Deal only with the Internet Sales Mgr., very polite, courteous..not your typical sales person.
I have some road noise, but I can't say its specifically coming from the from "air dam". Just how load is the "air dam" noise, ie can you still hear the radio?
To those of you who have been waiting to buy, this seems to be a good time. I just took delivery of my van today. And there were quite a few still on the lot. I think it's because people aren't out car shopping during Xmas season. Anyway, think of a price, name your deal, and keep your fingers crossed.
I love my new van. Two things I am having trouble with. There seems to be a fair amount of wind noise in the vehicle. Also, the driver seat seems stiff and uncomfortable. I am hoping that this is only temporary. Wish me luck.
Ok now to the buying experience part. While the salesrep was very cool the finance guy was a real worm. He first walks out and says he can give us a 5.2% rate for 60 months. I have an excellent credit rating. I laughed at him and said that I can get 4.3% from Costco right now. He then said something about "oh well let me run the numbers through the system". Well that was funny, he had said that before he offered the 5.2%. This time he comes back and offers us 4.1%. Jerk.
Ok next up he tries to sell us the warranty of course. High pressure tactics too. First he tries to sell it for $1950. LOL! After I refuse he suddenly offers it at "cost" $1350. I refused again. I'd rather purchase it from somewhere else.
Now for the questions.
1) if you had a trade in did they FORCE you to tell them what you owe before offering you trade in value? I fought over this and am ready to call Honda Corp. and complain. That is such bull, but I wasnt prepared to walk away and I knew I was going to force atleast blue book on them (the trade in was probably worth more, it was in excellent condition with only 12.5K miles on it).
2) Since my 16 mo daughter was having a meltdown I wasn't able to really go over the documentation I was signing (yeah I know..I am an idiot). Anyhow the finance sheet was very weird but it netted out to the correct amount. My question is for those of you who financed through Honda:
Did they put the MSRP price + del fee + accessories in the listed Purchase price and then add your actual discount to your trade in & down payment values? (i.e. Instead of putting 32,6K they put like 34.6K. They then added $2k to my down payment & trade in. It netted ok but looks VERY fishy. The guy didn't explain it to us either. The salesrep has since kind of explained it but I am curious if there is a valid reason they do this.
Thanks,
We've wanted an Odyssey EX-L, but thought the difference with trading in a EX cloth Pilot would be too much money. Happy with Pilot anyway, though we really like the room of the Odyssey.
Bottom line, after little fanfare, $5,000 to tradeup to Ody EX-L. Took $2,000 off Odyssey ($28,800) and gave $23,800 for Pilot with nearly 20k miles and caked on mud and kid's crap all over it. That seems to be private party value for the Pilot. Oh yeah, they have $200 in doc prep fees. Big deal.
I believe the reason I got the deal is that I had a desirable trade that they could sell quickly (with a thorough cleaning) and I didn't want the Odyssey THAT badly. Not to mention it is mid-December. Both parties literally talked themselves into this deal.
We contemplated buying an Ody in September, but was afraid of paying the "early adopter" price. By waiting and not caring, I think we did better.
Ironically, they had a prospective buyer for the Pilot (someone wanted cloth) while I was still there.
I'm happy with the deal (particularly with the fact that I didn't take 2 weeks to do it).
Think I did well?
good deal ?
Did lot's of shopping around via internet and working dealers against one another. Seems in the Houston area there is suddenly fairly good availability as all '05 had been pre-sold up until week before Thanksgiving. I started out with best deal as $1000 below MSRP and worked down from there.
Invoice w/destination $30,963.76
Markup over invoice $ 500
Selling price $31,463.76
Plus $125 title/temp/doc and sales tax.
Paid list on splash guards ($126) and leather wheel cover ($119) as I don't want to hose up the install on these two items. Crossbars and other less invasive add-ons will come from A and H.
Unfortunately the build date for our Sage Brush Pearl over Olive isn't till mid-late Jan so we're looking at a Feb delivery.
Deal was completely straightforward, didn't even discuss the 7/100 $0 ded HondaCare as I'll buy that from Inet sales guy at Dick Brooks in Greer, SC for under $1,100. As I understand it, the warranty prices may change over time, but there is no price difference between buying one on an '05 with 0 miles vs. one with up to 24k.
I'd highly recommend Classic (as others here have previously).
Inet sales mgr at Mike Pruitt in Akron is offering the same deal.
Thanks to all who have provided info here since Sept, makes the buying process SO much easier with less risk of buyers remorse..
I just drove by Classic and they have 11 Odys on the lot that I could see from the road. Why did you have to wait? To get the right color combo?
Thanks.
They have a silver over grey EXL-RES w/NAV being built later this month that we could have had in early Jan.....but the next 'run' of Sage Brush over Olive wasn't till mid-late Jan.
From what I was told (no idea if its correct, but sounds plausible) instead of making back to back vans of different colors, they make different colors in 'runs' where they'll make a batch of vans with the same exterior color all at once (to avoid setup time/cost to change from one color to the next). The rest of the parts can be different between vehicles of the same ext color because they can simply queue up a grey interior in front of an ivory one and a regular radio behind a NAV system etc so the right parts go in the next van coming down the line.
With the number of different ext colors available on the '05, the different color runs are spaced out a bit and if you miss one run (or in our case the vans from that run are already sold) you end up waiting for the next bus to come along.
This could all be BS and it could be driven by the NAV system supplier capacity constraints or something else....but if I were Honda, I'd start putting the NAVs they have in more EXLRES and fewer Tourings (if that is even possible). All the vans w/NAV I've seen on lots around here are Touring mdls that seem to be slow movers.
Anyone else know what is really driving the delivery date delay (besides demand>supply) on the RES/NAV models?
Pruitt was pretty aggressive (called me and offered the $500 over deal earlier this week) after we'd been back and forth a few times, ending up $1500 over invoice. Without the Pruitt $500 over deal, I doubt I'd have done better than the $1k over inv I saw posted here from Classic a month or so ago.
Per a post here, Park Honda in Akron sent out an email a week or so ago that stated they would sell LXs and EXs at $500 over invoice. I never got a straight answer from them as to whether this offer applies to other than cloth EXs.
Regardless, it appears there's competition aplenty in Greater Akron.
thx,
I recommend Stockton Honda to all of you. Great guys. Very professional. (They even offered to drive my car back home just incase i couldnt find a friend to take me to stockton).
For bay area Honda buyers i suggest the below method. It worked best for me:
1) Shop around with local dealers first (Autowest -Fremont, San Leandro Honda, Southbay Honda are more reasonable. Stevens Creek, Larry Hopkins, Andersons are the more greedy ones -- watch out for them).
2) Use edmunds to shop around peripheral areas. Concord, Vacaville, North SFO, Stockton, Selma Honda etc. These places are within 100-150 miles (roughly 2-3 hrs) & can save u upto $500 bucks.
3) Push the local dealers as well as remote ones to match each other's prices. I started with the cheapest price of around 30K. Then i got one of the dealers to agree on 29.8K. Two weeks later i was able to bring it down to 29.5K. After some more haggling i got 29K.
4) Cash in on the color. Like dealers cash in on the color of your preference, u too can cash in on the color thats not your first choice.
Tell the dealer u will deal only if u get a big discount since its not your first choice color.
(I got 500 off because of this)
5) Cash in on christmas time. Its the dullest week for car dealers. People are busy travelling. Dealers get their fresh supply in Jan they need to get rid of their inventory now.
Happy car shopping.
BTW, we love every bit of our new Odyssey!
cccompson the dealer is Park Honda in Akron.
There internet site lets you view inventory and make an offer. I really got lucky with this deal. Good luck with getting the same or better.

I would offer the dealer 33.5 OTD and try to settle in at 34. Sorry for the late reply.

Lots of high pressure sales once into the finance office. Service Agreement, Tire/gap/life/lojack crud. They tried the old look it only raises your payment by $67/month! Gack, I nearly fell out of my chair. Guess you just have to blow it off and stick to your guns. Finally got 4.3% from Honda after telling them I'd use my e-loan powercheck at 4.55%
Just like everyone else on this board, I love this vehicle. First time I've not purchased a GM vehicle. May never go back.
You best negotiating tool your have is TIME. You can offer invoice +100 and stay firm but keep the negotiations open. I offered $74.5 over invoice +126.5 for doc, title & tag fees and got it. I had basically one week to buy a car (windstar blew a head gasket) but I never let them know that.
When they decline your offer respond to their e-mail restating you SAME offer and keep the negotiation open buy stating what they gain.
They gain a sell to someone who normally would not visit their lot along with the dealer hold back and one more car sold to help with future Honda alotments.
Make sure include documentation fee and other dealer charges in you offer.
Regarding special order.
There is no reason to special order a Honda since Honda really doesn't offer any options. With other manufactures such as Toyota I would always special order my vehicle. This way I get exactly what I want on the car. Last year I special ordered a Camery at the beginning of the model year (i.e. no rebates) for $200 over invoice. This is the only way I could get a Camery with leather, and with out sunroof, upgraded radio and side air bags. So I got a good price over invoice and saved on the options I did not want.
For reasons I don't quite understand, that seems to apply best when doing business long distance (or, at least, out of town).
If I was in the business, it seems to me it would best to treat every customer that way but, alas, most stores (certainly many of those in urban areas) don't feel that way, apparently believing the next customer is right around the corner.

Other dealer promised to throw-in free oil changes/car washes for a year for the same price. But had already decided to go with the previous.
Prices are coming down, good luck!!!
By the way, your "base price" quote is in-line with the quotes I've received from 3 dealerships in the DFW area. It's still approx. $700-$900 more than I'm willing to pay for the EX cloth so I'm going to hold out a little longer.
How about a car vacuum ?
I am ready to start the process of buying an EXL-NAV & RES. This will be a first for me, so I have a few questions.
1. When I call these dealers do I tell them what I want (make, model) and then tell them the price I am willing to pay and have it go from there. I don't want to get side-tracked by a lot of questions, I will be trading a car in, but know to do that after a price has been reached.
2. Do I just call several dealers and tell them the same thing and see who agrees or do I just go to the internet person and send an email with my price?
3. I have tried to contact Bedard Brothers but I have not received a response via email - should I call or visit in person (they are about 3 hours away)?
4. Has anyone leased or has everyone gone through financing and if you choose to lease does that change one's negotiating options?
I know this is a lot of questions but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
If I'm wrong in declining their offer, it won't be the first time my stubborness led me astray.
By all means, call Bedard if you wish but from what I've seen of late their prices (about $1000 off MSRP) doesn't seem all that good. There are great prices (no more than $1000 over invoice) in NE Ohio if you're willing to fly into Cleveland or Akron-Canton.
Negotiate the price and then talk about leasing, a more complex subject. For what it is worth, there's a dealer here in Columbus offering to lease an EX cloth for $315 per month for 63 months with, I believe, $350 down. I'm not a fan of long leases so I don't personally think that is such a great deal but it depends on one's needs.
Good luck!
thanks

I had been looking for about 3 weeks seriously. Most dealerships in the Denver area would only come off MSRP by about $1k. After reading this forum, I decided I was willing to pay about $1K over invoice, no more. That is the deal I got, however I had to go to Team Honda in Colorado Springs to get it (about a 1 1/2 hour drive from where I live).
I had the deal in writing and went to John Elway Honda who has a policy of matching other deals (or so the sales person told us). They were not willing to meet this deal, so I purchased from Team Honda in Colorado Springs. They were excellent and handled everything very professionally.
Here is what I paid:
$29987.00 ($1k over invoice)
$299 dealer handling (this is offset by my accessories, see below)
Free auto day/night mirror and 3rd row sunshades (I wanted these and invoice on them is about $370, so it offsets the dealer handling charge)
No installation charge on accessories
Sales tax for my county: 7.85% = $2377
Total (w/o tax): $30286
Total (incl tax): $32663 Out the Door
This is about $930 over invoice (including accessories that I specified).
The vehicle arrived (from Alabama) to their dealership on Saturday, they ordered my accessories which arrived this morning (Tuesday). I picked up the van Tuesday night.
So far, very happy. I'll post more later.
I assume your van did NOT have NAVI?
Any issues with 1) wind noise. or 2) seat comfort?
Thanks.
Thanks
Here are the numbers:
EX-L: $28500 ($951 over invoice)
doc fee: $229
Reg & Title: $84.50
Tax: $1425
OTD total: $30238.50
The whole family is excited!
I assume (since you left it out) you did not get DVD nor NAVI? Did you get a sunroof? Thanks.
