    "Did you get a sunroof?"

Sunroof is standard on the EX-L.

Gosh, excuse me for asking. We looked at so many van models, some with standard and some not, that I thought I would ask along with my question about RES and NAVI. Sorry you had to read it.

I recommend you call bedard brothers and speak to sales manager or leave message in his voice mail, he will get back to you and feel free to leave specific message regarding vehicle you are looking for to save him time. Good luck, they are good people

I started this whole process of research in august and thanks to everyone who posts on this board as I feel it is only right to tell my story.

After being given the run around and MSRP by all the local Boston dealers I found out about Bedard Brothers on this board. I was lucky enough to send in my deposit and get the above vehicle for the $950 above invoice (savings of approx $3300 over local dealers) My wife and I were astounded at the arrogance of local dealers and while we would have paid a little more (mabey $1000) in no way were we going to be taken over the coals. I do not know if it is because of the limited production but it almost felt like collusion was taking place, although is seems as if some cracks in the armour are appearing.

Okay, enough about the bad stuff, lets talk about the good! Bedard Brothers was up front, honest, and a pleasure to deal with. While they not be giving this deal anymore I would check to see what they are offering. We even had them overnight the DVD and with the money we saved took a limo and watched it on the way to picking up the van.

We got a midnight blue touring with the grey leather. The color is awesome and the neighbors even commented on the attractive new design and color. We are a bit overwhelmed with all the features but i am going to try and read the manual for an hour a day to get the most out of everything. Also purchased splash guards, wheel locks (never know if those $500 pax tires/wheel become the favorite of bandits), cargo tray, and cargo board. This is our first honda and we are looking forward to a long and enjoyable ride!!!

    Hi All,

I did a email blast to local dealers here in the Bay Area. Here's the deal I'm getting:

    2005 Honda Odessey EX-cloth

    Cost: $26,000 + $515 (destincation) + tax/fees.

Do people here think this is a good price to buy?

    Thanks to all.

Yeah, a thief might steal them for his Rolls-Royce:)

    Hi,

I'm glad things went well with Bedard Bros. I'm having a hard time getting anyone to respond to my email there. Should I just call them and tell them what I am looking for and state how much I will pay? I want to believe that these people are everything that I have read about on this board.

    Thanks

Is anybody in Oregon/Washington state get any offer closer to invoice?

The best offer I got so far is 1000 off of MSRP.

Is this best price in NW area?

Does anybody has a goooood deal yet?

How much? And what's the current tax rate for us? I am in Palo Alto. Thanks!

    Hi,

Where is NC this dealer .Give us some idea.
  • denver5357denver5357 Member Posts: 319
Birdog, I've been dealing with Elway Honda and the dealer you name and I wondered if I could e-mail or talk with you offline about your dealer experience where you purchased? I have run into a situation I don't understand and am interested in finding out more about your experience.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Yes, this is a good price, especially for the West Coast and indicates just how soft the market is (in general and/or for the Odyssey in particular).
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Yreka, CA has a Honda dealer???

Place must have grown since I was last through there!
  • jmac41jmac41 Member Posts: 9
If it's an option, I'd wait until the last week of the year ... you might find even a better price from someone then.

I got my EX-Cloth in Virginia (outside Washington, DC) at $500 over invoice the last day of November.

Your sale could put some salesman over the top for his monthly or year-end bonus!
  • jmac41jmac41 Member Posts: 9
The dealer even had to do a trade for the color I wanted ... since they didn't that color (Ocean Mist) in stock and it's apparently hard to find.

Goes to show if the motivation/incentive exists, they'll find a way to accommodate you.
  • massmanmassman Member Posts: 21
Call them and tell them how you heard about them, as i know by now they are well aware of this board/website, so they know you are an educated consumer and let them know what you are looking for exactly and ask them for their best price and if they need some time that is fine but tell them you are not there to waste their time and you do not want yours wasted. I believe that they can actually be treated as responsible and respectful people (dealer) and they will do the same to you.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out. Do not be afraid to leave message for sales manager as I stated earlier to you.
  • obrien040362obrien040362 Member Posts: 134
Honda or a 3rd party will offer it after 36,000 miles. But you don't need it anyway. Consumer reports don't recommend them especially on Honda's
  • obrien040362obrien040362 Member Posts: 134
I would suggest that you don't negotiate down from MSRP but rather up from Invoice.

The difference from $500 over invoice and $1000 off MSRP is $1500 or so.
  • obrien040362obrien040362 Member Posts: 134
I miss read a post and thought someone paid $1000 over MSRP, so then my business would be selling Honda's
  • obrien040362obrien040362 Member Posts: 134
That is still a good deal. Like I said in my post I really got lucky. Your deal is the 2nd best deal so far.

My guess if you wait you will get it at your price.

Have your tried Jay's. My gut you can get Jays for $300 over plus a free ($400 value) internet special package. I not sure what value it really has. I say $300 over since they sell pilots for $300 over.

My experience at Park was excelent. No high sales pitch on extra's. They ask if I wanted the warrenty I said no and that was it. The girl upfront did forgrt to page the salesman and I had to wait 50 minutes. So they pushed the paper work through quicker.

p.s. I wonder if Park is reading this board.
  • birddog4birddog4 Member Posts: 7
You are correct, my van did NOT have Navi. They had one on the lot when I first contacted them, but I really didn't want to pay the extra $2k or so that Navi costs.

I was flexible on color, but they happened to have my first choice of color coming in on their allocation.

I have not actually driven the van myself yet (I'd go take it for a spin right now if it were not snowing... Don't want to get the nice detail job they did all messed up with wet roads :-) ). This van is for my wife to cart our 3 kids around in. We wanted an 8 seater with leather and dual power doors. Those requirements ruled out both the touring and the Sienna. Made our buying decision easier to narrow down to the EXL.

My wife drove the van back from Colorado Springs. I asked her about noise and seat comfort. RE: noise, she said she didn't notice unussual wind noise, but did think that "outside road noise" was somewhat higher than she expected. She drove behind a loud motor cycle for part of the way and thought it was louder than it should be. Maybe these vans are not sound insulated all that well?

RE: seat comfort, she hasn't messed with the seat enough to know yet. She drove back at night in a strange car that she was not used to (and she doesn't do a lot of long driving, I usually do that), so she was stressed a bit after getting home. She attributed it more to the unfamiliar car than the seat itself.

December is a slow month and things will only get slower as the end of the month approaches. I'll bet good deals will come to those shopping in December. Not to mention that the sales tax rate goes up Jan 1 here in Colorado.

    The kids LOVE the RES!

I would recommend Team Honda in Colorado Springs to anyone. Our sales person spent at least an hour with us showing us every nook and crany of the vehicle before we drove it off the lot. No high pressure anything in the finance office, everything was as they said it would be.

Jmac41, did your price of $500 over invoice include any add-ons like floor mats, splash guards, etc.?

    Hello,

I love this forum because it's so informative (this is probably because of the excellent participation). Anyways, I posted somewhere here on Edmunds on what vehicle I should get given my situation with towing, baby on the way, etc. Well, I don't have to worry about the towing capacity anymore (dead issue). I have pretty much narrowed it down to a Highlander or Odyssey. I like the Highlander because it's fuel efficient plus the 3rd row is pretty decent since the 2nd row moves back and forth which allows ease of entry to the 3rd row. Of course, I like the Odyssey, but I am having some difficulty getting a good price on one (either EX-cloth or EX-L RES). Dealers in Souther California (especially in the Los Angeles area) are offering about $500 off of MSRP.

Currently, it' me and my wife and 20 months son. Our next baby is due June of next year. I really want a car now (I have no patience), but my wife wants to wait until June of next year. Plus, we have the debate of Highlander vs Odyssey. I know Highlander prices are pretty good since it's not a new shape, but will Odyssey prices go down by June of next year? Also, what's recommended, Highlander or Odyssey given my situation?
  • ispyispy Member Posts: 11
My sister has a Highlander and I have an Odyssey. Her Highlander does not have a third row. Is that new? or on certain models? She likes the Highlander. Its more of an SUV/car hybrid. The Odyssey is really nice except for the cabin noise at highway speeds and a poor/average radio. When you test drive the Odyssey, make sure you take it on a highway. Its a smooth and powerful sedan like ride. The big kicker is the noise. See if the noise is something you can live with. I have 2 kids myself and prefer a minivan for transport. The power sliding doors and low entry make life much easier than an SUV.

I've seen a lot of good negotiating ideas on this site. One is negotiating from invoice instead of MSRP. Another is multiple dealers. E-Mail benefits you. We bought 3 weeks ago and are still getting voice messages from other dealers talking about getting extremely aggressive on price. Having time on your side is good also. Pick a price you are happy with and stick to it. It may take a couple weeks/months but it can be done.

My apologies for my longwindedness. (nice word)
  • sejinrosejinro Member Posts: 20
Thanks for the reply. Yes, the Highlanders now have a 3rd row option (and standard on higher trim levels). I sat in the 3rd row during the test drive and it wasn't that bad (about comparable to the Pilot's 3rd row). Regardless, I am leaning toward the Odyssey, but it's the price that gets me. Plus, do you think Odyssey prices will fall around June of next year - this is around when the second child is due. Or, should I bite the bullet now...
  • pkapka Member Posts: 56
Highlander is coming out in the V6 Hybrid....consider that as an attractive option if willing to wait..
  • heywood1heywood1 Member Posts: 851
I'll be the Odyssey is cheaper to insure....
  • obrien040362obrien040362 Member Posts: 134
If you are looking at highlander then you should look at the pilot. I think the pilot beats the highlander. 3rd row has about 6 to 8 more inches.
  • portland1portland1 Member Posts: 4
Just returned from visiting Tonkin Honda and Tonkin Toyota for test drives. The Honda's in the Portland area must be moving quite well, as the internet manager quoted me MSRP as my oppty to purchase the plain Touring model-$35,010. The referral I came with allowed me full sticker price. But she had no cars to offer that aren't already pre-sold, supply and demand perhaps.

The Sienna was offered at invoice+ $1615 (xle with package 7).

The wife had a horrible time getting the 3rd row to fold away easily in the Sienna, Odyssey it was a breeze. She does have a back injury, I had no problem, but it might be a serious deal consideration for us.

I think both vehicles are pretty sharp, my first mini van purchase. I'm losing my E320 to make this move, a reverse mid life crisis I guess.

Toyota wants to hit me with a $562 TDA fee.

Does Honda have any similar surprises for me?

Should I venture out of the larger cities to find a lower price, or is it still a function of time on the Odyssey? Any reccomendations in the Northwest?

    Hi,

I am in the same boat in Portland Metro area and am finding it extrememly difficult to get anyone below MSRP for EXL. Thomason today offered to beat any quote which means I can get about 28500 for EXL (which was a quote from a dealer 100 miles far). Anyone was able to do better than that?

As far as Siennas go, we are finding it the same; but haven't spend much time shopping for that. Our choice looks like is going to be Odyssey EXL. I think we will wait till the prices start dropping to about $300-400 above invoice. Any suggestions.

    -Raj

PS. I have emailed at least 20 honda dealers in OR and WA area, but no luck so far.
  • mhtmht Member Posts: 3
You are not looking hard enough if you're getting only $500 off MSRP on EX-cloth in the Los Angeles area. I drove up from San Diego first week of December to pick up an EX-cloth from Robertson Honda of North Hollywood for $27125 (this includes destination) + a couple of accessories. There were no junk fees other then the $45 doc prep fee. Go through the Internet dept. If things are as people say, then perhaps you can do a couple hundred better than this. Good Luck.

Will soon be seeking best deal on a 05 EX-L in the Chicago area. Seem to have seen recent purchases in the $100-300 over invoice range in other parts of US, but no specific dealers listed in this metro area. Any recent local successes?

Also, not sure if I will be sending individuals emails to dealers or utilize one or several of "web search" services. Any recommendations?
  • sejinrosejinro Member Posts: 20
Thanks for the tip. I sent an email blast to over 10 dealers in the area, however, oddly, Robertson Honda in Hollywood was not included. I will try them. Thanks again.

Does anyone know how to tell color exterior/interior by VIN? I've gone into a couple of dealers to look at "the exact car" just to have it be wrong int/ext color.
  • kixokixo Member Posts: 35
VINs don't designate vehicle colorways. I too have run down to the Honda dealer -- in my case to check out the elusive Olive interior in an EX-L -- only to find that it's actually gray.

The best way is to ask the dealer for the Model ID and color code of the car. For example an 04 EX-L white exterior/fern interior, would code to:

RL1894PKW color: WH/FE. I ask for the model ID because I know what colorways the Odyssey is offered in from the brochure, and I don't want to be fooled by a dealer saying it has a colorway that doesn't even exist.

It sure seems the leather olive interior is hard to find. My dealer says it won't see another one until late February. Probably because it is offered in only two models, the EX-L and Touring, and with only two exterior colors.

    Hi:

I suggest that you telephone the Bedard Bros sales manager directly. When I spoke to him we agreed to $950 over invoice. I drove in from out of state to arrange the deal. I ordered a EX/L w/res/nav in the color of my choice. It was a pleasure to deal with him and the salesperson assigned. This is for a March delivery. However, I'm in no rush. The only additional charge was $50 for documents and state tax.

Wheel locks, splash guards, pinstriping were included. Should have asked for floor mats, thought they were standard for some reason (didn't do my research on that one), which was my mistake.

Are you sure you aren't looking at them?

cruised the lot at a local dealer. They had a touring with every possible overpriced add-on. 35K base, loaded up to a side-sticker total of 44K+!

Pity the fool that buys that one.

The carpeted ones? Yes -- I have those -- it's the All-Weather mats that my wife wants. If the carpeted ones are standard, then yes, I have those.

My company shows a deal with the American Transportation Marketing Group. You go to their website, enter your name and phone number and they call you with their best price. Anyone ever use it? If so, could you share your experience? Thanks for any info.

Visiting and reading San Jose paper today. They had two Tourings at this price. If they advertise that you should be able to negotiate a better deal. The dealer is in Los Gatos. Enjoy these forums.

I have a handshake deal with a dealer on a good price for a vehicle but I still feel like the trade is way low. He's supposedly in the process of trying to locate the vehicle for me. When I hadn't heard from him all day today and he didn't return a message I left him for over three hours (he had told me yesterday he would call me by noon and it was 3pm when I left my first message), I was a little annoyed. I called again and left another message. In the meantime, I e-mailed three more dealers and asked them for their best price. My dealer finally called me back about 20 min. after my last message and said it had been crazy but they were looking and having a hard time getting the dealer they need to trade from to call them back but they would either call me tonight or tomorrow by noon. Well, I got one dealer response and it looks like he'll play ball. He won't give me a ballpark on my trade and wants me to come to the dealership tomorrow (which I understand but it's over an hour away and I'd have to miss a child's b'ball game so I'd like to know if there is ANY chance he'd give me more). I feel torn on what kind of loyalty I have to the first dealer I gave a "handshake" deal to. And, what if they get the dealer trade worked out and then I walk?? I really appreciate any and all responses!!!!! Sorry it's so long.

    doglady,

I have about 500 miles on my Touring NAV so far, and I have not been having any back pain at all. Perhaps I was hyper-sensitive to the issue initially because of what I had read here, or perhaps I just needed to get used to it a little.

My wife has not made any complaints about discomfort in the front passenger seat. I purposely have not said anything to here about possible back pain problems with the '05 Odyssey so as not to bias any comments she might have.

Farmer3 - Trust me when I say this, it sounds like they are going to use high pressure tactics to get you in the door. The same thing happened to me. I drove over an 1hr, because the salesman told me it was the end of the year/month and they were ready to make a deal. He also said he would give me the best price on my trade. As it turns out they offered the lowest price on the trade. I had a 2000 Honda Odyssey with 50K miles on it, which 2 other dealer valued it at 12,500. This dealership only offered only 10,500. I walked away fuming that I had wasted my time and not to mention adding extra miles on a vehicle I'm trying to sell. I called the dealership later that night to complain about how I was mislead to believe they were really ready to make a deal and the GM told me the job of the salesman is to get you in the door and that 95% of the time they will make a sale.

Good Luck - Sorry for the long post.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
I don't understand why you even did a "handshake" deal (which mean exactly nothing legally) if you think your trade value is "way low." It was possibly low due to the "good price" on the new vehicle. Dealers (at least most of them) operate on the price spread between new and trade.

If you are going to walk from the deal, at least have the courtesy of notifying the dealer before he trades.
