Birdman and denver5357 = I am in Denver and will be contacting TeamHonda to see what they can do. Thanks for the tips. I will report back if successful.
So far all the dealers I've emailed are coming in over the MSRP. Is that typical or do I just have my work cut out for me to get them down? I'm looking for the Touring w/DVD & Nav although I'll also consider the EX-L w/DVD & Nav.
If this is the typical going price right now, how long do folks think it'll take before things cool off? I'm not in a rush so if waiting 6 months will bring the prices below MSRP that'd be fine for me.
Thanks for all the useful info and advice!
NJ DMV apparently has started issuing 4 yr reg card costing $300+ up front.
What color did you get? More importantly whats "a few days" actually mean you think?
Rob
Most places are starting to come down in prices. in soCal, there ARE no Touring NAV/RES anywhere until mid Jan '05. Many dealers will have them on their lots at that time and will compete for your business.
Good luck!
Anyways, you might want to check with Penske Honda. They told me they have 2 Touring with NAV/RES coming in this week.
Good luck!
I am looking forward to seeing the van soon. Good luck to everyone else.
A question for you. How much Bob Thomas is asking for other fees (doc, registration etc.)?
Thanks,
-R
The color is Silver Pearl (which my wife loves), that's a good thing.
The "few days" definition is the "transit time" due date. They are expecting to receive it tomorrow or Thursday. As it was explained to me, a positive thing is they have already received the invoice for the vehicle. I'll let you know when I actually take delivery.
Larry
The total of all doc. fees is $218.
Thanks again,
Larry
Apologies, I'm not sure I see in the logic in that--wouldn't the dealer be less inclined to offer a better deal knowing the week after Christmas historically produces a lot of sales traffic?
Of course this may be a moot point in the case of a high-demand model like the Odyssey. In Hawaii, demand is greater than supply right now. =P
We had decided on an '05 EXL-RES, and had called around to numerous dealers in the area. Most were offering 500-1000 off MSRP. I was referred by an acquaintance to the general manager at Community Honda, and he quoted me $29,787 including destination ($800 over invoice, ~$2600 off MSRP). I was told that their "standard" internet price (no referral) is $1000 over invoice ($29,987 on an EXL-RES). I looked at all the numbers I had planned to use for negotiation, and realized that his price was lower than anything I had written down, so I told him I'd take it...he transferred me to his Internet Manager with whom I worked for the rest of the transaction. We left town for a few days after negotiating the deal, and that enabled them to find us our first choice of color (Ocean Mist).
We picked up the van when we got back into town. We actually showed up at the dealership at 8pm after a long day of travel, and they had us out the door in 45 minutes! Wonderful experience.
As for the numbers:
$29,787 (Vehicle Price, EXL-RES)
$373 (Auto-dimming mirror w/ compass)
$2111 (7% Sales tax (Lake County))
$15 (Flat Cook County Tax)
$53 (Doc Fee)
$143 (Plates)
-------
$32,482 (Total Out the Door)
I'd recommend them to anyone.

Overall, the salesman who sold me the car was very nice and low pressure. I can't say the same for the other sales guys. When I stepped into the dealer and asked to see my salesman, they pretended they didn't know who he was and wanted to steal my business from him. They brought me to the second floor so my salesman can't find me, but I insisted on talking to him and they finally brought me to him after they realized that I had been quoted a price. They told me that price was not possible and I guest they don't want to do business with me because that would cut into their commission.
So you might want to check with me to get my salesman’s name so you don’t have to deal the other back stabbing sales people in the dealer. Since this forum does not allow mentioning of names, I am willing to e-mail you or get in touch with my salesman and have them call you if you are interested. I think since it is year end, the dealer was willing to come down more on the price to make the year end numbers look good. Otherwise the managers would not approve this sale price.
I have to say that this forum has helped me a lot in getting me a good price. I was expecting to get no more than $1,000 off the MSRP price since I am in NYC. I just want to give my 2 cents so others can benefit from my experience. Good luck on your searches.
All I did was sending out 20 emails and wait for the responses.
The best place appears to be Walnut Creek. With the permission of the sales person I am posting their name here. Great experience.
This message is posted here to thank this board and Walnut Creek Honda for assisting me getting my car so quickly and easily.
I'm not yet very familiar with how to use private messaging. I would like to get the name of the dealer you mentioned. How do I go about it? Do I just post my email id here?
Thanks
If you wish to make your email address avaialable to others, click the Forums Profile link on the left and mark your address 'public' (other registered members can then see your emal address in your profile then).
The name of the dealership is allowed to be posted as is the city and state. Sorry, no posting the names of salespeople (or their initials or "he's the really tall guy") or personally identifying descriptors.

$31,988.00 for the 2005 Odyssey EX-Leather and DVD
$299.00 Processing Fee
3.12% Virginia Sales TAX = $1008.00
$46.50 Virginia Tag Fee
TOTAL OTD: $33,340.00
I don't like the proc fee. The dealer has add-ons that he says are worth $795 that I do not want and are included in the $31,988. I've gone round and rond with him about dropping the "free" add-ons, but he won't budge. This price seems way too high to me.
The "processing fee" is simply a price add-on. It might help to think of it this way: 31,988 plus $299 equal a vehicle price of $32,287 on an MSRP of $32,410.
The market varies depending on geography. It might help to check some other dealers in your area and see how his numbers compare. If you don't find what you like, a number of recent posters have found great figures at some NE Ohio stores.
As for mandatory add-ons, anyway you cut it, you're being charged for them. Don't pay for what you don't want.
Thanks!
I had another dealer tell me they would go $500 off MSRP, NOT waive the dealer fee, and had little interest in trying to locate a Redrock since it was a very difficult color to find (according to them).
I consider myself a pretty good negotiator, but this is a VERY tough vehicle to beat down on price and none I spoke with have an interest in going more then $500 off.
Thanks.
I researched dealerships for exactly 3 months from Virginia (Rule Honda),Alabama (Jasper Honda) to Massachusetts (Berard Bros Honda). They all had some pretty good deals, but were too far from me here in NC. Our experience in NC was terrible except for Crown Honda in Greensboro. Every other dealership would not budge off the MSRP and would try to undercut our trade-in as well. We found Crown Honda's salespeople and staff extraordinarily friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We have purchased over 10 new cars within the past 13 years and have never had such a pleasant buying experience.
Again, GO TO CROWN HONDA in Greensboro if you don't want to pay MSRP. Their website is http://hondagso.crownauto.com/. You won't be sorry!
Happy Honda Buying!
I'm scheduled to pick-up my van from Bedard next month and I live in NJ as well. How did you process the payment, registration, taxes? Did you pay in full prior to seeing the van? How did you register the van?
I appreaciate any feedback you can give me.
Thanks,
John
I have "excellent" credit rating (720+) but the finance guy at Honda dealership is only offering to "match" my credit union rate of 4.5% for 60 months. I have been shopping around online since they call (20th)and stated that the car was delivered and feel that my rate should be better. I want to have something concrete/on paper/in hand before I get there to pick up my van and deal with their F&I guy, ( who by the way stated that they "can't" beat it). Any suggestions??? Thanks in advance
Supposedly, Honda is offering a special finance rate of 2.9% right now but I don't know other particulars.
If the dealer doesn't work out, my advice would be to arrange the loan through your credit union. They can send a check to the Florida dealer.
You could call him again and ask him about this 2.9 thing, it is right up Honda's website so he could not possibly deny its' existence. If you don't trust the salesperson, you could got to Honda's website and try to get pre-approved online. That way you have something more concrete than the dealership can give you.
do you mind sending me the name of the dealer you bought from? Do you have his/her email id?
you can see my email id in my profile.
Thanks alot
Where did you see 2.9% from HFS on ALL 2005 Hondas? Not sure if this is offered on the Ody. Can you post the link or send it to me? Thanks.

click on current offers.
1) I paid in full AFTER seeing the van, with a personal check. Bedard never cashed my $500 deposit check. They kept their word.
2) I paid the NJ taxes when registering the van in NJ. Bedard did not charge me ANY MA tax.
3) I traded in my Dodge so I used the trade-in plates to drive the van home.(Technically not legal with NJ DMV but covered under insurance).
4) BTW don't forget insurance coverage, probably the most important point to resolve prior to driving the van home.
Any more questions please ask.
Thanks.
I am considering buying one on-line, sight unseen.
I have seen the slate green/grey leather combination and it looked nice...
