an EXL /RES Damn kid (oh and my son too).

I offered $27,500.00 just tad over invoice hoping for a counter offer a few hundred, but nope. One guy here Norman (lapvn) gave me his name, and he got a good deal but not as low as what Im trying to get. He was happy and I thought I was in going to have a shot. Oh well seems like end of next month I will try again.

DONT PAY TOP DOLLAR. I believe that getting $2000.00 Off MSRP is in reach here for us, Im just try to see how much more I can get, since Im in no rush, and I have a trade I feel they will low ball me on anyway.

I walked into a dealer in Jersey last month this time and I was offered $1300.00 off MSRP they would have went $1500.00 easy if I pushed it. But dont give up if you can wait you will get the deal, or if not Normans dealer gave him a good price, and you may want to try getting the 2g's off what he has in stock.

That said "Where are the deals in the Tri-State area?"

I spoke to the internet manager at Mike Piazza Honda in Laughorne, PA about Odyseey EX and he offered me 1500 off MSRP or 1600 of EX leather. I am sure your EX L with dvd would be in the same area. I don't know if that is some thing you would consider. Give me you e-mail if you would like his name.
  • dave_h2dave_h2 Member Posts: 100
Yeah, like everything else, we seemed to have to pay the most for cars too.

I like your negotiation tactics, lj225. Good luck with that. I'm interested in just getting a fair price. It doesn't have to be the perfect score that you are hoping for. Not that there's anything wrong with that. The goal is always to pay as close to cost as possible. But I have other factors to consider. If I could get $1500 to 2000 off MSRP I would be satisfied.

If Norman is reading this, I'd be interested in hearing where you car lot is.

suni2 - Mike Piazza the Mets catcher has a Honda dealership in Langhorne Pa? Interesting. But unless Mike is going to leave the van for me at Shea stadium to pick it up, I'm not sure how practical me buying there would be.

I'm leery of posting my email address here as I fear getting bombarded with (even more) spam.

Perhaps I can find his info by just checking out their website.

One additional element to my situation is that I actually intend to Lease, and not purchase in the traditional sense (I say "traditional sense" because the car actually does get purchased. As far as the dealer is concered, he's sold a car and gets full payment for it. Its' the leasing company that actually owns it, however).

I have leased my last two vehicles ('97 Caravan and a '2000 Caravan - I am now sick of Caravan's).

The Odyssey looks like the best bang for the buck out there. Sienna just a little too big for my tastes.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
You can mark your email "public" in your profile and that'll hide it from most spammers. No guarantees though.

  • lj225lj225 Member Posts: 33
Just in case Norman is out Cruising around in his new Ody... :) you can email me I checked public for now. I can send you the info, and just let them know Norman sent you.

I too would be happy with a $1500 to $2000 discount if I had to buy today. In my case I am not pressed for a car, so I thought I will play the game. I am not sure how the leasing thing will work. You may get the discount but when you mention the lease they may make a excuses. "Oh this discount is only for Financing", etc.

I know that normally when you are negotiating whomever gives a number first loses... So this may have been the case, but 9 outa 10 times a counter offer follows. Did I think I would get the van at that price? No! But damn near close is where I wanted to be. 2% over invoice is what I would like to pay, and this is about $550.00 over invoice. So my offer was $150.00 below this.

I am trying to work up ^ from invoice not down from MSRP. We always pay more NYC is nice but the Prices are killer. Good Luck.

I paid $28460 for my Midnight Blue EXL RES and that was back in March. My email is public. I checked in every now and then, not as vocal as before or even on the Sienna bashing forum, but I still am alive and hand out any helping hand I have.

Andrewtran, your doing a good job of holding up the Ody fort. I spend more time over at the detailing forums with Zaino and non Zaino products.

Yup Steve, my wife hates the fact that I discovered this drug. :)

Thanks for the info, steve_ HOST

my email addy is now public.

FYI, you do a great job with these boards here. I am a moderator on another board and I know what it involves.

lj225 – will be in touch when inspired. Alternately, you may feel free to contact me if you like.

Regarding the lease aspects: Everything I have learned about leasing (I am coming to the end of my 2nd lease now) says the purchase price of the vehicle should be exactly the same. If you are referring to the financing aspect, then yes, I too want to know if there are any differences. Car Man, over in the leasing topics seems to be away at the moment.

“We always pay more NYC is nice but the Prices are killer. Good Luck.”

We do, it is, and thanks.

Why would you buy from a guy who is on the DL. He belongs to a team that is over paid and has underachieved. Oh Sorry, I thought this was the ESPN forum.

Ok back to Car talk, wonder why he won't open a dealership here in NY. Brad Benson of the NY Giants opened up dealerships in NJ and now he has Mitsubishi, Jaguar and more. hhhmmmm

Does the dealership offer any free tickets?

I'm sorry I can't seem to take that name away from baseball. I'll just stop here.

Don't be fooled at the other forum. I saw that someone told you that the Ody doesn't come with a cassette. WRONG WRONG WRONG. You are looking into the EXL-RES, this comes with everything you need except for NAV. It has a Radio, CD player, Tape, and a DVD player.

How it sounds? Don't bother. This is a minivan, this is a BABY mobile, NOT a Babe mobile. If you really want good sounds than you would change everything on the car, from the head unit to the screen. The stock units are good enough. Let me ask you, do you think your kids won't watch a movie in your Ody because it just doesn't sound right? Save your money for a real top notch home theatre sound or put it into your own toy wheels for a real babe mobile.

In my 93 egra toy, I have a Alpine head unit and changer, Nak amps, and JL Audio subs with Fosgate Satellites. Do I blast this thing, no I'm too old for that, but kids do give me a funny look when they hear Jazz music coming out of a car. Kids go for volume, I go for clarity, but this is Daddy's toy.

Our local and largest Honda Dealer has an '02 Odyssey EX-cloth with 11K miles...but it is a Canadian model.

FYI, I have purchased 2 cars from them previously. Here is their offer: they will add leather and a six-year bumper to bumper warranty (not a certified warranty, but a standard 3rd party warranty)and sell it for $25K.

Your thoughts of purchasing a Canadian model from a high volume dealer vs. independent dealer.

    Thanx...

The only major issue I can see is that US recalls would not be extended to this vehicle. Also, is the speedo in kph or mph? If it has been changed out to mph, it may be considered a TMU (total mileage unknown) unit which will kill resale.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
for that much money you can get a brand new EX Cloth made for US Market and don't have to worry about the car. The 6 year warranty, tell them you want Honda, and see what they say. From what I understand warranty is void if you buy a Canadian Market Ody here in the US.
Ody's aren't MSRP anymore. Pass on it. When I was searching for my Ody back in March, I could have gotten the EX Cloth for $25490, 2003 brand new, and that was back in March.
That at least is my opinion.

LOL! You must be a Yankees fan (like me)

Piazza can still hit the long ball (which as we all know, “chicks dig”)

“Does the dealership offer any free tickets?”

    Good question.

Good. Bootleg Allman Brothers Band tapes are still relevant.

Well – the DVD is for *them*. The only thing left for me is my “tunes and sports programming up front”. Let me at least have that!

Your other car sounds great. Perhaps someday for me. As it is now, I spend far too much time on the computer to have any other interests. But that’s a whole ‘nother discussion.

Just wanted to say because of all the great info posted on this board, we were able to purchase an EXL w/ Nav yesterday (Wed) for $500 over invoice ($28308) plus got some seat latch caps thrown in free (we plan on taking one middle seat out and so have to cover up the four latch bolts left by the void). The dealer claimed these cost $15-20 each, but I'm skeptical - guess it's moot at this point.

Eclair20 posted that the special Honda 2.9% financing for 5 years was ending Wed, so was able to qualify for that that as well (thanks).

Anyway, the dealer was in southern California - Keyes Honda in Woodland Hills, and we went thru the Internet dept.

    Thanks again all,

    John

Thanks to all of your posts here, I finally bought an EX-L today. Dealer installed $1,300 worth of options (Mud Guards, Cross Bars, Wheel Lock, Door Edges, etc.) to arrive at the MSRP of $29,700 + Freight $460.

I paid $26,892 +$460+Tax/Tag...after negotiating for 3 hours. I had asked for $26,500, but dealer wouldn't go down anymore. I am still not sure if I overpaid.

Dealer wants to sell me the 7yr/100K Honda Care for $1,950 ( after giving me $1,000 off)... I thought it was a rip-off. Anyone know what is the fair price for the 7yr/100k Honda Care? Should I get it? Does it cover the power sliding doors?

I want to thank everyone on this board for providing good information on the prices.
  • lj225lj225 Member Posts: 33
Wow thats high. you can get it for $900
this would be a 7 year/100K/ 0 deductible. So hes charging a grand more, you decide.

I dont know if you can say from where here... but email me and I will point you the place, this way you can call and find out your self.

Just bought an EX-L (w/leather) over the phone from Carr's Honda in Chicago and am having it shipped to Mpls. for $200.

Go to their website and click on internet specials and you'll see their price.

I found this information from this discussion board - thanks to whoever brought it up first!

    Good luck and happy shopping!
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
You need to figure out if all these items are worth the extra 1300. Only you can decide on that, but you can get the pricing on all Ody Accy. through various honda accy sites. There are a few of them.

    Just to start
Mud Guards - These are only $58 and easy to install
Cross Bars - You may want to look into other brands to get better quality, THULE or Yakima
    Wheel Lock - $24 bucks
Door Edges - I think these go for like $10
The rest I hope is something like Fog Lights $300, Fender Wells $100, Backup Senson $400, I mean what else can we add.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
If you buy the warranty from him, I own this bridge that I can sell you for cheap if you want. The Bridge is called the Brooklyn Bridge. Let me know what your offer is. :)

Ya man, that is extremely high, even if it is a Honda Warranty.
  • dave_h2dave_h2 Member Posts: 100
Steve – how does someone living in Boise Idaho get to be a Mets fan?

Are you saying I should buy from Mike Piazza? ;-)

As for the Devils – they will be rasing the Cup for a third time. But the Scott who deserves special mention is 18 year vet Scott Stevens. Has there ever been a greater captain?

As for Car Man in the lease discussions – he is my true “guru”.

lj225 – thanks for your guidance and advice so far. As always, keep me posted.

lapvn – I own a piece of that bridge as well. So I expect my cut once sold.

Very Cool! I bought my 03 EXL-RES at the end of April from Carrs as well (I now live in Apple Valley). Got it for the same deal (Invoice + $2). I happened to be there (in Chicago) so I bought it off the lot and drove it home. With the exception of a "typical Chicago car finance guy" (I can say that - I grew up on the far north-west side), my experience was great!

Let us know how the shipping turns out. I had one small issue as I was about to drive away: there was a small (1/2 inch) scratch in the rear bumper where they had pulled another vehicle too close and the license plate holder hit. No big deal though - they just cut me a check before I left...

So... Was the experience with Honda around MN just not so good? Let us know...

    Enjoy!
