Honda may raise msrp. $500 for 02 but unless they change invoice we customer will get to negotiate up from invoice instead down from MSRP. when the new plant starts production. Also, the wait time has been cut with the increase of production of the present plant. Dealers may actually have a surplus on the lot by fall with the new plant coming on line.

I agree... in a year or so i'm sure that odyssey supply will be up and we will sell odysseys for well below msrp. ( that why i haven't bought one yet!)
look what happened to the s2000. we sold the 1st 3 for 42,000. the next 2 for 36,000 and the one that we have left we cant get rid off.
most of you dont remember the early nineties, accords sold for 1000 over msrp and preludes sold for 2500 over msrp.
by the time odyssey get cheap, honda will get its own MDX. honda always atleast one really hot item, the past year or so its been the odysseys.

For anyone in the Kentucky or Ohio area. I placed an order about two weeks ago for a SS Odyssey EX. Paid $25,840, this includes destination and $0 doc. fees. The van was shipped on Dec. 21 and should be here anytime now. The dealership was Alton Blakey in Sommerset Kentucky. Great folks to work with. Transaction was handled over the phone. Highly recommend this dealership. I am driving from Atlanta to pick this van up. Dealerships in Atlanta are selling above MSRP and are very arrogant.

The EX went up $400 from 2000 to 2001, I know, I had a 2000 on order, then went to the 2001, $400 more, not sure about the LX or Nav, but don't think either of them went up $500 more from 2K to 2K1.

A yes, just another typical arrogant sales person that gives all car dealers a bad name. Surprise auto manufacturers do not have an option to sell their merchandise direct to the public. Dealerships could then be utilized as strictly service providers to maintain the product, instead of thinking up new ways to confuse and rip off the public. So when that salesman/woman asks you next time, "How much do you think I should make on this car?" tell him/her nothing. You should make all profits off of service.

My two cents for folks in the New England area when shopping for an Odyssey is to stay away from Herb Chambers in Burlington. My potential new car was delivered in 12/00 after waiting since 7/00. The day the car arrived I was told the price and to hurry up and get to the dealership the next day because, "We can sell this car tomorrow." When I got there the car had plastic all over it, was not clean and had not even had the PDI done. To further compound matters I was informed that the price quoted to me the previous day had just increase $500. Salesman however was ready for me to sign contract/pay the balance/ and buy all the extras at inflated prices. I requested to take car out on test drive. Car pulled to the right on test drive. I informed salesman of situation and told him I would pay balance after car was cleaned/past the PDI and right pull was corrected. Two days later I was informed all set for me to come in to pick up the car. To my dismay car was in same condition it was in when I first looked at it. I took the car out with him and the pull to right was still there, and he agreed. When I asked him what they did to fix the car, he said he did not know, but it passed the PDI the day before. I then gave him the Honda service bulletin on how to potentially correct the problem. When I refused to pay the balance on the vehicle until it was fixed is when the real fun started. Sales manager, who never called or talked to me during my 6-month wait, stepped into the picture. He was crass and rude to my wife and me. We stuck to our guns and told him we would pay when the car met our and Honda's standards.

Luckily the next day I got a call from Herb Chambers of Boston informing me that my car was in (It pays to be on more than one waiting list.) It was a pleasure dealing with them. The car was clean and went through a PDI before my test drive. Car did not pull to the right. During the one-hour test drive the salesman threw in some extras at no added cost to me because of the wait. Car actually cost what I was quoted over the phone. There was no mention of purchasing anything else and I did not have to go through the game of meeting with the sales manager.

My suggestion for folks in the Boston area is to call Ed Homann at Herb Chambers Honda of Boston. He is top notch.

I am looking at an Odyssey EX in Indpls, IN area. Can anyone reference a price paid in a local Honda dealer. As a current Ford owner, I haven't spent enough time being treated like dirt to become accustomed to Honda dealers yet. Most/ all dealers here have the Odyssey in stock but still want MSRP. Can anyone recommend a dealer that is discounting? I am specifically looking for a silver or green EX with no nav. I am willing to drive up to 2 hours for a good deal.

Some folks have purchased the Hidden Hitch round tube hitch and said it looked better than the OEM hitch. I recall that they said installation was easy. I found a written note to myself that BAGECO.COM was selling them for $108.43. Also check DRAWTITE.COM. I would recommend buying the tranny cooler from Trevor online. Hope this helps.

to the Honda buyers across the country that are treated like crap. Unforunately in this business some people cannot help but to get an attitutde when selling such a nice product. I have been in the "Sales" profession for 19 years, 3 of which is in the Automotive field. Hands down the Honda product is the finest, comparatively speaking. But NOTHING rates treating ANY customer like crap. Sometimes it would be easy to do just that, but then I reming myself AND my managers that they are all people like us...just trying to buy a car. After all, this isnt brain surgery.

I started looking at minivans again about 4 months ago. Previously owned a 93 Quest. Decent van, then went to an Altima- not impressed with Nissan's lack of quality these days. Saw the Ody first, then went to look at Sienna, T&C, Villager and another Quest. After seeing Ody- no comparison in initial quality. All others looked somewhat "cheap." Toy too small at 6'4"+ and T&C didn't seem too roomy either. Ody- plenty of room. Magic seat is a breeze- always had to take the seat out of Quest, store, then not be able to use it when arriving at destination.

On Jan 3rd, I emailed all dealers in 100 miles about purchase/wait time/prices. Got on 3 wait lists, 2 without deposit. All of which were very nice. All at MSRP. One other that had one in stock wanted $3000 over- not gonna happen. On Jan 6th, received call from one- had a van in and it was mine if I wanted it! So I jumped. I was not expecting for 6-8 weeks! Got a MB EX, like the features, would have liked the LX price better. But after comparing $$'s with other models, the only one I looked at that I could have gotten cheaper was really the Quest/Villager and they have decreased in quality and will not be produced much longer. Today I recieved an email from another dealer with an LX... think I'll keep the EX, love the extras. Will cry over price dif. later.

We have only put 50 miles on it so far, and thanks to all who have posted, I have been looking for all of the quirks of the Ody. So far, I am happy. Doesn't seem to pull, road noise does not seem bad, doors seem to work fine, and so on. If you know of other things to "look out" for, please inform... I let the Nissan service guys run me over in my Altima, I will be big squeaky wheel if my Honda makes a rattle.

Sorry so long, first post, excited about my new Ody...

    Peace!

Just because you dealt with a below average dealer doesnt mean we are all like that, obviously you know that since you liked the other dealer. My costumers never hand over a check until the car is detailed and me and the customer go over the entire car. i take one hour to deliver a car, especialy an odyssey with all its features. I hope you enjoy your odyssey for many years to come.
  • qman13qman13 Member Posts: 6
Honda already has a MDX minus leather, 4 wheel drive opt., a little different sheet metal, and a decent stereo. It is called the Odyssey. And yes, you can get to the third row seat while people are sitting in the second row. On a lighter note I'm glad you he figured out how to spell Odyssey, Honda 101.

Aloha from Magi! We got our AS Odd DX last week from our only dealer after some haggling for MSRP. Everything is great with that van. Thank you all for the information about prices from all over the country.

We purchased our '00 LX in September from Honda East exchanging e-mails with Lou Ann Robb at Honda East in Southeast Cincinnati. Her e-mail is lou.ann@theautomile.com (513-528-8073)

After some e-mail offers back and forth, we agreed on $23k even for our Granite Green LX. She was pleasant to work with and was quite up-front with us via e-mail.

I'm not sure if they have any '01 EXs in stock, but an e-mail to her can't hurt!

Tell her Steve and Holly say hi!

    Good luck...

We just purchased our Odyssey EX two weeks ago. None of the dealers within I-465 would come down from MSRP. However, I called dealers in Muncie, Kokomo, Andersen, and Bloomington and 3 of the 4 offered $500 under MSRP, with differing delivery dates (immediately to 1 1/2 months). We went with Susie Morris Honda in Muncie, sales rep was Jama. They had the van in the color we wanted and delivered it to us the next day. We did the paperwork at the kitchen table and Jama was very pleasant throughout the process. One caveat: our Odyssey does pull to the right (common problem) so we will have to get that corrected. Have your van inspected for it before you take delivery.

Good luck and be ASSURED that you can get at least $500 off MSRP in central Indiana.

Many thanks to all of you who have posted before me. I've learned much from you. Following one suggestion, I e-mailed 17 Honda dealers in Southeast Michigan and Ohio. I told them I was ready to buy, no trade in, cash deal. I asked for their best price. Only 8 responded and one of them said he wasn't interested. (I don't know why they post e-mail addresses on their web sites if they don't want to deal over the internet!)

Best deal for me was from Troy Honda. $500 off MRSP, $30 Doc fee, $19 title and transfer fee, plus local sales tax. Classic soft trim leather $1,200.

Second best deal from Ganley Honda. $640 off MRSP, but $1,600 for leather and $70.50 for doc fees, and temp Ohio license.

Troy Honda added splash guards and cargo tray to bridge the discount gap between their discount and Ganley's discount.

7 year warranty was $1,085 at Troy Honda, so I'm getting it from Hat field Honda in Ohio for $835 plus tax.

Some good people to deal with are Tom Theisen of Troy Honda. Very low key, a pleasure to deal with. No pressure at all. 248-649-0202 or troyhonda@aol.com. At Hatfield call Don Towle at 419-893-5581 or dontowle@netzero.net for the warranty.

If you don't want leather, go to Dave Preis at Ganley Honda since he offered the best MRSP discount. His e-mail address is preis2622@aol.com

Incidentally, demand may be down. When I first talked to Troy Honda, at the beginning of December, they had 2 Ody '01 EX SS coming in at the end of the month. Both were available for sale. I got one of them! Love it!

Bought an Ody LX yesterday at from Honda Cars of Hickory, North Carolina for MSRP. While the dealership wouldn't negotiate MSRP, I requested no dealer add-ons and was able to easily negotiate almost all other costs. I am very satisfied with the deal, and the sales rep wasn't offended by my many questions and reams of research.

The Hickory dealership was great. While I couldn't get too far at our local dealership (they even laughed when I said I wouldn't buy a car without driving it first), I called the Hickory dealership on Friday (they're about 45 miles away), asking to test drive an Ody. They didn't have any on the lot, but worked hard to make arrangements to bring in an Ody owned by one of the employees for me to drive on Monday. Instead, they called me early Monday morning offering a silver LX that they had tracked down for me. It was for sale that day, it drove great, and we bought it.

While I read that some of you are able to get the Ody under MSRP, I couldn't find anyone within a reasonable distance from here willing to do so, and then they say there's a 2 month waiting list to boot. The Hickory dealership is good and easy to work with, and they are on the ball. We worked with David Russell. The phone number there is 1-800-763-2676.

We started looking for a new car when my wife totaled the Volvo in a rainstorm. Everyone walked away OK and I actually drove the car home. We decided that we really needed a bigger car so we looked at mini vans and really liked the Honda Odyssey. Only problem is that here in Maryland, it is a 4 month wait to get one. Well, riding a bike back and forth to work in the middle of a colder than usual Maryland winter while my wife has my car leads to desparate measures. I called around the immediate states to no avail. Then I got on the internet and looked up the biggest Honda dealers and started calling them. Talked to a dealer in Cleveland who said he had an LX in stock. I asked for a price with a roof rack, alloy wheels, and towing package and he said he would get back to me. Several hours later I called him back and he still did not have a price but said he was working on it. After a while I figured he didn't want to sell me a car probably because I was asking him to make mods. to a car and working this deal long distance, and he could probably sell it to a local customer I/o any risk. So I gave up on him and started calling other dealers. I ended up calling DPatrick Honda in Evansville, Ind. (since I saw another post with success w/ this dealer) and they happen to have 2 in stock, an LX and an EX. I told him what I wanted and he gave me a price pretty much on the spot. I put a deposit on it so they would hold it, snet them a money order for the rest later, and picked it up the next weekend. Got picked up at the airport, transaction went great, no surprises, and drove the car 800 miles home that day. Even with the airfare, and costs to drive it home, I figured I still saved over $500 over what I would have paid here, plus I have a car again. My salesman told me that after I called, they sold the EX the same day and could have sold the LX too. The whole experience was very professional. Now if Honda could just do something about the audio....

I just wanted to correct you on couple of issues you brought up about the Nissan Quest. Nissan Quest GXE(with comfort option) which is by the way lot more loaded than the LX cost approximately $5000 less than LX. It has options that Honda would charge you arm and a leg (such as TV/VCR, running board, fog lights) So you really can't compare apples to apples. 5k is too much of a difference that would put it in separate class. Also its true that its being discontinued however it will be back in 2004 (actually April of 2003 for consumers)with an interior and exterior that is designed by Renault (Experts in space design) They know how to take advantage of every nook and cranny. Thank god they are not touching the engines or transmission. Again for the money it has proven itself very capable. The 2000 or 2001's have all the bugs worked out based on user comments at Edmunds.

    Hi All,
Finally gonna go ahead with it. Been watching this site since last spring, went into a local dealer and sat down with a salesman, and waited for the same old story. But remarkably, he told me MSRP + tax, $130 doc/prep, $133 for roof crossbars, total $29,320 approx, he promised no major surprises, $$$wise. Gonna go with the 2001 Grand Cara but ever look at there option packages, your head would spin and pocketbook would empty quick, have done alot of research, the Ody is the one for us. Our salesman said we could have it in 2 week SS EX, seems to be the most popular color these days, $500 deposit all we need to order, would really like an Emerald Green may wait around for it, considering how long we've waited thus far. We are in the New York City area, anybody out there have any better luck. Haven't given the deposit yet, been burned by that one once before, Live and Learn. Just lookin for some 12th hour advice or support, hate the thought of the big monthly car payment. Things haven't loosened up any in the Ody market. Any prospect of it happening soon? Any insider secrets out there? About to take the plunge in Brooklyn, NY.

I am in shock, I just came the dealer in Woodstock, Ga. and he said to me with a straight face, $3,000 OVER sticker. I laughed and said thanks for his time cause I hope it's free. I can't really blame it on Honda, because the profit is going into the dealers pocket. But you can bet your nav system that I ain't gonna payit. Does anybody really use the nav system anyway. I want leather, moonroof and a ent. system. Looks like the Mazda MPV will get money.

It was nice to finally get mine!! the waiting lists here are really crazy, most dealers want to hold checks ,I would not pay over MSRP and anyone that pays over MSRP must be making a lot of income from there jobs to throw away 500 to 3000 dollars,if you keep looking you will find one without waiting to long ,you just got to keep calling so they know you are serious, I did in San Diego with no waiting, thanks to everyone for all the info, computergeek96@hotmail.com
  • sam7068sam7068 Member Posts: 28
While you are checking, look at Nissan Quest, thats what I bought for $2500 below sticker price, I paid 21K out the door for GXE with comfort option (which included, built-in child seat, security system, TV/VCR/game option, Rear radio controls, rear Heather/AC). The Van is really church quiet and handles very good. For leather seat you can upgrade to SE or GLE the luxury model. By the way the 72month/100K cost me $625. I went through same rude awakening with California Honda dealers!!!

After going to local dealerships in CT and hearing about a 4-5 month wait, and watching friends rent cars until their Odyssey came in, I decided to be proactive in finding an EX model. I was lucky in that an Edmunds site contained infomation on someone who found one quick.

I corresponded by E-Mail and found out about Majestic Honda in Warwick Rhode Island. I placed an order for an Odyssey on December 12th with three color options. My third choice was available for January delivery and I was guaranteed February delivery on my top two choices.

Well things got better from here, I got a call December 26th that my 2nd choice was on the lot and if I wanted to wait a week I could get my top choice. True to their word it was in after New Year's and I picked it up on January 6th. The color choices I had to choose from in a three week period were Granite Green, Mesa Beige and Starlight Silver (this is the one I went with).

I paid MSRP ($26,440+$400 destination). In hindsight maybe some negotiation was warranted but after all I heard about people paying premiums I was just happy with the deal I got and especially the timing. If anyone needs one fast call Mike Girard at Majestic: 401-822-2000.

Just got a quote from my local Honda deal:

    Honda Care for the Odyssey:

    7 yrs/70,000 miles $805
    6 yrs/100,000 miles $895

willing to go down $50 each if my friend and I buy at same time.

    Any COMMENT!!!

Consumer Reports rated 2000 Ody as average and 1999 Ody as below average. Does that mean that 1999 Ody will be on Used Car Avoid List in the April Auto issue?
  • javahoundjavahound Member Posts: 17
There is NO need to correct me...

#1- I have worked for Nissan and have owned many, including a Quest.
    #2- I was looking at a GLE with sunroof, leather, running boards + + +. MSRP- $31,054 Invoice- $27,524 (ODY MSRP- $26,400)
#3- How is it "lot more loaded." Except for fog lights, running boards, TV, leather, sunroof (all of which can be done easily with good aftermarket products IF it were a concern)- still no $5,000 difference! What DOES the Quest have that the Ody does not? Safety- NO, Reliability- NO, Size- NO, better mileage- NO, Horsepower- NO ...
#4- You are right- they are in seperate classes
#5- And, my friends at Nissan said that Renault was only a partner for their $$, now they are designing? Got 2 words for you- "LE CAR" (French for LE CRAP).
#6- What does Edmunds say? "Quests perform adequately, though more passing power would be appreciated." "the Quest's crash test scores are subpar." "If...(you) like a smaller-sized van, the Mazda MPV is a "safer" bet."
How about the ODY? "Excellent crash-test scores, tons of interior space, fold-flat third-row seat, second-row seats can be a bench or captain's chairs." "currently recognized as the minivan benchmark" "the Honda Odyssey might just be the ultimate family vehicle."
#7- What does Consumer Reports say? to be brief: Ody #1, Quest/Villager- last.

I'd rather push a Honda than own a Nissan...? I'd end up pushing the Nissan though.

Correction noted, arm and leg intact, tongue still in cheek.

When I went looking for my Ody, I went to honda.com and looked up dealers within about 2 hours of here and emailed each that had a listed email address. I got responses from most. I got on 3 wait lists, one with deposit, 2 with no money. I found one in the Baltimore area, but they did not get back to me promptly about the price, originally they wanted $3000 over MSRP- HA! After 3 days, we had a MB EX. Within 5 days, we could have had a SS LX. Honda has a great reputation for quality, service and customer service in this area and I am pleased with the experience. I did have one problem with the finance mngr pushing me for an ext. warr. It's ok to mention, BUT NO MEANS NO, not- keep pressuring...
Have about 150 miles on it now... seems fine so far, taking a day trip on Monday.

Just walked in from the dealer. We bought a 2001 EX in Fayetteville North Carolina. I paid the 26,400 plus the 440 destination handling fee, + a 95 doc fee + 250 for the undercoating, scotch guard , paint sealer stuff (talked him down from $495 and got a full tank of gas) Total came out to exactly $27,185 + TTL. The dealer had two on the lot and I had my choice of the green or white. Excellent service and not a pushy or unreasonable deal. Hope this helps and I appreciate everyone elses inputs. Best of luck and write a note if I there is anything else I can help you with.

We are not supposed to promote any dealership in here, What I would suggest is to call around or if you email me I can give you the very specific details. With 5000 dollars you can buy a condo in San Diego and rent it with a positive cash flow.hehehehe

the standard Hondacare warranty is 7 years, 100,000 miles, no deductible. Any variations make me suspicious that the dealer is trying to sell a third party warranty so it's cheaper.

My GG EX arrives shortly (production dates comfirmed to dealer). The dealer states that the 7/100,000/no-deductible Hondacare warranty costs them, now, $825. They sold it to me for $925 because I had printouts of this forum's messages "proving" I could get it for about that price. Thank you, all!!

They give the salesman $25 and the company keeps $75. That's about as low as you'll get.

So, watch out for variations in the coverage--the word(s) Honda Care is registered to Honda and can't legally be used by others.
  • acsmithacsmith Member Posts: 63
re Supply of Ody: Demand well exceeds supply which is why the dealers presently can sell all they can get, for MSRP. Honda is building a new factory (Tenn. I think) but it won't be producing until early 2002. They can make about 9500 ODYs per month at the only factory (Canada). The new Tenn factory will triple production, they say. That will drive prices down of course, but their forecast of demand justifies the new factory.

As people become disenchanted with the Dodge Grand Caravan (tranny problems galore, plus the "new redesigned 2001's" don't have a Dodge version of the Honda Magic Seat), Honda fully expects to capture a high percentage of the replacement market. (I'm one of them--my 96 GC has a new tranny ($2400), new a/c evaporator ($1300), two new a/c condensers ($1000), and no warranty coverage on any of that. Ugh. My new GG EX arrives in about a week!)

So Honda believes that they'll be able to sell everything they can produce.

Java, first of all...take it easy,,this board is setup to Educate buyers who are making decisions on Vans and prices. Again, My price on LX was on Average $1000 above MSRP in California (AutoWest Honda, Fremont and Anderson Honda, Palo Alto) I also checked with Elko Honda in Reno NV and 2 dealers in LA. Same story and run around (read my previous postings). Same frustration that everyone here goes through. So I changed my mind and went with Nissan 2001 GXE. I paid 21K even out the door with comfort option and running boad, TV/VCR, dual AC/heater, dual radio controls back and front). That was $4,875 less than honda LXnot to mention the tax on that amount.
As for Saftey, the figures just released last week gives the quest 5 stars for crash test. I encourage everyone to go to the site and check it out. I agree that gas miles is less and it has less horsepower, but its also smaller van so much lighter. By the way, the engine is very adequate for the size. I believe it is much more reliable than Odyssey. I checked with my Neighbor who has a '99 with 50K and he swears that he has not spend a dime on repairs. Its much quieter than odyessey and has better quality of seats, stereo and matrials inside. Engine and transmisstion have already proven themselves based on the history. Honda's are new and I believe we are seeing problems pop up based on the postings at Edmunds. Also check Quest site and you will see much less problems. Again, I am not saying this van is for everyone, Honda would be #1 in my book if it would go at invoice and dealers would treat buyers with respect, but for MSRP,or above MSRP..buyers should be aware that there are other choices. With Nissan's you can negotiate from invoice down, I saved $2500 below invoice. Back in October, Honda wouldn't even show me the car till I put my deposit down....
  • sam7068sam7068 Member Posts: 28
By the way,,,I don't see any purpose for 3rd row magic seat, first of all, it was invented by Mitsu on their now defunct '92 Expo, So Honda just copied that design..Second you once you fold it down you really can't haul any furniture or even christmas tree. You might as well pay $19.95 and rent a truck from Home Depot, its cheaper if god forbids and you tear the cheap seats or spill something or god knows what. As for Quest, you can arrange the seats 26 different ways. Mine is set to Limo style so everyone can watch the TV. Also Renault again Is and will be designing the inside only. Your friend needs to do his homework again...check Edmund's Nissan site. Le Car's problem is with Engine and electrical, Japanese have that covered, However Japanese don't know how to take make the seat comfy or how to use the space inside the car.

Let's educate and learn together... can't we all just get along? :) BTW- was in Southern Cal last year, loved it and really loved the weather... but it is different from NorthEast. Sorry the Honda dealers out there don't seem to be too nice. I did own a Quest, it was not problem free, manifold bolts are problematic, rear heat and a/c constant pain with switches and fuses, replaced many wiring and light harnesses; moving the seats and removing the seats was a pain- they are heavy. Magic seat is a dream, I have used it half a dozen times already- very convenient, don't care who invented it. Who wants to haul lumber in them? I did get to haul a 6 ft Roland MIDI keyboard in it. But for the big stuff, buy a truck. As for safety, specifically crash, see post #353 and others on Nissan Quest V, to see response from Host about the accuracy of that test. And my "friend" was actually a salesman at Nissan, would not call him a friend really. I have found the Nissan dealers in this area less and less trustworthy. Don't get me started on my Altima that I have to turn in on lease soon. I am happy with my Ody, glad you like the Quest. Happy Motoring

sam7068, try going on a trip to visit family with lots of luggage and at your destination turn your Quest into a people mover again. You can't because your 3rd row seats are in your garage where you left them when you took them out to fit in the luggage before the trip. Don't ever have to worry about should I leave the 3rd row seats in or take them out with the Odyssey.

It is a hassle to have to wait for an Ody and the lack of options to upgrade the relatively spartan interior and general lack of choices (limited exterior colors etc.) are minuses. But the magic seat is a major plus.

Sam, my previous van was '98 quest with 68K mile on odometer and it was trouble free, my wife and I are retired and drove all over U.S and Canada and we were never let down, even in middle of snow storm. We gave it to our daughter 2 months ago. Now we are looking at Odyssey since its rated better than other vans and we do like the 3rd row magic seat. I got to admit that I am a bit nervous about the Odyssey's long term reliability and it sure is pricy but overall I hope it does as good as the Quest. Odyssey's are also rated better at side impact crash than the new Quest.

I have been getting ALOT of calls lately from Va buyers regarding availability in that state. I dont know why allocations seem to be low there. The dealers are quoting 4-5 month deliveries.

Any Va buyers getting the same info?

My wife and I just picked up our SS 2001 Odyssey EX. We live in Atlanta and drove to Kentucky on Saturday to pick it up. We drove 350 miles back and it drove great, almost as smooth as my 2000 Acura TL.

The dealers in Atlanta wanted $1000 above MSRP, had about a three month waiting list and were very arrogant. We faxed our offer to over 90 dealers in the SE. Alton Blakey in Sommerset, Kentucky accepted my offer of $1000 below MSRP, there were no dealer add ons and since I was out of state they did not charge any doc fees.

The folks at Alton Blakey were great customer service folks. No pressure, very knowledgable and had a customer first attitude. It was a five hour drive from Atlanta but it was a beautiful drive through the Tennessee and Kentucky mountains. We were in and out of the dealership in just over and hour. Most of this time, was the salesman going over all the features of the van.

    I used E-Loan (www.eloan.com) financing at 6.56% interest for 60 months.

The sales manager said that he would give this same deal to anyone who wanted to buy an Odyssey.
There phone number is 1-800-264-3275, ask for Barry Flatt and tell them that Dennis and Laurie from Atlanta refered you.

This is a great vehicle but don't be ripped off by dealers charging above MSRP, MSRP, or adding on all the dealer add on charges.

The new plant will be in Albama instead of Tenn. It will be open in the second half of this year
instead of the next year. Third, I remember it will double the producion instead of triple. Thanks.

Congrats on your new EX. Did the dealer have it in stock. If not how long did you have to wait from time of order to delivery? I live in NJ and the best I get is a 4-5 mos. waiting list. I just may be giving the sales mgr. in Kentucky a call as it may be worth it to travel out there as we are expecting a 2nd child in the next couple of mos.. Also did you have a good experience with eloans.com? Any feedback is appreciated.

We picked up our New 2001 Silver Odyssey EX from Ganley Pontiac/Honda in North Olmsted, Ohio (Cleveland)on January 6th 2001. Dave Preis was the straight shooting sales representative. preis2622@aol.com phone:1-800-342-8158 or 1-440-777-9400.

I can not tell you how much I appreciate Dave's honest dealings. I live in NW New Mexico. Quite a drive from Cleveland. 6 months back I worked out a deal with Dave. My local dealer in NW New Mexico matched the Cleveland deal ($ 700 off MSRP), but strung me along selling my car to others who would pay full MSRP. I was really disappointed in the treatment I received from the NM dealer. After 3 months of being treated like I didn't matter as a customer from my local dealer, I called Dave up. He was willing to keep the same original deal. We did all the paperwork via Federal Express and Dave delivered as promised. I put $ 500 down on November 2nd, and the vehicle was in on December 16th, one day ahead of Dave's estimate. Total purchase price (excluding NM taxes), driven off the lot was MSRP ($ 26,400 + $ 440 Dest Fee + $ 50 doc fee + $ 20.50 temp tag & filings minus $ 700)or $ 26,210.50

Dave said demand was up, and he could no longer do $ 700. He did say $ 600 off MSRP for anyone I referred in and that he could discount extras. I can not say enough good things about a man who can sell me a car 1500 miles away from home.

Things worked out for me on my long 3 week vacation. Good luck to the rest of you guys. By the way, I have put 1000 miles on the Odyssey and it runs great. No problems.

    Posting1,

You've described what sounds to be a great experience. What shipper did you use to get the Odyssey back to New Mexico and what was the fee?

    To Okey3

The Kentucky dealership did not have our EX on the lot but we only had to wait three weeks. We made the deal on December 27, it arrived on January 10 and picked up on January 13. Alton Blakley took a $500 credit card deposit over the phone.

E-Loan was a breeze. Filled out the application online and was approved in about 20 minutes. They send you all the paperwork along with a bank draft to be filled out at the dealership. Great rates now at 6.56% for 60 months. Dealership had no problem in accepting the E-Loan draft. Takes them about 15 minutes to fill out information and get a confirmation number.

There was not an attitude and no B.S. with Alton Blakley, the salesman Barry Flatt was extremely nice and very knowlegeable. I would highly recommend them. They said they would sell at $1000 below MSRP to anyone but they only get a few in a month. They said they have an LX coming in next week that is not sold yet.

Let me know if I can provide you with any additonal information.

    Our Oddy has finally arrived!!!

Ordered from Dennis Jenkins at Jay Honda in Bedford, Ohio (JayHondaDJ@aol.com) on November 30, 2000. Put $500 deposit on my credit card.

Vehicle arrived at Jay Honda on December 15, 2000 (as Dennis had predicted). I wired the balance of the funds on December 18, 2000.

Dependable (Not) Auto Shippers picked the vehicle up on December 20, with an anticipated delivery date to California on January 4, 2001. Called Dependable Auto Shippers every few days for progress, they told me vehicle was in route, in Georgia, then Texas, then would be arriving on time in California. On January 4, 2001, no Oddy in my driveway. Called DAS and then they told me there must have been some mistake, because the van was not in route, but was in fact still in New Jersey at their depot!!

I called Dennis at Jay Honda and he went to bat for me. He got DAS to immediately ship the vehicle on Monday of last week, and it arrived on Friday of last week at 5:00 p.m. our time. She was a little dirty on the outside, but otherwise in perfect condtiion.

I got a chance to drive it around over the weekend. What a great van. Well worth the wait.

Dealing with Dennis was very pleasant. No b.s. No unkept promises. Got the van for under MSRP and got the Hondacare warranty for around half of what local dealers are charging for it. The savings off of msrp and the warranty paid for the shipping ($895) with a little left over. Other than DAS letting my car sit on their lot for 14 days, the entire transaction was trouble free and low stress. When I did have a problem with DAS, Dennis jumped in and took care of it-good after sales service even though its unlikely I'd be a repeat customer due to the distance from Ohio. Dennis even got DAS to pay for a rental car for me!!

I got the car I wanted, in the color I wanted, without any ridiculous "paint treatment", "fabric protection", "pin stripping", or other useless overpriced options. (My local so. cal. dealer in my city told me I should consider myself "lucky" that they would even sell me the NAVI at $31,750 they had on the lot because they had a waiting list of 60 people who would certainly buy it within the next three hours if I didn't jump on the "opportunity" to purchase!).

Over all, very pleased with the deal and the van. The internet is a great resource. If your local dealer can't/won't sell the van for a reasonable price, you can always go elsewhere and have it shipped to you. I have been contacted by one other person who also purchased an Oddy from Dennis. She reported he is straight shooter and delivered as promised.

Thanks to all for your posts and insights, which were very valuable and helped make me an informed consumer. I probably won't be lurking here any more.... Good luck to all.

I just made a trip down to Alabama and back (home in PA) and saw one or two Odysseys on every lot I noticed. I assume this means that demand is slowing and/or inventory has improved. Or perhaps the current economy has scared people a bit. Anyone else notice the same thing?
