Accord3, my "secret" was luck and this forum. Birddog lives in the same general area I do and posted about his experience. I just followed up by calling the same dealer he had called. His plan was the same as mine (check outlying dealers to see if they would give a better price than local dealers), but I had not contacted that particular dealership. Turns out that dealership likes to tweak the city boys, plus views our business as business they would not have had otherwise. I think it also helps their volume = more allotment situation as well. They were just good to work with ... Team Honda in Colorado Springs.

For those that are leasing and/or buying new 05 Ody, what sort of deals are you finding through the dealerships?

Birdman and denver5357 = I am in Denver and will be contacting TeamHonda to see what they can do. Thanks for the tips. I will report back if successful.

This is an awesome forum, thanks to all that are participating! I'm just starting to look for an '05 Odyssey (replacing my much loved '95 Odyssey with 130+K miles!) and wanted to hear from folks that have bought one in the SF Bay Area.

So far all the dealers I've emailed are coming in over the MSRP. Is that typical or do I just have my work cut out for me to get them down? I'm looking for the Touring w/DVD & Nav although I'll also consider the EX-L w/DVD & Nav.

If this is the typical going price right now, how long do folks think it'll take before things cool off? I'm not in a rush so if waiting 6 months will bring the prices below MSRP that'd be fine for me.

Thanks for all the useful info and advice!

Had a very pleasant experience dealing with DCH Academy Honda in Old Bridge, NJ. Interacted with their internet sales rep & got invoice+700 for EX-L on their lot.

NJ DMV apparently has started issuing 4 yr reg card costing $300+ up front.

Nice job Larry. I have been getting $500 off MSRP for EXL Res, I might try losing the RES and doing it after market for a better deal.

What color did you get? More importantly whats "a few days" actually mean you think?

I began my serach for an '05 Touring NAV/RES since October. I just put $500 deposit down for a delivery on 1/17/05 silver Touring NAV/RES.

Most places are starting to come down in prices. in soCal, there ARE no Touring NAV/RES anywhere until mid Jan '05. Many dealers will have them on their lots at that time and will compete for your business.

    Good luck!

Is that right? No Touring NAV/RES available in SoCal? I was in the market last week. There were at least 3 dealers called me back with quote of $500 off MSRP on this model. I finally picked up one last Saturday.

Anyways, you might want to check with Penske Honda. They told me they have 2 Touring with NAV/RES coming in this week.

    Good luck!

I heard about the Bedard offer here and shopped around at local dealers with that knowledge. Local dealers in N. VA never came close to the Bedard offer. I placed an order with Bedard over the phone for an EX in early November and they said 3-6 weeks for delivery. When the car they ordered came back with a delivery date in January, they went out of their way to find my color choice at another dealer and trade for it. Bedard is delivering the car (an hour away from the dealer) tomorrow. The price was as advertised, invoice plus $950 and a $50 processing fee.

I am looking forward to seeing the van soon. Good luck to everyone else.

Larry, You are most welcome. I also recently received similar quote from a Pendelton OR dealer.

A question for you. How much Bob Thomas is asking for other fees (doc, registration etc.)?

    Thanks,

    Rob,

The color is Silver Pearl (which my wife loves), that's a good thing.

The "few days" definition is the "transit time" due date. They are expecting to receive it tomorrow or Thursday. As it was explained to me, a positive thing is they have already received the invoice for the vehicle. I'll let you know when I actually take delivery.

    R,

The total of all doc. fees is $218.

Apologies, I'm not sure I see in the logic in that--wouldn't the dealer be less inclined to offer a better deal knowing the week after Christmas historically produces a lot of sales traffic?

Of course this may be a moot point in the case of a high-demand model like the Odyssey. In Hawaii, demand is greater than supply right now. =P

We had a great experience buying from Community Honda in Orland Park, IL.

We had decided on an '05 EXL-RES, and had called around to numerous dealers in the area. Most were offering 500-1000 off MSRP. I was referred by an acquaintance to the general manager at Community Honda, and he quoted me $29,787 including destination ($800 over invoice, ~$2600 off MSRP). I was told that their "standard" internet price (no referral) is $1000 over invoice ($29,987 on an EXL-RES). I looked at all the numbers I had planned to use for negotiation, and realized that his price was lower than anything I had written down, so I told him I'd take it...he transferred me to his Internet Manager with whom I worked for the rest of the transaction. We left town for a few days after negotiating the deal, and that enabled them to find us our first choice of color (Ocean Mist).

We picked up the van when we got back into town. We actually showed up at the dealership at 8pm after a long day of travel, and they had us out the door in 45 minutes! Wonderful experience.

    As for the numbers:

    $29,787 (Vehicle Price, EXL-RES)

    $373 (Auto-dimming mirror w/ compass)

$2111 (7% Sales tax (Lake County))

    $15 (Flat Cook County Tax)

    $53 (Doc Fee)

    $143 (Plates)

    -------

    $32,482 (Total Out the Door)

    I'd recommend them to anyone.

Picking up an EX with cloth from Classic Honda in Streetsboro, Ohio for 25,500 plus TTL. Also getting the AFHC 2.9% rate. Couldn't be happier.......
  • kengarookengaroo Member Posts: 25
I just bought my car from Hillside Honda. I paid $29,500 including destination charges for the EX-L with DVD. That is $514 above invoice price. I got a quote from Bedard Brothers and they beat their price by $495 but without the splash guard. I wanted the Silver Pearl color and he said he didn't have it, but I told him that was the only color that I was interested in and I am willing to wait for it. He made a call (an internal number) and got me one and gave me the VIN number. So I think he is trying to sell me a color that is in lower demand and then pretend that he called up another dealer to do the swap for me since I wouldn’t budge on the color.

Overall, the salesman who sold me the car was very nice and low pressure. I can't say the same for the other sales guys. When I stepped into the dealer and asked to see my salesman, they pretended they didn't know who he was and wanted to steal my business from him. They brought me to the second floor so my salesman can't find me, but I insisted on talking to him and they finally brought me to him after they realized that I had been quoted a price. They told me that price was not possible and I guest they don't want to do business with me because that would cut into their commission.

So you might want to check with me to get my salesman’s name so you don’t have to deal the other back stabbing sales people in the dealer. Since this forum does not allow mentioning of names, I am willing to e-mail you or get in touch with my salesman and have them call you if you are interested. I think since it is year end, the dealer was willing to come down more on the price to make the year end numbers look good. Otherwise the managers would not approve this sale price.

I have to say that this forum has helped me a lot in getting me a good price. I was expecting to get no more than $1,000 off the MSRP price since I am in NYC. I just want to give my 2 cents so others can benefit from my experience. Good luck on your searches.

I just got a quote back from Robertson Honda for 26,510 inc. dest charges. Then they clarified when asked to provide an invoice that the units had dealer add-ons (mud flaps and Cross bars) for $166.50 half of their cost supposedly. Is this still a good deal or is this a dealer trick to get more $$$. I was only half interested in the Cross bar and am not sure if the car even needs mud flaps.
  • wave3wave3 Member Posts: 5
Started searching Sunday and concluded my search 50 hours later. Final price is barely above invoice. Got a few quotes $480-500 above invoice in their first emails without any form of negotiation. Without going to fine details, suffice to say that my final price is better than the first round of quotes.

All I did was sending out 20 emails and wait for the responses.

The best place appears to be Walnut Creek. With the permission of the sales person I am posting their name here. Great experience.

This message is posted here to thank this board and Walnut Creek Honda for assisting me getting my car so quickly and easily.

    Hi kengaroo,

I'm not yet very familiar with how to use private messaging. I would like to get the name of the dealer you mentioned. How do I go about it? Do I just post my email id here?

    Thanks :)
  • SylviaSylvia Member Posts: 1,636
Please do not post your email address in the discussions - very unwise as it will get you on a number of spam lists.

If you wish to make your email address avaialable to others, click the Forums Profile link on the left and mark your address 'public' (other registered members can then see your emal address in your profile then).

The name of the dealership is allowed to be posted as is the city and state. Sorry, no posting the names of salespeople (or their initials or "he's the really tall guy") or personally identifying descriptors.

I received my 2005 EX-L from Bedard last Saturday. I live in NJ and drove 200 miles but the entire experience went very well. The Bedard dealership can be trusted.

Is this quote a good deal?:

$31,988.00 for the 2005 Odyssey EX-Leather and DVD

    $299.00 Processing Fee

    3.12% Virginia Sales TAX = $1008.00

    $46.50 Virginia Tag Fee

    TOTAL OTD: $33,340.00

I don't like the proc fee. The dealer has add-ons that he says are worth $795 that I do not want and are included in the $31,988. I've gone round and rond with him about dropping the "free" add-ons, but he won't budge. This price seems way too high to me.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
If the price seems "way high," simply don't buy.

The "processing fee" is simply a price add-on. It might help to think of it this way: 31,988 plus $299 equal a vehicle price of $32,287 on an MSRP of $32,410.

The market varies depending on geography. It might help to check some other dealers in your area and see how his numbers compare. If you don't find what you like, a number of recent posters have found great figures at some NE Ohio stores.

As for mandatory add-ons, anyway you cut it, you're being charged for them. Don't pay for what you don't want.
  • mhtmht Member Posts: 3
Good news for those who haven't bought. Prices are coming down this time of year even in CA. Either that or I suck at negotiating. I also bought EX cloth from Robertson 3+ weeks ago for $27125 with mud flaps and cross bars. So it is a good deal relative to what I bought it for earlier this month.
  • pmarcospmarcos Member Posts: 17
wave3, could you contact me in regard to your Walnut Creek experience? So far I haven't gotten any quotes even near invoice in the South Bay so I'm extending my area and would love to contact the person you bought yours from in Walnut Creek. My email is in my profile, or if you show yours I'll contact you.

    Thanks!

I guess I'm the only one representing the 808 state on this board, so here's a bit more information I've gotten so far. Tony Honda in Waipio gave an "Internet Price" of $2000 over MSRP, not including any tax or fees. If that kind of price holds, folks in the islands would actually be far better off buying out of state at closer to invoice and shipping the car over. More later...
  • keithe1keithe1 Member Posts: 2
After calling a number of Honda dealers in South Florida, the best deal I have on an EXL-RES is $500 off MSRP and no dealer fee. I do have a trade and they did come up on that. The dealer I got that from did go to the trouble to locate and get the color I wanted, Redrock Pearl. I have a deposit on that van and expect to get it tomorrow. That dealer also informed me of special financing through American Honda of 2.9% for 60 months that starts today.

I had another dealer tell me they would go $500 off MSRP, NOT waive the dealer fee, and had little interest in trying to locate a Redrock since it was a very difficult color to find (according to them).

I consider myself a pretty good negotiator, but this is a VERY tough vehicle to beat down on price and none I spoke with have an interest in going more then $500 off.

Can you pass along the name of the person you dealt with at Walnut Creek Honda. I'd like to contact him/her as your deal sounds like a great one. The deal you got was just over INVOICE, not MSRP, right? Was it around $200 over invoice?

    Thanks.

I just bought EXL - EXT for 800 above invoice in San Antonio TX. I also got 2.9% APR for 60 months thru American Honda. I got this from Fernandez honda.

  • tampa_lutztampa_lutz Member Posts: 5
Yeah, I have had the same experience. I have decided that I am going to probably get my vehicle out of state (It seems that there are too many people willing to pay MSRP+ and not enough dealers around providing competition - the Tampa area in particular is horrible). Waiting a little longer after the heat cools is another thought. All the best.

We just picked up our new Sage Brush Pearl/Olive Leather 2005 EX-L with DVD-RES from Crown Honda in Greensboro, NC with the following accessories: Tape player, wheel locks, wind visor, pinstripe, paint sealant and cargo tray. Our OTD price was...$31,200 (this is before we discussed any trade-in which they gave us a good deal on).

I researched dealerships for exactly 3 months from Virginia (Rule Honda),Alabama (Jasper Honda) to Massachusetts (Berard Bros Honda). They all had some pretty good deals, but were too far from me here in NC. Our experience in NC was terrible except for Crown Honda in Greensboro. Every other dealership would not budge off the MSRP and would try to undercut our trade-in as well. We found Crown Honda's salespeople and staff extraordinarily friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We have purchased over 10 new cars within the past 13 years and have never had such a pleasant buying experience.

Again, GO TO CROWN HONDA in Greensboro if you don't want to pay MSRP. Their website is http://hondagso.crownauto.com/. You won't be sorry!

    Happy Honda Buying!

Sorry - but we have very clear rules (see the red text in the post box area) - no posting the names of salespeople. It results in salespeople shilling for business in the discussions and detracting from consumer-to-consumer dialogue.

    BigGeo,

I'm scheduled to pick-up my van from Bedard next month and I live in NJ as well. How did you process the payment, registration, taxes? Did you pay in full prior to seeing the van? How did you register the van?

I appreaciate any feedback you can give me.

    Thanks,

This is my first posting although I have been "lurking" for a couple of months now. I am about to close a deal on an '05 EX-L on Sunday ( we are travelling to Fla to pick it up)...I want to say that this forum has been a great tool for my research...so, here's the problem:

I have "excellent" credit rating (720+) but the finance guy at Honda dealership is only offering to "match" my credit union rate of 4.5% for 60 months. I have been shopping around online since they call (20th)and stated that the car was delivered and feel that my rate should be better. I want to have something concrete/on paper/in hand before I get there to pick up my van and deal with their F&I guy, ( who by the way stated that they "can't" beat it). Any suggestions??? Thanks in advance
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Apparently you want some sort of guarantee from the Florida dealer in advance. There's no reason you can't arrange the financing ahead of time over the phone and/or fax in just a few minutes.

Supposedly, Honda is offering a special finance rate of 2.9% right now but I don't know other particulars.

If the dealer doesn't work out, my advice would be to arrange the loan through your credit union. They can send a check to the Florida dealer.
  • tinlittletinlittle Member Posts: 21
There is a 2.9 HFS (Honda Financial Services) rate up to 60 month that is offered for all 2005 Honda models. So Odyssey is eligible, and for slower moving cars like Accord the rate is 1.9. This special financing is between Dec. 22nd and Jan 5th. So your dealer might be right that he could not beat it if you last talked to him before 22nd.

You could call him again and ask him about this 2.9 thing, it is right up Honda's website so he could not possibly deny its' existence. If you don't trust the salesperson, you could got to Honda's website and try to get pre-approved online. That way you have something more concrete than the dealership can give you.

    Hi John,

    1) I paid in full AFTER seeing the van, with a personal check. Bedard never cashed my $500 deposit check. They kept their word.

    2) I paid the NJ taxes when registering the van in NJ. Bedard did not charge me ANY MA tax.

    3) I traded in my Dodge so I used the trade-in plates to drive the van home.(Technically not legal with NJ DMV but covered under insurance).

    4) BTW don't forget insurance coverage, probably the most important point to resolve prior to driving the van home.

    Any more questions please ask.

Does your price of $31,200 include sales tax? If so, is this NC sales tax of 7%? Or VA sales (not sure what the % is)?

I have a quote for a new 2004 EX cloth still on the lot (85 miles on it) and 3 more on the lot. Dealer is quoting $25,300. Edmunds TMV is $24,568. I'm thinking that since the 05's have been out since September and the dealer is still sitting on this that he should be motivated to sell no higher than TMV. I was even thinking that I should be able to get it for $24,000.... am I being too aggressive???

Yes, it does include 3% sales tax of NC plus all other related fees. I think this deal I got might be the best one in the edmunds forum so far. All it took was one phone call with not much haggling. Of course, I did spend 3 months of research calling other dealerships, and I did find some good deals but none came close to this deal.
