Would anyone care to share what kind of loan rates you have been offered on the Odyssey? Were you able to do better than Honda financing?
  • pen101pen101 Member Posts: 238
In purchasing your 05, did you also get the 100K mile extended warranty, and if so, how much did you pay?

Just ordered our new EXL 2005 Oddy today. Should be built on October 20 and in the dealership in early November. Owned a 2000 EX and just loved it! Call me crazy, but we didn't even drive an 2005. Ordered from a dealer 60 miles away and over the telephone. Bought four Hondas from same sales person in the past. Paid $1800 "BELOW" MSRP, plus threw in stripes and mud flaps. Didn't even give him a deposit!

I just wanted to confirm that Penske is selling Odyssey's at MSRP. My deposit is in and we are getting our second choice color for the following:

    Touring+Nav/RES in Desert Rock/Ivory

    Good luck all,

I'm thinking about the 05 EXL, but I'm a little put off by the high MSRP. Has anyone been able to do better than 500 off MSRP(Costo pricing)?
  • jipsterjipster Member Posts: 6,299
elaine, isellhondas may be a bit biased in her opinions on the truthfullness of car salesman. You can assume all you want...but if the dealer finds someone who is going to pay a higher price, the majority of the time they will do so.If they do so they will give you some lame excuse...then probably promise to get you one for the same price, but you'll have to wait another month.Even a deposit doesn't guarantee you'll get the van. The dealer can make up any excuse they want...it's not likely they'll let you look at their records to prove they are being honest. Get the dealer to give you the arrival date of the van so you can be there the second it rolls off the delivery truck. If you feel they are giving you the runaround...start shopping at another dealer. Good luck.

    SStratto,

How did it go? I am going to stop by that dealership this weekend or next...am interested in finding out how the process was for you and also did you go with the extended warranty?

    Thanks and good luck,

Also ask for the VIN. If the dealer gives you the VIN, you can find out if they sell it to someone else later.
  • texasmomtexasmom Member Posts: 114
Merci beaucoup cher ! You've shared your joy with us but now please tell us the name of your Honda dealership or at least its location! You know that Cajun country covers a lot of southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana! You needn't/shouldn't give the name of the sales person, though.

Thanks for all the great posts in this forum. I wanted to add my 2 cents, so that others can benefit as well. Shopping for an 05 Ody in the NY/NJ area, I have emailed almost all the main dealerhsips. Without even using my Costco / BJ's auto buying program, I got quotes for $500 below MSRP from Clinton Honda (very pleasant internet sales guy), Nanuet Honda (all email - completely clear and upfront with all the charges / fees) and Autosport Honda, Bridgewater.

The Internet sales guy at VIP Honda was a nice talker, but gave me a speech about how virtuos they are selling at MSRP, while Planet Honda (his neighbor) is marking up +2K. And he went on to amaze me saying that they will start marking up too once the demand picks up and THE SUPPLY GOES DOWN!!! He says that Honda is going to produce their new SUT at the same plant, and once that kicks in by January, they will reduce production of the ODY's. I enjoyed that one!

Phillipsburg Honda had decent doc fees and title / tag charges. But they refused to budge from MSRP, even after I quoted the other dealerships giving me -500.

I like the Nanuet Honda deal the best so far. They also have some great service incentives and offer free loaner cars... none of the other guys are even talking about these things. The doc fees are $45 (Clinton Honda says $120+ and Rte 22 Honda quoted $199)!

Rte 22 Honda's internet manager emailed me with their quote (MSRP + the ridiculous doc fees / title etc) and highlighted their 'low price guarantee'. When I responded that I have 3 quotes for MSRP-500, they said that they are not going to lower their price. Wonder what that low price guarantee was all about!

Open Road Honda repeatedly claims that they will be getting the highest allocation of ODYs in the area - don't see anything much in terms of discounts.

All this dealer posturing has made me sick and tired of the entire process. I have seriously started considering the Sienna XLE (have to figure out the crazy package details though), but I see a lot of competitive prices being offered by dealers for the 05 Siennas.

And since I am not in any big hurry to get a vehicle, I am just going to wait for another couple of months. If Honda really does cut production of the ODY's (ha ha!), then I guess I will go with the Sienna!

Happy at MSRP? You just bought the Carlton's a new room in their house. Just kidding. Did you try Mark Roberts Honda?
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,559
once they make the first 200-300, they should have the first years demand covered, and they can start making Odys again.

maybe it's just wishful thinking that no one will buy one of these hideous contraptions.

I have been offered $800 off of $28510 (MSRP + $510 destination charge) and a free cargo mat and cargo tray for a 2005 Odyssey EX in Midnight Blue. I can get financing at 3.75% at my credit union. Is this price a good deal or should I ask for more? I can get a 2005 sienna LE with safety package almost at invoice. This will be my first purchase of a minivan.
  • kvmkvm Member Posts: 19
Paid a deposit of $500 for a 2005 Honda Odyssey EXL at MSRP (30,810) with free cross bars + splash guards. There is no sales tax where I stay. It should delivered in 4-5 weeks. Exterior color is red rock pearl with ivory interior.
  • amykkbcamykkbc Member Posts: 57
Siennas are already selling at invoice, even in NY.
Ford is offering $7,400 rebate on a $24,000 van.
    Deals and values are EVERYWHERE.
It's the honda dealers still dreaming the repeat of 1999, and never want to face the real world, that they'll have to discount 5-10 % of the MSRP for the 05 ody to compete w/ everyone else.
  • shop04shop04 Member Posts: 5
Looks like Honda Dealers are still dreaming of 1999 - 2000 days. The bay area dealers don't even offer MSRP and are rude to talk.

I am buying a Sienna LE now. My friend already go frustrated with Stevens Creek honda response and bought a Sienna XLE last week, $500 Below Invoice at Hayward Toyota. Nice internet sales guy.

I will also end up there.

    Honda lost two more customers......

We picked up our 05 Odyssey EXL RES from VIP Honda (NJ) this evening. After a couple of days of haggling (I was trying to get better than 500 below MSRP and maximize my trade in)we finally came to an agreement on price and trade in (02 Nissan Pathfinder). Then of course, someone had just put a deposit on the vehicle we were working on. They were going to get another vehicle in 8 days that fit what we were looking for. Turns out they ended up doing a swap today with another dealer for our vehicle. I ended up getting some items that were added beyond our negotiated price and equipment - fender well trim, cross bar and wheel locks.

    05 EXL RES $31910.00
    Tire Fee 7.50
    Destination 515.00
    Reg/Title 114.00
    Doc Fee 176.00
    Total car cost: $32,722.5
tax was on a much lower amount due to trade in.

Overall it was not a bad buying experience and I would recommend them to others - just know what prices are out there. We went to several other dealers and they were still thinking they could get at least $1000 over MSRP. Our more local dealer (we gave them a chance to match) was still over $2,000 off of the net price (including trade in).

Has anyone seen a listing of Invoice prices vs. MSRP for EX Leather, Touring, RES or NAV. I have no idea how much to try to negotiate when all I know is MSRP. I live in Florida any suggestions or dealers willing to negotiate at least a little -- I am ready to buy an Odyssey tomorrow.
  • bluediverbluediver Member Posts: 1
I agree with the attitude of the Honda dealers here in the Bay Area. Stevens Creek wants $3k over MSRP. Palo Alto $5000. Capital at MSRP. --Yeah right! I blanketed the area with internet requests, in and out of the Bay Area, and the best they would do is $500 under MSRP. I exchanged a number of emails with Honda of Oakland and while the exchange was good, they wouldn't budge on the $1500 under MSRP I offered--I think they would have accepted $500 under. Anyway, like you, I am now re-considering the Sienna and hope to make a purchase this weekend. I'll check out Toyota in Hayward. I'll never pay MSRP especially for a hunk of metal on wheels. Too bad...they would probably sell more if they were realistic on their pricing.

I went in to my local Bay Area Honda dealer for service yesterday and saw them selling the 05 Ody for MSRP only, also doc fee is very reasonable at only $45.

Currently they still have one silver Touring w/o Navi and RES instock for sale. If i have a bigger family, the Ody will be on my want list :)

Compare to other dealships in the area, this one is very easy going and low pressure. The salesperson that helped me was very helpful and nice. If anyone interested, email me for more info.

Bluediver, which dealer is offering $500 under MSRP? The ones I have called were offering MSRP but no less.
  • hpanhpan Member Posts: 61
Just that you have paid a deposit now does not mean you have to pay MSRP 4-5 weeks later when yours arrives. You can renegotiate the price down to the market price at that time.
  • pepsicopepsico Member Posts: 5
Located Dealer in central Mississippi that will sell EX-LRES for $1000 under MSRP. That's $2400+ markup over Invoice pricing. For a new vehicle that has been sitting on the lot for almost 2 weeks, I still think this is too much. My local dealer in Louisiana has been begging me to take an EX-LRES for $500 under MSRP. The first dealer to offer $750 over invoice, has got my deal.
  • kvmkvm Member Posts: 19
Thanks hpan ! That's great to know...! I will be more than happy/willing to renegotiate if the prices do go down 4-5 weeks from now.
  • moomoo Member Posts: 18
Doh! I called all over the place trying to get below MSRP 2 weeks ago. Even Costco told me that it wasn't available below that amount. Oh well, if I had gone with the rental instead of buying I could have saved $250. That would have covered my fog lamps:-)
  • hondarookiehondarookie Member Posts: 4
Thanks for the info...looks like you got a nice deal! Congratulations...I'm going to stop by this weekend, hopefully it doesn't take a couple of days of haggling like it did for you, but I'm ready for it.

    Good luck.

  • nd93nd93 Member Posts: 12
Have been told that "no dealer in Florida" will go below MSRP even through internet managers. Most popular explanation obviously is supply and demand. Any advice and/or dealership name for a North/central Floridian ready to buy and willing to drive, but hopefully at less than MSRP. What else can dealers do, such as dealer holdback or destination fee?

New Odyssey is nice, felt tighter than Sienna,
but no AWD on Odyssey, and the pricing here in Norfolk, VA was MSRP + $ 495 for "WINDOW ETCHING"

Incredible, Dealer wouldn't take it off. Prefer
AWD, New AWD $ 100 above Invoice for 2005.

People wake up. Honda is such a joke. Odyssey is nice, but not above MSRP and not without AWD!!!
  • chacha Member Posts: 16
Subaru will run rings around an Odyssey, AWD will let you go on and off road, and is much better on the Pocket Book.

Paying MSRP or over is just ridiculous.

Also check out the new Ford Freestyle-Great reviews, it’s a Volvo underneath!!

first of all, I'd like to thank you for this positive forum that help me a lot to get my new car.

I try many dealers in Houston metro and give up 'cause at most they will give $300 below msrp.

I bought 05 odyssey Ex-L RES (Silver Pearl) w/ very wonderful experience thru internet deal in Lake Jackson, TX . I got about $800 below msrp + extra accessory : Leather Steering Wheel, Cargo Tray and mud guard)

    here is detail :
price : $31,333.53 (include dest fee)
    fog light : $500
    inventory tax : 66.63
    sales tax: 2007.66 (texas)
    License + Title : 98.50
    doc fee : $50
Express Code : $289 (stolen car protection - I missed this one - should not be needed 'cause I negotiated drive out price of other dealer)

    total : 34,367.37

before bought this car, also got $300 more expensive offered from Bay Town, TX but the car is not avail and need to be ordered. (drive out offered : 34,167.36 (w/o $500 fog light)

I suggest to pay attention not just how much below from msrp but importantly, drive out price that you will pay.
  • ayungayung Member Posts: 5
forgot to mention. the extra accesory is free 'cause very small scratch in the bumper that we had to negotiate. loan : 3.99 % for 60 mo w/ 20% down.
  • aab4aab4 Member Posts: 39
Actually the reviews of Ford Freestyle are excellent. Since it is a Volvo in Ford skin, you get one of the safest vehicles with AWD for a lot less money than a Volvo XC 90!

There are more than one Automotive Manufacturer out there, sorry you drink so much of the Honda Kool Aid. Ford also makes trucks like the F 150,
Motor Trend Truck of the year. But expert reviews from industry leading personnel, of course don’t mater to you, because Honda can’t do no wrong, and you will pay their price gouging prices, cause you have to have a Honda.

So in closing have fun with Honda Transmissions, since they break before Ford!!

Judging by the classified ads in the Chicago papers, the only reason for keeping the '05 prices high is to help move the '04s off the lots - on Thursday I saw an ad where a dealer claimed to have over 70 vans in stock. I can see why a dealer would keep the price difference large just to make a big inventory of last years model look more attractive. Just for fun look at completed auctions in e-bay motors where some dealers have tried to auction off their new '05 vans. None of the vans where the opening bid was MSRP even got one bid. A Touring was started at about $8000 and got a lot of bids - but the auction ended with the high bid about a $1000 off the sticker. See http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors item=2491405209. Finally, Honda's Odyssey sales are off for 2004 and for September. See http://www.automotive.com/news/25/7253/index.html

Does anyone know a dealer in the Chicago area that wants to sell '05s?
  • trebtreb Member Posts: 5
I just walked out of the dealer and have secured a Touring/Navi+RES for $1500 under MSRP...No trade in, no extras, no attempts to sell anything else. Simply MSRP/delivery (38810 less 1500) plus tax.

Finalists were Sienna vs. Odyssey and deciding factors were:

    engine/drive performance...
    better NAV system....
much better storage, particularly in 2nd seat.
    color choices/quality of paint....
Dead pedal - very important to me, virtually ignored on the Sienna...
Lower to the ground - easier for little kids and dogs to get in....
Ability to move 2nd row seats forward/back 8 inches - greatly improved leg room in 3rd row, when necessary.

There were some decided downsides to the Odyssey... not quite as luxurious as Sienna inside, no 3rd row vents and a new one to the forum (on the Odyssey you can't open the 2nd row doors completely when the windows are down - did someone already post that?)

dealer experience in my region much much much better with Honda than Toyota.

Hope this helps you all....this forum has been very useful to me!

My black O5 EXL Odyssey will arrive in about 1 month. After buying a volkswagon and having numerous repairs, I determined that for an extra $1 to 2k it might be well worth the peace of mind to purchase a 7 year/100k bumper-to-bumper warranty. Any thoughts? I probably will buy it unless somebody comes up with a very compelling reason not to.
