Dang, didn't realize that prices were that low on the '04s. I was planning on waiting until late summer to decide between the '04 and the redesigned '05, I may have to rethink my plan.
Any guess on how long the low prices on '04s will continue? I believe that dealerships have been lowering their prices in order to sell more, thus being able to get more '05s (which will sell at MSRP for a while, I believe).
But i checked all and i found that the vehical was perfect and was a usa vehical warrenteed with american honda. called them up to make sure that. There were only 80 miles on it and i am absolutely sure that it is perfect just that it was 2003 model...........
now planning to install dvd on it so.......hopefully by next month.
good luck to all you guys.. You all really helped me making this deal a success.
Thanks

That's incredible. You meant you got an EX-L for more than $2500 under invoice !!!! You're sure it's new right???
Pardon my ignorance..I can understand the CD changer but what is a remote starter.. is it the keyless entry. I thought the EX-L has this feature already. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I just bought myself 2004 Honda Odyssey EX, for $24,600 plus tax/title/license. Included dealer added paint/fabric sealant, $795 value.
Of course I did shopping around, got prices from two different dealers, AND (very important) shopped at the last day of the month. Seems that dealers HAVE to make whatever deal to sell before the month ends, or they loose money on van siting on their dealership. My dealer even extended the warranty from 3/36 to 5/60, although it had $50 deductible, no problem, extension to 5 years makes it worth it.
By the way, it handles beautifully. Way more roomy than sienna. Feels more solid also.
I read the install instructions for the full Honda package. It seemed do able but there are a lot of steps required before you get the job done.
It appears that the 04 Sienna currently has the towing kit (less the hitch) as standard equipment. All you have to do is install the hitch and the wiring.
Yes keyless entry is the feature in exl but not this which i am talking......

Keyless entry is different and this feature is different as stated above You press some buttton on the remote and the car starts, meaning you can warm it up/cool it down before you get in, depending on the weather.

state?
Post 5009 is a good example of this.
Assuming the poster is for real and not a disgruntled ex-employee or a competitor down the street, what really transpired could be FAR different than the story that was posted.
"Bait and Switch" is a serious thing to accuse a retail business of in a public forum.

My posture on this would (and has been) be the same no matter the make.
Of course, it's your responsibility to read contracts before signing them. Still, there is NO EXCUSE for underhanded treatment by any business.
My point was this...the post I was responding to could have been bogus. If that poster was, in fact, for real, the dealership in question may, in fact, have made an honest mistake. It happens to the best of businesses. This is hardly "Bait and Switch"...BIG difference.
There are usually at least two sides to every story.
23,984 base price
490 dest. charge
5% tax
and other fees that i really didn't bother about because after spending 2 hours at the dealership i was already having a headache and i really wanted to go home.
they also gave me a lo jack ($990.00)that i really don't know nothing about and life and disability insurance. An extended service contract worth 1,589.00. after reading some posts here i realized that i have paid too much for the extended warranty and i would really like to cancel. my concern is can i do that after signing the contract?
thanks for any input.
Dealer's Tricks - bait & switch, etc.
Must be a lot of salespeople out there knocking the competition by posting phony stories!
Of course, it really isn't funny at all.

Years ago, I remember a store in L.A. got caught doing this. They would advertise a used car for well below the market value for similar cars.
They would do things such as mix up plug wires to make the car run poorly. Of course, prospective buyers would be turned off.
They would be told..." what did you expect for that price?" and would be encouraged to look at other cars that of course were more money and in better condition.
I would like to think this practice is long gone...perhaps not.
Big difference between this and making an honest mistake. That was my point.
Most dealerships make an honest living and treat their customers well.
Frankly, I think it's a bit disingenuous of you to suggest otherwise, especially since you're in a position to hear all the war stories.
Bait and Switch: The Oldest Trick in the Book

Of course, articles like that do a good job of painting the entire industry with the same broad brush...wouldn't you agree?
If you have read many of my posts in other forums I think you would realize that I dispise underhanded tactics. It gives all of us a black eye.
A lot of successful dealerships have been major contributors to their communties for years. These places depend on repeat and referral business for continued growth.
A great reputation is earned one satisfied customer at a time.
I agree that most dealers are real assets to their community, not to mention all the employees they employ.
Town Hall & Edmunds is just trying to educate people how to recognize and deal with the bad apples.
So, anyone gotten a good deal on an Odyssey this weekend?

Anyway, both cars are great and we just like the newer model since 2005 Ody is around the corner.
From reading the posts in this board I've found that between $850-900 for a 7yr/100k warranty is a good deal.
I'm looking around for a EX cloth as well. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
2. Demand for Out-the-door price. (set your price(otd) really low and work the way up)
3. Create a quick and short Excel spreadsheet for quick calculation.
It works for me.
We told them that we were ready to trade our Durango on an EX-L that day, wanted them to check their inventory and give us a price. An hour and 45 minutes later, we still had neither. After threatening to walk out, they produced a van and a quote (about $5500 more than what we were expecting). In front of the salesman, I called the Dodge dealer where we purchased the Durango (Vigo Dodge in Terre Haute) and asked the owner (who we dealt with when we purchased it) what he would give us for it. He gave me a price range which I was expecting. I told Penske (oops, there's the name of the dealer!) what I was told by the Dodge dealer. We told them, you match the price on the Durango, and we'll purchase the Ody at invoice + $200 that day. They replied, in not so many words, take the van (which magically appeared) for a couple of hours, and we'll see if we can match that price.
While driving the Ody (Black / Grey leather), we called the Honda dealer in Terre Haute. Years ago, my wife knew the owner, and knew he was a straight up kinda guy. After telling him what we were looking for, and after a discussion with the Dodge dealer in TH, we all decided that if the Honda dealer didn't want our Durango, the Dodge dealer would buy it from the Honda dealer.
When we returned to Penske, they said that hadn't been able to match the deal we wanted, but they wanted us to return on Saturday to "work on it some more."
We had enough of that. Saturday AM; road trip time to Terre Haute. First stop, Vigo Dodge...
After some small talk, they look at our van and give us a price which was at the low range of what we were expecting to get for it. They said that if Honda doesn't want it, they'll buy it from them. To spark some friendly competition, they offer to show us an '05 Grand Caravan, which now has third row fold-down-in-the-floor seats. In addition to the third row, they also now have 2nd row buckets that fold into the floor. Very nice, but a useless feature for us (kids).
Stop two: Thompson's Honda. We arrive, and one of the salesmen greets us by name as we walk in the door (they knew we were coming and what we were driving). We talk with the owner while the salesman warms up a van for us. We swap keys so they can look at our truck while we drive the van. We return ten minutes later, and they've got a single price on a piece of paper. It's the cost + our truck, and it's about $500 less than what I had originally wanted, and a full $6,000 less than Penske's first offer. To boot, they're giving us, when calculated, more than the Dodge dealer for our truck. Apparently one of the sales managers feels they can get more for it so they're passing some of it along to us. They also mention that Honda now has 3.65% financing. Since we had lunch plans that were being encroached on, they took our credit info and said everything would be ready for us to sign after lunch.
We return an hour later, spend 10 minutes signing papers, 10 minutes swapping items, and we were out the door in our new Ody. Oh, and to top it off, they sold us a bug deflector and mud flaps for cost.
Bottom line:
Red / Ivory EXL at Invoice
$500 over KBB for our Durango
3.65% Honda Financing
Thompson's Honda in Terre Haute - highly recommended
Penske Honda in Indy - Never setting foot in there again.
Our new Ody - Priceless.

Thanks for your help,
Mike
36 mo lease
Price: 25500.00
Freight: 490.00
Residual 0.61
Money Factor: .00191
Sec Deposit: 0.00
Adj Residual: 17777.00
Monthly Payment: 331.98
Total Initial Payment: 1314.90 (includes VA sales tax $779.70, Processing Fee $100, first month payment and tags and title)
The dealer threw in driver side armrest with storage, total dealer cost maybe $70.
No trade-in.
Asked the Fairfax Honda to match the deal and they refused. They wanted another $52 in county sales tax, $200 additional processing fee and no armrest. Ourisman is also advertising EX lease for $299/mo with 0 down, not even the security deposit. This is even better than the EX incentive listed by Edmunds.
The lease is a great option for families like ours, where my wife wanted the Quest or Sienna and I was afraid of Quest’s quality and Sienna’s price. Hopefully in three years Honda, Toyota and DC will bloody each other to the point where I will be able to get the Sienna at invoice minus one to two thousand in incentives.
Honda Odyssey EX Cloth
Mud Flaps, Door Edge & Wheel-Well Guards, Wheel Lug Locks, Trunk Tray
$25,200
I contacted several dealerships and nobody was willing to go below that #.
Additionally, I was shopping for the Sienna in the Seattle area. The best deal I could get was:
Sienna LE, 7 Passenger, FWD
Package #4, floor mats
$25,350
But since I didn't purchase the minivan I don't know for sure if they would have really sold it for that price. I have found that dealerships don't always live up to their price quotes.
in reply to:
Could you post the dealer's name, city and
state?
I invited quotes via email. Some were very responsive, breaking out the numbers in the manner I requested. Others didn't and wanted me to come in and talk to them so they could "give me the best service" (they lost my business!) I picked the best numbers and shortlisted the dealers. Went in and made sure they gave me the deal they offered via email.
Caveat: they do try (very hard) to sell you extended warranty or get you to finance thru them. Also, if you want any accessories installed, have them do it (to your satisfaction) before you pay and take delivery.
This board has been very helpful to me in my search and I wanted to return the favor by sharing my experience.
Thanks to all and I will try to stay tuned.
I just signed up so this is my first time using the Town Hall.
My question is the Honda Factory Holdback. Is it
2% or 3%. If have the answer can you share with me where you found this information.
I am looking at purchasing an Odyssey EX-L-RES (leather with rear entertainment system)and an need accurate Factory Holdback to determine Dealers true cost.
Thanks
So, I went home very frustrated. Two days later, I got calls from two dealers. One of the ones that didn't give me a price, and the one that was willing to negotiate. In the end, I paid $1k over invoice on the new Ody, and got $2k over KBB for the trade-in (or paid $800 under TMV for the Ody, got TMV for the trade-in).
